Howto config  Backup Directory Server.

Now I have primary ids 5.0. I install a backup ids and replicate netscaperoot db. But after i start backup ids console. Host name of ids server in the Admin console change to primary ids and cannot start Directory Server Console.
how to config this solution corectly?

Can you describe in detail what you have done? do you have any instance of directory server running besides o=netscaperoot instance??
If you are trying to configure replication to your backup DS you should not be having any issues.
can you privide errors you might be seeing in admin servers error logs and access logs and also any other error messages.

  • Net8 Config/Directory Server Problem

I have installed personnal 8i on my Windows 2000 Advanced Server box. I want to test it on this server only, don't want to do any networking, etc. How do I set up the Net8 config for no networking. Do I need to ?
I can get the listener set up and started, but do I need it ?
Every time I try to do anything, I get an error regarding "can't connect to a directory server" I have been trying to use the Net8 config ass't to set it, but can't get that working either. The server does have a host name and an IP address, but does'nt belong to a domain. I don't want to install active directory.
How can I get this to run "stand alone" ??
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Greg Stahl

The directory server reports all connections, requests and results in the logs/access file (under the instance directory).
All errors are reported in the logs/errors file.
Additional messages can be generated by changing the errorlog level and infolog levels via the Console, or via LDAP. Please refer to the Administration Guide and the Reference Manual for the details.

  • Backup of Sun ONE Directory Server 5.2

    Hello,
I am new to Sun ONE Directory server and I installed a copy of version 5.2 on Windows 2000 server and want to ask for your help that how could I backup the LDAP server?
Since there is tool for backup of data but how could I recover if the server instance is failed?
    Thanks in advanced.
    Pat

    Hi Pat,
If you are new to the Directory Server, then it is recommended to study the documentation ;-).
Chapter 4 of the Administrators Guide discusses the backup and restore procedures.
    See: http://docs.sun.com/source/816-6698-10/populate.html
If you cannot start the directory server because the database is corrupted, then you may want to use the off-line restore tools (e.g. bak2db).
Before you do anything, study the above chapter.

  • Backup / Journaling function for IPlanet Directory Server?

    Hi,
does the iPlanet Directory Server provide a journaling function (logging and restore possibility of all changes made between two backups) ?
I cant find anything in the docs, but I somehow cant image that this feature is not supported ...
    Thanks

I'd be interested to know this, as well. Did you find an answer for this?

  • Config time machine server to create folder backups, not sparsebundles?

I just upgraded to OS X Lion server.  It has two hard drives, an OS X drive and a fileshare drive.
Two of my macs connecting to OS X Lion are on Lion, one is on Snow Leopard.  The Server is connected via ethernet to the network, as is one of the 3 macs.  The other two are connected wirelessly.
When I turn on the time machine service for all 3 macs, Lion Server creates the backup dirctory on the fileshare hard drive with no problem.  The Macs can all see the backup directory and backup with no issues.
However, I expected the backups to be file directories (like a time capsule), but got sparsebundles.  Is there anyway to configure Lion Server to backup to a directory structure (e.g., backups > backup date > folders) vs. sparsebundles?

@camelot I'm basically trying to use a central server to backup all content on my network, including TM backups.  If I have a fire or theft and lose everything, I can grab the TM backups from CP, copy them down to several hard drives, and restore to new macs.
Given all non-connected backups are sparsebundles, I will just turn TM off on each machine and then use applescript to open all the bundles on the server.  Once opened, will use applescript to copy the contents to the fileshare and let crashplan upload them over the next week or so.  Then once it's done I can setup a schedule to do it again on a every week or 2 week basis.  Going forward, CP will recognize the duplicate files and just grab the new files from backups from the past period for all the TM sparsebundles.
@camelot thanks again for the helpful reply.

  • Backup in Directory Server

How to take backup in directory Server ?

  • Using iplanet console, is it possible to restore directory server A backup to directory sever B, if it's on the same box?  Or on a different box?

I've tried and the data is there but not the object class or attributes. Also, what manuals do you recommend for the admin/mgmt of these servers? Thank you for your help ahead of time.

It seems that restoring a backup from server A to Server B is working if : the path names to the database are exactly the same (which implies a different machine), the indexes are exactly the same and the disk and filesystem are the same on both machines.
But this is not supported... ie we didn't fully tested it, and we don't really know when it works and when it doesn't.

    Hi All,
I have recently attempted an installation of Sun Directory Server EE 6.0 on a x86 Solaris 10 machine.

If i try to initialize the SUNDSCC usin the ./dsccsetup initialize command, the registry got created, but it still displays as "application not installed".
I do not understand. I have already installed this application using the JES installer.

I had a similar issue. Here is how I fixed it.
Run dsccsetup status with the -v option. it will show you where it is trying to find the DSCC Application. Then do a find on your system to see where it is actually installed. • Unable to Start/Stop Directory server from console

We have two Directory Server 5.2 installations with both running as masters with replication between them. One of them was installed with the admin server and the other without. On the one that was installed without the admin server we added it afterwards.
We now find that on the one that had the admin server installed after the directory server that we cannot start/stop the directory server from the server console nor can we view or access backups or logs from the console. The system does however create the log and backup files and we can start/stop it from the command line.
I read in a post somewhere that the admin server can be created with a different user from the directory server or with the same username but a different domain and wondered if that was the problem but have looked through the configuration files on both machines and haven't managed to spot a discrepancy.
Does anyone have any ideas where and what to check?
    Thanks in advance.
    Peter

Ah, I wouldn't have recognized this scenario if you didn't report the scrozzled user name. The "access denied" error happens for the simple reason that 'IAyjcJlYKL' is not a valid user in your domain. Fancy that. If you look in your config.xml for the "node-manager-username" element, you may find the value is encrypted, and probably is 'IAyjcJlYKL'.
It might be best if you filed a support case for this. I can make some guesses about what you should do, but it's just a guess. In any case, if you try fixing something, make a backup of the file first.
The two things you can try doing are (backup the files and shut down everything first):
    * Edit the nm_password.properties file, replacing the one "hashed" line with two lines, setting the "username" property and the "password" property, both in cleartext. When the nodemanager starts up, it will replace those two lines with the "hashed" value.
    * Edit the config.xml file, replacing the values in the "node-manager-username" and "node-manager-password-encrypted" elements with their cleartext versions.
Then start up the nodemanager and server.
I'm familiar with this because I saw this happen, and I'm trying to remember the strange thing we had to do. I worked this out with BEA support a while ago. If it helps, my case number was #796710.

  • OVD - Integration with Sun Java system Directory Server

    Hi All,
I have the following iusse, i'm trying to configure OVD 11.1.1.3 with Sun Java System Directory Server adapter for enterprise user security but when I import Oracle ldif schema file (iPlanetSchema.ldif) I have the following error:

    I'm reading the following document:

    Thanks in advance,

Thank you very much. The name of the file is actually C:\WINDOWS\system32\productregistry.
I renamed that to productregistry BACKUP and I can now install the LDAP. Man, I should have posted this a week and a half ago when I first started having this issue. It would have prevented a few forehead dents from banging my head on the keyboard.

  • Configure replication between directory server 5.1 and 5.2

we have two directory servers running on different machine 5.1 and new 5.2. All database have been successfully backup and restore from 5.1 to new 5.2. In this scenario, we would like to setup 5.1 and new 5.2 D.S as multi-master replication.
As described in the sun Documentation, we have copy few ldif file from new 5.2 to 5.1 so that both schema are up to date.
The new instance of 5.2 is running fine. However, on the other hand, 5.1 has a problem to start the server as show in the following below.
    # ./start-slapd
[31/May/2005:14:07:43 +0800] dse - The entry cn=schema in file /usr/iplanet/servers/slapd-ifpdev02/config/schema/50ns-admin.ldif is invalid, error code 21 (Invalid syntax) - object class nsAdminServer: Unknown required attribute type "nsServerID"
[31/May/2005:14:07:43 +0800] dse - Please edit the file to correct the reported problems and then restart the server.
Any help from you guys are greatly appreciated.

I recommened that you read the Release Notes of DS5.2, there are some notes on Replication between 5.1 and 5.2.
    ===
In Directory Server 5.2, the schema file 11rfc2307.ldif has been altered to conform to rfc2307. If replication is enabled between 5.2 servers and 5.1 servers, the rfc2307 schema MUST be corrected on the 5.1 servers, or replication will not work correctly.
    Workaround
To ensure correct replication between Directory Server 5.2 and Directory Server 5.1, perform the following tasks:
    * For zip installations, remove the 10rfc2307.ldif file from the 5.1 schema directory and copy the 5.2 11rfc2307.ldif file to the 5.1 schema directory. (5.1 Directory Server Solaris packages already include this change.)
    * Copy the following files from the 5.2 schema directory into the 5.1 schema directory, overwriting the 5.1 copies of these files:
    11rfc2307.ldif, 50ns-msg.ldif, 30ns-common.ldif, 50ns-directory.ldif, 50ns-mail.ldif, 50ns-mlm.ldif, 50ns-admin.ldif, 50ns-certificate.ldif, 50ns-netshare.ldif, 50ns-legacy.ldif, and 20subscriber.ldif.
    * Restart the Directory Server 5.1 server.
    * In the Directory Server 5.2 server, set the nsslapd-schema-repl-useronly attribute under cn=config to on.
    * Configure replication on both servers.
    * Initialize the replicas.
    ===
Also search for "migrate" or "repl" or "5.1" in Release Notes and read the relevant information.

  • Lion Server problem - Computer is already a network directory server

So I purchased Lion Server to trial it at home and it is not going well. Initially I was having issues connecting to the web interfaces for profile manager, etc. The server was not responding and so I uninstalled server and reinstalled it from the Mac Store (FYI: Apple has charged me for the OS and the server app as a result of this for some reason!!!)
With Server reinstalled I went to set up the server as a network directory and am shown this message every time I try to set up the directory admin account: "Computer is already a network directory server - This computer is already configured to manage network accounts. It cannot be configured again."
This leaves me unable to set up any profile or device management, I have tried the following solutions:
    Uninstall and reinstall server
    Deleted ServerVersion plist
    Reinstalled Lion
Reinstalled Lion with format of HDD (although I did recover from a Time Machine Backup which included settings)
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • SMTP requests cause the directory server to allocate all processor resource

    Using JES 2005Q1.
The problem started when adding mass number of users. When running the commadmin for a long time, the system will hang. We tuned the directory server by increasing the database, initialization and entry cache. I changed many other parameters to tune parameters. It was worthless.
I shifted to ldif and used ldapmodify to create those users.
The users were created successfully. But when the smtp traffic was directed to the server, the nslapd process will allocate 95% of the CPU in 5 minutes.
The problem is in the way the directory server is searched when it accepts an smtp request.
Knowing that the server is currently used only for Messaging Server, any suggestions on how to improve the performance of the directory?
    Thanks in advance.

The "lookthroughlimit" is set to -1.
I sent from a local user on the server to the same user and the log was this :

  • Redundent mail server setup (backup mail server)

i have been reading all the post of setting up a mackup postfix server. i have looked at the configuration files and have a second machine ready to be implemented but have some questions on how exactly the backup works. my current setup is:
    - xserve1 with 10.4.3 OD master running mail, web, dns, ichat, ftp, host name is mail.mydomain.com
    - xserve2 with 10.4.3 (i will make this replica) running web and backup dns
    - G4 466MHz with 10.4.3 Server running mail and web, host name is mail2.mydomain.com (this is to bemy postfix backup server)
all 3 are behind a firewall with NAT. they have local LAN IPs with NAT to 3 separate WAN IPs and open ports for the needed services.
my first question is: do i need to run dns as well on mail2.mydomain.com?
while i understand that mail stays in the queue on the postfix backup, does that mean that while mail.mydomain.com (primary mail server) is down users will not be getting any mail? can the users actually login to the mail2.mydomain.com and if yes how do they authorize?
should i keep mail2.mydomain.com as a standalone or make it part of the directory?
    any info is appreciated.
    thanks
    martin
    xserve G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

don't mail servers hold mail for days anyway and keep
retrying and when our mail comes back up will get all
    the mail?
Yes, they typically do (unless some braindead administrator has configured his server to try only for a few hours or so).
i assume there is no difference if my
backup mail server runs on 10.3.9 then?
    None whatsoever.
    - is there a practical way to set up a mail that
clinets can login to and check mail while the primary
    server is down?
    Practical? No.
can the backup server forward as well
while it holds to the queue?
Why would you want that? Where should it forward to if the primary is down? As soon as the primary is up, the secondary will forward to i.
the last time i had some
coruption and problems with reconstruct (which you
helped me with), we were down for 24 hours. i am
trying to avoid this. i have an image and i run
mailbfr to backup i assume i can use that in case of
harware failure or massive os corruption that may
    take hours to fix.
If push comes to shove this may help. Although images are never too brilliant for mail services recovery.
my problem is that if this happens
during the week, during daytime we cannot really
afford to be down at that time.
This is really your call. Only you can decide how much money you want/need to throw at resilience. But if you decide you cannot afford more than an hour of downtime, you will need far more than an onsite secondary mx
