  • How well does Final Cut Studio run with 3gb of ram? Macbook Pro 2.33mhz

I have a 2.33mhz (Model a1211) Macbook Pro. I've maxed out the ram to 4gb but because of the motherboard restrictions (that I still don't quite understand) it can only use 3GB.
I've read on the FCS specs that the minimum is requirement is 1GB but Apple recommends 4GB.
I cut mainly short 3 to 5 minute pieces with AVCHD video decoded with up to 60-90 minutes of footage.
Will I have any serious issues with any of the Final Cut Studio Programs that I should be aware of?
I'm obviously not expecting Mac Pro results but If it doesn't run very well with 3GB, I might have to rethink my purchase. If it is just a "hiccup" now and then with waiting for video to start or such, I will deal.
    Thanks

Motion is gfx intensive. Meaning that the lower the gfx card, the lower the performance. You should expect little-to-no realtime performance from Motion on the system mentioned with even basic-to-remotely-intermediate animations. CPU RAM will make a difference in the amount of total frames that you can render in a RAM preview, but it will not affect realtime performance. With your proposed system: add a particle, a lower third text, a replicator with 5,000 points, a light with some shadows, and a reflection (and this is one of each mind you, not multiple instances) and expect around a * less than * 1-3 fps playback in draft quality with %50-%25 playback resolution. Then expect to wait up to a minute or more with the beachball of death for each parameter change. No joke either. Good luck fine-tuning your moderate-to-even-remotely-complex animation with your desired system.
If working in Motion is your desire, then focus on the graphics card. Unfortunately you can not upgrade your gfx card on the MBP, so you should consider selling your MBP and investing in a Mac Pro. You can upgrade the gfx card in the Mac Pro and obtain optimal performance from Motion. Otherwise you'll literally be stuck in the mud with your animations.

  • Does Final Cut Studio run on a standard Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I have seen Final Cut Studio 2 and it looks superb.
Before I buy it, I want to make sure...does it run on a Macbook Pro with 2GB memory and an ATI X1600 PCIe graphics card? (Standard Macbook Pro 15" 2.33GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo)
Do I need anything else? The Apple website is not fully clear about it (I think).
    Thanks for your reply.

  • How well does Final Cut Pro X run on an off-the-shelf 21.5" iMac?

I'm looking at purchasing an iMac for video editing projects but my budget is very limited. How well does a plain-jane iMac 21.5" (SATA 5400 RPM Drive, Iris Pro Graphics, 8 GB RAM) run FCPX?
Currently at my office I'm running FCPX on a Mid-2010 model with the 3.06 Core i3, 4GB of RAM and a Radeon HD 4670 256 MB. It is more than adequate for my needs in both FCPX and Motion 5. Will the current base model compare favorably to the one I'm already using?

    Ian R. Brown wrote:

Yup, depends on simplicity and what you can "get away with".

  • Will final cut studio run on the 1799$ macbook pro 15 i7?

ive been trying to install final cut studio 5, but it keeps saying my computer doesnt have the hardware required.... its the macbook pro 15 inch i7. heres a link to the exact one i bought. http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MC721LL-15-4-Inch-Laptop/dp/tech-data/B000BN HM0C/ref=de_a_smtd

    Hi
The price of the Macbook Pro has no bearing on what the machine can do.
The specs of that machine (model number MC721LL/A) is a 2011 Macbook Pro 15". Specs can be found here.
But, from what I can see - yes, it can run FCS 5. (Tech Specs can be found here)

  • How well does final cut pro 7 run on the new iMac i7?

I have the Mac Pro 1,1 - 2x3 GHz Dual-Core Xeon and I'm wondering if I would notice a better performance upgrading the computer. I do have the AJA Kona 2 for video output to HD screen but am willing to lose it for the nice 27" screen and a faster system.
I do a lot of editing with RED 2k, lots of After Effects work, and sometimes color grading.
Will I see better performance with the iMac i7? I've been waiting for a faster system tower but I'm not sure if Apple will design new ones. They may like to keep it small like the iMacs. It is space saving. Rendering is starting to feel old school.

[How did this question get to FCPX category?]
    Thanks for your response.
I think I'll back up my current Mac Pro and upgrade to Mountain Lion to see how FCP7 performs with the new OS. I keep searching for results online to see comparision from th Mac 27" i7 to my Mac Pro and get benchmarks numbers which are confusing. I can't find any  side by side comparisions. Also, my computer is not list in any results.

  • Working with final cut x (10.0.9) on macbook pro want to add compressor cannot download 4- where can I download 3

working with final cut x (10.0.9) on macbook pro want to add compressor cannot download 4… where can I download 3?

It has been available at some online retailers (Amazon) and EBay – but only as part of the discontinued Final Cut Studio suite. It would be cost--prohibitive to buy and there are other more cost-effective solutions. Depending on what you need to do, MPEG Streamclip might be a (free) solution. There are others – Episode, for example, which is not cheap at $500– but less than haf the cost of buying an used copy of FCS.
Another approach (and the one I would follow in your situation) would be to install Mavericks on an external, bootable drive. Run a copy of FCP 10.1 and Compressor 4.1 from that drive.
    Good luck.

  • Was wondering how well does the 1Ghz titanium runs Leopard?

    Hi
Could some one put up a youtube video of how well leopard runs on the last titanium g4?
I mean the minimum for leopard is 800mhz ... but how well does it actually run? is it worth purchasing leopard if you have 1Ghz?
    Thanks
    Chris

Hi, Nomad.c. How fast any OS runs on any computer is a lot more than you could reasonably expect to learn from any YouTube video.
We've seen posts here from people who had installed Leopard even on Tibooks that didn't meet the minimum processor-speed requirement of 867MHz (not 800MHz). They seemed to be happy with it by and large, but they may have had reasonable expectations going in. It won't be faster than what you're running now, but it will have some new features; you may or may not find them valuable. But you'd better have your Tibook's RAM maxed out at 1GB, because Leopard is much greedier for RAM than Tiger or Panther. That means if you use RAM-hungry applications on top of Leopard, you're going to make greater use of virtual memory than you have up to now, and VM is many times slower than real RAM.

  • Does Final Cut allow for "multi-cameras," like Vegas Pro, that would allow me to create split-screens in a movie?

I am trying to create a front and back camera view from two cameras simultaneously.
I am considering the purchase of video editing software that goes beyond iphoto. I am told that Vegas Pro will do this. Does Final Cut? (I would prefer to work in a Mac program).

    Andnick,
Thanks for your reply. My bad. My terminology was mistaken. I meant to ask whether I could do "picture-in-picture," so that I have a rear view camera (view) in a forward view clip. Does that make sense?

  • How does Final Cut Studio run on a MacBook ?

Anyone installed it, and able to give comments & performance comparisons ?

Then no PC card addition 800 FW port or additional port ever... Nevertheless, you could still do DV and lower data rate stuff, however RT will be limited by FW 400, and you'll have to be careful about looping FW 400 devices. Use a known FW drive that loops your camera/deck's FW imput without a hitch. There's several out there that will not do this well. Look at Weibetech, Granite Digital or G-Tech drives, I know they work OK looping DV signals thru them.
I think I'd want a MacBook Pro for FCP myself, at least it's certainly worth the difference in price from the new MacBook...

  • How long does final cut studio crossgrade mail take?

Hey there, forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this.
I sent in my final cut studio discs with filled out form in about 4 days ago regular mail.
I scanned the discs before i sent them off and of course I still have my paperwork (serials) and all that.
What bothers me is that I check the status and there is no record of it.
there is also a field that is required for "company" and I dont have a company name so I have no idea if this is screwing up the whole look up.
Anyway, its probably that they havent recieved my discs yet, since 4 days isnt very long.
BUT, can anyone clue me in on how long it took to get their universal versions nial cut studio?

It took mine almost 2 weeks. It took almost a week for mine to show up on the status and when it did, it said backordered. Stayed that way for 4 or 5 days, then got an e-mail saying they had been shipped. Got them this past Saturday.
Company name doesn't matter. I didn't fill in one on the original form and didn't when used the status form.

  • How well does Aperture 2.0 run on the new 13" Macbook Pro?

    Hi,
I'm seriously considering buying a new mac in the next week or so. I was just wondering if any of you had any advice as to whether the new 13" Macbook Pro is good enough to run Apple's Aperture 2.0, quite well? I'm not worried about the screen size as I will mostly be working from home, but the mobility would be a huge advantage in the field.
    Thank-you,
    Rob

Mac is the future, for me! wrote:

The 13" MBP is relatively a lower end box for running a VERY hardware-hungry application. There are folks who consider strong Mac Pros marginal yet at the same time there are folks who find Macbooks even weaker than the 13" MBP "strong enough," so "quite well" unfortunately is in the eyes of the beholder. IMO IF one is aware of and accepts the limitations a 13" MBP certainly "works."
RAM fortunately can go to 8GB, a very big deal; however among Macs the 13" box has minimum-in-class graphics, no EC/34 slot forever preventing eSATA and/or SSD utility, and has a glossy-only display.
I'm not worried about the screen size as I will mostly be working from home, but the mobility would be a huge advantage in the field.
Working from home you will presumably be driving a secondary display, further taxing the weaker graphics of the 13" size.
Personally I don't find the ~1 pound saving over the 15" or the ~2 pound saving over the 17" to be "a huge advantage in the field." IMO for graphics, especially photos, the loss of screen real estate and pixels in the 13" size is a huge disadvantage in the field. The pound or two of weight IMO is much, much less relevant than the huge benefits of extra pixels and screen real estate in larger sizes.

  • How can I install Final Cut Studio 2 on my new MacBook Pro with Lion?

I just purchased and received a new 15" MacBook Pro (non-retina) last week. I need to install Final Cut Studio 2 on this computer. I have researched this and found that I need to install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD in order to do this. This is the first Mac I've bought ( although I've been working with them for years), so I don't have a Snow Leopard DVD. I am a high school teacher and we use FCS 2 for my classes so buying FCP X is not a viable option for me since I teach FCP 6. The iMacs we use in school run Leopard and were never upgraded to Snow Leopard (budget cuts and all), so I can't even borrow one from my district.
Does anyone know how I can obtain Rosetta? Or another way to install this without it?
    Thank you ! :)

There is no way to add Rosetta support because it is not supported by OS X Lion at system level. This has been documented before the release of OS X Lion by itself.
If you really need Final Cut Studio 2, I would return your computer if possible, and purchase a Mac that is capable of running Snow Leopard (all 2010 models, early 2011 MBP and some other 2011 models)
