How would i "completely" delete my Windows Partition?

Hi all,
After a month use of windows, i am finding it more useful to use my mac so i have made the decision to delete my windows partition.
How would i "completely" delete my Windows Partition?
This is what i was planning on doing (Please correct any problems):
Disk Utility -> disk0s3 (windows) -> Erase (Zero out data)
Is this right or is there a more efficient way of doing this, i want to "completely remove everything in the partition, which is why i have chosen to "zero out" data.
Thanks

OK. A normal erase doesn't actually erase the file data stored on a drive. Instead, it just removes the small amount of info that tells the file system where to find that data on the drive & frees up that space so that the file system can use it for data from other files. This is much quicker than actually overwriting the file data with some other data pattern. (There really is no such thing as an "erase" in the normal sense of "remove" or "rub out" -- all the drive can do is write something over the old data to obliterate it.)
As long as the file system is working correctly, this is all that is needed to effectively "erase" the file, since whatever data patterns that space on the drive contains is treated as if it contained nothing. Special purpose forensic applications can recover some or all of that data by ignoring the file system & scouring the drive, looking for "orphaned" chunks of data & reassembling them into files. (It is a little bit like putting a filing cabinet back in order after someone has emptied all the pages & file folders into the trash.)
The OS offers a set of security measures to prevent this, the simplest of which is to "zero out" the data by overwriting it with an all zero data pattern. If you are not concerned about someone recovering sensitive data "erased" from your hard drive with one of these specialized applications, you do not need to use these measures, which are time consuming.

  • How do I COMPLETELY erase the Windows partition from OS X?

I am a frequent Windows user due to the fact that the software I frequently used is Windows-based. Ive been using boot camp since last summer and since then have had to reformat and reinstall windows twice due to malware/spyware taking over my computer. Ive again suffered from some serious malware issues lately that have just absolutely raped the Windows registry. It got bad enough that my school has recently contacted me to inform me of some hackers that they detected accessing my computer while I was connected to their wireless network. As a result, the only way to eliminate these threats is by reinstalling everything all over again. Its a complete hassle, but its the only way around it unfortunately.
My question is... this time around, I want to be absolutely CERTAIN that this harddrive is 100% rid of any sort of spyware, malware, viruses, whatever, before I continue to install a fresh copy of Windows. Last time I did this I used the Boot Camp application in OS X to remove the Windows partition and create a fresh one. Is this the best way of going about cleaning the harddrive? I feel like it was too fast and too simple to truly be erasing ALL of the Windows garbage.
    Thanks for your help!
P.S. I know this isnt the place but if anyone has any good suggestions on how to keep Windows secure and free of attackers any advice is greatly appreciated!

I've experimented some with "what to install when" but I use Vista 64-bit which out of the box is at least somewhat more secure.
Questions I asked myself, install Apple Boot Camp 2.x first, early on, as soon as possible to get HAL support and other things?
Power went out and Vista thought my system was a laptop because it could 'see' I had a large 1 hr runtime UPS, so installing APC PowerChute is first and must, and I've seen power blips often enough.
From my reading, the time for a base install of XP SP1 to infection - default install from CD - is about 15 minutes, what is called a "honey pot" to attract and see what gremlins are out there. And there are a LOT of bots and malware out there. 2008 saw a huge jump in SQL-injection malware, and this winter saw some new strains.
SuperAntiSpywear - just bought it to put on my Windows 7 system, about the only such program that works without BSOD or interfering with W7 (Kaspersky, Norton, both beta editions, still have trouble).
Use your router's firewall to harden and lock down your system from 'knocks' on the door, remote login, inbound AND outbound services and to close your ports.
XP SP3 should be more secure out of the box but I've never used it.

Removing partition tables should be fast. It doesn't erase anything. If you are concerned or the MBR was compromised then you would need to reformat the entire drive, which would have to remove OS X as well.

  • How can i completely delete message app from my mac?

how can i completely delete the message app from my mac?

    As per email.
    Hi,
In the Finder (have any window open), Use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
This will show the Library in the Menu, select this.
    Navigate to the Preferences folder.
Find the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist file and drag it to the Trash.
This is the one Messages reads directly to create the Receive At list and, if shown, the Start Conversations From drop down.
If Messages was starting properly and you restarted it at the point you would have to re-enter the Apple ID.
    On the iPhone.
Go to Settings > Messages  and check the app is ON first.
Then check the Send and Receive Section.
This will always list the iPhone Number as ticked and Greyed out (You can’t edit it).
Having said that I have twice found the Number to be Unchecked (whilst still grey out).
If this is the case go to the Apple ID section and Remove the Apple ID.
This will also remove it from the Send and Receive section (you can’t do it the other way round.)
Once that is done, place the iPhone in Airplane mode to break with the Servers.
After a few minutes take it out of Airplane Mode and return to Setting > Messages
You should see the iPhone Number being Verified. Wait until this is done.
(I would normally suggest sending an iMessage to the Apple ID at this point as it would be the only Active ID on the Mac. And sending a reply)
You can now add the Apple ID back to the iPhone if you wish to use that as well, if you intend to use it.
If not then you way want this site https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage
Please stick to one method of asking me  (The thread will do for now.)
I am here 3 hours every evening.
I read all the new post regarding email alerts from the boards.
I then filter the Yosemite, Mavericks and iChat Areas using the Contents page and where require Messages or iMessages and deal with unread one.
Posting here at 2.41PM (according to the Time view I have) and then emailing me 11 minutes later seems like you are giving me the hurry up.
In the email and this Post you are not clear if you want Messages to work again.
Removing the com.apple.ichat.plist may help with that.  (The Status Message one will not)
You may find checking the Font Book and the AppleGothic Font  is the answer.

  • HT1311 For some unknown reason I have two Apple ID/Accounts in operation which is causing an issue. How do I completely delete one of these Accounts?

For some unknown reason I have two Apple ITunes/ID Accounts in operation.
How do I completely delete one of these Accounts?

I have a similar situation.. in my case, I started using an Apple ID a while back, then when MobileMe was introduced, I got an account there, and somehow that is the account that is mostly used when making updates or purchases.
Sometimes when making updates, it prompts me for the PW for one account, and sometimes for the other.
This is a real pain - is there anyway both these accounts can be consolidated into one?  When I asked an Apple rep, I was told 'no', but they have been known to make mistakes when giving advice.  So, is there a way?  Technically, I don't see this as a problem.. but Apple seems to be of the opinion that this would lead to having apps 'shared' amoung users. I think all that would be necessary if for me to provide the necessary proof that both accounts are indeed mine, and not belonging to someone else.
If not, what about deleting the apps registered to one account, and then re-purchasing them with the other account?  To do this, I would need to identify which apps are registered to which accouts - is this possible? Most of my apps are free, but there are a few I paid for.. not many, so this possible solution might work and not cost too much.  Ideas?

  • I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and somehow it crashes the mac side peridoically.  I am told I need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the recovery drive.  will that delete the windows partition too??

I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto.  I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system.  My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too.  If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.

There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that.

  • I accidentally deleted my windows partition

I had created a 100GB partition for windows on my 500GB hard disk from BootCamp and accidentally deleted the windows partition and I've got that 100GB free that I cannot use anymore. The partition cannot be resized and that's it. Please suggest a way in which I can get rid of that free space and resize my hard disk without losing ant data.

    there are 2 options here,

The OP has already deleted it, can't delete it again
    2) using disc utility open your hdd (use the original branded name, not the short name of the same drive)
select "partition" highlight your failed partition, click the minus button then click apply. this will give you your 100GB back. from here you will be able to start over with bootcamp again if you wish.
Once more, the partition is already deleted, how can it be deleted again?

  • I watched TV shows in my iPhone, deleted them, but still occupy space in my iPhone! How can I completely delete them?

I purchased and downloaded 6 episodes of a TV show. I watched them all, then deleted them from iPhone and iPad to free up the space.
The videos are removed from iPad completely, but when I sync the iPhone the purple bar in iTunes indicates that I still have all the 6 videos! The size of the 6 files and the size of the 6 videos the purple bar indicate are the same. I am not syncing TV shows (Sync TV show isn't selected whenI sync the phone with my computer). How can I completely delete them?
    Nothing appears in Videos, usage/videos!
I can't click any TV show to watch in iTunes app either even if I find the same TV shows.
I have no propblem with iPad, but problem is only with iPhone.
    The videos are not HD.
Any suggestion to free up the space?
    Thanks!

  • How do I completely delete a picture so that it no longer appears anywhere on my mac?

I have a few pictures that I have deleted from messages that still appear in recent documents within preview. How do I completely delete these files? They were not saved to my documents or in iphoto. I opened them when I tried deleting them from my messages, and apparently preview made a temporary copy that will not delete, even after the mac has been shut off and restarted. I could remove the file from previews recent documents, but does that delete the file too? I want to make sure it is completely erased. I could move the file to my documents and delete it (right now it is in some crazy folder that wont show up in my finder) but would that just copy the file? Thanks in advance

When you export, try to get the full file path or else you will have to do a lot of manual searching.
If you downloaded the picture from Messages, the picture is stored in your User Library/Messages. to make your User Library visible, hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Messages/Attachments.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Will upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion delete my Windows partition (bootcamp)?

On my other computer I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion, and the windows vista partition was completely deleted.  I was wondering if I upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion on my other mac with Windows 7 will it be affected, or in other words, is Mountain Lion Bootcamp compatable with WIndows 7. Should I save it to an external hard drive?
    Thanks!

No OS X installer deletes a Windows partition automatically. There is no reason for a Mountain Lion installer to do so when upgrading from Lion.
Nevertheless, having backups is always a good idea no matter what. If you don't have them, then this is a good time for them.

  • Use of BAT file - How do you completely delete 150 phones and their associate DNs?

How do you completely delete 150 phones and their associate DNs? All the phones are in the same device pool. I prefer BAT way.
    Version of the CUCM: 8.6.2
Type of phones: 7962 phones - associated with the same device pool.
Additinal questions: Is there a way to delete elegantly all the phones and their associated DNs when all the phones are associated to the same device pool? I rather not work with specific extensions and MAC addresses.
    Thank you,
    Calin Lupas

    Hi Calin,
    Using BAT this will require 2 - passes. 1 for the phones and 1 for "unassigned DN's". this is nicely shown in the attached doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/bat/8_0_1/bat-801-cm/t03delph.html#wp1342774
Of course for the DN's you could delete them via the Route Plan report>Unassigned DN>select all>Delete
    Cheers!

Once an app is deleted from an iOs device, you will no longer be prompted for updates. Update alerts only occur for apps curently installed.
