Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. I had installed Firefox 4, but rapidly had to backtrack to 3.6, then again to 3.5. Two reasons: 1. The three toolbar buttons I use most are Back, Forward and Reload. In 3.5 I can group these nicely at the left hand end; in 4 the Reload button has shrunk and shot across to the end of the URL bar. Why?

Ok you can reset the stream from www.icloud.com
Goto www.icloud.com
Login with your iCould username and password.
and login
Then click on your name in the top right hand side of the screen next to sign out,
it opens a window Account details with Language, Time Zone, Advanced
Select Advanced - Then click Reset Photo Stream. and confirm, the stream will be reset and totally deleted
I still think you should be able to remove individual pictures though, a blured image etc is a problem

I then try to answer the security questions, but the date of births I enter are not accepted

Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID, verify the changes, enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone".
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, verify it once again, delete the iCloud account from your device and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

The best thing to do would be to start over. Use Setup Assistant this time.
Boot into Recovery, launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume. This operation will destroy all data on the volume. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For a walkthrough, see here:

Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system.

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

EDIT: the reason I use a variable for the servicename is, that I am running it on a central management server and not on the server with this servername itself.

This did the trick. Now I can loop through all my centrally managed servers and obtain the Service Account Names.
