HP 15-b109eo Ultrabook sound cuts off suddenly

Hello,
I have week old HP 15-b109eu Ultrabook and when im on skype or on adobe connect the sound cuts out all of sudden. the mic doesnt work either and no matter what i do (take the headset off and put back), see if anything is muted etc nothing changes until i restart the computer. When i look the sound settings both input and output look like no life there and when i click the speaker picture on toolbar skype etc have this square after their names. What could be the problem?

Have you tried the Windows audio FixIt?

Try that and let me know if it helps.

If you look at System Preferences, Hardware, Energy Saver do you have the sleep set very low?  Try moving the sleep setting out to a longer time and see if that helps.

  • Embedded Sounds Cut off Early

This is a repost of a question I oriinally posted here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11321441/embedded-sounds-cut-off-early .
I figure this is one someone who knows the compiler part of Flash intimately will need to answer (if there is a good answer--if not I probably need to file a bug report).
I have a combined Flash Builder/Flash Pro project. Because of the hassles involving in maintaining sound assets on the timeline, my sounds are all embedded into Class files, like:
    [Embed (source="/mp3/Welcome_01_V.mp3", mimeType="audio/mpeg")]
    private static const WELCOME_1:Class;
These files are then referenced by the base Classes for the symbols that need them, embedded for Actionscript on Frame 10 (because the second frame label is on Frame 10 to give space for you to read the first one).
What I'm finding is that a few of these Sounds don't play all the way through, but the SoundChannel dispatches the "soundComplete" event, and its final position matches the Sound's length.
All sounds are converted from wav to mp3 at 44kHz / 16 kbps using dbPowerAmp. I faked out the compiler to avoid a reference to Flex by including a dummy SoundAsset that extends Sound.
I don't know what other steps to take to debug this. Is there a way to figure out whether the problem is on the compile side or on the run side?
    More things I have tried:
Looked at the Size report: The nonworking sounds were smaller in their embedded form than the source mp3
Got rid of my own BitmapAsset and let Flash link in the Flex Framework and do whatever that does (definitely worse)
Dropped the encoding from 44 kHz to 22 kHz (no improvement or worse)
Dropped the bit rate to 8kbps (the lowest dbPowerAmp, the tool I use, supports). This usually helps somewhat, but I still usually use a word or two from the end of the file
Dropped both parameters in the encoding. This helped a few that just dropping the bit rate didn't, but not all files. Plus it sounds tinny.
Note that the file size and length of the Flash file does not seem to be what causes this--I have had 50k+ files that did fine, yet had a problem with files < 20k.
    Thanks!

Have you tried disabling Omnisphere, just for a test, to see if the problem is occurring with just the built-in plug-ins?  Another thing to try, if you haven't already done so go ahead and display the CPU meter.. you to this in the app's Display preference pane. Then double click on the CPU side of the meter in the toolbar. This will open a CPU monitoring window... and you can instantly see how much CPU each plug-in is using... assuming it's a CPU overload that's causing it.
Not sure if this is how you are using it, but if for instance you play something with Patch A and when you switch to Patch B you're either holding sustain or you want the sound to crossover into Patch B so it tails nicely... at this point you have both Patch A and Patch B active at the same time. If both those patches have 2 Omnispheres you actually talking about 4. Maybe this isn't exactly what you're doing, but you get the idea.
Can you stand to have a slightly bugger size?  Maybe try 256. Oh, and definately quit all other apps and perhaps turn off airport.

  • MPEG2-DVD / Sound cut off *urgent*

    Hi everyone
I have a very urgent problem which makes me lose my hair...
We have 190 minutes of 1920x1080 25p footage which we edited in Premiere Pro.
I then proceed to export the files into MPEG2-DVD using 2-pass VBR with 1,65/4,2/6.25 bitrate (according to an online bitrate calculator).
I multiplex the sound into the MPEG-2 file.
When I import the timeline into Encore, it correctly tells me "do not transcode".
BUT the sound cuts off short of the video. It does it for every chapter. I cannot 'extend' or 'pull' the sound to the length of the video.
First chapter is 24:19, sound cuts off at 23:15.
Anyone got an ìdea what I am doing wrong?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Michael

I'm in complete agreement with Jeff here as well - selling PAL discs in the US will sooner or later cause problems.
    Priobably sooner.
In the old days you would not get the player to even load them - it would throw a "no disc" or another error of some description - and even when you did find the odd rare one that would load them, the TV systems would make sure you got a garbled image, or a B&W one. These days a good Universal Player will usually load all types (although again a regular DVD player will most likey still not go for it) but you will still have TV system issues.
The problem is the mains frequency - PAL (Europe) uses 625 lines and 50Hz whereas NTSC uses 525/60, which effectively means PAL runs at 25 frames/second & NTSC at 30 frames/second. The 2 are incompatible. Most PAL players can handle both formats either by outputting NTSC discs as PAL-60 or even genuine "on the fly" conversions to 525/60 NTSC.  The process is not straightforward either - the player is handling scaling, temporal conversion and object motion analysis all at once (Hence why most PAL setups output NTSC as PAL-60 instead of pure 525/60 NTSC) and additionally the audio speed must be adjusted (remember DVD is a multiplexed set of VOB files, not separate streams) to conform to the different display rate - which may also prevent the use of a digital connection!
This type of conversion is much, much less compatible the other way around. Most NTSC players still cannot play PAL discs (although as I have said a Universal BluRay player may do this) and only a very small number can convert 625/50 PAL to 525/60 NTSC.
Let us now talk about MPEG audio & why it is not recommended to use it. This gets complex.....
MPEG audio is a multichannel format using perceptual encoding at 16-bit 48KHz. MPEG-1 Layer II and MPEG-2 BC (backwards compatible) are the only allowed forms and the MPEG-2 that is allowed - BC - is a matrixed format, not discrete, in surround use. Use of this type (MPEG audio) was only ever optional in NTSC, never mandatory (so that is one big problem) and the other big problem is that MPEG-2 audio is only allowed in BC mode. Why is this evil? Take a seat & let me try to go through it.
Because MPEG-2 audio decoders were not available at the time of DVD introduction, MPEG-1 was the only decoder available so that was what got used. As a result, the only permissib;le type of MPEG-2 allowed is BC, which is a matrixed stream type (the 5 main channels are matrixed into Lt/Rt stereo streams) and then encoded in the normal MPEG-1 Layer II format for DVD. The advantage to this is that a multichannel stream can be phase matrix encoded so that it will also play on a stereo system. MPEG provides pre-determined matrixing formulas depending on the intended audience - one is a conventional stereo signal, another is designed to deliver a Dolby Surround compatible (*not* Dolby Digital - that is something very different) system that re-creates the centre channel fronm the left/right channels in addition to a single rear (or surround) channel (Nerdy Note - this is actually a development of the old SQ Quadraphonic matrixing system, set up for LCRS instead of L-R-Ls-Rs). Additional discrete channel information, plus the LFE channel, is encoded in an extension stream so that an MPEG-2 decoder (not MPEG-2 Audio) can recreate 6 separate signals. Because of the necessity to be backwards compatible with MPEG-1 decoders the centre & surround channels that are matrixed into the 2 MPEG-1 channels (left & right) are duplicated in the extension stream. This allows the MPEG-2 decoder to subtract those signals from the matrixed signals, leaving the original Left & Right channels. All this adds an overhead of approximately 32kbps, making it rather inefficient.. The original 2-channel MPEG-1 encoding process was not developed with matrixed audio in mind and therefore may actually remove surround detail. Also, the process tends to expose coding artefacts as well so coupled with the whole shebang only ever being optional in NTSC 525/60 systems means that to use this as your solitary stream type is actually out of spec for 525/60 regions & players may well take one look at the disc & output...................in short, just a picture. And if that picture is 625/50 PAL, quite possibly not that either.
    Audio support in DVD.
MPEG-2 audio is basically not supported except in BC moide, which hands everything over to MPEG-1 decoders. This is not good. It is not efficient, it can be riddled with artefacts & it is not supported by fiat in NTSC regions, only optionally. If it is your sole stream you will run into trouble sooner or later.
I hope this helps, and I think I will go away & write a little article about this as it keeps cropping up every so often..

  • Sound cut off at beginning of track

When clicking on "Play Movie" button in menu, the transition takes place, then the DVD cuts to the movie. However, the first second or two of the sound is not heard. This seems to simulate properly, but when the disc is burned and played in a real DVD player, the cutoff of the sound takes place.
Is there any way to tell DVD Studio Pro to wait for a defined time after executing the transition, before beginning the play of the audio and video tracks?

You sure it's not the audio playback system you're using? I our studio the big system has some sort of buffer. No matter what I do the first couple of seconds of audio are cut off. That's the only place it happens, out of thousands of DVDs played.
You can sneak a piece of black video with silence and place it in front of your primary video right in the track. Pretty foolproof.

  • Erratic sound cut-offs with rDAC (external DAC) on USB

I use an external digital to analog converter named "Arcam rDAC" for playing my iTunes and DVD playback sounds from my Mac Mini to a High-End Amplifier in my living room. The DAC is connected to the USB port and installs itself as a external soundcard. If I'm playing - lets say music with iTunes - it erratically cut-off the sound playback from zero to tree times a day. The only solution to get the sound back is to unplug the USB cable and plug it in again.
I'm not sure if this is really a problem with my Mac mini or rather a software problem with OS 10.6.5.
    Does anybody have an idea?
(By the way: All volume outputs are set to 100%, EQ, sound correction and so on in iTunes are off and Audio-MIDI-Setup is at 44100,0Hz/24Bit.)

OK, there's only a couple more things for you to try on your own before involving Arcam and Apple. First thing you can try is different USB ports on the mini. I'm not sure about your mini, but it has been true of past versions that not all USB ports are created equal. Some ports have been "native" ports driven directly by the HCI whereas others have been based on a hub, meaning a hub IC internal to the mini and soldered onto the motherboard. So the rDAC may work better from some ports than others.
The other things I would ask is, what length USB cable is in use? Is it a conventional length, like 1.8m or so? Or is it a long cable run? If the cable is inordinately long, you can try shortening it to see if that helps. If it does, then you are left to try and move the mini and rDAC closer together, or else perhaps use shorter sections of cable and then hubs in between to link the mini and the rDAC.

  • Sounds cut off upon patch change

I have a 2009 MBP 2.4ghz dual core, 4GB RAM. Using 2 controllers plugged in via USB. 1/8" audio line from computer to PA.
I just upgraded to Maountain Lion and MS3. I also am using sounds from Omnisphere 1.5.
I have created a Concert. Within this concert I have a set for each song.
The most channel strips that I have for a patch is 3, with one sound assigned to one controller and 2 layered onto another.
These sounds are chosen from either the MS3 sound list (some from the legacy list) or from Omnisphere. The most sounds I have layered in Omnisphere is 2. I am not using any sequencing or arpeggiators.
I have programmed a DP2 pedal to change from one patch to the next.
    Now to the troubles.
When I change patches, the sound from the previous patch gets cut off. This does not happen with all of the patches though. It seems to happen randomly. Or at least it appears that way. Not sure if there are certain sounds that are buggy this way.
The other problem I have is when I change patches, sometimes I am getting a delay before the sounds become available. Sometimes when the sounds become available they will break up when I play them.
When I only use the Omnisphere plug-in as my interface and only use Omnisphere sounds I do not get this problem.
I don't think that I am really doing much with the amount of sounds and layering that is possible.
Could it be that my computer is not up to snuff to run the software? Is it the connectivity?
I have a gig in a couple weeks and would like to figure this out as soon as possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Sound cut off

while listening to my ipod mini the music suddenly cut off. at first i thought it was the ear phones so i check with another pair to no avail. i have also noticed it seems to be playing the songs but each second takes 5 maybe its a faulty connection between the earphones and the ipod?? i have alrdy restored it to factory setting hoping it would fix the problem but it hasnt im going to take my ipod back to the dealer i got it tomo but would be nice if someone can help me with my problem

  • Mp3 sound Cut-Off

Im using a text to speech tool to create mp3 files and then
importing them to Presenter. After importing the files and
publishing I found the first syllable of the speech was cut off on
each slide. This was not the case when I listened to the audio file
on windows media player, in the audio editor or using the sync
audio function. I inserted a second of silence at the beginning of
each slide but the problem still existed occurring after the 1
    second pause.
I have had additional problems trying to import mp3 files of
higher quality…files I was able to import using Presenter
6.0. I get a message saying the files may be corrupted and I can
    not import them.
I’ve converted all my presentations to 7.0. Will I be
able to uninstall 7.0 and reinstall 6.0 access them?

    A similar post is here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=63&catid=571&threadid =1373170.
Although, I haven't faced this kind of issue but a weird
workaround can be to convert your mp3 file into wav and then import
into Presenter. Presenter would publish mp3 according to the
quality settings chosen, so the publish size won't change by
    much.

  • Sound cutting off randomly?

I have a Samsung LCD TV and sometimes when I am using AppleTV the sound just shuts off (usually once or twice each use). Has anyone encountered this problem?

Cabling/connections would be the first thought.
From what you say I don't think you have a surround system but I was getting odd cutouts of sound some months ago playing back via optical to my AV amp (music getting processed as Dolby surround), and i tracked it down to a loose speaker connection shorting with it's counterpart, and the amp cutting out for safety.

  • Sound cuts off after 1 minute. Wireless HPs Model: TMR-RF985R

I replied to a topic regarding the same issue, but will make a thread about it as the problem is urgent (I need noise cancelling sound for a symptom I suffer from) and of course I use these headphones almost 24/7 as my work/lifestyle relies heavily on them.
THey were working fine for roughly ~ 2 years until recently when I started noticing that they shut off after some use. I used to think it was the batteries, but I charge them for 15 hours every night just as I always have, so that can't be it. Everything is plugged in. I've lurked over threads discussing the same problems all over the net and applied all their inputs to no avail.
Any help is MUCH appreciated - any help that would actually work! My gut says these headphones are on their way to the grave.
    Thanks in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Argh now I'm ransacking the entire internet to figure out how I'm supposed to get to the batteries on these headphones. Any help would be appreciated... (I know it's quite a newbish question, but what the he11, given the stealth on this thing!)
UPDATE: I guess there is no option to replace the batteries without sending it over to the manufacturer??? That's kinda imprudent IMO but maybe I'm missing something (?). So I have to pay an additional fee including shipping for something that I should be able to do free of charge minus expenditure on batteries.
