HP 1300 won't print anymore after 10.6.8

Just downgraded from 10.5 to 10.6.8... and I just can't get my HP 1300 (usb connected) to print. It shows up, powers and checks normal but no print jobs ever get there. I've made sure I have any latest drivers etc. I've read about backend drivers, reset packages, hp's version that all drivers for this printer are in the 10.6 kit, but nothing works. Any ideas???? TIA

Disconnect all devices from the computer then do the following:
Boot up from your Snow Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose "Disk Utility" from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the "repair disk" button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and repair permissions directly from Disk Utility.
If Disk Utility is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.
Reconnect your printer.  If still not printing try the solutions mentioned below.
What to do when you can't print
Install the gimp drivers.  CLICKY CLICK---> http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • Canon Selphy CP730 won't print anymore

After installing the latest iPhoto (7.0.2) my Canon Selphy CP730 Compact Photo Printer won't print photo's from iPhoto anymore. The light on the printer blinks for a second, goes red and then back to green, while an icon in the Dock shows the CP730 with a red exclamation mark.
The strange thing is that I can print from all my other applications to this device. And with the previous iPhoto there where no problems either. I already reinstalled the drivers for the CP730, without succes.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,

    Michel:
Try deleting the various printing pref files. One would be located in the User/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder. It would look something like this: com.apple.print.Cache.0016cb3791b6.plist (number will be different). Also com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist and any obvious Canon prefs for the printer. There will be a lot of other Canon prefs but look of any that are obviously linked to the printer. You may not fine any, however.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Eclipse IDE won't start anymore after most recent security update

    Hello everybody,
after today's security update the Eclipse IDE won't start anymore on my system, I just receive the following error message:
A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available in order to run Eclipse.
No Java virtual machine was found after searching the following locations: /Applications/eclipse/Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/jre/bin/

    'java' in your current PATH
Java is installed and Eclipse ran smoothly until I upgraded. Other Java programs like Visual Paradigm still work without problems.
Does anybody have an idea what I can do about this? I have already tried repairing permissions, to no avail.
    Best regards,
    Björn
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have narrowed down the problem even more:
Obviously system path variables are not set anymore on my system for UNIX processes that are started in background, whereas starting applications from terminal using the open command ('open Gimp.app' for instance) still works without any problems.
Any ideas where to change this behaviour?

    Since I installed LR2, CS3 won't print any more. I worked already with LR1.4 and LR2beta.
When I give a print command in CS3 I get two warnings: first that I have to install a printer and second that the print command can not be completed because of a Adobe Color Engine problem.
But the "Print one Copy" command does work.
I deleted all the prefslists of CS3, LR2 and even LR1,4. Didn't work.

  • My USB external hard disk won't work anymore after I updated to 10.4.10

As I said in title since it's quite urgent to me. ALL of my files is in my external hard drive. It's format as FAT or FAT32 I can't remember since I use it between mac and PC. More than that IT IS WORKING FINE UNDER PC. Before updating to Mac 10.4.10 I used my hard disk fine till I updated to this version. I plug in my usb port and after a hours it still won't be detected. I can find my hard disk in finder or desktop. I have tried plug my hard disk to other MacBook or Mac Pro but still won't work anymore. However it's working fine under PC or when I started my MacBKPRO as WindowsXP under bootcamp, my hard disk is working fine, too.
I have search this forum and seems someone have got the same problem as I face. I don't know what to do...and I feel so disappointed to Mac.

As Mac OS X has no known viruses in the wild, that leaves you with one of three possibilities.
    1. When connected to the Windows machine, a virus has written over a critical boot block area which allows the drive to become crossplatform. Get the latest Windows virus detection software and make sure the drive is clean of Windows viruses.
    2. The firmware that allows it to communicate driverless has become corrupted on the drive case. Replacing the drive case itself will eliminate that problem, as suggested earlier.
    3. The directory damage is just enough that the boot block itself is damaged. Backup any critical data from the drive onto the Windows machine first, and run Alsoft Disk Warrior 4.0 to repair the directory and see if that works.
The fact that Mac OS X 10.3.9 won't read it basically eliminates this as a 10.4.10 problem. Only a boot block or firmware issue like this could make a drive not readable on one platform, but readable on another.
P.S. please note the nomenclature of Mac, versus MAC on this user tip, as it appears you haven't learned it:

  • HP P1005 won't print anymore?

We have a HP P1005 Laserjet (just out of warranty!) that has suddenly stopped responding to print commands. Ran the HP Diagnostic - which usually resolves any print que issues for us but still won't print! Then tried to STOP/START the print spooler manually using the SERVICES.MSC commands but also fails to print. I've re-booted the pc (running XP SP3) and also re-booted the printer....but still NO GO!! This was working fine yesterday and today....it won't run.
Any suggestions as to what to try next or am I looking at a new printer?

I have experienced a similar problem. I installed a P1005 in April 2009. The locaally attached USB printer ran fine until December. Then, the printer started hanging on print jobs and could not be cleared. I downloaded the new device driver from HP's website.
The  printer works fine when logged into the computer as the Network Administrator. However, when the user log's in without Network Admin privileges, the printer does not work. I had to set the local user up with Network Administrator privileges in order to make the printer work. After I got the printer to work in this fashion, as a test, I removed the Admin privileges from the local user's account profile, and then the local user could not print to the P1005. I had to restore the Network Admin privileges to the local user in order to make the printer work.
This is not an acceptable condition in a network Microsoft Server 2003 Domain environment, as it violates all kinds of security protocols.
How can the device settings be adjusted to allow the local user to use this locally attached USB printer without the need of Network Administrator privileges?

  • Won't boot anymore after nvidia-xconfig

    Hey Guys,
Got a problem with my Arch Linux here, hope you can help.
Today I tried to install the official Nvidia Driver and BumbleBee following along the great Wiki on this topic.
Everything worked just fine and I also could run optirun gfxgear or somemthing like this.
I wanted to switch to the Nvidia Settings in the settings menu and it told me to configure my xconfig and restart x so I typed nvidia-xconfig in the terminal and it gave me an success output.
I restarted my system and now it hangs on the graphical thing I think. It won't boot anymore.
Hope you can help me out.
    Thanks alot
Edit: My Nvidia Card is a Nvidia GT 740M if this matters

No, I have a laptop with 2 graphic cards an intel hd4000 and a nvidia gt 740m.
I ran the Arch Linux installation well until I tried to get the nvidia gt working with bumblebee.
I followed the wiki of the bumblebee topic and it worked well. I wanted to switch into the nvidia settings and it told me my x isnt configured properly and I should type nvidia-xconfig and restart X.
After the restart it won't boot to the graphical interface anymore.
Hope this cleared up the things
Also I dont get any errors but it just wont load..

  • Btrfs: System won't boot anymore after unclean shutdown

    Hi,
I have a problem with my ArchLinux (kernel 3.19.2-1-ARCH).
I have my root partition as BTRFS and no /boot partition.
After an unclean shutdown the system won't boot anymore.
GRUB loads the kernel and the kernel starts but it hangs saying: Mounted /dev/sda3 on real root.
Then, I have to start a Live CD and do:
    btrfsck /dev/sda3
After that the system boots correctly.
I've tried adding fsck to the HOOKS in the mkinitcpio.conf file and in fact it tries to fsck the filesystem (but with BTRFS, fsck.btrfs doesn't work...)
    What can I do?
    Thanks

I'm also having this problem. I tried booting up the netinstall image to debug it, but I can't mount my btrfs volume from there either: mount just hangs. After a while, the kernel goes:
[...] INFO: task mount:612 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
    [...] Not tainted 3.19.2-1-ARCH #1
    [...] "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.
[...] INFO: task btrfs-transacti:636 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
    [...] Not tainted 3.19.2-1-ARCH #1
    [...] "echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.
From this post I guessed that I might just need to wait so that I could defrag the volume once it was mounted, but it's been hanging for over 15min now (the message above continues to come up periodically).
Like the OP in the thread I linked to above, my btrfs volume is inside an LVM volume (which is on dm-crypt). Don't know whether that's relevant.

  • [SOLVED] Cannot print anymore after last reboot

HP Officejet 8100 Pro network printer doesn't print anymore but gives obscure error messages:
/var/log/cups/error_log says "broken pipe", printing dialogue says "can't detect file type", the print dialogue says to the right of the printer "Can't copy stdin to temporary file", and the Document Print Status window gives a message box "There was a problem processing document...". The "diagnose" function offered by the message box leads nowhere (test page cannot be printed either).
Tried to print from web browser, open office and evince.
Any ideas? Did something fundamentally change in the recent Archlinux updates?
Edit: Root partition was full, clearing the package cache to make some room fixed it. ("pacman -Sc")

    Rocky8,
This is a little outside our area of printing, but I'll try and help you the best I can. My question for you is the printer showing up under the USB menu in Parallels. If it's not showing up then you need to determine why the USB connection isn't showing up in your Parallels USB menu.  This could be a couple of issues, but the one that I think might be happening is the version of the USB port your using.  Can you verify that you're not connecting the printer via a USB 3.0 port.  Try plugging into one of your other USB ports to see if the printer will show up in the parallels USB menu.

    Hello pcmtgrl
Which model of the Officejet 8500A series do you have? Typically you can find it inside the printer where you change the ink cartridges. Example: A910g, A910a, etc.
Has anything changed recently since the problem started? Is the printer plugged into a wall outlet or a surge protector? Do you have the latest firmware installed? I also suggest running the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility. Let me know if it finds anything out.

  • HP Officejet 6500 won't print black after power outages

We experienced a series of power outages last night. Now the black won't print at all. The print cartridge is fairly new, about a month old, scarcely used. All the color cartridges will print.
I've tried cleaning the print heads and running the alignment tests, but nothing can produce any black ink. For a pure text page with just black lettering and nothing else, the printer goes through the motions but nothing is printed.
I have a feeling that the power outages tripped it up somehow. Is there a way to undo this?
