How you we design and create a star schema in Oracle BI?

We can use Informatica to generate ETL. But how do we design the star-schema?? Is there a design tool like Oracle Designer??
What is the purpose of the DAC??

You can handle the star schema design in the BMM layer. No separate tool for that.

DAC-
Data Warehouse Application Console (DAC) works together with Informatica to acomplish the ETL for pre-packaged BI application.
- DAC publish the changes from OLTP
- Informatica extracts the changes from the change log published by DAC as well as from the base table
- Informatica load the data to the stage tables and the target tables in the data warehouse
- DAC manage the performance by dropping indexes, truncating stage tables, rebuilding the indexes, and analyzing the tables during the process
If you do not use DAC, you have to write your own custom change capture process and need to redesign from scratch an ETL method that allow the restart of the ETL process from point of failure at record level. The biggest saving is that DAC can survive during the upgrade , while your custom processes cannot.

Would you recommend installing and creating apps in the apex install schema

Would you recommend installing and creating apps in the apex install schema for e.g. apex_040100? Or would you rather a separate tablespace be used for the application objects? In addition to this we are integrating it with Oracle EBS? Are there any industry best practices for creating tablespaces and schemas for apex applications?

EIS and setup of Star Schema

I want to be able to drill back into our ERP system from Essbase using EIS. It is my understanding that I need to create a Star Schema in order to get EIS to function properly. Is this correct?Another question is when I create the Dimension tables for the Star Schema, is a Parent Child Relationship sufficent or do I need to create a column for each level/generation in the dimension? Do I need this for Dimension build or Drill back reports?Thanks in advance.

How do I edit and create new Spry2 menu items?

I have manged to use adobe air to style and insert a spry2 menu - looks OK
However,I do not undestand how to edit the menu items
i.e. creating new menu items and adding new sub menu items
On spry1 it was easy - just click the top of the menu and a wizard appeared at the bottom of the page
The spry2 menu icon seems to be unclickable/greyed out?
Can anyone help

Thanks for the reply - I already thought of that and I can edit the menu using code view (although I am not sure how you would 'see the sub menus in design view?) but I was wondering if spry2 has the same time saving wizard in the properties panel (as Spry1) that simplifies and speeds up the process?
To restate the question: I can see a spry2 menu icon in the properties panel but it doesn't do anything as it's greyed out.
Is there an option in dreamweaver (or adobe air which styles the menu) that makes a menu wizard work in the properties panel?
If not then I guess I have to do it in code view - very tedious!?

HOW to read CLOB and create XML file on UNIX/LINUX

Could you please let me know, how to read CLOB using ADODB. I have column CLOB type on Oracle 9.2, with content of whole XML type. I am unable to retreive more than 4k. I use adLongVarChar. So I have written Oracle stored procedure to read the clob and create XML file using DBMS_LOB package and UTL_FILE package, still no joy.
Please help.

nobody has answered my question, so now I answer myself!!
The wrong part is to read the file with "open dataset" and to create the inputstream with
p_istream = p_streamfactory->create_istream_itable(
table = g_xml_table
size = g_xml_size ).
Better ist to create the inputstream with
p_istream = p_streamfactory->create_istream_uri(
.......................PUBLIC_ID = ''
.......................SYSTEM_ID = '
applserver\I$\TEMP\Datei.XML' ).
In this way no space is needed for the file.

How can I change and create new events?

iPhoto for iPad seems to stick some naming convention for creating Events. Is there a way to:
1. change the Event name?
2. Split events?
3. Rearrange photos to certain events?

It is very simple. To create an event, you can tell Siri, tell her to create events and she will ask you questions and at the end, the event will be done. Or go to the calendar and on the top right corner there should be a + and then you enter the information for the event and hit done. To edit the events, simply go tot he calendar and tap on the event, there it will show you the information and then you can change it.

How to convert database in 3NF to Star schema

Hi
Can anyone help me out to convert the database in 3NF to Star schema so that it can be used for Business Intelligence.
Our Application will be populating the database in normal 3NF form which may be difficult for the intelligence to generate queries from it. From the documents given, i saw that only star schema containing dimensions table and fact table is simpler to generate reports. Is there any tool that would convert the schema from 3NF to star schema?

Hi,
I do not know any tools that would do this for you. You can apply a certain logic to create your dimensions and facts, but decisions will have to be taken along the way.
You need to know the basis of database design for datawarehousing. A few good books and articles are available on the subject.

What best adobe programs to (design) and (create) animated gif or image ?

first thank you very much for helping me,
i am about creating an animated gif like the background you can see in war craft 3 frozen throne for a game,
i have to design it first with high quality so i need to know best adobe programs can do that, although i need to know the easiest, so i need to know both of them the best and the easiest so if didn't made it with the best i can made it with the easiest pro, and please put in mind that i need a program to design the image from nothing so i will draw it or design it i don't know depending on the program it self but i will not use it for editing or use an image already there, i need an elite pro that allow to create the image from nothing.
after that i need to create an animated gif for the image (gif not good for high quality images so if you know better please tell),
for example "Her hair moves with the moving wind" so i need to move it, i don't know how so i need a program to make it move too.
last thing at the end i need the file type be accepted in html(5) adobe games programs like flash builder or flash pro for example, i know flash pro can animate it but will not design it, thank you again.

It may require a few different apps. Clearly the number one app is you and your ability to conceptualize. And, it depends on what type of animation you ultimately want produced. Game graphics is a lot different than a web banner animated .gif. I'm thinking Illustrator, Photoshop, Edge Animate, and After Effects.

I would like to know how to add images and create a slide show

The image I try to add to my web page show up as grayed out boxes and never show up.
I would also love to learn how to make a slide show to enhance my home page.

The easiest way is to go to:
Insert >> Image
This method will allow you to browse the image you want to insert. I am, of course, assuming you have defined your site and that you have created a folder for images in line with "best practice" of good web designing. If not, it doesn't matter because you will get a prompt to move the image to your site if it is not already there.

For slide show, your best option is to google for it because there are some really good scripts out there that can do a fantastic job for you.

How to name elements and create cluster of named elements

I wanted to detail the steps I found, so that others could more easily follow what I found going through these discussions. While there are numerous examples, they lack details such as function names and how to achieve the steps. Most of them seem to cover only arrays. I welcome corrections. I'm not saying this is the best way; it is, however, a simple detailed description of one way to do it.
I wanted to create a cluster of various data types that could then be manipulated by name. Unfortunately, simply wiring an existing cluster to a Bundle by Name.vi does not assign the existing labels of the elements to the name field of the cluster. I don't know why.
1. Create an input cluster with dummy constants of the proper data type for each element.
How do you create an input cluster? Searching functions finds no "Input Cluster" function.
The only way I found was to place a dummy Bundle by Name.vi , right-click at the top of the leftmost of the two rectangles and select Create, then Constant. The result looks like the attached Creating Input Cluster.PNG
You might as well delete the Bundle by Name.vi at this point, because the changes make to the input cluster will only be reflected when it is connected to a NEW Bundle by Name.vi
Next, for my purposes, I needed constants for DBL numeric, string, and array of strings. I started by placing one DBL and one string constant on the block diagram. I copied these to create the ones I needed. Make the labels visible and type in the names corresponding the Bundle Names desired.
Since there is no function called "String Array constant", it is necessary to place the "Array Constant" function on the Block Diagram, then drag a string constant into the empty right hand square of the Array Constant. It immediately changes color to show it is a string array.
Drag each of these constants into the input cluster so that they appear in the order desired. It is a bit of a pain because the square resizes tightly around the existing elements after each insertion. You have to keep expanding the box at the bottom by dragging its sizing handles, so you can be sure each item is added to the bottom of the list. When done, my input cluster looks like Completed Input Cluster.png attached.
2. Place a NEW Bundle by Name.vi on the Block Diagram. Wire the input cluster to the top of the left rectangle of the function. Drag the down sizing handle of the Bundle by Name.vi until all the elements of the cluster are visible. You will see the names and it will look like Bundle by Name with assigned names.png attached.
3. All that remains is to connect the data wires for the individual elements to the left side of each named block and wire the output cluster. The result is shown in Complete design producing cluster of named elements.PNG attached. (Since only three attachments seem to be allowed, this last will be in a follow-up post.)

I wanted to add a brief statement about EDITING cluster controls because newcomers to cluster usage (like myself). The HELP is good on creation but says nothing about modification. While it has been posted other places, I think a "newbie" might appreciate getting this info here.
To edit a cluster control, open the CTL file, then
Add a control by creating the control on the front panel, then save the control.
To remove a a control, delete the control, then save the control file.
(Simple enough)
To modify an existing control
1. Move the control out of the cluster into a blank VI.
2. SAVE the cluster control file (CTL).
3. Modify the control in the blank VI.
4. Drag the modified control back into the cluster control.
5. SAVE the cluster control file (CTL)
NOTE WELL: don't skip step 2.

How to copy VI and create new subVI paths

Hi all,
I'm still pretty new to LabView, and I'm not sure how to properly do this..
Basically I have a working VI which validates a chassis, but I want to use the code on another chassis. The only differences (that I know of) are the login name and password for the new chassis. I enter these two fields using string constants in a subVI.
If I simply copy the directory of the VI and all the subVIs to a new directory, and open one of the new .VIs, any of my changes are updated to the original VI. How do I break the links to the 'old' files?
I want to have separate directories for chassis "A" and chassis "B" with all the necessary VIs and subVIs in each, even if the files are redundant on the hard drive (in case the VIs or subVIs need minute changes).
Sorry for the vagueness in the subject, by the way.

Are you using projects?
Copy the code to your new location. Create a project and add the folder that contains your code. Use the conflict resolver to fix your VIs.
In some weird situations, I have also been known to delete the old project, resolve the conflicts for the new project, and then restore the old project from the recycling bin.
