Howto avoid upmixing 2.0 stereo to 5.1 or 7.1?

Hi there,
I have a Audigy 2 card with a Gigaworks 750 setup.
5.1 Surround works great, but 2.0 stereo comes out of all the speakers. How can I get it to just come out of the two speakers in front?
I'm not even sure if this upmixing is done by the linux driver, by the Audigy 2 card or by the Gigaworks 750, but I'd like it to stop!
Anybody have any idea how to do this?
Peter

turn off the eax cmss, or set your speakers to 2

  • Howto avoid specifying the type for every subclass?

    Hi,
I have a base-class called DynTableColumn, one subclass which further restricts the type and a bunch of subclasses of that type.
    class BaseClass<E> {}
    StricterBaseClass<E extends ArgumentType> extends BaseClass<E> {}
    ConcreteClass1<E extends ArgumentType> extends StricterBaseClass<E> {}
    ConcreteClass2<E extends ArgumentType> extends StricterBaseClass<E> {}
    ConcreteClass3<E extends ArgumentType> extends StricterBaseClass<E> {}
ConcreteClass4<E extends ArgumentType> extends StricterBaseClass<E> {}Is there any way to avoid specifying <E extends ArgumentType> for ConcreteClass 1-4 again and again?
After all, the type information is already set by StricterBaseClass.
Re-thinking the question I guess I am searching for a way to de-generify concrete subclasses.
For the example above I know the generic type is of type ArgumentType, so no further need to specify it in the class hierachy nore at construction time.
    Thank you in advance, Clemens

    ConcreteClass3 extends StricterBaseClass {}

    hi,

    Hi,
Note that generating the DDL for Oracle 12c means that it will attempt to use your Oracle 12c Physical model.  So if you normally use Oracle 10g or 11g, you will find that any details from your Oracle 10g or 11g Physical Model will not be included.  So this approach may have other implications for you.
If you are not using Oracle 12c, there are some relevant properties on the Auto Increment tab of the Relational Model properties dialog for the Column which may help:
Sequence Name - allows you to specify the name of the Sequence (which can be the name of a Sequence defined in the relevant Physical Model).
Trigger Name - allows you to specify the name of a Trigger (which can be the name of a Trigger that is defined for the Table in the Physical Model).
Generate Trigger - unsetting this will stop the Trigger being generated.

  • HOWTO: Avoid go to detail block without fullfill the master block?

    Hi:
I have a master detail form with 2 blocks. When the user open the form the focus is on the first text item (required = yes) of the master block. If the user tries to get out of that item with keyboard (tab or enter), it gets the correct message saying that the item is required and must be filled. But the problem starts when the user click with the mouse on another item of the detail block. Here, I will have 8 or 9 messages saying that is impossible to create records without a master record. This is really annoying. This message has no ID (FRM-XXXXX), and I really must get a way to forbide users to go to the detail block without filling required items in the master.
    Anyone?
    Best Regards

I hate when my disk spins up every 10 seconds just to write 28k and a 4k block (at least that's what dstat tells me).

`touch a` makes my hard disk to wake up in ~ 7 seconds.

assuming that you are not running whatever indexing/crap facilitating daemons: use syscals to fix vm.dirty_writeback_centisecs, dirty_background_ratio
    vm.dirty_ratio, vm.vfs_cache_pressure,
you may consider I/O scheduler optimized for your fs,
there are syscals specific for fs
ext3/4 do a lot of stuff by default if not controlled
properly set up should help with desktop interactivity and file transfer

  • Howto avoid over-resolution when printing & Graphics.scale?

    Hello,
The application I've created uses I Graphics.scale to generate thinner lines which act as cells of a grid.
The problem is that I've to print as thin lines as possible, but if I scale too much my lines aren't printed because the printer's DPI is lower than what I've set my Graphics2d object :-/
Are there any existing solutions to overcome this problem?
I would be really happy about any hints, since I was not able to find a solution ... really great would be if it the solution would be java-1.3 compatible.
Thank you in advance, lg Clemens

    Hello,
thanks for your comment, but I had already this information. I want a good grey scale print with a low resolution because if you make the resolution high the file archives become quite big which costs money for hardware.
My personal impression is, that you can't solve this problem because it is problem of the printing drivers that SAP uses. So one has to look for better third party solutions or wait until SAP has better printing drivers.

  • "Up Mix" from 2-channel "Stereo" audio content to 5.1/7.1 Surround

    Hello,
This is a feature that I had strongly hoped would make it to Media Center in Windows 8, but didn't.  Please consider this for a future update and/or the next version of Windows...
Feature Request:  "Ability to Configure Stereo Up-Mix Capability in Windows Media Center and/or Windows Media Player from 2-channel Stereo to 5.1/7.1 Surround so Stereo MP3/WMA audio files output to *all* speakers in my system, not just the left and
    right main speakers."
    More information:
My audio content (MP3s, WMAs, etc.) are of course all 2-channel stereo format (left channel, right channel).  My home theater PC outputs to my home theater receiver (which is a 2012-model Sony 5.1/7.1 receiver) via HDMI.  When I play
2-channel music (MP3s, WMAs, etc.) from Windows Media Player (WMP) and Windows Media Center (WMC) both in Windows 7 and Windows 8, I only hear music from the left and right main speakers, *not* the subwoofer not the rear surround speakers.
In order for this to happen, WMP/WMC would need to "up mix" the stereo signal to take full advantage of my physical speaker configuration (as specified in my Windows' Playback Devices configuration, which Windows is able to discern from the capabilities of
my receiver).  Media Center even has an Audio setup in which the end user configures the audio configuration to either Stereo, 5.1, or 7.1 yet music is still output over only two channels!
I would like to see WMC/WMP either "automagically" perform the "up mix" or provide the user with an option to enable/disable it when 2-channel Stereo audio content is played.
Too difficult?  Rhapsody.com already accomplishes this with its online audio player!  Note that my audio equipment has the capability of forcing output to two channels between the PC and the receiver, which my receiver will then up-mix, but this
requires physically maintaining a dip switch and also several button presses on my receiver's remote... and this physical configuration must be updated each and every time I switch between audio and movies.  Too much work when it could be accomplished
    automatically by WMP/WMC!
Thank you for your consideration of this feature request!
    -Tretchie

The ability of windows to better control audio channel output is definitely an issue that needs to be fixed. It's really basic in this day and age where everyone and there mother has more than two speakers (i.e. 5.1 or 7.1). I understand that certain media
players, or certain decoders/channel mixers can be a workaround for this problem. But that's not enough. Today, we have many different sources for audio that are not just files on a computers:
    1) Video/Movie files on computers (played through media center, MPC-HD or other)
    2) MP3s/audio (played through same)
    But there is also:
HTML5, webpages, Netflix, Amazon TV, Flash players, silverlight, etc. etc.
Hence why windows needs an option at the level of windows audio decoder to better control channel outputs over LPCM-HDMI! Either Mirroring L/R outputs to rear/side speakers, or, formal upmixing algorithms like Dolby Pro Logic etc., applied before
outputting over HDMI (Note I am NOT talking about bitstreaming!)
This is a trivial problem using WASAPI or ASIO. Why has windows audio not been properly updated since Windows XP!!
Recently, HTPCs and Media Centers are becoming many households primary source of entertainment.
    Examples of some issues:
    1) With no bitstreaming at all:
    - Configuring HDMI audio "Playback device" to 5.1/7.1, and,
    - Using a software decoder/media player to decode Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS-True HD, or Dolby True HD, and sending the data in LPCM over HDMI to the receiver/soundbar
-> works totally fine for outputting 5.1/7.1 surround from those sources
-> windows (i.e. software) completely fails in any ability to upmix 2.0 stereo sources to 5.1 or 7.1, or even mirror L/R channels to rear/side L/R channel for more room filling sound. Both these options should be available - upmixing with Dolby or other
for videos and mirroring/doubling the channels for music/MP3s.
Instead, windows audio sends silent channels over LPCM/HDMI when playing a stereo source. This has the added awful effect of not even letting my receiver upmix/mirror the outputs.
Hence, we need the ability to duplicate (for audio) and upmix (for videos) the L/R channels in a stereo source to the Rear L/R and or Side L/R channels through windows audio "playback devices" configuration before outputting over HDMI-LPCM!
In the day and age of 5.1 and 7.1 speakers this seems like such a BASIC feature that is missing.Otherwise, so many of us with an HTPC in our living room as our main source of media can't play music mirrored
through all our speakers, or watch videos with upmixed audio.
HDMI is the new standard, so this should really become an option.
I've done a fair amount of research on this problem, and do not believe there is any solution short of switching to optical (which I do not want to do because it can only carry 5.1) or, buying a fancy receiver instead of a soundbar with discrete rears and
a subwoofer (which I have) to do the mirroring/upmixing for me.

  • Problem with Alsa

    Hello,
I have got a problem with my asoundrc.. The problem is the lowpass filter with the subwoofer. It gets all frequencies. I've tried different soulutions from different forums witth different asoundrc. config codes. But nothing of them worked. Another hint is the thing, that the upmix from a stereo source to 5.1 worked out of the box with my soundcard. And when I now try to fill the asoundrc. there is no change or if it's the default device sometimes an error message. But it all seems to be unchanged when I edit it.
    Thank you!

  • Inspire T6100

I have recently purchased the inspire T6100 5.1 system. I believe my laptop has an analog 2 sound card, what do I need to connect and use the T6100. Can the same be used to connect the speakers to my dvd player? Are the speakers compatible with an ipod? Requesting early replies as I can't wait to use the speakers.

If you want 5.1 from your laptop, your best bet is a decent usb 5.1 external sound card. I think the "Live! 24-bit External" is such an example, but am not sure. A usb2 one would probably be a better bet anyway. Bear in mind, if you are not planning to do much surround on the laptop (ie, no dvds, gaming etc) then I would just hook the stereo from the built in sound up to your speakers. It will still sound great, just from two speakers.
As for the dvd player, you need to have a look and see if it has 5.1 outputs (lots of rma/phono connections). If it does, you just need phono to 3.5mm jack leads to hook up to the speakers. If it only offers stereo and digital outputs, you would need something like the ddts-100 to decode it. This would have the advantage that it would act as a switch for the dvd/laptop and would upmix the laptops stereo too.

  • Surround card in iMac?

If I connect my brand new iMac to a surround receiver with optical input, will I get real surround when watching a DVD with DVD application? I know practically all new surround receivers can upmix mono or stereo, but this is not real surround.
And, does anybody know what kind of sound card there is in new intel iMac's?
PS! I am aware of minijack----->toslink cable.

Haven't actually tried it, but I think you're in luck:

  • Fix for Bass Redirection issue in sig

    Hi everybody,
I have just ordered a Teufel Concept E 5. Speaker System. For that reason I'm now also dealing with the purchse of a 5. sound card. At first my favourite was the Audigy 2 ZS, but now I'm hesitating because I've read on several forums that the Teufel System also suffers from the Audigy series' malfunctioning driver-implemented Bass Redirection (an issue firstly reported 3 years ago, January 2002!!!) when it comes to upmix a stereo source to 5..
Just to remember: If Bass Redirection is unchecked in the drivers, the whole frequency spectrum of the stereo source will be directly sent to the front left/right channels (and no other channels), and the connected speaker system will have to split the frequency bands and feed its subwoofer with low-pass signals and the sats with high-pass signals (For example this is the case with Creative's own speaker systems which have internal crossovers). But most non-Creative 5. Systems don't have this internal functionality of mixing a stereo input up to subwoofer and sats. For such systems Creative implemented the "Bass Redirection" in their drivers: sub frequencies of the stereo source are low-pass filtered and sent to the discrete subwoofer output of the sound card. The issue is that this signal from the subwoofer output is too weak, forcing users to find workarounds to get bass when they're listening to stereo sources (such as Music in Winamp).
This issue, although known for 3 (three!!!) years now, has not yet been fixed by Creative. In late November 2004, Cat has replied to the Monster thread dealing with this issue on the old forums (http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/forums/thread.asp?thre=396&foru=5&page=34) (scroll down), promising to forward the issue to the driver dev team, but since that day nothing has happened anymore.
My question to the mods: is there a chance that this driver issue will be fixed in the near future? Otherwise I'll have to reconsider my options concerning my sound card purchase.

I have the same thing with this option -and I asking for fix (again....)
I have Audigy 2 ZS OEM, Yamaha RXV-440 Home Cinema Recei'ver and big 5. home cinema speakers. Audigy 2 ZS is connected to Yamaha by 3 analog outputs (connecting it by spdif cause no CMSS stereo to surround upmix and only stereo sound for all none DD/DTS sound sources like MP3, games, mpg/DivX/XviD films...thats why I must connect them by annalog outputs/inputs).
When I disable bass redirection then speakers have full frequency response (20Hz - 20kHz) but there is no any signal on sub output (when I play stereo sound with CMSS Stereo Surround enabled).
When I enable bass redirection and set cutoff frequency to 70Hz then there is signal on analog sub out but speakers have bass cutted off (20Hz - 70Hz) and playing only frequencies from 70Hz to 20kHz
This option causing waste of basse from speakers (they have beatyful basse but no with this drivers).
Even when bass redirection is enabled, signal from sub output is very weak - I don't have so high sub volume regulation to turn it sound loud enough
I have this problems on SB Li've, I have this problem on Audigy 2 ZS and this problem still exist on Audigy 4 !!! (I'am using now modded Audigy 4 drivers to work on all Audigy series but there is the same problem as in orginal A2 ZS drivers).
I'am requesting only 2 fixes in drivers that is satisfy me completly (not only me - many people have the same problem):
. Add an option that will disable bass cutting from speakers when bass redirection is enabled or make bass redirection working only for subwoofer without any speakers frequency cutting.
    2. Make signal from analog sub out louder because this volume level is not acceptable !!!
    Please...
This problems causing that I starting to think about some other sound card from other producent...because that can't be Message Edited by FPPfan on 02-0-2005 08:52 PM

  • X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro (PCI) and S/PDIF Out

Creative support is an oxymoron. It took them 2 people and probably 0 emails to answer simple question. Worst part is, they answered it twice with different answers.
I would like to know if it's possible to get EAX effects and those other goodies out of my X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatalty Pro via S/PDIF to an external DAC?
I read that it might be possible with the Titanium but I would like some clarification on this. What's the limiter between the two models? Is it just a driver issue or is it embedded in the X-Fi chip? If the Titanium is capable of EAX through digital out does that mean it's using it's internal DAC to do so thus defeating the purpose of an external DAC?
    Thanks.

@Re: "EAX effects, CMSS, etc... are not applicable when u...8 NO, NO, NO!
You absolutely CAN get EAX, CMSS-3D over S/PDIF on the older PCI X-Fi cards using this download:
    http://buy.soundblaster.com/_creativelabsstore/cgi-bin/pd.cgi?page=product_detail&category=Software&pid=F 2222DDN6Z2H2ADDEZD
If you want to breath new life into your older PCI X-Fi this is the best $5 you will spend before the New Year!? That download pack enables Dolby Digital Li've and DTS Connect on your PCI X-Fi giving it the same functionality as the newer PCIe X-Fi Titanium series.
You get full EAX and positional sound in movies/games and can also upmix music from stereo sources with either CMSS-3D or DTS Neo PC. Well worth it, the only problem I experienced is the DTS/DD Li've stream prevents my system from going into S3 Sleep by itself, but this also holds true with my Auzentech X-Fi HT HD.

  • Cannot Stream Audio from Speakers

I have a USB headset and USB Webcam with Microphone built in connected to my system. When I try to select an audio source in FMLE, They both show up - but not my system audio, or computer speakers, or whatever it should be called. (It's called Computer Speakers in Control Panel). I want to stream game play to twitch.tv, but I can't do this with no audio!?
A friend directed me to find some "virtual audio cables", and another post mentioned using a line to connect from line-out to line in making this selectable in FMLE (This sounds like it shouldn't be necessary).
Is there any EASY solution to this?

I was finally able to get this working on my Windows 7 machine.  I followed the instructions here:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/39532/how-to-enable-stereo-mix-in-windows-7-to-record-audio /
Note, I did have to install the latest drivers for my audio driver.  In my case, the default Dell drivers did not show the Stereo Mix option.

  • Is it possible to transmit my computer sounds AND ...

Hello. I sometimes like to "stream" gameplay via skype to a friend using the Share Screens option, but the one major problem is that the sound does not come through, so they cannot hear what is happening in the game, only what  I say. Is there a way to use the computer's sound as my input?

You can join mic audio and computer audio together by using stereo mix and setting it as the recording device in Skype.
