I bought this printer in January and only printed half a dozen or so color prints, but always has color streaks.  I have printed may 200 B&W pages and they seem OK. I ran the calibration I found in the operator interface, but doesn't make any difference. See attached original image and scan of the color print.  Yes the scan looks just like the color print.  Color cartridges all show 80% full.  B&W cartridge is 70%. scan of color print  Original ImageWhat can I do to improve this?  I really was expecting better color print quality.

  • Brother Printing Issues. HL-4040CN Poor color printing quality!

Ok Gang... I'd like to get a problem fixed that I've been living with for over a year now. I posted this back almost a year ago and have been so busy.
I have a Brother HL-4040CN laser printer that printed perfectly when I bought it. About 4-6 months after that the colors started printing faded. I thought it was due to the fact that I had moved and had messed something up when moving. But here's the rub... When I print out the DEMO file that is on the printer, it prints beautiful. But when I print out from my mac which is hooked up via Ethernet, the colors print faded. I also put a simple PDF on a flash drive and printed straight through the printer and it was fine. So I'm at a loss. I am including the link from where I inquired last time and what I had already tried. I am also contacting Brother, but the last time I talked to them, they suggested that it was a software issue since it printed the demo fine.
Here is the link from the other forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2172633&tstart=0
Any other ideas I can try would be appreciated.

When I print out the DEMO file that is on the printer, it prints beautiful.
That's the key to knowing it is not a hardware issue.
This is clearly a software issue. Either the drivers have become outdated, or the setting in the page setup is not right for the source in question, or the source in question is not a high enough resolution.
I also put a simple PDF on a flash drive and printed straight through the printer and it was fine.
Now am I to assume that if you printed the same PDF from the computer, it doesn't print fine?

  • Poor Color printing from Printer

Now that one problem is solved, I have a bigger one. My new computer, designed and made to my liking, prints hues 5-8 shades darker than my LCD monitor.System: Vista 32 -bit, service Pack 1, video card Nvidia 9400GT Pci/SSE2, 2666 MHZ, video mode 1680x1050, physical processor count: 4, memory used by PS 70%.   My Photosmart printer, before Vista, printed gorgeous colors with  the computer that was replaced. I use "Photoshop Manages Colors", but the final rendition is not good.
I've not worked in color for print with this new printer at all, and  I'll have brochures and poster work coming up in the Fall. I can't offer crummy color for the final productions.
. Hope you can help get this 'puter doing better stuff. I'm wondering if the Video card could be the problem? I updated it a few weeka ago, and print colors were far from the LCD.  Ideas for getting better color intensities are needed and most welcome.  Thanks in advance....mm

    Marie,
It should be one of the grouping on the bottom "HPpspro........"  depending on what paper you are using.  Probably either the bottom one or the 4th one - ending in "tricolor+photo"  you might need to try a couple and see.
You seem to be having troubles with drivers for the "puck" ( the device that does the measuring).  On mine, those drivers were installed with the program and should have recognized.  But you seem to have found them elsware.  from the screen pic that you sent, the "win zip" option should allow you to open a zipped file.

  • Designjet T790 color printing poor line quality

    Good Morning,
We have the HP Designjet T790 printer. Line quality is poor when printing color images (stepped and jagged). Line quality is ok when printing black only. I tried to change the settings to improve line quality and end up with a compressed, unuseable document. I ran all diagnostics available through the HP instructions. I was wondering if there is a different driver OR settings that I may try to improve my printer quality.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Bosco69,
The Designjet is a commercial product.  I am linking you to the Designjet forums try reposting your question there for better coverage.

  • How to Impove PDF Color Printing

Thanks to previous help when my printer went awol and wouldn't print anything from PS, the great suggestion was made here to try PDF. For the small emergency at the time, it workded just great, and I could  print borderless.    However, that was just black/white, and now I have a lovely poster in bright colors that are fine on another printer as long as it's  not borderless or larger  than letter size.
The poster is 11X17 and PDF will do it. A trial print in PDF showed poor colors, much grayer and the intensity of the plan is lost. I don't want to reduce the size or not have it borderless and have to use the other business  printer even though the test colors were just fine. How do I get better color results using PDF?  Thanks so much.....mm

If you want to parse through the PDF data structures and alter their colors you certainly can but there's no magic "invert" function for vector data anywhere. The closest you could come would be to generate an ICC profile that mapped each color to its compliment and tag the document with it, but that would only work if the PDF viewer used the profile correctly.

  • Poor quality printing

About a year ago I remember seeing frequent complaints about the poor quality printing in photo books.
Is anyone else still having problems? I just recieved 2 books and I am just unimpressed (and quite disappointed) with the print quality.
One is a duplicate of a book I had printed through My Publisher last year and there is a night and day difference. The My Publisher book looks far superior.
I was having difficulty with My Publisher so I decided to give Apple's service a try.
I'm shooting with an 8mp dSLR camera (Canon) so I should have no issue with 8x10 prints. My scanned images were all at 300dpi.
Many of the photos in the book I've had printed locally and there is a big quality difference.
Is anyone seeing this problem or did I just get unlucky?
    THANKS!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The Apple book cannot compete with your printing of the photos or pages on your own inkjet printer or thru a photofinisher. It uses a different type of printer. The current books (all sizes) are printed at 300 dpi. Here's what Apple send me regarding the books printing and material quality:
I contacted Apple and asked for information that I could pass on. Here's the reply I received from Apple:
"Thank you for contacting the Apple Print Products Customer Service.
I understand that you would like to know the printing process that is used and the color mode the files should be in, so you can better advise users in the iPhoto forum.
iPhoto version 4 or later, allows you to import and print files through the Apple Print Product service as RGB, grayscale, or CMYK color space. JPEG files with RGB color space are recommended for best results.
While iPhoto 2 can import files of various formats, including RGB color, grayscale, and CMYK, this version requires JPEG files with RGB color space when printing photos and books.

Here are some of the technical specifications for the books, cards, and calendars. I hope this gives you an idea about their quality and form.
    BOOKS
All iPhoto books are printed using acid-free paper for long-lasting image quality. The photos are printed at a high resolution (300DPI if you use iPhoto 6). There is no external modification--such as sharpening or contrast adjustment--of the photos; what you see in the application is what is printed in the book.
    Hardcovers Books
The cover is hard-bound and covered in linen. You select the linen color during the book-ordering process. The hardcover books have a solid, stiff binding that is glued and crimped. The internal pages, measuring 8.5 x 11 inches, are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock.
    Softcover Books
The softcover books come in three sizes:
    - Large 8.5 x 11 inches
    - Medium 6 x 8 inches
    - Small 2.6 x 3.5 inches
All of the softcover books have internal pages that are printed on McCoy 100# Text Gloss paper stock. The large softcover book has a white cover (Kromekoteplus Folding Cover, 16 point) with a cutout on the front that reveals the cover-page photo in the book. The covers for the medium and small softcover books have the cover image and title printed directly on the cover. All of the softcover books have a glued binding and feature a thick cover of McCoy 100# Cover Gloss paper stock.
    CARDS
All cards are printed on McCoy 120# Silk Cover paper stock. The postcards measure 4 x 6 inches, and the greeting cards measure 5 x 7inches.
    CALENDARS
All calendars measure 8 x 10 inches and are printed on McCoy 100# Silk Cover paper stock.
To ensure the best print quality, we have chosen to use Kodak NexPress technology. The press uses a dry toner, which is fused to the surface of the paper. Please see NexPress' site for more information:

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Ready to buy my first color printer...help!

    Hello!
I'm a soon to be homeschooling mom looking for a color printer. I have no idea if I need injet or laser.
I have a black and white printer but now I need to print for curriculum for my toddlers so color is pretty important. I also want to print pretty quotes to frame for my walls and colorful day planner pages for me and family newsletters for Christmas/Holidays and scrapbook pages. Copy feature would be great but not neccessary. Reasonable priced ink refills/cartridges/whatever are a must because we'll be using it a ton--a printer that will play nice with cheaper off brand refills would be a definite bonus.
I don't need black & white because I have a printer for that already.
I also need something Mac friendly (which our last HP seriously failed at).
So what printer do I need?

I don't have a specific recommendation, but you should choose an AirPrint-capable printer from this list:
    AirPrint Basics
Ink refills are never reasonably priced. Off-brand ink may cause the printer to malfunction or produce poor output.
If you don't need photo quality, consider a color laser. Much cheaper to operate and more reliable.

  • Why are my Photos very poor when printed from PSE9, but fine from iPhoto.

I have the most up to date versions of Mac OS and printer driver for Epson Stylus Photo R280.  I have tried many different print settings in PSE9, but my photos are still very grainy and poor quality.  Sometimes just a blank sheet pulls through the printer. Please help.

Hope you choosing the correct paper type and profile settings. Also choosing the correct color management will surely help as i myself use the same printer on win as well as mac and not observing any such issues.

I have an HP deskjet color printer that only prints in black and white from my mac ... how do I get it to print in color

Check the printer itself.  Some printers you need to set the color & B&W settings on the printer itself instead of the Mac.   If that is not the case w/your printer, contact HP tech support and/or post in their forums if they have one.

  • I am using Aperture 3 to edit RAW and JPEG photo images on my Macbook.  I am having color printing issues with my Canon MP640 Pixma color printer.  The image I see on my macbook is not reciprocated in printing from my printer?

My issue is that I am not getting print quality compared to the image I see on my screen.  Just recently it has been very wishie washie.  My printer is supposed to be excellent for producing color prints
I have contacted Canon support but they told me that the signals that are sent to the printer originate from an Apple product, therefore, it is an Apple mac problem not there's.  I am wondering if my on screen proofing and/or printing profiles are correctly set.  I notice that in 'print profiles' there are nine different options for printing from my particular printer.  How confusing is that?
I have also found that when I choose a high standard print option my photo print comes out very red.
Can some kind person please help me?  I don't seem to be getting any help from anyone else!  Thanks in anticipation.

You didn't mention any color calibration being done on your monitor.  This is an essential part of any color-correct workflow.  What are you using to calibrate your monitor (and your printer)?
Print profiles (for soft-proofing as well as printing) are for specific combinations of paper & printer.  The nine you have are each, most likely, for a common paper (perhaps mfr'd by Canon) to be used with your printer.
I don't know what you mean when you say "I choose a high standard print option".
Have you read the User Manual chapter on printing?
