How will Adobe Premiere run on Apple MacBook Pro MC373LL/A ?

The specs are listed at: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.66-aluminum- 15-mid-2010-unibody-specs.html
Can anyone confirm that Adobe Premiere will run on this computer, and if there are any performance problems?

It depends on what you are doing with it.  With only a dual core processor, if it only has the default 4 GB of RAM, a lousy 5400rpm drive, and an older nVidia GPU with only 512 MB of video RAM (no GPU Hardware MPE acceleration) i doubt if you would be happy with the performance.  Maybe Premiere Elements might work.

Does anyone have any experience or comments?

If all you will edit is SD (Standard Definition) it will run slowly because of the 5400 rpm hard drive... for HD it will run REALLY slowly

  • Java will no longer run on my MacBook pro since I updated my java

Java will no longer run on my MacBook pro since I updated my java - what the heck is with that? When I try to do as suggested and go under Java preferences it wont allow me make any changes this is the error message I get "Cannot launch "java preference" no compatible version of Java 1.5 + is available."
Then it gives the option to open java preferences or quit. It will only allow me to quit as it won't open java preferences. Stupid updates!

  • Does FCP perform better than adobe premiere elements on a MacBook Pro?

does FCP perform better than adobe premiere elements on a MacBook Pro?
    Background:
    * just trying to decide what to go for re video editing app with more features than iMovie
    * last time I'd tried Adobe Premiere Elements on my MacBook (but it was before I had an SSD) the performance was not good - it was sluggish to the point I really didn't want to use it
    * so this question is just about whether in general FCP X performs better on a Mac (you'd think it would no, as it's made/optimized for a Mac)
    My MacBook:
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Elements is essentially an amateur app and Premiere a professional one similar to the discontinued Final Cut Pro 7.
FCP X is a radical new approach to editing which like Marmite, you either love or hate.
It is probably between the 2 in capabitlity but much closer to Premiere.
Some might say it was better than Premiere, whilst other long standing broadcast editors would disagree.
It all depends on your standpoint and I am trying to give an unbiased appraisal.
Some of the techniques it uses are way ahead of all other apps and this is what worries people who have an established way of working, though as I mentioned in another post, there are a few omissions which have upset those editors.
Some might say (echoes of Jeremy Clarkson) that FCP X is the most advanced editing app on the planet albeit with a few teething troubles.

  • How will Adobe CS2 run on my imac G5 2.0 GHz?

On ebay I recently won a imac G5 (ALS) 2.0 GHz with 1GB of RAM and a 128 MB ATI Radeon 9600 Video Card etc. you guys probably already know the specs.
anyways despite the optimistic opinions of the guys at my local independent mac store I'd like to know really how well this machine will run the Adobe CS2 Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign).
now I don't work on HUGE files... probably 20 megs max, but I like to switch back and forth between Photoshop and Illustrator a lot, dragging and dropping graphics etc. and one of my biggest peeves is lag of any kind while I'm doing this. screws up my "flow" or whatever when I'm in the groove and I'm feeling inspired.
what I have at my 9-5 office job is a Mac Pro G5 w/ dual 1.8 GHz processors and 3GB of RAM. this is basically where I'm coming from (wish it was mine but it belongs to the company) so how will my imac hold up when I'm doing my graphic design at home? do I need more RAM? thanks for your help
imac G5 (ALS)   Mac OS X (10.4)   Graphic Design

cool... next I'll have to get an ipod nano (black ofcourse) and build my music library up again. I'm coming from a PC and the really clunky Sony Connect music software so as soon as my Mac arrives my Sony mp3 player is gonna go up on ebay and I'm going to have to look around for a nano. I like itunes so much better anyways... a lot easier to use so the switch is actually fine with me.
and because my imac isn't an isight one with FrontRow I'll have to get a universal base and remote... I'll probably just end up getting the A/V kit cuz lord knows I don't want to have to get off the couch the change tunes while I'm chillin at home listening to music on my sound system.
my imac has the optical audio-out port that I could plug into my Pioneer receiver but without the FrontRow remote I'd have to be in front of the computer when I wanted to change songs... unless the remote that controls the universal base and ipod can also control itunes thats on the mac thus controlling the music thats being ported out over the optical line but thats a different thread entirely and probably belongs on the ipod forum....
and besides, the optical audio line is really only beneficial for DTS Surround Sound signals and I'd just be sending junky compressed mp3 audio to my receiver anyways so a composite line is probably fine (like the one that comes with the A/V kit).

  • How will re-downloading Mavericks effect my Macbook Pro?

I downloaded and installed Mavericks on my Macbook Pro months ago.  It says its using the OS X Version 10.9.1.  I accidentally clicked to download Mavericks again while browsing through the App Store.  I currently have the download paused and I'm not sure what to do.  My computer is already running the system and I don't see a way to stop the download.  How will it effect my computer, if I let the download complete?

All that will happen if you let it complete is you'll get an application called "Install OS X Mavericks" in your Applications folder.  You can delete it with no ill effects.

  • How will upgrading the HD affect my Macbook Pro?

I'm getting ready to purchase a baseline 13" Macbook Pro.
I'm looking at getting the hard drive from macsales.com and have a few questions...
First off, with the 7200RPM drives...do you notice a great speed difference vs 5400? How is battery life, noise and overheating with the 7200 HD?
    Western Digital vs Seagate HD?
They offer a 1.0TB 5400RPM HD from Samsung and Western Digital. Which one? Will I see problems putting a drive with that much space in my Macbook Pro?
Will my computer run slow if I come close to filling that 1.0TB HD?
    750GB 7200 RPM vs 1.0TB 5400RPM HD?
    Thanks in advance!

I recently upgraded my early 2008 MacBook Pro from a 250GB (5400) to a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750GB (7200) HDD.  I notice the drive and my mac are faster, and it doesn't make noise to my knowledge.  It is very dependable, and I am glad I upgraded.  You mentioned you have a MacBook... What year is it?  I know my brothers is an early 2008 MacBook and he upgraded it from a 160GB (5400) to a Western Digital Scorpio Black 640GB (7200) and that has been deemed as the max that model can take.  I am not sure what the max is for the year you might have unless yours is the same as my brothers.
Basically speaking my brother and I have noticed a significant difference in the scorpio black drives we have installed, and believe me we don't regret it.  We also found these drives for real cheap on Amazon.com.  Here are some drives you might like, and hopefully they are cheaper in cost for you:

  • How does Autodesk Maya run on the MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

    Hello there,
I'm interested in using the MacBook Pro with Retina Display for Autdesk Maya and wanted find out what people's experiences with that are. It'd be great if anyone can help share their experiences!
    Thanks!

One thing I do know, is the the UI is very small and menu items/buttons are hard to see. Someone posted a video of a now removed autodesk forum response on how to adjust font sizes .cfg file style, but I tried and it did nothing to the small text in Maya 2014. If you plan on it and don't have button and menu locations memorized by feel, I wouldn't use this software on a macbook pro without an external display, or change the resolution out of retina to use Maya.

  • Adobe Premiere CS4 vs. MacBook Pro

    Hi,
my problem : preview video is not playing smoothly. Sometimes it's playing good, but than it starts again: just stops for few seconds, the video is not fluent. There is no other problem, working with effects, audio working good, rendering, saving, everything is perfect. No other programs running, restarted computer.
This problem was seen only on Premiere, every other programs are working normally.
    Please help... Lea

    Lea,
Unfortunately, you posted to the Premiere forum. This was a program that was the precursor to PrPro. THIS is the correct forum. Maybe the MOD's will move this out to the PrPro forum, so you'll get more comments, than here.
Now, tell us about your I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, free space, controller type and how you have them allocated.
My rough guess would be that your I/O sub-system is not up to the playback, but could well be wrong. With all but AVCHD material, the I/O sub-system is the most important aspect for playback. With AVCHD, it's CPU power first, and then I/O.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I am switching to Apple macbook pro from Windows laptop.  Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?  How can I transport from Windows to Mac?  What I have saved on external hardrives, will I be able to open it on Mac?

I am switching to Apple macbook pro from Windows laptop.  Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?  How can I transport from Windows to Mac?  What I have saved on external hardrives, will I be able to open it on Mac?

Is Apple compatible with Microsoft Office?
Any computer is compatible as long as it can read and write Office files. But for perfect (or at least near perfect) compatibility, you would want to purchase Office 2011 for Mac.
How can I transport from Windows to Mac?
You can't directly transport any installation of Windows. All PC's come with a machine specific version of Windows intended for that PC. They don't have all of the hardware drivers the retail disks cover.
If you want Windows on your Mac, you would first purchase a full version copy (NOT an upgrade disk) of Windows 7 or 8. Those are the only supported versions on newer Macs. You install it through the supplied Boot Camp utility that comes with the Mac to create a new partition for Windows, and then install the retail copy of Windows you purchased.
The reason only these versions of Windows are supported is the same basic reason as a machine specific version of Windows for a PC. Apple only includes the necessary Mac hardware drivers for Win 7 or 8 on new Macs.
Once Windows is installed, you could then install the version of Office for Windows you already own. The nuisance of a Boot Camp partition is that you have to physically boot to either Windows or OS X, so you can only use the apps of the OS you're in at the time. To use both at once, you'd have to use virtual machine software (Parallels, VMware, VirtualBox) and then install Windows within that. Then you'd be able to run Windows inside of OS X and have access to both at the same time.

Office for Mac, http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products, can open/edit/create Office documents. If your external drive is formatted NTFS then you can copy the Office documents to your computer and work on them. You won't be able to save the files back to your NTFS formatted drive. But you will be able to save the documents to your internal drive. You can move all the external files to your internal drive then format the external drive for Apple. Then you can copy the files back to your external drive for ongoing use.
