How would I set up macbook gestures in about:config to open up a new tab(cmd+t) and word search (cmd+f)?

I'm trying to re-setup my multitouch gestures on my mac. what values in about:config would i need in to put in to [1] open up a new tab (command+T) for '''browser.gesture.twist.right''' and [2] how would i set up a page search (command+F) for '''browser.gesture.swipe.down'''

A few weeks ago I downloaded some free software from the "tucows.com" website, it appears to have permanently hijacked my web browsers (both firefox and IE) so all searches go to their "searchqu" site, and new tabs open at that site. I was unable to repair this with the addins you suggested or by editing my user preferences files, and ended up having to reinstall firefox. Hopefully I won't run into the tucows rootkit ;)

I already did the about:config reset and it doesn't make the new tab blank or go to a specific URL address that I type in. What can I do to get a blank new tab? Thanks.

I would just like to add to this thread. I have tried everything and every way listed here and found my own solution, for those of you who were having the same issue as me.
1. Type "'''about:config'''" in your search bar
2. Click "'''I'll be careful, i promise'''"
3. Type "'''newtab'''" in the search bar
4. Find "'''avg.userPreferences.newtabDisabledByUser'''"
5. Set value to '''true''' by either '''doube clicking''' or '''right click > toggle'''
This immediately deactivated the AVG new tab feature and reset my browser to it's default settings.

Opening pages in new tabs is slow and switches to the new tab and back. How can I stop this?

I work with a lot of tabs and most of the time, I need pages in new tabs to open fast. Recently, whenever I open a page in a new tab, Firefox goes to the new tab for a second, then back to the tab I was on previously, although I have it set to not automatically go to new tabs. I think the app GroupMe might do what you want. You might also try contacting your carrier. My carrier offered some fancy group texting service for a while but they never really advertised it so, unless you asked, you never would have known. But, GroupMe is available in the app store. There are lots of other apps that also do group texting but it seems to be the one that gets recommended the most.

I would like the window that opens with a new tab to be my home page. Instead it's YAHOO and I don't like it. How do I fix this so new tab is homepage?

I'm using FF 34.0.5 (I like it). I use to be able to right click on a link, within an e-mail, and the link would open in a new tab. Now when I click on the link it opens in the same tab replacing my e-mail.
Example - a friend sends me an e-mail containing a link to a web site he thinks I'd like. I click on the link and go to the web site and then go back to the e-mail tab and reply to him. Now, when clicking that link, my e-mail disappears and is replaced by the new site.
How can I fix this? When this happened once before I was told to change the 'value' for a specific 'preference name' through the about:config page.
Can anyone help jog my memory?

I use a website with many links to pdfs. In Windows XP (probably an older version of firefox) I could right click on the link to open a new tab, and the pdf would open in the new tab. In Windows 7 (and updated firefox) when I right click to open a new tab, a new blank tab opens and Adobe starts up displaying the document in a new Adobe window. How can I change the settings to have pdfs open within the new tab (without opening Adobe)?

Tools -> Options -> Applications Tab
Under Content Type find Adobe
Under Action, Left click and select "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)"

If you're concerned, you could always create wallpaper with some sort of ID/contact information and place it on the lock screen. I wouldn't suggest using any direct contact for you, of course, for privacy reasons, but perhaps some sort of "neutral" emergency contact such as a relative's cell phone.
Or just carry some sort of ID; depending on a cell phone for identification probably isn't reliable regardless of the phone used. A MedicAlert bracelet or something similar might be your best option since that would allow emergency responders to get your information while still protecting your privacy.
