HOWTO deploy a JClient App in a 3tier Environment : Road Map needed.

I've a JClent App and I need to run it in a 3tier environment.
I mean I need to have as less code as possible running onto the client, distributed via Web Start, and as much code as possible running onto the Application Server (OC4J) in orer to take advantage of all Application Server facilities.
OC4J does it, BC4J does it, JDeveloper does it but I don't understand how.
I read the documentation but wasn't able to find my solution.
I need a conceptual roadmap wich helps me to select the right components as well as a step by step instruction to create all deployments needed.
Could someone help me ?
Could Oracle provide such roadmap (I suspece it would be usefull for many JDev users) ?
Tks
Tullio

Broadly the steps are
1. Create a JNLP file which describes
a) the list of jar files required
b) specify main entry point in the application
c) specify the security permissions required to run
The JCLient WebStart wizard creates a jnlp file to
perform the above.
a) The jar files required to run the JClient app includes
the BC4J runtime jars, JDBC jars, XML Parser jar etc.,
and Project specific jar (client and middle tier). All
these jar files are listed in the resources section
of local.jsp and localmt.jsp
<resources>
     <jar href="client.jar" />
     <jar href="mymt.zip" />
b) the main entry point is specified in local.jsp
<application-desc main-class="mypackage2.Panel1"/>
c) security permission should be requested in local.jsp
and localmt.jsp. The <security> tag should be child
element of <jnlp> tag
     <security><all-permissions/></security>
2) Sign the jar files
Since we request all permission in the jnlp we should also
sign the jar files that we use in the JClient application.
This includes JClient Project specific jar files, BC4J
Project specific jar files and then the BC4J runtime libraries.
Since the BC4J runtime jars and other dependent jar files can
be used in more than one client project they could be signed
once and can be reused.
BC4J\bin\create_jclient_ear.bat sign performs this step.
To archive Project specific class and sign them, JClient Wizard
creates an Ant script and adds it to your project. The file ctbuild.xml
includes targets to and sign the classes in the JClient project.
It also archives the BC4J Project which the JClient project is
dependent on.
3) Deploy the webstart application so that it can be accessed
by the end user.
a) deploy BC4J runtime and dependent jars to your web server.
For ease of deployment to OC4J, JClient wizard adds a ear
deployment profile to the project
b) deploy project jar files using the client deployment war
profile added to the project

    I deployed the same EJB on WLS 6.1+sp3 and WLS 7.0.
    These both work. Looks like there is some problem with WLS6.0+sp2. I have opened

  • Deploying JClient App using Java Webstart

    I've got a BC4J/JClient app that I'm ready to deploy. I read the May 2004 white paper "Deploying Oracle ADF JClient Applications with Java Web Start" by Frank Nimphius. In the white paper it says that you must sign the jar files in order for the webstart deployment to the client to succeed. Since this will be an intranet only application, my plan is to use the Oracle Certificate Authority to generate my trusted certificate chain for code signing. I've figured out how to generate code signing certificates using OCA and I've signed code in the past using Sun's keytool utility. However, when I use keytool to generate my certificate request(CSR) and use OCA to approve it, I can't import it back into the keystore. I am assuming that I need to include the "-provider" switch on the "-import" command for keytool. If I'm correct, does anyone know what the provider is for OCA?
    I also thought about not using keytool and generating a new CSR using Oracle Wallet Manager. I'm guessing that wallet mgr should already know about the OCA certificate formats. Since a wallet file is just a PKCS#12 keystore, I'm assuming that the jarsigner utility shouldn't have any problems using it as a code signing certificate store. My problem with wallet mgr is that I can only find it on the machine that has 10gAS installed on it. Is there any way I can install just the wallet mgr on another PC?
    Thanks,

  • Start jclient app on 9ias rel2

    I have developed and deployed (from JDeveloper 9031 to local DCM) a jclient application with bc4j bindings on swing components (such as the demo at
    http://technet.oracle.com/sample_code/products/jdev/jclient/jclient_binding_demo.html)
    The deployment looked ok, can't start the app though. I've been trying some URLs such as:
    http://host.dommain.suffix:7777/j2ee/appname
    http://host.dommain.suffix:7777/j2ee/appname/index.html
    I would very much appreciate some help.

    Gabriela,
    A JClient application is different from a Web application, the problem is in the way you are trying to access your app.
    Typicaly a JClient app is deployed to a local machine and run be typing:
    java mypackge.myclassIf you appliaction is deployed properly with all needed library in you classpath the above should work fine.
    Good luck

  • Error auto-deploying a Web App (.WAR file)

    Hello,
    Weblogic 6.1 throws a FileNotFoundException about 10% of the time for me when
    auto-deploying a Web app. Has anyone else run into this? I searched the newsgroups
    but didn't come up with anything, so I thought I'd start here.
    My build/deploy cycle is managed by an Ant build file that creates a WAR file
    of my web application and then drops it into $WL_HOME/config/mydomain/applications.
    Occasionally when I do this, I get the error shown below. Originally I was building
    the WAR file right in the ../applications directory, so I thought that might be
    an issue. So, I started building the WAR file in a staging directory and copying
    it into ../applications. No luck. Next, I tried deleting the original WAR file
    from ../applications, and THEN copying the new one over from the staging directory.
    Still fails occasionally.
    Let's see. This is Weblogic 6.1 on Win2K. The only other thing is that my dev/build/staging
    environment is on a network share, and it's from there that I'm copying the WAR
    file to my local machine (where WL is running).
    If someone has seen and/or knows what is up with this, great. If not, it's not
    a show-stopper.
    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    David

    This is a problem with 6.1 SP2 also -- a very annoying error. Without auto deploy

  • Using powershell to deploy provider-hosted app and specify remote Url instead of using appinv.aspx page

    Hello all,
    Could you possibly help me with provider-hosted app development/deployment process.
    We developed SharePoint provider-hosted app that works just fine in development environment. Now we need to automate it's installation in test environment via powershell.
    In AppManifest.xml that we are deploying we have key instead of explicit URL:
    <App xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/2012/app/manifest" Name="ShowAllRoomsApp" ProductID="{922a18aa-5592-b59a-4da9-4791baef02e7}" Version="1.0.0.0"
    SharePointMinVersion="15.0.0.0">
      <Properties>
        <Title>SomeTitle</Title>
        <StartPage>~remoteAppUrl/Pages/Default.aspx?{StandardTokens}</StartPage>
    If we use as
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj655398.aspx recommends, we cannot specify Redirect Url as we can do this on
    /_layouts/appinv.aspx
    So now it seems like the only way to deploy this kind of solution is using appinv.aspx page.Or must we apply this URL in AppManifest on developing stage in Visual Studio?
    What did I miss?
    P. S. Even if I use /_layouts/appinv.aspx after powershell commandlets, I get error.

    hi,
    to deploy provider hosted app you need 2 things
    1. Client ID
    2. Redirect URL.
    What you can do you can generate app from visual studio using clientID and URL from developer enviornment.
    Now a app file is just a simple compressed zip file if you rename it as .zip and extract you will find AppManifest
    inside it. So to create an app for Testing enviornment what you have to to Get the CLient ID (from AppRegNew.aspx) in testing enviornment. Unzip .App file change the AppManifest with testing client ID and URL than again zip file and rename as .app.
    Now if you upload this file it will work.
    To automate this scenerio i have created a simple windows Application in which i Pass the Client ID and StartURl and an App File it unzips the app file make changes to app and again zip it.
    public static class AppPackageHelper
    public const string StartUrlExpression = "{0}?{1}";
    public const string StandardToken = "{StandardTokens}";
    public static string Publish(string appPath, string ClientId,string StartUrl)
    string tempDir = string.Empty;
    string outPutFile = string.Empty;
    try
    string parentDir = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(appPath);
    outPutFile = System.IO.Path.Combine(parentDir, ClientId + "-Winshuttle.app");
    tempDir = System.IO.Path.Combine(parentDir, ClientId.ToString());
    Directory.CreateDirectory(tempDir);
    int lastInd = appPath.LastIndexOf('.');
    string tempPath = string.Empty;
    string targetFilePath = string.Empty;
    string cabPath = System.IO.Path.Combine(tempDir, System.IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(appPath) + ".cab");
    FileInfo fInfo = new FileInfo(appPath) { IsReadOnly = false };
    File.Copy(appPath, cabPath);
    XDocument doc = null;
    string appManifest = string.Empty;
    using (ZipArchive zipArch = ZipFile.Open(cabPath, ZipArchiveMode.Update))
    appManifest = string.Format(@"{0}\AppManifest.xml", Directory.GetParent(cabPath).FullName);
    ZipArchiveEntry manifestEntry = zipArch.Entries.LastOrDefault(e => e.Name.ToLower() == "appmanifest.xml");
    manifestEntry.ExtractToFile(appManifest);
    doc = XDocument.Load(appManifest);
    XNamespace ns = doc.Root.GetDefaultNamespace();
    string defaultUrl = string.Format(StartUrlExpression, StartUrl.TrimEnd('/'), StandardToken);
    doc.Descendants(XName.Get("StartPage", ns.NamespaceName)).First().Value = defaultUrl;
    doc.Descendants(XName.Get("RemoteWebApplication", ns.NamespaceName)).First().Attribute(XName.Get("ClientId")).Value = setupInfo.ClientId.ToString();
    doc.Save(appManifest);
    if (manifestEntry != null)
    manifestEntry.Delete();
    zipArch.CreateEntryFromFile(appManifest, "AppManifest.xml");
    int totEnt = zipArch.Entries.Count;
    for (int e = 0; e < totEnt; e++)
    if (zipArch.Entries[e].Open().Length == 0)
    //if (zipArch.Entries.Count > totEnt && e >= totEnt) break;
    //zipArch.CreateEntry(zipArch.Entries[e].FullName);
    File.Delete(appManifest);
    if (File.Exists(outPutFile))
    File.Delete(outPutFile);
    File.Move(cabPath, outPutFile);
    return outPutFile;
    catch
    throw;
    finally
    if (System.IO.Directory.Exists(tempDir))
    System.IO.Directory.Delete(tempDir, true);
    return outPutFile;
    using System.IO.Compression.FileSystem.dll.
    Also if you want to do it using powershell You need to do the same thing unzip-> changes values-> zip
    So basic thing is You need to ahve only valid AppManifest file which contains 2 valid values Client Id and StartUrl
    if you changes it inside appmanifest manuall than it will also work. Using above code you can create a console Application to do it. You can use powershell it just that i dont know how to zip unzip in powershell but i am pretty sure you can easily find it
    on searching.

    Hi Harminder,
    This happens because an app has already been deployed and you are deploying it again using the same version.

    Open the AppManifest.xml file and change the version.

    I have created a web application and have a jsp host.
    I have 2 questions:
    1-How do I deploy to the host. please explain. is this host a 3rd party? if so, ask them.
    if the host is tomcat running on a machine that you have control of, create a WAR file and put it in the /webapps directory.
    >
    2-I also want to add a tomcat realm and have been
    told to edit the server.xml file and web.xml file you should not edit the server.xml. just put a WAR file in the /webapps directory. no need to edit server.xml.
    web.xml is part of the standard web app deployment. your app should have one, and it needs to be in the WEB-INF directory.
    are these found on the host??
    please offer a confused guy some helpYou should read "My First Web App" on the Tomcat page.

  • Deploying Existing Web App With New JWS

    Hi all,
    I've been banging my head against a brick wall for a few days on this, but I'm sure it must be something trivial. Hopefully someone here will have some advice...
    In a nutshell, I'm working on an existing web application, running on Weblogic 8.1, in a clustered environment. I've added a new JWS web service which is largely standalone, but it uses controls from elsewhere in the application.
    Locally, on my development box, it works perfectly - I can run it from Weblogic Workshop, and see the handy test form to run the web service, as well as seeing the WSDL by pointing my browser at http://localhost:7001/app/path/Service.jws?WSDL
    However, I've now built the EAR for the whole application, and deployed it to our test environment (clustered - a mirror (hopefully!) of the production environment).
    When I go to http://test-box:7002/app/path/Service.jws?WSDL I see a nasty-looking error page that looks like:
    WebService ERROR
    Error:
    null
    Stack Trace:
    null
    When I try the same URL without the ?WSDL on the end (so just http://test-box:7002/app/path/Service.jws), I see the nice Weblogic Web Service page, showing that it knows there's something there, but it has no content, just the 'Overview' tab, followed by:
    Public Information
    about Service.jws Web Service
    and that's it - locally I see the same thing, but with options for viewing the WSDL and testing the service.
    I'm confident that the URL is correct, because if I put rubbish in, I get a different error message.
    Reading around, I've found lots of resources for 'how to deploy a web service to a production environment' for Weblogic 7, but much less for 8.1. I've seen references to jwsCompile, for example, which I think is specific to 7, because I can't find any references to it in the 8.1 docs, but perhaps that's wrong?
    I'm pretty sure there's a configuration setting I'm missing, or a step in the deployment, but I'm stuck as to what it is!
    Any advice gratefully received.
    Edit: I should have mentioned that there are two other JWS's in the same app, both of which have the same symptoms as my new one (they've been there for a while, but are unused).

    My gut reaction is that there might be an issue with the frontend settings not set up correctly, see 9.2 docs in lieu of 8.1 docs:
    http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs92/webserv/setenv.html#wp220521
    You should also open a support case as they could probably identify your issue quickly.

  • Issue after deployment of ADF App into Standalone server.

    Hi
    I was able to run my ADF App from Integrated server, but after deploying the same APP in standalone server and when we access the Page.
    I am getting the following error of " AM Definition not Found in the log". the exact log is below. Things are working fine in integrated but breaks in standalone.

    Is it have to do with the Deployment profile ? or any Data Control Issue ?

    Thanks Guys,
    You won't believe if I say the issue because of a minute error.
    for some reason the AMImpl.xml and its class files were getting created in different directory where as the DataControl was referencing the different directory, when I changed the proper directory for classes files to generate things started to work fine.
    As long as the creating the deployment profile, I think I did right. So all is fine at my end.. thanks for your links, it was really helpful though.

  • Deployment of Flex app to web and app server

    Hi
    I'm working on putting a Flex front-end on an existing J2EE
    app which gets deployed as an ear file. The architecture consists
    of web server, app server and database server. Is the following
    approach to deployment possible / recommended?
    My Flex app will be deployed to the web server. The J2EE ear
    file will be deployed to the app server (Weblogic). BlazeDS will be
    bundled within the ear file as a war file. Remote Objects will be
    configured in my BlazeDS configuration files to enable me to access
    the code in my J2EE app. In the compiler options of my Flex app,
    I'll be setting the server root folder and server root URL to point
    to the BlazeDS war file on my app server.
    At present I'm at the stage where I can run my Flex app
    directly from Flex builder on my development PC and it's able to
    connect tto the J2EE app, which is running on the app server
    (Weblogic) also on my development PC. I can't find documentation
    explaining how to extend this to work on a multi-tier architecture.
    Thanks
    David

    Hi Jerry,
    I agree with Nikhil, I think you have posted partial ULS log, we could not find effective errors for the issue.
    For Provider Hosted app in SharePoint server on-premise,
    the TokenHelper class will try to access your Azure Security Principle by default.
    Did you have a valid Azure account?
    If not, the issue may be caused that you don't have a valid account, to resolve this issue, you can use
    a valid Azure account or not going to use Azure Platform for hosting the app as the article
    below.

  • BC4J Application Module Pooling for JClient App

    Helo,
    i wonder why all documentation about bc4j application module pooling available is for Web app ? (jsp) . I'm creating swing JClient app and i need some doc about how the application module pooling works in this kind of application.
    anybody know where can i get those docs ?
    Need help and Thank you,
    Ricky H.P.

    Connection pooling can be achieved when a JVM instance manages the pool, in 3tiers the Java App. Server has that task.
    If you are 2tiers that means that you are communicating with the database through JDBC.
    When a user launches your JClient app in fact he lauches his own JVM instance so I don't how he could share a pool with other users.
    In your case you have at most 2 open transactions per user.
    You can achieve that by sharing a same binding context with n forms composed of m panels.
    Let's say:
    1 main form
    connection 1: forms a,b,c
    connection 2: forms x,y,z
    In your main form your open your 2 connections and share them.
    You can achieve that by:
    1) in our main form, initialize 2 binding containers
    Example of one:
    DCBindingContainer bc1 = this.createBindingContainer("package name","model name");
    private DCBindingContainer createBindingContainer(String packageName, String panelModelName)
    StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer(packageName);
    sb.append(ViewConstants.STRING_DOT);
    sb.append(panelModelName);
    DCBindingContainerDef bcdef = DCBindingContainerDef.findDefObject(sb.toString()); //NOTE THE NAME.
    if (bcdef == null)
    throw new JboException("System error, "+getClass().getName()+".createBindingContainer, DCBindingContainerDef: "+sb.toString()+" not found");
    DCBindingContainer bc = bcdef.createBindingContainer(panelBinding.getBindingContext());
    bc.setName(panelModelName);
    panelBinding.getBindingContext().put(panelModelName, bc);
    return bc;
    2) Before that the jbInit method gets called in the called form, set the binding context:
    form1 = new Form1(...);
    form1.setBindingContainer(bc1) ;
    Example of methods in form 1 and form 2:
    public void setBindingContainer(DCBindingContainer ctr)
    this.panelBinding = (JUPanelBinding)ctr;
    setBindingContext(ctr.getBindingContext());
    public void setBindingContext(BindingContext bindCtx)
    if (panelBinding.getPanel() == null)
    panelBinding = panelBinding.setup(bindCtx, this);
    registerProjectGlobalVariables(bindCtx);
    panelBinding.refreshControl();
    try
    System.out.println("Form setBindingContext calling jbInit");
    jbInit();
    panelBinding.refreshControl();
    // FL added
    isBindingContextSet = true;
    System.out.println("Form isBindingContextSet true");
    catch(Exception ex)
    System.out.println("Form setBindingContext exception caught");
    panelBinding.reportException(ex);
