Howto restore pristine IE after failed SUN 1.4.1_03 uninstall?

Or: How do I manually complete the 1.4.1_03 uninstall?
I was troubleshooting a problem with SUN's 1.4.1_03 JVM and so I was
switching between 1.4.1_02 and 1.4.1_03, uninstalling and
installing... Somewhere along the line, uninstall failed. Now my IE is
in a weird state. How do I restore it to its pristine condition?
If I install 1.4.1_03, all seems to work fine, and there is a
"Tools/Internet Options.../Java(Sun)/Use Java 2 v1.4.1_03 for <applet>
(requires restart)" checkbox that correctly switches between SUN's
1.4.1_03 and Microsofts JVMs.
But if I uninstall 1.4.1_03 that checkbox is still there! And
regardless of its setting, no java pages work any longer. Installing
and then uninstalling 1.4.1_03 no longer removes the checkbox.
If I go to a page using Java, I get a "Install on Demand (Other)"
dialog box prompting me to download and install "Java virtual
machine". If I hit download, I get to a page that points me to Windows
Update, and Windows Update says I don't need any updates. I've tried
downloading ie6setup.exe and it runs quickly without fixing the
problem.
Also, installing 1.4.1_02 doesn't do anything either. Even with
1.4.1_02 installed, the 1.4.1_03 checkbox is still there (note: the
_03 checkbox is there) and no java pages work at all, behaving
exactly like no SUN JVM installed at all.
I do really have other problems with 1.4.1_03, (see http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=421&thread=411155&tstart=0&trange=15) and need to restore IE
to its pristine state, so I can switch between JVM versions properly.
Is there any alternative to completely reinstalling XP? I sure hope so!
Any ideas?
Peter

Today, I tried logging out as my own user, logging back in as administrator, and then uninstalling+reinstalling. Apparently that cleaned up the registry because now it works fine again.

I cant restore my iphone 3G to 3.1.3 firmware. It's like the phone is stuck in recovery mode.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks in advance

You're in a mess because you installed two pieces of software that have not been released yet and are still in beta. If you were a registered developer(I'm guessing you're not) you'd have access to the developer forums to post your question. You're only solution is to wait until the software is OFFICIALLY released or use google & hope you don't end up making your phone permanently inoperable.

  • Restoring from TM after failed 10.5.7 update

The 10.5.7 update completely FUBARed my laptop; it is now in a boot loop worthy of a lousy Vista machine. I have full Time Machine back-ups. I need to restore back to 10.5.6 using TM. My problem is that all the instructions tell me to start from the OS disc, choose "Utilities" from the welcome screen after the language choice, and then see the choice "restore from backup" from that menu. I do not have "restore from backup" as a choice. I have "startup disk, reset password, disk utility, terminal, system profiler, and network utility". I can see the external TM drive from "disk utility", but need alternate instructions as to how to correctly start this process given my menu choices.

Do a clean install first, after the installation the setup starts and thén the options to retrieve users settings etc will be presented (provided that indeed you install 10.5.x).
No. There's no reason to install OSX. All you need the Leopard disk for is to use the installer that's on it.

  • Can't restore my iphone after failed update.

I just updated my Iphone 4 to IOS 7.0.3, it worked for a few hours then put itself into recovery mode. I tried to restore it through iTunes, and it says that I have to restore and update my iPhone. I did that and now it is saying that it cannot restore my iphone due to error 21. I've changed USB ports, and even tried restoring it on another computer. But it is still stuck in recovery mode. And can't do anything, my Itunes is up to date, so is my computer. And i have no firewall up at the moment to stop it. How do i fix this?

  • HT201412 I cannot restore my IOS after failed update of IOS 5.1.1 on my IPAD

    Hello:
Last evening I allowed an update toy brand new IPAD2 16GB. It seemed to be going OK until it just stopped and showed the picture on the screen of the USB plug and the ITunes button. I try several times to restore the IOS, as that is what the on-screen directions told me to do, but to no avail. It does not get finished. It tells me that an error has occured and again shows the USB and ITunes button picture on-screen. I have tried all of the sequences of stopping and restarting and resetting as per the manual instructions. Can someone help?
    Ed

    Thank you herelstom:
But I read the manual last night and tried that. No go. Also, although I plugged it in to recharge, I don't know if it is fully recharged or not. Still only see the picture of the usb plug and iTunes button.

  • Cannot restore my iPad2 after failing to install ios5, please help!

Using PC with Windows Vista and already upgraded iTunes to version 10, but when I tried to upgrade my iPad2 to ios5, I keep getting error msg 6. I have no issues with the iTunes store, I turned off the Firewall but now I cannot even use the iPad as it's stuck in recovery mode with the screen showing a usb cable and iTunes logo.
    Please help!

Take a look at this article. It deals with an incomplete iOS update download on an iPhone but there might be important info for your problem too.

  • HT1688 restoring iphone after failed update

I recently tried to the latest update and then it said i needed to connect it to a computer so i did so and it gets so far and then gives me an error and then disconnects my phone... i then did the hard reset aka home button and on/off button and its frozen on the apple symbol. i couldnt get it to come back up that i needed to connect to itunes. after numerous searches online i got that portion to work but then it would not register on my computer after i got that to work once again it still gave me the error. i took my phone to the local att store and they were unable to help me as well and were saying i was going to have to pay apple $200 for a new iphone! HOW IS THIS MY FAULT?! i followed the normal update and they are saying my hardware is fried! i do not care about gettin my items back bc obviously it was backed up with my appleid but seriously i had to get a whole new phone bc my phone will not work!

Try DFU Mode Restore. If this fails try, DFU Mode Restore on different computer. If this fails ATT could be correct.
DFU Mode Restore of iPhone on computer with iTunes. Here are the steps. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both home and power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release the power button, keep holding the home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually about 20 seconds of holding home button. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. DFU Mode is sometimes difficult to get. So keep trying the steps until you get it. DFU mode is iTunes saying iPhone in Recovery Mode except screen is black, blank.

  • I-tunes does not recognise ipad to restore after failed update to ios 5

i-tunes does not recognise ipad to restore after failed update to ios 5. Connected i-pad to update to new ios 5. Back-upp went fine but update failed and now i-tunes does not recognise the devise and i-pad will not work so I have no known way to restore.

    Copied from that article.....
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
Are you releasing the home button when you see the connect to iTunes screen? Does iTunes start on its own? If it doesn't - start iTunes yourself.
    Also copied from the article.....
    5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:

  • I restored my Iohone after it synced and now all of my pictures are gone ! what can i do to fix this problem???

I restored my Iphone after it synced , everything else is there but my pictures!
what can i do to fix this ??

You should be importing all pics taken with iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, particularly before any update or restore.
If you have failed to do this, then they are likey gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

  • My ipad mini says to connect to itunes, and I try to restore it, but after its done extracting a message comes up saying that device is not found, is there anyway i can fix this? I don't care if i don't get my stuff back

My iPad mini says to connect to iTunes, and I try to restore it, but after its done extracting a message comes up saying that device is not found, is there anyway i can fix this? I don't care if i don't get my stuff back, i just want my iPad restored to its starting settings.

If everything else that you try fails, I would try using another computer. Since you don't care about saving any data, any computer that is running the latest version of iTunes might be able to restore the iPad. You could make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar and they can do it for you.
If that isn't feasible for you, try using a different cable, a different USB port. reboot the computer, and reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Then try again.

  • After installing Sun Studio 11, libfsu.a in Sun Forte  6 is removed.

I have Sun compilers 5.0 and 6.2 on my Sun Solaris 8 Ultra Sparc machine. After installing Sun Studio 11, some library files (e.g., libfsu.a in Sun Forte 6) from the old compilers were removed. What is wrong with my installation?
Note that I install the different versions of compilers in separate directories.

After the 1st failed installation of Sun studio 11,
did you making sure that Sun studio 11 is not exist
on your system before re-install Sun studio 11? The
rule is you can have different Sun studio releases
on the same system, but you can not have the
multiple copy of the same release on the same
system, even though they are in a totally separate
directory. If Sun Studio 11 exist after 1st fail
installation, you need to un-install it first before
    you re-start 2nd installation attemp.
Installation of Sun Studio 11 should not remove files
from older releases, but we know the case it did mess
up package of the older release before.
-NgocNo, after 1st install failed due to insufficient disk space, I did not uninstall Studio 11. After I deleted some user files to free up disk space, I run the install again, specified the same directory for installation, and just select Sun Performance Libraries. The installation seems to finished successfully. Perhaps this is one scenario where old versions can get messed up.

  • Process.conf file not found after installing Sun One Portal Server 6.0

This extract is from the Sun One Portal Server development guide for logging error or logs in log file. This says that to generate the log, entry should be done to enable logging in process.conf file. I could not find any such file after installing Sun One Portal Server 6.0.
    Any help will be appreciated...
Reporting Errors to the Robot Log File
When problems occur, robot application functions should return an appropriate response status code (such as REQ_ABORTED), and they should also log an error inthe error log file.
To use the error-logging functionality, you must include the file log.h in thesdk/robot/include/libcs directory. After you have ensured that log.h exists in the correct place, you can use the cslog_error macro to report errors. The prototype is in the following format:
cslog_error(int n, int loglevel, char* errorMessage)
The first parameter is not currently used (may be used in the future) You can pass
    this as any integer.
The second parameter is the log level. When the log level is less than or equal to the log level setting in the file process.conf, the error message is written in the robot.log.

Since removing the log settings from magnus.conf failed to fix the problem, the log settings are probably not the source of the problem.
Did anything else - e.g. ColdFusion configuration changes - occur at about the same time you changed the log settings?

SELINUX-Targeted Policy disallows restore segment prot after reloc which can be corrected by switching to SELINUX-permissive policy..
this can be achived temporarily by issuing
