How would leopard run

I recentely got a eMac
and I was thinking about upgrading from tiger to leopard,
but... I don't know how it will run, my eMac does meet the system requirements, but only just
I have this:
processor: 1; 1GHz PowerPC G4 (with 512KB L2-cache)
memory: 512MB DDR SDRAM
busspeed: 167MHz
model: PowerMac6,4
modelname: eMac
Leopard will run, but how can I find out +how fast+ it will run?
though leopard has lots of new features, I don't feel like using a OS that will make my mac run slower then my PC (witch has a celeron processor, to give you an idea...)

Hi,
I have a 1Ghz Dual PCC Tower (Mirrored Doors) (Circa Jan 2002)
It came with only 256Mb of RAM and I did run Leopard on it with that RAM.
I have since given it a birthday present of another 1Gb of RAM and this did give it a speed boost.
On the Tiger versus Leopard overall speed I see no real difference once I have passed the applications Install point to have what I use everyday or at least now and the.
Photoshop Eelements 6
Taco HTML Editor
iTunes
iChat (As I have PCI Slots I have USB 2.0 and Extra Firewire ports card for a UVC Compliant Cam)
Firefox as Browser (although testing Safari 4 with this post).
Dreamweaver (CS3)
Little Snitch.
Word (somewhat older version Office: Mac X)
Dabble in Pages now and then.
Once in a while iMovie 6 (Not HD)
Hope this helps

  • How do I run a program after login, but before the desktop?

How would I run a program right after the initial login using gnome/JDE?
With CDE I could edit the ~/.dtprofile to get the desired effect, but dtprofile is a CDE configuration file.

There used to be sn automator action that might have gotten the job done. It was on http://automatorworld.com/ but I can't seem to find it now.
I haven't test this under Lion but there is a system preference pane called "Do Domething When" that should get the jeb done. http://www.azarhi.com/Projects/DSW/
I have taken the opposite approach. My iTunes library and I have the same problem if it has not been mounted when iTunes launches. I created an Automator app that mounts the music then launches iTunes. Try mounting the drive the launch Automator to create the following workflow.
    1. Connect to server and select the external drive.
    2. Us the Launch Application step to launch iTunes.
Unmount the external drive and test the workflow. If it works save the workflow as an app and use that to launch iTunes.

Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.
System requirements are found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575

  • How would I migrate OS 10.6 from my mac mini to my macbook running 10.5 ?

How would I migrate OS 10.6 from my mac mini to my macbook running 10.5 ?  I eventually want to upgrade to 10.8.  Can I upgrade to 10.8 from 10.6 OS?  I recently purchased an iPhone 5.  I wanna use the iCloud.

The license you have only covers one computer, and the install disks from one type of Mac will not work on another type. You need to buy another copy of Snow Leopard.
Start by checking if it can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

  • How can i run snow leopard and leopard in my mac?

how can i run snow leopard and leopard in my mac?

First, your Mac model must be able to run Leopard. Second, you would have to partition your hard drive to create a second volume then install Leopard on the new volume using a Leopard installer DVD.

  • How can I run both Leopard and Panther on the same machine?

    Hi,
I currently have a Powermac G5 with Leopard running nicely on it. I have 2 hard disks.
What I would like to do is install OS X 10.3 on the machine so that I can switch between the environments - please can someone explain how to do this?
I'm assuming I need to partition one of the hard drives and have done with the second hard disk (not the startup disk), but I'm nervous about what to do from there and really don't want to mess up what I've already got - please help!!
    Many thanks.

if you have two hard drives the easiest might be to install panther on the second hard drive. this way you don't have top partition anything. make sure the drive is properly formatted it should be formatted mac os extended journaled with APM partition scheme. then just boot from the Panther install disk and install panther on the second drive. note that this will only work if your mac originally came with panther. did it?
to switch between installs you can change the startup disk in system preferences->startup disk. then reboot. alternatively, reboot normally and hold option at the chime. this will boot you into startup disk manager where you can choose which drive to boot from.

  • How can i run OS 9 (classic) on an intel IMAC G5 running Leopard 10.5.6

    Hi,
I run a program that requires classic, i have been running a G4 laptop on the side of my imac, but i would really like to just use my iMac as a 'one does it all' scenario. Does anyone know how i can run the Classic mode as a background to my Leopard system, ie in conjunction?
    many thanks.
    Keith

If you have an Intel iMac, you can't use Classic.
If you heve a G5 iMac, you have to install 10.4.11 or earlier on a Firewire external hard drive, or a separate partition after partitioning your hard drive for both 10.5 and 10.4.11. This article tells you if you have a G5 versus an Intel iMac:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301724
Partitioning is described here, and will erase the entire contents of your hard drive:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61301
You will also need to use the original iMac G5 install and restore discs to install Mac OS 9 on your 10.4.11 hard drive/partition following these directions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61802
See my FAQ* on possible alternative Mac OS X compatible titles for your Mac OS 9 applications:

  • How Would You the Kernel's Running on 64-Bit Mode?

Hi. Is there an indicator in Snow Leopard to know if it's running the kernel in 64-Bit Mode? How would you know the kernel's running in 64-bit? Thank you in advance.
    Gbu.

Open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. Click on the Software entry in the sidebar list. You will see the following:
Note the entry labeled, "64-bit Kernel and Extensions." If you are running the 64-bit kernel the entry will say, "Yes."

    Settings>general>resets>erase all content and settings.
That will put it back to its out of the box state. Set it up with your own apple Id.

  • How do i run my epson stylus r2400 with snow leopard?

i recently updated my imac with the snow peopard software, but now my epson r2400 stylus printer will not work with the computer. at first the color was off, adding a blue cast and over saturating. so i went to epson and did additional updates as suggested in other posts. one i did this, the printer would not work at all as if the computer wasn't even connected. is there a way to run my r2400 with snow leopard or is time to upgrade my printer? and if so, what is a comparable printer that would also run with mounain lion?
    thanks!

    Hello taracass3,
You may want to remove any existing queues for the printer in your Print & Fax preferences pane, then re-add the printer. If it's still not working correctly, I'd recommend resetting the printing system.
    To delete a Print Queue
Click the print queue you would like to remove from the list in the "Printers" pane.
Click the - (minus) button below the "Printers" pane.
Click "Delete Printer" in the "Are you sure..." confirmation sheet.
To reset the printing system (if necessary)
Control-click or right-click a print queue in the "Printers" pane.
Choose "Reset printing system..." from the contextual menu.
Click "OK" in the "Are you sure..." confirmation sheet.

  • I have a Power Mac G5 - How can I run Matrox MX02 mini max

I have a Power Mac G5 Running Mac OSX 10.5.8 I recently got the MX02 Mini Max by Matrox to run my Final Cut Studio application version 6.6 and Im having problems with the pci board that comes with the matrox unit ( it does not fit in the mother board) how would i be able to use this with out connecting the pci board into my mother board on my Mac.?

    Can't use it with a G5.
System requirements are Mac Pro and Intel-based MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 or higher.
IF (big if) the card is PPC Mac compatible, only Late 2005 G5 machines have PCIe. All other G5s are PCI.
The Matrox card is PCIe, not PCI.

It is a common Urban Myth that the Snow Leopard EULA prohibits is virtualization in Lion, Mt. Lion, etc.  That myth has been debunked in the last two years.
The issue became substantially moot when Apple dropped its price for Snow Leopard Server by 95% to the same price for Snow Leopard: $19.95.

  • How would one install OS X without OS X?

    Hello there,
I was given a Unibody 13'' Macbook Pro from 2008 the other day from a friend. The hard drive failed and he got a newer model. I plan on purchasing a hard drive for it and use it myself, would become my college laptop. My question is, how would I install OS X on it? All the forums I've search imply that one already has OS X and what not. I was hoping to buy the Snow Leopard DVD and upgrade to Mavericks, or if possible head straight to Mavericks. Whatever seems best I'm looking for some help. Any ideas?

    Hi,
I have replaced, swopped out, 'refreshed' a number of old mac hard drives...by:
buying new SDD for example, plugging this into a sata usb dock, plugging this to another mac.
Going to my purchases in App store and downloading Mavericks, as soon as it has downloaded do not update, quit the installer, plug in your new drive, format if necessary, go to your applications folder and click on the Mavericks installer, with another drive plugged in  you will get an option to install Mavericks on that drive.
Select your new drive, install, can take a long time as it is ruining via usb.
Once installed, you will be running from your new drive. Follow all the instructions.
Shutdown, unplug and fit new drive to the old mac.
If all is well the old mac will boot from the new drive.

  • HT5246 How do you run the Flashback malware removal tool?

How do you run the Flashback malware removal tool?
    Thanks

I am away from my computer and it is somewhat awkward to reply on an iPad.
    > I had already done what softwater instructed. I've read that it deletes itself on other threads, but it's still in my Finder as a Device. That's what confused me, because it doesn't appear to have deleted itself.
Sorry, I wasn't clear. That is not the tool. It is the .dmg image mounted to your desktop. Next to the name you will see a small eject icon. Click on it or highlight it and choose "Eject" from the appropriate Finder menu. Once that happens you can drag the .dmg file to the trash as it will not delete itself.
    > I only recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and then Lion, in quick succession. My understanding is that there were (are) variants that would have infected my computer prior to my upgrading my OS to Lion. Before the upgrade, they were Adobe, but afterward they were Java. Could it be that be that the pop-ups were/are some other variant?
Difficult to say for certain. Apple says it deletes all the common variants but does not specify which and I haven't seen the results of any testing done to verify that it finds and deletes those. The only dialogs that appeared with the initial variants were for FlashPlayer. They are depicted in the descriptions for Flashback-A on F-Secures site if you want to take a look. There have been none that I am aware of for Java, so that is probably either a web page or application that needs Java to run giving you that alert.
    > If the Flashback malware removal tool didn't find anything and my Software Update is current, does that mean the vulnerability has been fixed? At least for now? I understand that I Software Update will prompt downloads in the future if and when it needs to be patched again.
The vulnerability is in Java, nowhere else, so if you don't have it installed there was nothing to fix.
If you download Java in the future it will be the latest version Apple has available at the time, which hopefully will not be subject to exploitation, yet...
