How will icloud keychain work with apps?

It has to right? I know it isn't released yet but I would love some clarification on this if possible. All Apple said at WWDC was that it would work on safari but on my iPhone, I never use Safari to access Bank of America, Capital One, Nationwide Insurance, etc. I only use the apps. iCloud keychain is going to give us more secure, randomized passwords, which I am all for, but are we going to have to remember each one individually to access the apps? I don't think anyone could remember all those unique passwords. I certainly can't. I feel like most of us use a banking, credit card, insurance, etc app.  It just seems to me that if we have to copy and paste this unique password everytime we access the apps, that severely reduces it usefulness and convenience and could potentially make me not use it. Which would be a real shame.

There has been no announcement yet whether iCloud Keychain will be available for third party apps to tap into.
It would make sense, as long as security was maintained, but it doesn't appear that Apple have created any API's that third party apps could incorporate yet. Perhaps it will come in time, same as the new TouchID on iPhone 5s.

Does IClud keychain work with Chrome?

But strangely it says here: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95606?hl=en that chrome uses Keychain on the mac.
"These passwords are stored in the same system that contains your saved passwords from other browsers. On a Mac, Google Chrome uses the Keychain Access to store your login information."
    This calls for a test.

  • Does iCloud Keychain work on apps as well?

I update my Amazon with a new password generated by iCloud Keychain.  It worked on my MacBook Pro and I checked it in Safari on my iPad Air and it worked. It didn't automatically work for the Amazon app on my iPad.   How does this work with the Amazon app or any password protected app?  Please don't tell I have to search my keychains to find the generated password and manually type it into every app (amazon and kindle reader apps use same password)?  I am really interested in using this function that Mavericks and iOS 7 offers, but it almost useless if it doesn't work universally including.  I'd prefer to use the apps rather than go online.  Thanks for your help.

The support page says that developers can update their apps to work with iCloud Keychain (emphasis mine).  I guess that means its still a work in progress and the ball is in the app developers course.  I wonder if their is anyway of knowing which apps are updated to allow iCloud Keychain.  Apparently Amazon is not quite their yet.

  • ICloud Keychain - Works with iOS devices but having issues with Mavericks

Has anyone had an issue where the iCloud keychain will sync normally to iOS devices but not in Mavericks? It worked fine up until a day or two ago when I was forced to recreate my user profile. (a completely seperate issue forced it) Since then I've been rebuilding my profile but did not use the original Library files so as to avoid a reoccurance of the other problem.
Have tried multiple things including a complete reset (saving my keychain locally on an iPhone) and then reactivating. All passwords and CC information will sync normally to one of my other Macs and my iPad but my MacBook Air (with the new profile) won't cooperate. There are no errors or alerts and takes my security code to activate it. However, when I look in Safari it only pulls a few 'old' autofill passwords and no CC information.
Actually just tried loading my iCloud settings (including keychain) in the Admin account on the computer and it worked fine. So the issue appears to be limited to my new profile. Wondering if there's a keychain/preference file associated with Safari that's intereing with it receiving a clean sync from the Cloud. Ideas?

Just tried resetting my login.keychain and that did not fix the issue either.

  • Will 'Transfer Purchases' work with apps?

Will iTunes' "Transfer Purchases" option (which I know works with music and videos) also work with mobile apps? Meaning, if I have several apps on a mobile device, and somehow my computer is reformatted or erased, can I use Transfer Purchases to get the apps off that mobile device and back into the computer?

Will iTunes' "Transfer Purchases" option (which I know works with music and videos) also work with mobile apps?
If you mean an iPod touch or iPhone, yes.

  • How do iCloud calendars work with different devices?

    Hi
iCloud is driving me mad! All I want it to do is what it promised - keep several devices in sync, but it seems to either do nothing or spawn duplicates. Part of my problem is that I can't find anything that tells me exactly what it does with each device.
    Here's my set up:
One Mac - MBPro 17" running iCal, Address Book and Mail (I've completely given up on trying to get Entourage 2008 to play nicely) on Lion
One PC - W7 Pro using Outlook - this is normally my main machine (sorry)
    One iPad
    One iPhone
Appointments are normally made either on the PC or the iPhone and then disseminated to the other devices. iPhone and iPad are normally synced and recharged to the PC, so sync quite happily with Outlook.
The odd one out is the Mac, which i am trying to get synced without lots of duplication.
Originally I set up iCloud on everything. So on all devices I ended up with 2 calendars - 'On this Device' and 'iCloud'. Why do I need two calendars? if I make a change to my device's calendar I just want iCloud's calendar to change and for it then to change all other devices! I really don't understand the logic of what is going on and this is why I am having problems. Am I supposed to turn visibility of iCloud calendar off everywhere so that it just does its stuff in the background? I presume so, otherwise every appointment is duplicated on every device.
I've now turned it off everywhere because i ended up with three or four calendars showing on every device and massive duplication problems. Then when I turned it off iCloud deleted all my historical information and left me with a blank calendar. Thanks Apple.
What's really missing from Apple's documentation is an explanation what is actually going on under the hood and therefore of the best strategy to adopt.
Should I let the PC and iPad/iPhone do their stuff without iCloud and just sync one device to iCloud and also sync the Mac to it. This would reduce the chances of lots of duplication.
    Any guidance gratefully received.
    TP

Will I still get two calendars on outlook on the pc, because that caused lots of confusion last time?
I don't know about Outlook on PCs I'm afraid, so can't answer that question.
if I end up cut down to just one calendar on the ios devices, will that work off line?
Yes. All devices/computers cache copies of the calendars locally for offline use, then any changes are automatically uploaded next time you have an internet connection.

  • Will iCloud syncing work with non-Intel Macs?

My wife is using an older Mac. (Pre-Intel)
She now has a new iPhone 5.
I realize the new phone can not sync with the old version of iTunes that runs on her machine.
But can the iCloud "see" her old Mac and sync contacts with it?
(So far it doesnt seem to be working.)

    No.

  • How will Time Machine work with a laptop?

I have a MacBook and an external HD. I rarely plug the HD into the MacBook, except for when I need to backup. How well will Time Machine handle this setup? My hope is, as soon as the HD is plugged in, an increment backup session will start, which hopefully won't take too long. Or is there a way to still backup over wireless network like it was originally promised?

It will back up whenever you plug in the HD. The time will depend on how many changes you made from the last backup. If you do it daily, then it is not going to be an issue. TM will probably change our attitudes on how we backup a little bit.

  • How will iphone syncing work with multiple music library?

I switch between two different libraries on my MBP itunes because the large library points to lots more music on an ext HD. I want to keep the iPhone synced with ical, contacts etc on the MBP, but sync with different music/video content on different library. Is that possible to do?

You can only synch with ONE iTunes library

  • My old appleID use email with domain already deactivate. So I changed my appleID and primary email and now I can not access iCloud with iOS7. ICloud shows my old appleID but I can't change it. How do I get iCloud to work with my updated ID?

My old email that using register for apple ID cannot access/check any mail because that domain already deactivate.
So I changed my appleID and primary email and now I can not access iCloud with iOS7. ICloud shows my old appleID but I can't change it. How do I get iCloud to work with my updated ID?

    Hi ccharat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you did a good job editing your Apple ID and primary email address, but you didn’t sign out of iCloud on your iOS device before hand. What you may need to do in this situation is go back to the Apple ID website and edit your Apple ID and primary email address back to the email address that is signed in with iCloud (there is no need to verify the account after editing it back to the old account, just changing it back is enough). Once your Apple ID is back to the original account, delete the iCloud account from the iOS device and be sure to keep all info on the device when prompted. After you delete the iCloud account, go back to the website and edit your Apple ID and primary email address back to the new address. Once it is back to the account you would like, you can sign into the iCloud on the iOS device with that new account and merge all of the data when prompted. Please use the following article as a reference.
iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud

    Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Go to Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap “Keep on My [Device]” or “Delete from My [Device].” In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    I hope this helps,

  • I have a ibook G4 which has become redundant as my phone will no longer work with the version of itunes installed (latest it can use), how can I back up my phone to transfer to a new computer (a PC now)?

My iphone 4s (7.1.1) will no longer work with my ibook G4 which is running 10.5.8. I have a PC which i'm now going to have to use, I've manually transferred my music and photos, but how do I go about transferring my contacts and calenders. What does itunes on PC sync to in terms of contacts and calenders?
    Thanks!

    Hi there BDempster,
You may find the information in the articles below helpful.

iTunes 11 for Windows: Sync contacts, calendars, and other info with iPod, iPhone, or iPad

You can use iTunes to sync the contacts, calendars, notes, Safari bookmarks, and email account information on your computer with your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. iTunes also syncs this information from your device to your computer—for example, if you add contacts on your iPad, syncing adds those contacts to Windows address book or Outlook Express on your computer.

  • I like the idea of auto back-up for my new iMac, Ipad and PC Netbook, particularly if I can access all files and data stored on any device.  But I have a Conceptronic router.  Will Time Capsule work with this and how?

I like the idea of auto back-up for my new iMac, Ipad and PC Netbook, particularly if I can access all files and data stored on any device.  But I have a Conceptronic router.
    1. Will Time Capsule work with this and how?
    2. Can my printer USB be plugged in and then shared between the devices?
    3. Can I create a network and how?
    4.  What happend when a visitor logs onto my existing wireless router?
I'm new to Macs (well a returning user having started with Mac Plus!!) and not very technical.  Any help / advice will be much appreciated.
    Ray

The key to what you seem to want to do is to be able to get Apple's Time Capsule router to "join" the network that your Conceptronic router.  I believe that works with some third-party routers, but I've never seen a list of those that work in such a configuration and I have no experience with Conceptronic equipment.
You might be better off with a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device instead of a Time Capsule.

  • How do I get iCloud to work with my mac that has snow lepard and is pre intel?

How do I get iCloud to work with my mac that has snow lepard and is pre intel?

And it kills me that a friend who has pc computers and just has an iphone and ipad can breeze through all this with no problem and he still has XP.  So Apple goes back and helps old OS for pc but not for it's own kind!!!
Richard, I agree with you 1,000%. I wrote this in a forum a few weeks ago, when a user was complaining about Snow Leopard not supporting iCloud:
Why is it that if I bought a Mac before July of this year, I must pay to upgrade my operating system in order to take advantage of iCloud? Meanwhile, a Windows Vista SP2 user, who bought a new computer in May 2009, already has everything they need on their computer to use iCloud.
Why was it possible for Apple to write a free iCloud Control Panel that was compatible with existing versions of Windows, but Mac users must buy an entirely new operating system?
If Apple gave Mac users the same amount of backwards compatibility that it gives to Windows users, people with OSX 10.5 (Leopard) would be able to use iCloud. That's something to think about the next time you go to purchase a new computer.
(P.S. Something else to think about: If you bought a Mac before October 2007 (when OSX 10.5 was introduced), your computer won't run iTunes 10.5 unless you buy an upgrade. But a PC user, who purchased their computer as long ago as Sept. 2004(!), can run iTunes without an OS upgrade.)
I got so angry thinking about this, that I ended up writing an angry note to Apple on their feedback page. After repeating what I just wrote here, I asked them to commit to providing at least the same level of support to Mac users that they do for PC users when it comes to their cross platform products (iPhone, iPad, iCloud, Apple TV, Safari, iTunes, etc.) And, really, is that so much to ask?
I wish I knew how to start a petition requesting that Mac users get comparable treatment as PC users. But then again, shouldn't that go without saying?
Please leave feedback about this revolting double standard on the Apple feedback page. They should be thinking long and hard about why their own customers are treated worse than the customers of their competition.

  • Why can't I get photo stream or icloud to work with windows vista?

Why can't I get photo stream or icloud to work with windows vista?

Have you tried quitting Pages completely, restart the iPad and then go back to Pages and see if they will upload?
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
