Hp 2000-140ca notebook wireless adapter problem

I've had my HP 2000-140ca since about June 2011
Today I woke up to find that my harddrive was fried. I knew this was coming as error messages came up lately, and I had backed up important files in advance. While not the reason I'm posting this, I am extremely disappointed in the length of time the harddrive lasted.
Anyway, since I can't afford to be without the laptop for the length of time it would take to send it away to have it "fixed" under warrenty (basically any amount of time at all) I decided to just buy a new hard drive and deal with it myself.
Hard drive replaced, windows 7 64 installed, many drivers downloaded and also installed. The one problem I seem to have now is that for some reason the wireless driver refuses to install. I've downloaded several different versions as there's a few for this model on the site but nothing seems to work. It just won't detect drivers and when I run the downloaded file it seems to install initially but then fails to do anything. I'm at a loss here and am already suffering the loss of a portable computer.

Do you know what wireless adapter it is?

hello.  i'm trying to get my pc's wireless capabilities running but am having issues.  i have tried a few things and am hoping you can direct me further.  i can buy a wireless usb adapter but the pc comes with one so i am trying to use it first.
the physical card is a ralink rt 3090.  on hp's driver download it suggested a different driver than the one linked to this particular card.  the hp suggestion would not install and i found that i already had the driver installed that was recommended (netr28x.sys).  when i look under 'device manager' in 'network adapters' only the 'realtek PCIe FE Family Controller' is there, not a wireless option.  how can i make this happen?  i have looked inside the computer and verified the actual existence of the card and have an antennae attached.  any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  thank you.

    Hi kca77,
Have you disabled the wireless adapter? It should appear in Device Manager within Network Adapters.
Do you have any Device Manager errors?
Try reseating the WIFI card on the mainboard.
Open Network and Sharing in Control Panel, open change adapter settings. Is the WIFI adapter listed?
You either: have a driver configuration issue or a hardware problem

  • Airport extreme connecting with xbox 360 wireless adapter problems...help!!

Has anyone linked their xbox 360 wireless adapter to an Airport Extreme? I need help! Neither Apple nor Microsoft knew how to link the two devices. If anyone has successfully been able to make this work, your help will be much appreciated. Thanks guys

Yes - Mine works no problem. I have found that I have to unplug the Xbox360 wireless adaptor and plug it back in occasionally (if the green light is on everything is fine). Are you using the correct WPA Key?

  • IPhone 3G: Wireless adapter problem

    Hi there,
since two days I have problems connecting my iPhone to my wireless network. We have two iPhones and severals other devices in our home network and every device is still working, except this one iPhone.
Is there any chance that the wireless adapter in the iPhone breaks without anything happening, like I didn't drop the phone or something like that. It's just the wireless not working anymore, the network is detected but once I enter the password, it says it cannot connect. Even turning the encryption off doesn't help. The other iPhone still works perfectly.
Has anyone an idea how I can verify that the hardware itself is still working properly?
    Thanks and regards,
    Seb

Using Windows 8 and everytime I restart my computer I lose conection to the internet. I run troubleshooting and it resets my wireless adapter (Broadcom 802.11n) and it works again. But it is such a pain resetting the adapter everytime I boot it up. What can I do?

Hi, I've got the same problem as these ppl above. Broadcom 802.11n Troubleshoot problems. When I click on "fix the problem" my computer just stop working-freezing. It was working 8 months perfectly, but not anymore. When I can connect to a network, it's only good for 1-2 minutes, then it's just stops working. I need to close my laptop, then wait and open it, and it's working 1-2 minutes again then stops... Basicly I cannot connect to any network anymore.
Some ppl said try to reset some options like "WakeUP mode"

The thing is, I have my computer in hungarian language, I bought it in Hungary, I have my hungarian warranty on it and because I living in London, I have no idea where to go or who to ask. • Windows 8 Wireless adapter problem. - WIFI reset itself.

    Hello,
I have the same problem, but only after I installed the HP wireless printer (8500 & 8600).  Have you found a solution yet?
I have windows 8 now and had no problem with 7.
    S

    Hi disconnected33,
I see you are having difficulty with your wireless. Please provide me with some detail to help me better understand the issue and the environment.
Is the printer connected wirelessly or with a Ethernet cable?
Is the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or a surge protector? (It is best to connect directly to the wall)
Where is the router located with respect to the computer and printer?
Is it a standalone router or a modem/router?
Does the issue seem to be the printers connecting to the network, the computer or both?
Is this an HP laptop or a different brand?

  • MSI GE60 wireless adapter problem.

    Hello,
I have buyer this model a week ago, and as I'm away from wifi access point I used an adapter for better connection.
The tests I've done have been made with 3 different adapters, including the famous alfa 2w, and different wired and tested in all  laptop USB ports.
I have also repeated all tests after installing the drivers of adapters manually.
When I plug the WIFI adapter are continuously switching on and off with the typical windows sound when you plug USB, flashing interval is once every 2 seconds. If at this moment I see the available networks also see blinking WiFi 2 adapter.
I have not noticed any anomaly when using other USB devices such as a mouse or storage devices.
And those 3 adapters work fine on other computers with the same operating system (W8).

In the Realtek HD Audio Manager, in the upper right corner of the screen is a button, "Device Advanced Settings". Click that, and in the new window you should have 2 options on the top and 2 on the bottom. Set the top one to "Mute the internal output device, when an external output device plugged in".
That should fix the issue I believe.

  • Pavilion G7 wireless adapter stopped working and now will no longer boot.

    I bought a Pavilion G7 about 7 months ago.
After a couple of months, the wireless adapter stopped working, it just disappeared from the Device Manager (Win7 Home).
I reset the computer to factory settings and it fixed that problem.
One month after this, the wireless adapter problem returned, I tried to use system recovery to restore it to a previous point, no luck.
I closed the laptop after this, didn't turn it off.
Opened it up and decided to watch a video I had on there, I had to pause the video halfway through (used Windows media player). Came back to continue watching and the screen was black. No lightbar activity, just blackness.
I pressed a few buttons, nothing.
Decided to do a hard reset (hold the power button for 8 seconds) then I left it and turned it on again, the blank screen returned, no signs of life, no boot, no HDD activity, nothing. The caps lock button was on, the wireless light (of course) was orange.
What on Earth has gone wrong? What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks.

  • Intel 3945ABG wireless adapter

I have a wireless adapter problem.
I am unable connect to my wireless modem using the wireless adapter. I can only connect with the Ethernet adapter and cable. I am unable to renew or release an IP address or get a manually set IP to work on the wireless network. Another laptop computer connects to the wireless modem fine.
I tried downloading and installing the adapter driver from Lenovo, but that failed halfway through unpacking and transferring to the hard drive, with the message "access is denied" on C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\WLLANINT\Vista\Apps\v32\Thumbs.db.
Does anyone have any ideas about my wireless network problem or how to successfully install a new driver?
    Many thanks
    Gil Lambert

delete the thumb file then try to re-install.
by the way, do not forget to switch the wireless button ( probably front side of your computer ) and make sure you activate wireless by pressing fn + f5 ( also make sure your function keys are working, if not, re-install power management )

  • Unternehmenslösung gesucht X1 20A8 mit Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter Probleme

    1 Business Case
Fehlende VGA-Adapter  b.) Niedrige Bildschirmauflösung 1024x768 (XGA) oder 1280x1024 (WXGA).
All o.g.

  • WRT300N & Wireless G Adapter Problem Fix!!

I'm posting this message again with a better "message subject" because I believe it will help a lot of frustrated purchasers of the WRT300N Router.  Please excuse the double post!!
Unbelievable.  I cannot tell you how long I had to work on getting my wireless G adapter to recognize my new WRT300N router network!!  Very frustrating.  I tried just about every suggestion from all of you wonderful forum participants (just where is linksys tech support in all of this?) and just couldn't get the thing to work until.....I did a combination of things, one suggested here, and another on the Microsoft knowledgebase support site.  Here they are.  First, Microsoft says your wireless G cannot communicate with your WRT300N because the  RTS threshold and Fragmentation threshold settings are not the same.  If you have taken Linksys' suggestion to lower your advance wireless settings so RTS and Fragmentation are "2304", you must also change your wireless G card adapter RTS and Fragmentation settings to "2304", mine were defaulted much higher at 4906.  Then you should take the WONDERFUL advice of "Shoemaker2006" who posted the following back in July of 2006:
"...I figured out that the wide band does not really cover the G range but only the N range sort of like a donut with the hole in the middle. When the settings are in mixed mode and wide band the G range is only covered on the outermost part of the G range next to the N range. When in wide band and only N mode the G range is not even addressed. To get the G strength you jave to have it in G mode only and Short band to address the G range. Also have it on channel 11 if possible to not have wireless phone problems. With these settings my network is rock solid (WRT300N + 3 WUSB54G adapters). As far as the N desktop adapter goes it probally will have issues in mixed mode since this is a Pre-N architecture router and the range is not N only. I would not suggest the router to anybody looking for N only speeds until the next firmware update which is specific to the N range problems.
Thank you Shoemaker2006!  Changing my channel to 11 and selecting "G mode only" gave me the range I needed to make my wireless G card communicate with my WRT300N router.  Hope this helps some of you.  I won't even bother you with the 25 other things I tried because none of those changes worked.  So, match your card and routers RTS and Fragmentation threshold numbers, change the router to channel 11 and select "G mode only".  It works!!!

set your gateway on the second to be the IP of the 1st router.  that should take care of it.

I recently purchased hp 15 notebook r204tu I am confused about which driver should I use for wireless internet access .When you go on hp website for drivers they have given 7 drivers I donot know which one would work please can any provide link to the driver or name the manufacturer of the wireless adapter I m using windows 7 64 bit sp1
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

HP uses various brands of wireless adapters in their laptops.Your driver page has Broadcom & Qualcomm Atheros drivers so it is likely you have one or the other. You can try both- or get the hardware id of the wireless adapter. From Device Manager, right click the adapter, choose Properties. In the window that opens click the Details tab. Use the dropdown selector to choose Hardware ID. Use the top line that appears and do a search for that string to find the device name. Or you can post it here.

  • Wireless Adapter having problems

My laptop Paviion 15-b008TX contains Ralink Radio Model RT3290. I have issue connecting to the wifi.I have tried updating the latest drivers anduninstalled and install back the wireless adapter again, but none of it works. How can i solve this issue? Can I just change a new wireless adapter outside? If its possible what are the wireless adapter model that is compatible with my laptop?

You need to open firewall ports on your cisco router
    Port number are (88 , 3074 , 443 , 10070 - 10080)
Use port triggering instead of port fowarding.. You can find this under the application and gaming tab. on the setup page of the router.
Change the MTU size to 1365. Disable the UPnP. Go to Security tab and uncheck the box 'Filter anonymous internet request'.
Make sure that the router firmware is upto date.

  • Satellite T130 - No wireless adapter in device manager

I only got connected to the internet yesterday. The internet worked fine, but on shut-down I had the first round of Windows updates. Now I have exactly the same situation - no wireless adapter in the device manager, no unknown or 'other' devices (some posts suggest update driver for these then it will recognise). I had not played around with the system settings at all (only had the laptop for a month) and even restoring it to before I had the internet has not got it back. Interestingly when I turn on the computer the 'internet' LED on my router blinks for a few seconds - suggesting some communication as I am the only computer connected. Also as it worked fine before (and the laptop has not even been moved) I do not believe the many responses to posts about "hardware problems". After seeing many similar questions in this and the US forum I wish I had never bought this laptop. Because I have not seen any posts with a solution apart from taking it into the service centre!
I really don't want to go down the service centre route with a brand new PC. I will never again buy Toshiba unless they offer me a downloadable/phone solution when I call them tomorrow.
I really hope someone from Toshiba is taking all these posts seriously. Don't do a Toyota.

    Hi buddy,
To be honest I dont know what problem you have.
First of all its not important if your notebook is brand new or not. Such problems can happen on all computers, even if they are only few days old. Every parts are electrical parts and can die always. Nobody is able to say when it happens or can avoid this.
For example with a new car you can also have problems after few days and then you also go to the service point. ;)
    Back to your problem:
You can try restoring to factory settings. If this doesnt work it seems to be a hardware malfunction but make sure that WLAN adapter is enabled with FN+F8 key combination.
I doubt that somebody from Toshiba will read your posting. Its only an user to user forum where you can talk with normal users. Toshiba isnt your first contact person, its always the authorized service provider.
Here you can search for an ASP in your country:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider
Good luck and I hope I could help you a little bit! :)
