HP 15 TouchSmart Notebook PC upgrade for stock wifi card

I would like to know what wifi card I can buy to replace the stock card in my Notebook:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHz
BIOS version F.17
Windows 8.1 64 bit
TIA

In my experience, most laptops don't support being able to replace these kind of components with 3rd party options. If the wifi card has failed, you would have to purchase one with the same part number or risk your motherboard/bios not recognizing the card. It is more than just a driver issue. Many manufacturers will write support for only a few (sometimes, only one or two) cards into the bios. There may be a way if you are comfortble modding your bios, but that is beyond my ability to talk you through.

  • T61, T60 - BSOD for Intel WiFi cards, Middleton BIOS, & Win 8.1 & 10

This is an "all-in-one" post. Recently, my trusty T61p started getting Blue Screens of Death (BSOD) with the following message:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQAL in sysnetwlv64.sys This has been frequently reported as a complication of Windows 8.1 (only) when installing the Intel drivers for the 3945 and 4965 WiFi cards.  Both Intel and Microsoft state that these cards, plus the 5200 are no longer supported, but the 6200, 6300, etc. are. Suggested remedies are:
    1. For the T61's, reflash with the Middleton BIOS (2.29 plus mods - no white list, SATA 2 works).  Then install a more recent WiFi card that has supported drivers for Win 8.1.
    2. Change cards in both the T60 and T61s to the IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter 42T0825 (this is an Atheros AR5008 5418 AR5BXB72). In recent posts I have seen about Win 10, the old Intel drivers that used to work for Win 8.0 (but didn't in 8.1) appear to work in Win 10.  (However, since it is still before July 29, I can only assume this is in preview versions, not RTM).  If anyone has actually in installed the Win 10 RTM and had no problems, this whole thing may be a "non-issue".  Is there any experience with this? If I follow the remedies suggested above:
    1. Using the replace the card approach with the Middleton BIOS, what is a good card to get?  The other benefit of the Middleton BIOS is to allow the harddrives in the T-61's as SATA 2 instead of the dumbed-down SATA 1 as in the stock 2.29, 2.30 BIOS
    2. If I follow the replace with the Atheros cards, I assume the best approach is to see if there are 3 antennas in the T60 (the T61's already have them).  If not, I understand that I can add the 3rd antenna with FRU 42R9909. For specific machine configurations, see the specs at the bottom (they're all "FrankenPads"). Many thanks for looking and your comments... --------------------------------------T-61p -- 15.4" WXSGA+, Win 8.1 64-bit, BIOS 2.30, CPU-T9500 2.6 GHz (Penryn), RAM 8GB DDR2-667 (2x4GB), HD 500GB (7200RPM, SATA 2, WD5000BPKT-00PK4T0), NVIDIA Quadro F570FM (1680x1050 - 9.18.13.2702), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 4965 (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel 82566MM (9.13.41.3), Ricoh Media Cardbus (6.3.9600.16384), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047) T-61 -- 14.1" WXGA+, Win 8.1 64-bit, BIOS 2.30, CPU-T7800 2.6 GHz (Merom), RAM 8GB DDR2-667 (2x4GB), HD 320GB (7200RPM, SATA 3, WD3200BEKX-22B7W4T0), NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (1440x900 - 9.18.13.2702), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 4965 (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel 82566MM (9.13.41.3), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047) T-60 -- 14.1" XGA, Win 8.1 32-bit, BIOS 2.27, TPM 1.2, CPU-T7600 2.3 GHz (Merom), RAM 3GB usable DDR2-667 (2x2GB), HD 320GB (7200RPM, SATA 2, WD3200BEKT-00PVM4T0), Intel Graphics 945 Express (1024x768 - 8.15.10.2697), DVD-RAM, WiFi Intel 3945ABG (13.3.0.137), Ethernet Intel PRO/1000PL (9.15.11.0), Biometric CPU (1.6.1.341), Conexant Modem (7.62.0.0), Broadcom Bluetooth (12.0.0.8047)

Hi: Unfortunately, the support pages are not working for most of the newer HP PC's. It has been that way for about a day now. Since I am not employed by nor do I represent HP, I am not sure when they will have the pages working again. Check back again some other time. With the Independence Day holiday weekend in the USA, I would not expect this to be taken care of immediately.

  • Can I replace stock wifi card with an Intel 6235 Wifi/Bluetooth PCI-e card in my N580?

I have a PCI-e WiFi/BT combo card that worked in my HP laptop, but when I put it in the N580, It would not boot and said the wifi card was not authorized and I would have to remove it and replace with an authorized card. There are SO many different card available, I just want to find the correct one that will fit in the BIOS Whitelist.
I'm looking for a Dual Band wifi with Bluetooth 4.0 preferred. Something like this. Would this one on eBay work or is there another card I would need.
    Thanks!

    Hello and welcome,
Whatever card you use, it MUST have a Lenovo FRU number.  Cards that will pass the BIOS whitelist have been modified to provide a specific subsystem ID to BIOS.  Reputable sellers will list the Lenovo FRU if their card is compatible.
For example, a generic Intel 6150NX will not pass the whitelist, but a 6150NX with a 20002543 FRU number will pass.
Here's the list from the N580 Hardware Maintenance Manual:

  • HP ENVY Touchsmart m6-n010dx RAM and SSD/WiFi card help!!

My HP laptop is about 8 months old and it gets the job done but like any windows computer it slows down over time. The CPU is great, but the RAM is eh and slow. I want to upgrade the ram but everywhere I look it says the RAM is NONexpandable, But on here an employee wrote to someone with the same model laptop that it will support 16GB. Can I get confirmation? My system is the 64 bit.
The RAM they say to use is PC3-1600, is this the only speed or is there something faster?
I also want to replace my factory HDD with a Samsung 850 PRO SSD 512GB (will be loaded with Linux Mint 64bit on live USB)

  • G6 Laptops are not upgradable with HP Wifi card

I am very displeased about having found that my new G6 does not allow new HP hardware.
I had taken the time to properly order a HP part and find that you cannot upgrade.
My HP part number is, 629887-001  Ralink RT3592 2x2 802.11n.
I can understand keeping foreign parts from other manufacturer, but this is a HP part that should be valid for upgrading.
I cannot believe such shoddy hardware limitations.

Please give me a trouble ticket for fixing this ASAP!

Please provide your NB model name number.  it is usually under bottom or under the battery bay.  I will try to find out if it is compatible with the module you purchased

  • Manually upgrading Thinkpad Yoga WiFi card

    Hey all,
I bought a TPY from Newegg, which shipped with the Intel Wireless-N 7260. The laptop finds and connects to my home network fine, but can't find my work WiFi network at all. I've tried a few different drivers to no avail. Would buying and installing the dual band version of this card, or getting the Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 make a difference?
And if so, can someone double check that this is the right part? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106190
I know there's a whitelist in the BIOS, but I assume that if other models ship with the AC card then I can swap it in.
The model type number is 20CD-0033US S/N **********
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello and welcome,
The whitelist requires the correct model and a Lenovo FRU number.  That NewEgg card looks to be generic Intel and won't pass the whitelist.
The  FRU's are available in the TP Yoga part list:  http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/yoga_fru_bom_20131107.pdf
I'm having a hard time figuring out which one is dual-band.  Hopefully someone else here on the boards can provide info.  Price and availability is going to be an issue
Before you go down that road, have you verified that your work wifi is 5GHz-only, and that there isn't some other problem?

  • Faster WIFI Card for Toshiba L455D Laptop

Looking for a wifi card to replace the ATL8187SE card in my L455D.  My reason for wanting to do this is because the 8187 max. download speed is aroung 20 Mbps and I need a card that can double this speed so I can take advantage of my 50 Mbps provided by my internet provider.
    Thanks

Not sure what the issue is that's resulting in a change for you. However, the MBP's wireless reception has always been comparatively poor relative to many other laptops. It's not a Mac issue per se, it's the aluminum casing, which blocks the wireless signal whereas polycarbonate does not. MacBooks (non-Pro) get significantly better reception than MBPs with the same wireless card.
Nevertheless, to answer your question, here's an ExpressCard 802.11n adapter and a cheaper USB 802.11n adapter that will work with your MBP.
    Hope this helps...

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best graphics card for these larger displays for the best value?

I recommend you install nothing older than the Apple-firware 5770, about US$250.
RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

Hello. I have the HP Pavlilion dv6t-7000 with the NVIDIA GT650M 1GB grpahics card. Now because of my work, i need to extends my graphic card memory. So I want to ask if my laptop is possible to upgrade to GT650M 2GB card.
My product number is A5F74AV. And my wannary is end on 8/24/2013.
And this laptop is a gift of my aunt from USA, and I'm living in Viet Nam now. So if yes, can HP Vietnam do the upgrade for me? My aunt's family is very busy so I can't resend my laptop and ask them to return to you.
    Thank you very much!

    Hi:
The only way to upgrade the video card in your notebook is to replace the entire motherboard which would cost as much as buying a new notebook with better graphics.
If you had HP do the upgrade, it would probably cost more than buying 2 notebooks with better graphics than yours.

    Hi,
You can't, they use two DIFFERENT Operating Systems. You may be able to get SIMILAR apps (same functions, same names) but you can't move apps from Android to Windows. My suggestion: On your HP 15 machine, use Windows Store and search for app or apps you like and then install on it.

I recieved a HP touchsmart Notebook as a Christmas gift and the image quality is  horrible! Even in a well lit environment, the image is still not clear. I have adjusted the settings to try to improve the image quality, but there is still not much of a difference in the way the images appear. Why there no more upgrade for MacBook Pro 17in ?

The story I heard was that there wasn't enough volume of sales for Apple to expend the resources to develop the line further.  When the 17" MBP line only accounted for 2-3% of the sales, it wasn't enough to offset the expense to engineer it, stock it, support it, etc.  What they chose to do was to offer the retina display 15" MBP that supports the same resolution (and possibly higher) and at the same time reduce the number of models they have to support.
