Howto remove google search as default on address line

Firefox defaults to google when typing a search query on the address lines. How can I remove google and replace it with Ixquick. I removed google from the manage search engine list, but it still works on the address line.

Change search engine in address/location/awesome bar:
you must modify[http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keyword.URL keyword.url] in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config]
type in the address bar '''about:config'''
then press the button''' i'll be careful i promise'''
then type in the bar '''keyword.url'''
then '''right-click''' on it, select '''modify''', type https://ixquick.com/ (for ixquick), click '''OK''',
exit firefox and restart-it.

  • Removing Google Search History

    Hello.
I use Google as my home page on Safari, and usually use it to direct my browser to where I would like to go. I have been a fan of Google remembering things that I've typed into my search bar, so that I only need to type a couple letters and I can select from the list.
However, I let my little brother use my computer for a bit, and he proceeded to type every pokemon's name he could remember into my google search bar, and proceed to other pages from there. Now, my google auto-suggest continues to suggest pokemon names whenever I type into it.
Is there any way that I can make Google forget things from the pull-down menu? I don't mind resetting all of it, if that's what has to be done.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Go back to your Google Home Page. In the upper right select "web history". If you are not logged in, the next screen will let you do that. In the Web History page you'll find options about history, including removal of some or all of the entries. Proceed from there.

  • How do I get google search in my Safari address bar?

I have a MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.  Apple store just reloaded the 10.7.  Everything works except that the google search is no longer in the Safari address bar.  How to I get that back?  Thanks.

Safari preferences, General icon, select preferred search engine from dropdown menu. Or do you mean the Search Field? If so, it's not used anymore. Use the URL field to search.

  • I used to be able to type my search string in the Address Line and Google sdearch produced results. Aftrer my last firefox update, it turned into BING. I HATE Bing. I want Google back. How do I change this back to google or other search engine????

(The details are in the question already)

    Hi suseadoodle,
Sites like Bing, Yahoo, MSN, etc have been known to do things like this. Luckily it is an easy fix. Just take a look at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Location%20bar%20search?s=address+bar&r=1&as=s#w_changing-the-internet-keyword-service this Knowledge Base article on keyword search].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Missing first letters in address line and google box

Hi all, strange issue, lets say I wake the PB from screensaver or I bring the window to the front, click on the google search or in the address line, I find myself having to type wwww for www, in order to register just 3 w's, confusing I know but tried to make it simple, for google search it is ignoring my first key press as well, very annoying, this issue is appearing all the time, any ideas?

This is a shot in the dark, but is your computer doing anything CPU intensive in the Activity Monitor (/Applications/Utilities)? If it is, you might want to quit that offending process if possible.
My reason for saying this is because if your computer is crunching away some task and you tell it to switch to something you want to do, it might take a minute to say "Hey! The user wants our attention in this application and he's already typing..." so the keyboard buffer tries to catch up and doesn't. Unlikely, but possible, I guess.

  • Untrusted connection Error when using google search field in top line. Ok with other search engines

When opening www.google.dk and searching from the page, everything is ok
When using Google search engine in the address line search bar the error is present
When changing to Yahoo, bing or another search engine in the search bar, the error is not present
    So, the error
"www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided.
    (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)"
is only present when using google search engine in the search bar
Have tried to delete the files cert8.db and key3.db with no success
Read about firewall settings, but Bullguard firewall was not covered

In your "More system details" it says your address bar search provider is Babylon, not Google. Perhaps that's the problem? Or are you using a shortcut to force the address bar search to Google?
This add-on will reset your address bar search to Google: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/
That might not stick if you have an add-on which reverts the setting. You can disable nonessential and unrecognized extensions here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Also, you might need to edit or delete your user.js file to prevent your settings from being overridden at the next startup. This article has info on that: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • Can no longer enter data in the address bar {url Bar}, it correctly follows data from google search bar. It was a 1 month old installation so not a lot of complications

I was not adding anything to Firefox. I Refused tool bars embedded in several application installs on this new computer. Was working fine. Then had a problem with Google search, restored default values and re-tooled Firefox. At this point all worked fine. Then my url, address bar changed color to the same color as the program shell, a grey brown as opposed to the white it was before. With the change in color it no longer allows me to change the data showing in the bar. I can not delete or add data. I used to add a url and navigate to the domain. Now I can not

    Greetings,
TY for the reply, the information was enlightening to be sure. I never knew safe mode was an option with Firefox. I have so many tasks running that I didn't want to shut things down. What I did is turn off some of the last plug-ins I installed. That did not fix the problem at least in the first look. What happened next was very interesting none the less. I had a moment of mouse spastic wrist syndrome and accidentally moved a tab in such a way that it opened in a new window. The URL bar was white and editable. So I moved all my tabs to the new window and everything works as it should. I have restarted Firefox this morning and it came back with the bar editable and I am speechless to understand what I may have done to correct the problem if anything ??

  • When I do a Google Search a very irritating Ebay banner asking me to Compare on Ebay, in multiple, pops up before my search results. The banners interferes with me accessing my google information. How do I get rid of this Ebay intrusion?

The rows of repeat banners take up the whole screen and force me to scroll down to read the info I really want - my Google search results.

Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.
    '''''Address Bar Search'''''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''keyword''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''keyword.URL''' and choose Reset. This should restore Google as the default for address bar search.
    Does that work?
    '''''Search Box'''''
Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
    Do either of those work?
There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

  • Can't get the Google search box in toolbar

I've been working on getting my new iMac 27" with Mountain Lion functional, and now I've run into a problem I don't seem to find others are having -- I can't get the Google search box into the toolbar. It just won't go there. I've dragged the thing from the View>Customize Toolbar, and I've also tried dragging the whole toolbar, and nothing sticks. I get a little green plus symbol, as if it's adding it to the toolbar, release, and then...nothing. As much as I like Duck Duck Go, there are still things I need the old Goog for, and I'm bewildered by why this won't stick. There don't seem to be any actual settings for it either, just the drag and drop.
This whole setup has been beyond frustrating. I wish I'd never upgraded.

    Safari 6
Apple combined Google search bar with URL address bar in Safari 6.
Apple calls it Smart Search Field.
There is no more a separate search field. You enter the Google search in the unified address bar.
    Best.

  • I want google as my search engine, not Bing. How do I make Google the default search engine in the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar; or, how do I remove the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar so that "Google" can be default?

I want google as my search engine, not Bing. But no matter what I do in "Manage Search Engines," Firefox seems to reset to "Search the Web," which uses Bing.
How do I make Google the default search engine in the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar; or, how do I remove the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar so that "Google" can be default? When I move "Search the Web" down and "Google" up, the search bar resets every time Firefox reloads.

Sometime Bing is not located in the Add/Remove programs section of the control panel.
6 Easy Steps to Remove Bing from Mozilla Firefox:
    1. Click on the "inverted triangle" located to the right of the orange Bing icon.
    2. Select the option "Manage Search Engines...". (A pop-up window will appear titled "Manage Search Engine List.)
    3. Select "Bing".
    4. Click the "Remove" button.
    5. Select the desired search engine from the list.
    6. Click "OK"
    All Done.... :-)
    Happy Searching...

  • How can i replace the default search engine (Yahoo...) with Google, when I write a word at the address line?

I recently installed FireFox on my new pc. Whenever I type a word, for example a name of a website, I get the yahoo search resault, instead of what I had before - to enter directly to the site, or in some cases - get the Google search results.
I would like to be able to type the website name (for example - "filefactory"), and become directed to the site itself, as it was with the previous version that I had in my former pc.
    Thanks...

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
You can modify the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the <b>about:config</b> page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".
    * Google "I'm Feeling Lucky": http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
