How would you backup your Frame-relay links betweeen sites?

We have a need to backup or do overflow type routing between sites in the event our frame-relay line goes down or service is degraded. We are exploring several options such a VPN using a access circuit or ISDN. What stategy are you currently and are you happy with thte performance?

Other than an ISDN as backup you could get a lower CIR frame circuit from another vendor and load balence weighing the load to your primary circuit

    General Database Characteristics:

    180GIG size database.
    High "oltp" environment.
Estimated growth of 40 to 60GIG/year
    20GIG of archivelogs/Day
Flashback time is 24 hours:120GIG of flashback space in avg
Local backup. Full database copy, then incremental is the preferred method.
That way, if a datafile goes bezerk, replace with backup datafile then recover.
Or if only a few corrupt block, block recover with rman.
BTW: Backup is done locally first, then send to another server, than on tape.
Archivelogs is duplexed on another server.

    Storage: Dell PowerVault MD3000

Here is my configuration so far:
OS+ oracle binary + Online Redo Logs Copy 1 + Control File Copy 1: 2 disks raid 1
flashback + backup + Online Redo Logs Copy 2 + Control File Copy 2: 4 disks raid 1 or 10

Temporary Datafiles: 1 disk no raid
UNDO Datafiles: 2 disks raid 1

Here is my reply concerning data separate from index files:
See http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/751 for the complete article.
"Why wouldn't you keep indexes separate from their tables?! Because doing so makes no difference to performance... and I patiently explained that a table and its index are never accessed simultaneously by a single user so that contention between them cannot arise. And yes, in a multi-user system, of course the two could be accessed simultaneously -but so could two tables, or two indexes. "

    Tina,
There's been a change in behaviour with FM11's Find/Change (as you've noticed). The dialog now retains focus after a search has been performed and is modal. However, the focus of the field for ctrl-F should place it in the Text area, regardless of platform, not execute the last operation. This is buggy behaviour and I just confirmed this on my platform (regardless of whether your in Doc A or B).

  • How do you backup your Zen Touch (or any other playe

I have some seen posts that suggest that you backup your MP3 player. This sounds like a sensible idea. I own a Zen Touch, and so far have been using WMP 0 exclusi'vely to sync files to my ZT.
Can someone tell specifically how I might backup my ZT (even though I have all my music on my PC, so I probably do not need to do something explicitly)?
I think others might find this backup information useful.

hot_guitar: Backing up is covered in my Nomad Primer, but as Cat intimates, it's just a case of backing up the data. There's no way just to image the player, for example.
lukeg_uk: Similar to hot_guitar, take a look at my Nomad Primer. I think you'll find you can't copy files with DRM back to the PC. I would guess there are guides about backing up the licenses and the files on the PC itself, at least you would hope (and this is one of the irritations about DRM).

Unless you've had to work with Oracle's BPEL technology, honey, you don't know what mess is.To be fair, when I worked on BPEL, it was in beta. We were suffering, and
Oracle sent us a "BPEL expert". When we described what we wanted him
to do, he looked at his watch, laughed and said, "Looks like it's going to
be a short workday for me". [...] Three weeks later, he crawled away. Later,
they sent us a very experienced developer. We told him of all the bugs
in BPEL we were having to work around, and he reassured us that
it had been thoroughly tested, and didn't think we had been really finding
bugs on the Oracle side. [...] It wasn't long before I saw him sheepishly
    submitting bug reports.
My feeling on Oracle is that there are some things they do well: their
core database stuff. But there trying to deliver the whole application stack,
and they're not that good in other areas. They also make you constantly
chase them as they keep upgrading and rolling out new technologies.
The blame for the whole mess goes to a senior manager, who moved
out of the project before it hit the fan. He agreed to use BPEL because
we were an "oracle shop". Ha! Yes, we used oracle databases, but
we had no experience with other oracle products. We were also sold
a chain a technologies that were never demonstrated to work together,
and it took us months and months to get anything up and running that
demonstrated an end-to-end run of the system.
End of rant. I hated that assignment so badly. I spent most of my time
    sitting in the stairwell.

  • How would you like your G5? well done or over easy?

I was working on my G5 today, left for a couple of minutes. When I got back, the computer was OFF and there was a SMELL in the air like "Baked Capacitor" or melted plastic. Of course I unplugged everything - next I will take it to the shop. It was not overheated or anything to the touch so I suspect a capacitor (but not certian) how can one prevent this? the machine ran well for about 3 years so I guess I cant complain except that it was out of warranty by only a few months! it was protected by surge protector (which still works fine) so I can't say it was a power surge. In fact Im sending this message via PC which is pluged into the same surge protector that the G5 was.

    Hi M-323,
I think it would probably be best to have someone look at it before you lay out any cash, just to confirm that it is the power supply and maybe not something cheaper or more expensive to fix.
Luckily you should be able to find out about that for free if you make an appointment and then take it to your nearest Apple "Genius" , which unluckily for you is some distance away. But if I were you I would make one attempt anyway, that should be all that is required.
When I took my G5 in to an Apple Store which was also in a large mall, I called ahead to make the appt. and also asked them if they had a cart or something that I could use once I got there. They did, and even though it was still a pain to lug around it made things much easier. These things are awkward and heavy. Afterward they let me use the cart as well to take it to my car. You might want to see about something like this. And because they go by appt. times you'll know when to be there.
In my opinion, from what I've gathered from these discussion pages, the 3 year mark is a critical time for a G5, so I think in all likelihood something just wore out. I'm hoping, and I have no reason to think otherwise, that your problem involves only your power supply and nothing else. Quite a few people have had their logic boards go a little after 3 years, or their processors. Those are a horrendous expense to fix. With a power supply I'm pretty sure it shouldn't top $300 to replace. Yeah, that's expensive, but a logic board replaced goes for well over a thousand.
So to sum up, what I would do in your place is to take it in and get it confirmed that it is indeed the power supply and nothing else. I would ask them for their estimate to fix it and then take it home again, unless money is not too much an issue.
Once I got it home I would go looking for a used power supply on the internet. Used ones can really be as good as new ones, they're not real complicated devices, they work or they don't. Once I found a power supply I would buy it and install it myself or let an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Repairer put it in for me. Probably the latter though I know of many people who've done it themselves.
Here are just a few places I've found that deal in used Mac parts:
    http://www.mac-pro.com/
    http://www.dvwarehouse.com/Apple-Parts-c-3987_238.html
    http://www.usedmac.com/
    http://www.secondhandmac.com/
And there are more out there. Plus I bet ebay is a good place to find mac parts too.
Good luck, M-323. Post back to say how things are going or if you have any other thoughts or questions. Have a good Holiday Season

  • How do you backup your ipod to a new computer?

I just got a new computer and hooked my Ipod up to it thinking I could readily back it up to my computer.  I keep getting a message that it's already linked to another computer - that would be the dead computer.

  • TS3992 How do you backup your iPod to iCloud?

I just got a new computer and I'm trying to transfer my iTunes library from my old computer to my new one. I want to back my iPod up to iCloud to possibly be able to do this. I keep getting an "Account not verified' message. When I check my e-mail to verify the account, there are no messages that would allow me to do so. I've checked the e-mail address and password numerous times and they are accurate. I don't know what else to try. Any Suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
