How would I export a list of songs on an iPod to a text file?

I found one of my old iPod shuffles that's synced to an old PC that is long gone... I'm looking for a way to export what's currently on the iPod Shuffle as a text file or something so I can remember that "phase" in my life in the form of a playlist. I used to be able to do this in iTunes 10, but not quite sure how in 11+. Does anyone know how to do this?

If you are able to connect the shuffle to iTunes and show its list of songs, it may be best to take a screen shot of iTunes window at max size.  Scroll the list and take additional screen shots as needed.
NOTE:  There is a command in the menu bar to
File -> Library -> Export Playlist...
Give this command with the shuffle's Music list selected in the sidebar.  However, this command is meant to create a text file that is later imported into iTunes, so it is not formatted to be nicely readable to human eyes.
iTunes 11.x may hide the sidebar (along left side of window).  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  To show the list of songs on the shuffle...
• If the shuffle is 3rd or 4th gen, find the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle's name, to drop down its content list (indented below the shuffle).  Click on Music there.
• If the shuffle is 1st or 2nd gen, the shuffle itself is one playlist.  Select it in the sidebar, under DEVICES, so that its Settings screen is shown to the right.  Toward the top, where is says "Settings," click on On This iPod (to the right).
You can actually off-load the song files from the shuffle.  You cannot use iTunes to do this (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store), but there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on the computer's drive, I suggest you create a new playlist in iTunes, and name it appropriately (like "Old iPod Songs").  Show the song files in an Windows Explorer window, and drag them to that playlist in the iTunes window.  iTunes will add the songs to the (general) iTunes library, but that playlist will only show the songs that were on the shuffle.  And you can actually play the songs for a shot of "nostalgia" (not just look at their names).

How would i put pictures on the songs??

    Album artwork?
In iTunes, on the bottom left is a box with an arrow up (if it's an arrow down, don't click), click on that and the icon will change with a box and an arrow down.
Find the file on Safari/FireFox/IE/whatever internet browser you use, and click and hold the picture. Now drag it to the iTunes window, and release on the empty box in the low left pane. (You can also copy/paste the image from the internet, and onto the song.
For multiple songs, select the songs you want to modify, right click (apple click for Mac), and select "Get Info". Copy and paste the image into the Album artwork box, and make the sure the tick box is checked. Apply (and select ok to the message that appears, warning you of changing multiple songs). Let it process and in less than a minute, you'll have album art.

  • I added 2 cd's to itunes 11, I have an ipod classic 30gb, how do I export the albums from itunes to my ipod?

Hi Ihave an ipod classic 30gb, i imported 2 cd's into itunes on win xp pro sp3, how do I export the albums from itunes to my ipod?

It depends on how you previously added content to the iPod?  Or are saying the iPod is currently empty, and you want to add these albums to it?
If you want to sync your entire iTunes music library to the iPod, which may or may not be just these two albums at this point, you can do the following.  Select the iPod in iTunes, so that you see the iPod's "management" screen.  If you are using the latest iTunes 12, you do this by clicking the "device button" on the horizontal bar that goes across the iTunes window (near the top).  The button's icon looks like the connected device.
On the iPod's screen, there is a sidebar (along left side of window).  In the sidebar, under Settings, click Music.  To the right, the iPod's Music settings screen is shown, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.  Near the top, there is a checkbox for Sync Music.  Check that box to enable automatic syncing.  NOTE:  If that box is not already checked, checking it will replace the iPod's existing content with content from your iTunes library.  Any songs on the iPod now that are not in your current iTunes library will be lost.
Below that setting, there are two options for how to sync songs.  30GB is a decent amount of storage space, so if your entire iTunes library can fit on your iPod, you can use the option to sync Entire music library.  Then click Apply.  iTunes syncs your entire iTunes music library to your iPod.  Going forward, any changes to your iTunes music library (such as adding more albums or songs) will sync automatically to the iPod, the next time it is connected (or when you click Sync if already connected).
If your situation is different, please reply back with more details.

I would like to copy all the songs from one Ipod into another. All the songs are into my Itunes account, I tried to drag and drop the songs from the old Ipod to the new one but it doesn't work. Is there a way to do it ?
I share one Itunes account with other people from my family and one person would like to keep the same songs on the new Ipod as the ones which were on the old one.
Thanks in advance for your answer.

    Hello Chris,
Thanks for your answer. I was hoping for an easier answer. Too bad there is no drag and drop solution, it would have been much easier.
    Thanks for answering so fast.

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.

I have unchecked the box that converts my higher resolution songs to 128 kpbs downloaded to my iPod classic. How do I restore the higher resolution songs to the iPod?

Uncheck the option to sync music to your iPod from under the iPod's Music configuration pane and hit Apply.  After it has completed, retick the option and again hit Apply to resync all your music from your main iTunes library back to your iPod.
Or restore your iPod and start from scratch.

How can I Cache the data I'm reading from a collection of text files in a directory using a TreeMap? Currently my program reads the data from several text files in a directory and the saves that information in a text file called output.txt. I would like to cache this data in order to use it later. I don't understand your question.
If you don't know how to use TreeMap why do you think a TreeMap is the correct solution for what you want to do?
If you are just asking how to use TreeMap then there are PLENTY of tutorials on the internet and the Java API provides the methods that area available.

Are you sure you want a map and not a tree instead?

  • How to know they is space or carrier return when java read a text file.

    Hi,
    Please help.
How to know they is space or carrier return when java read a text file.
The reason is that. I want to use java for loop to read each part of value. for example: first part is the items name. After the space (I need to tell java when this is a space here and its need to skip) , following by the items prices in double value and space again (need to skip also) and etc.
    item name1
    item name2
    item name3
    item name4
    item name5
<--- here is the space to skip and another loop to read following items prices
    item price1
    item price2
    item price3
    item price4
    item price5
<--- here is another spcae again. and so on
    thank in advance!

You can check to see if the sting you read in is just nothing, depending on how you're reading it in:
    if((str = inStream.readLine().trim().equals("")))
// skip and get ready for the next section
    else
    // handle the next item
The trim() method gets rid of all leading and trailing spaces and I'm assuming you're using a stream that can use the readLine() method that returns a String.
I hope this is clear. Let me know if it isn't, I'll try and word it different, or post how you're reading the values in if you need more help.

  • Exporting a listing of songs

Unfortunately I have to get a new iPod because my current 5th Generation broke. It no longer plays sound, and as I've discovered through another thread this is becoming quite common in the 5th Gens. However, I know that there are songs that I don't have the files for on my current PC. I had downloaded some songs on my old archaic PC, and unfortunately as that PC started to come close to its inevitable demise I couldn't back up files.
So my question is, is there a way that I can sort of export a listing of files currently on my iPod so that I can compare that list with my present Library on my PC and see what I will need to purchase again? In addition I would need to know how I could export that same listing for my iTunes library. Preferably I'd like an Excel format. As an Accounting geek I know how I can compare these two lists rather quickly.
    Thanks!
    Kelly

You can copy the songs themselves from your iPod to your computer. The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • How can I get a list of songs in iTunes to print out?

I am trying to make a list of all the songs I have in my iTunes. How can I do that?

There is a print option on the file menu, one of the options is to print a song list - either a playlist or the library.
Alternatively there is Export... on the file menu, you can export a text file which can be loaded into a spreadsheet for formatting.

  • How do I export a LIST of "Media Duration" from Premiere CC?

I have over 100 clips in Adobe Premiere. I can easily read their "Media Duration" within the project, but I have to log the media duration to an excel doc and typing out each file's individual media duration would be very timely since I have over 100 files. So I want to export a batch list that includes a "media duration" column. So I select all of my footage, and I press export -> Batch List. And it gives me some CSV files with NO "media duration" column in the document. It only gives me IN and OUT metadata in the CSV file. I want "media duration" metadata in the CSV Batch List. Final Cut Pro 6 and 7 had this feature, but I don't use FCP any more. How can I get Premiere to do this? It doesn't seem like a wild request. Is this something that Adobe Bridge or Adobe Prelude could do? (could they export a batch list with metadata of Media Durations?)  I've searched for the answer to this question maybe a year ago and never found an answer. PLEASE HELP!
Adobe, please add this feature if it doesn't exist already. If it does exist, please tell me how to get Premiere to generate a list of Media Durations for me.

Jerry this did not solve the problem for me. I have Media Duration listed in my metadata WITHIN Premiere. I exported the CSV file from Adobe Premiere, and opened it in Open Source. Open source prompted to me to choose some settings, so I made sure to choose Unicode and comma like you said. And the results did NOT give me media duration at all. The only metadata that showed up on my CSV file was IN and OUT points.... What am I doing wrong??? If you look carefully at the last screenshot I provided, columns A through D are the ONLY things that showed up. Those are In and Out points. I don't see media duration at all. PLEASE HELP!

In my case my export invoice and packing list both are same the only difference is in paking list i dont have total coloumn
so i plan to change invoice form to packing list,
while issuing the output from vf03 it should ask whether invoice or paking list
according to that i need print out
How to achieve these, otherwise any other alternative solution is there?

Instead of this you copy the same form and change as per packing list and give the user another output type for Packing list.
and say that if u choose one u will get invoice and if he chooses the other he will get Packing list
