HP 15-r029wm Notebook PC audio not working correctly

Hi, I recently bought a new HP 15-r029wm Notebook PC that runs Windows 8. Since day one the audio has not been working correctly, and has since been getting worse. It's hard to explain, but the audio constantly repeats bits of audio very rapidly. This occurs with or without headphones in, and the volume doesn't affect the glitching. The PC claims to have "HD audio" but this is anything but HD... Help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you.

Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your HP 15-r029wm is having issues with audio quality.
I suggest setting the audio quality to a higher setting:
1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.
2. Click Playback Devices.
3. Click Speakers.
4. Click properties.
5. Click the advanced tab on the Properties window.
6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the Headphones if they are not listed with Speakers.
8. Apply the properties.
9. Click OK to close the properties window.
10. Click OK to close the Playback Devices.
11. Test.
Also, try updating the drivers for your sound card with this download: Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver.
I would also suggest going through these documents for some generic sound troubleshooting:

  • Brand new HP Beats Special Edition 15-p030nr Notebook PC , Audio not working correctly

    Just bought this computer for me 9/30/14.  Volume is at 100% and while there is some sound, you can barely hear it.  I have checked drivers, device manager etc and nothing seems to change it.  I need to know if this is a defect in the system or if there is something else I can do.  I hate to think we paid all this money for the computer, one reason being the Beats audio, and have it not work.  I will return it if I cannot get it working.

  • Select UNUSED Audio - Not Working Correctly

    Hey Logic X users...
    Anyone having issues with "select unused audio" and deleting it?  It seems to also grab audio being used in the session - which never happened in previous versions.  I also tried it in several projects and have the same problem.
    Prior to archiving a session - or when it gets too big - I always did the following:
    1. "Select UNUSED" Audio
    2. "Move Files" to an unused audio folder I have on my drive
    3. Delete files from session (which left them in my unused audio folder I created but removed them from the project folder.
    Currently when I "Select Unused" it also takes many of the audio files used in the Tracks window and when I hit delete, they disappear. 
    This is a pretty big problem when trying to manage session file size.  Thanks in advance for any help!

    It seems likely that these have been incorrectly encoded by Netflix.
    I suspect you are using US Netflix - not sure these shows are available on UK Netflix.

  • HP Pavilion p7-1421 Desktop PC BEATS AUDIO not working.

    Hi, new here with thankfully my first problem with the desktop in the subject line.
    Somewhere along the way, the Beats Audio stopped working correctly. The Equalizer
    sliders will not move at all, and the "Test Speakers" button will highlight the left, then right
    speaker, but no sound will be produced.
    For background, I did install StartDoc, a program that gives one back the original Windows 7 "Start"
    button and desktop. Other than that, I have not installed anything, except the reccommended HP upgrades.
    Also, the machine is obviously running Windows 8, and I have NOT switched to 8.1.
    I see on the Notebook page lots of questions re. Beats not working and solutions, but each user is asked
    for the specific model, OS etc. This is why I chose to post a new thread, so that the experts can address
    my exact machine.

    I suggest reinstalling Beats Audio.
    Open the Charms menu, select "Search".
    Enter "Recovery Manager" and then select Recovery Manager from the list. Click "Yes "at the User Account Control.
    Select "Hardware Driver Reinstallation". Select "Next". Select 'IDT High Definition Audio CODEC".
    Select "Next"
    Follow prompts to reinstall and reboot your PC.

  • HP Pavilion 15-p117na Beats audio not working

    Hi, 
    Beats Audio  will not work on my new HP Laptop.  The beats audio setting in control panel is just not functioning.  
    I have download  IDT high definition Audio drivers sp63932.exe & sp63555.exe from hp support site but neither works.
    Laptop- HP Pavilion 15-p117na TouchSmart Laptop (Energy Star).
    Operating system - Windows 8.1 (64-bit).
    Any idea how to fix this?

    I grasp that you are having an issue with your Beats Audio on your new computer.
    Here is a link to the 15-p117na Software & Drivers.  I noticed the recommended audio driver for your notebook is
    sp69618.exe .  Please delete or remove the version you have updated to and install the recommended driver.
    When you installed non recommended drivers as they have not been tested on your system the outcome is unknown.  They may or may not work correctly.
    Here is a link to Beats Audio Console (Windows 8) that will guide you.
    Have you done all your Windows updates?
    Have you ran the HP Support Assistant to obtain any HP updates.
    If you should still have an issue with your new HP notebook please contact HP technical support for assistance.

  • Laptop left Speaker audio not working

    I have dv-5 1102 tu model laptop, in that left speaker audio not working. But, in headphones & Speakers have no problem in both left & right audio.

    Welcome to the HP Forums!
    I understand your left speaker is not working on your dv5 notebook.
    If the headphones are working it would tell us the sound card is fine. The same properties are applied to the speakers and the headphones in your audio control settings.
    You could try a system restore to before the issue started to make sure it's not something in the operating system. To perform a system restore see the following guide: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8) or Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).

    Basics from the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.  Unless you've tried ALL of these, you're not done troubleshooting.

    i know i thought well it's just a security update not a major update.
    Best advice... whenever updating the OS, unplug all

    Was this auto-update? Try downloading the file and
    running the update again with all firewire devices
    unplugged.
    While the 828 is disconnected perform the factory
    reset
    again.
    Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
    -Press the Setup knob
    -Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
    -Press the Select knob
    -Press the Value knob
    -Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable
    back
    in
    -Power the interface back on
    i have the original 828 not mark 2, so no reset i know of, just power on off.
    After the Mac updates... reboot and plugin the 828,
    see if that doesn't get you going.

    Hi,
    While this could be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following.
    Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click the entry 'Standard PS/2 Keyboard' and select Uninstall.
    Shutdown the notebook.
    Then unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
    Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
    Note:  If the keyboard doesn't work when trying to access or navigate the Bios Menu, then this is probably a hardware fault.

    Download the file below and instll , Restart and give your beats a try again. If you cant find Beats go to (Control Panel) and search (Beats Audio) then right click on it and create a shortcut, you should now have a shortcut to Beats Audio on your (Desktop)...

    Without knowing all of the specifics in your situation, you may want to try these options:
    - If you have a DTA, and your remote control has a LANG button on it, press it.

    5. Then press the Exit button (above the Volume button) to resume program viewing
    Please note: These audio options can only be heard if the program provider or cable channel is providing that additional audio option.
    - If the above does not help, look at the remote control for your TV set (not your cable box) as the TVs language settings may have been accidentally changed (sometimes labeled as MTS or SAP on the remote or via your TVs settings menu).

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

    Here is the Manual that shows you how to remove all the replaceable part in the notebook. Go to page 73 where it tells you the part #'s for the fans depending on what your processor is.
    Now, i wouldn't advise you to remove it yourself. 
    But these are the steps to remove the Fan. 
    1. Turn the system board right-side up, with the front toward you.
    2. Disconnect the fan cable from the system board (1).
    3. Remove the Phillips 3.0 x 2.0 screw (2) that secures the fan/heat sink assembly to the system
    board.
    4. Follow the sequence embossed on heat sink to loosen the six Phillips 10.0 x 2.0 captive screws
    (3) that secure the fan/heat sink assembly to the system board.
    If you want to replace the fan just go to Hp PartSurfer and search by your product #.
