Hi @AmrAHady
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having some problems with your display. I am happy to help.
It sounds like there may be an issue either with the graphics driver or with the display panel itself.

  • Adobe Reader will not set as default application for .pdf in windows 8.1 pro x64

When I install adobe reader the icon/app changes from windows reader to Pick an app, I choose change and select adobe reader, the icons on my desktop flicker but nothing actually changes.Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\Set Program Associations, Select adobe reader, Choose defaults for this program, PDF is unticked so I tick it and choose save, go back in and it is unticked again??? Right click on a pdf file, choose open with, choose default program, use this app for all .pdf files is ticked, select adobe...Still nothing changes, stays on pick an app. I uninstall adobe reader then the pdf icon changes to and default opens with windows reader again. Reinstall adobe reader and back to the same thing. ???? I am a power user, build configure computers and subsequent software, started with DOS 6.0, learned unix/linux/networking concepts/networking security/server versions of windows/active directory. The only solution I could think of was to hack the registry which I looked for but could not find. I am running 8.1 pro x64, I just discovered that windows reader (which I cant uninstall) has the same problem when adobe reader is installed. Windows will not allow either one to be set as default while they co-exist.

After an extended session with chat only to be told that since Adobe Reader was free they could not help me :-(... I figured it out myself.
I opened a administrator: command prompt window and typed "regedit"  Through extensive searching and stumbled on this key located at... HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2274202122-2588692262-2244265822-1001_Classes\.pdf\OpenWithProgids  The S-1-5-21...1001... is my current logged on user, your value may differ slightly. Typically the builtin disabled administrator account is 1000 and when you install windows and create a user account "John Doe" it will have administrator priveleges and be auto numbered 1001, every user account created therafter will increase by 1 ie...1002, 1003, 1004 etc. even if you remove (delete) an account and re-create it you wont get the same number, the system will use the next number in sequence. The old one will have been trashed never to be used again. Again here is the key...
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2274202122-2588692262-2244265822-1001_Classes\.pdf\OpenWithProgids I deleted this key under (default) on the right side...
    Name                                                                       Type                                           Data
    (Default)                                                                   REG_SZ                                    (value not set)
AppX86746z2101ayy2ygv3g96e4eqdf8r99j            REG_NONE                              (zero-length binary value)  ---- This is the key to delete!!!
Personally I selected computer on the left side and the went to file/export then chose a file name [01 29 2014 regbackup.reg] and location. Then I selected "OpenWithProgids" and did the same thing,[pdf.reg] this saves a backup of the entire regestry and the key you are about to delete as a safety net. When you are done all you have to do is go to a pdf file, right click and choose open with...Adobe Reader - the box always use this app should already be checked.
I did this and it works yet because improper regestry modification can crash your system I am compelled to warn... Use at your own risk. If you are uncomfortable modifying your registry I would suggest consulting with someone qualified and has resources to do offline registry modifications/restorations which makes it VERY important to do the computer export registry backup.

  • Happy with OS X 10.5 Leopard

Well, I have seen a lot of negative posts on this discussion regarding OS X 10.5 Leopard.
However, I have been quite happy with the operating system. Considering that this is a first version, without any updates, it's quite stable and usable. Of course there are going to be some bug fixes along the way. I already have found an application that doesn't run under it. But, I really think that most of these apps that don't run, simply haven't been developed under the guidelines set by Apple; or they have been developed in a very shoddy manner to begin with. Quite frankly, all my major apps run as expected.
I'm sure in time, fixes to minor bugs that come along will be issued.
Thank you to Apple, Inc for producing equipment and software far superior to that offered by Microsoft.
Now, I must complain about something in this post: When, for God's sake, are you going to offer the iPhone in Canada? I have some serious hard-earned cash waiting for that thing.
    Glenn

    Me too, i'm happy
I installed Leopard on both my G4 towers (one Dual 867mhz MDD, the other a Quicksilver Dual 1ghz).
I opted to UPGRADE on both installations and they went without a hitch. The only minor issue on the MDD G4 was the loss of my keychain passwords. I simply just deleted them and created new ones. After that, all is well and healthy.
ALL of my apps.....from FCP HD to Photoshop CS2 suite.....to Word X all work! Printing (Epson) and scanning (Epson) work just fine. All of my contacts, apps, buddy lists, docs, etc were all kept intact and are happily co-existing with Leopard.
Everything seems snappy. Networking is easier now and the screensharing works like a charm. Sure there are minor screen refresh bugs. I'll see my desktop flicker once a day or so. It happens quickly when i quit System Preferences or something. I'm sure it's a Video card issue, as i'm using the stock video card that shipped with my G4 (Nividia 32MB RAM).
DVD movie playback is even smoother than it was in Tiger. Everything works great.
Now if i could only afford a Mac Pro .... then i could witness Leopard SCREAM with Duo Cores

  • Odd CS4 rendering while zooming, anyone seen this?

    Hi all,
Just installed the CS4 Design Suite Premium and everything is swell so far with the exception of strange behavior while zooming. Whether I use my wheel mouse (logitech Revolution) or Cntrl/+- to zoom, the zooming is jumpy and all of the icons on my desktop flicker on and off. It makes no difference whether I have open GL turned on or off. I updated both the graphics card and the mouse with the latest drivers this morning and that did not help. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this or had any suggestions. Thanks for any replies.

Are you using dual screens by any chance? If configured to be treated as independent displays in NVidia Desktop manager, they have separate refresh cycles or the secondary display may not share acceleration functions, which can have a number of funny side effects. short of that - disabling visual fancies is always a good idea on systems that are meant for work, so yes, check for any themes you may be using and even turn off Windows own features for drop shadows or showing window content while dragging...

  • Please help. The Finder has crashed I guess, no icons on the desktop, menu bar and dock flicking. Can't open any app, folder or even do a right click.

Good day, I could really need some information. Thank you in advance.
    I have a 2008 24" iMac, running on 10.5.8.
I want to describe the whole issue. The only thing that changed in my routine and made it crash was that I bought a new Apple keyboard, with a wire this time, before I was using a bluetooth one, and a new wireless Logitech mouse. After I successfuly connected both, while browsing in Safari, the computer totally lagged. All I could do was to manually restart it. When I started it again, it said that the "ruby" application has quited unnexpectedly. After clicking ignore, I observed that the icons on desktop haven't loaded, the menu bar is constantly reopening itself, I can't right click, if I try to open Sistem Preferences that is as far as it will allow me to go, if I click anything else than, it closes system Pref. and leaves me again with this flicking menu bar, which of course I can't even click and an empty desktop. I couldn't see if the problem is only related to my user, as there is only 1 user on it. I tried to create a new one, but I get the problem mentioned above.
I try to see here on the forum if other people have had the same problem, but what I got was minor cases, they can still use finder or an app, everytime I open something, it dies and I only can restart the poor thing
I hope I don't have to delete all my info on my drive, that would be a big problem for me.
    Solutions, recommendations?
    Thank you.

    Hi Paul,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Screen flicker when copying to desktop

I am experiencing a sudden screen flicker when I copy files or folders to my desktop? Doesn't seem to affect the system in any way, just very annoying. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks, Rick

Step one is to log into a newly created admin user account and see if the problem persists.

  • ITunes Causing Desktop to Flicker

    Hi
Clicking on the Play, Next or Previous buttons (when a track is playing) cause the Desktop to flicker to grey. Tapping the right/left and Next/Previous on the keyboard has the same effect. Tapping the keys multiple times, in recognised by iTunes, the song name changes in now playing box but the desktop still only flashes once.
    Same happens in Safe Mode.

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the two computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. You can also if you have one, use your iPod as a hard drive and move the folder with it though that would be considerably slower than computer to computer. Here are a few links that may help you out:

  • Desktop fades/flicks on & off after reinstall of OS X

I had to erase my hard drive and reinstall my OS X Panther system last night.
The installation went thru and my laptop started up fine but, while I was using it (I only was on it for about 5 minutes) my desktop and my dekstop file menu, kept disappearing. It would flick on and off and the file menu would move up off the screen the way it does when you're shutting down.
Does anyone know what is causing this and what I can do to fix it?

BELOW IS SOME HISTORY OF THE REASON I HAD TO REINSTALL:
My laptop froze in the middle of using Illustrator 8 and the error msg I received stated that "program cannot restart because it cannot find the AGM file". (I think this is a side issue though).
    I restarted my system.
I restarted my laptop and I got the flashing question mark.
I did a Hardware Test and it showed that my drives were fine.
I did a Utility Disk check. I tried to verify permissions and repair my disk and I got a msg saying "volume 1 cannot be verified. Volume 1 cannot be repaired. (-9977)" (My hard drive is not partitioned and I only have 1 drive and it's the original drive that came with the computer)
I've used Illustrator 8 on my laptop for 2 years with no problems. But there is one thing, I was using Kai's Power Tools at the time of this problem and I've never used that on this laptop before. Could that be it?

First off, you should run the Safari 4 beta uninstaller that came with Safari 4.
Secondly, if Safari 3.2.1 doesn't work, it probably is because some network application you previously installed hasn't been tested with it. Did you install any cell phone or PDA syncing software recently? The Hotsync typically is a plugin for cell phone or PDA syncing software.

In response to below------Thank you Lynn-----Yes, there is a main panel--I will attach----and if you have any further suggestions please let me know--Thanks again
How are you running this program? Is there a top level vi which calls the ones you posted? The Display image on screen.vi will display two images in succession, but according to the note on the block diagram the second image is blank. It seems as though this would intentionally create a flicker.
The sequence structure is unnecessary. Dataflow will determine the order of execution. The only exception is the time delay in the third frame. Since it has no data dependency, a single frame sequence may be useful to assure that the delay occurs before the picture is updated. A simple state machine might be a more versatile architecture for what you may be trying to do.
It is not necessary to write the FR.PanelBounds property immediately after reading it, nor is it necessary to read it a second time in the second frame. Just wire from the first read.

  • Desktop icons flicker on Mavericks

I recently upgraded to Mavericks on my 15" MBP early 2011. Not long ago I installed some free apps from the App Store but i'm not sure if this is causing the icons on my desktop dissapear for half a second and then again appear, like some sort of flick. My system is up to date. I restarted the system and uninstalled the recently downloaded apps but it still flickers... It's very annoying!
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Searching in the forum I found possible solutions to our problem:
Desktop Icons winking in and out after Mavericks install
    Refresh Finder Mavericks
    Hope this helps!

  • Radeon 9600TX + Xorg 1.6.1.901: Disturbing Flicker

Hi! I try to setup a Radeon 9600 TX (R300 Chip) with Xorg 1.6.1.901 and xf86-video-ati. I want to use 2D + 3D acceleration. This is a new system setup using XFCE. (I intend to add compiz later.)
Acceleration for 3D is present + ok. Window resizing is rather choppy but acceptable. But I see a disturbing flicker when logged into X, as if waves were running down the screen horizontally. This is very inconvenient and hurts the eyes after a short time. Also the font in the VCs is not displayed in sharp edges but I do not know if this is interrelated (or erroneous).
I would like to keep the xorg.conf minimal. Since the DDC/EDID data that shows up in the log is correct, I did not add any ModeLines or mode setup. The log shows that xorg makes all decisions right (how it seems to me).
There are loads of posts about ati issues but I did not find anything that helped me solving my problem. Perhaps someone can help? Thanks in advance.

First I tried to force the monitor into 1280x1024@75 mode which does not show the flicker. In three horizontal areas in the screen, the display was very fuzzy. So I had to decide whether use 60Hz mode with the flicker problem or use 75 Hz mode with the fuzzyness problem.
I tried the first alternative by ignoring the EDID data and force the display mode but I didn't succeed with solving the fuzzyness problem. So I decided to go back to 60 Hz mode and try to solve the flicker problem. (I already tried 'Option "Flicker"  "false" - no effect!) I have no more ideas.

  • Intel video + desktop effects used to work... now it doesn't.

I'm using kde-mod and I'm not sure what happened, but in the last week or two, desktop effects (compositing) has stopped working, and when I drag windows around, there are artifacts and such now.  It didn't used to be this way and worked quite well before.  I'm using the intel video driver... the card is a fairly recent gmasomethingorother.  I really have no idea what to do next.

Ok I finally figured it out, well sort of. The issue was that the Netgear was screwing up the DHCP. I new it had to be the the Netgear because the setup worked fine at a friends with a Linksys. The strange thing was that iTunes could see other libraries but not connect even though a ping could not. So I turned off the DHCP server and assigned manual IP's to all the clients. Didn't work, I could see the other clients and share files but the internet was lost. Weird. Next I turned DHCP back on and reset the entire network back to my original configuration. Works like a charm. I don't really know what the issue is and the solution doesn't stick, but it can be replicated without fail. Thanks to everyone.

  • Mid 2009 13" MacBook pro mini-dp to Cinema Display screen jumps from blue to desktop

I'm using a kanex brand iAdapt mini-dp to dvi adapter to connect my macbook pro to my 23" cinema display from early 2007, but it seems like the macbook is having trouble recognizing that the display is connected. The screen will go blue for a second, then show the desktop, then go back to blue. it repeats like this for as long as the adapter is plugged in.
I've gotten the screen to connect properly twice, but as soon as I unplug my laptop and try to plug it back in another day, I run into the same issue as before. I've seen other discussions about screen flickering, but this isn't really a flicker. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, though it seems likely that this has happened before.
    Any solutions? Thanks!

  • [Solved]Conky causes desktop icons to dissappear

I decided to fool around with conky, since I saw the thread lower down in the forums.  I kinda mashed some code together and I have a conky I like (though I cant get all the modules working...) but, activating conky causes my desktop icons to dissapear (and re-appear if I mouse over).  It's my frist time actually using conky...so I might have messed up something in my (well, a mash of other's) code.
