HP 2000-2b16NR Recovery Attempt Failed Windows 8 64bit

Product Name: HP 2000-2b16NR
Operating System: Windows 8 x64
I was attempting to do a recovery with the discs I had bought from HP and I got this message "Recovery Attempt Failed" with options to restart recovery or view details. So I restarted the recovery and inserted disc 1 as it asked. It went through the process again and it came up with this same message "Recovery Attempt Failed". This time I clicked view details and it came up with notepad titled CTOERROR.flg with the following:
[13:17:34.28] ChkErrBB.CMD:
[13:17:34.28] Detect some error during PININST_BBV
[13:17:34.28] Check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
[13:17:34.28] or, check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
My Hard drive is completely wiped and I can not preform a system recovery by pressing f11 and I can not access Windows.
My question is why can I not successfully complete the recovery process?
This question was solved.

  • Dv6 recovery attempt fail windows 7 (64)

I'm trying to recover my Dv6-6135dx (windows 7-64 bit) using the 3 HP provided recovery DVDs. The recovery process almost completes until I get the "recovery attempt failed" message. I've retried several times. So far I've tried to do a hard reset, set the system date to 2012, and resetted the BIOS to default settings. I read in several forums on this topic that the wireless needs to be turned on in order for the recovery to be successful. However, the light on my keyboard for the wireless adapter stays orange even though I try and turn it on. Can can anyone offer help so I can get my laptop up and running? Thanks!

If you can read the 25 character Microsoft Windows 7 license key, you can download a Windows 7 ISO file to burn to a DVD or USB flash drive. The version  must match version that came installed on your PC as  listed on the Microsoft COA sticker attached to bottom of laptop. Such as Windows Home Premium.
Link to the Windows 7 ISO file downloads:
    http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/
You can use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to convert the ISO file you download. Link and instructions below. You need a  DVD+R or DVD -R . Or a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool#installation
Use the 25 character key on the COA to activate the installation.
Next go to your support and driver page to install the drivers you need.

  • ENVY 17-j053ea recovery attempt failed

Hi, I have a HP ENVY 17-j053ea which I had to purchase recovery discs for. I used the recovery discs several times following different instructions and using different BIOS settings, and have been in 3 different chats with HP but I am still getting an error message. In the final chat HP told me that I should take the laptop back to the retailer who should repair/replace it for me and if they don't then to contact HP over chat again.
The error message is a dialog box with a black background titled 'Recovery Manager' and the message says 'The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons:' where the buttons are 'Save Log', 'Details' and 'Retry'. If I click on 'Retry' it prompts me to insert disc 1 again, (at the stage of recieving this error message both discs have already been used) and if I click on 'Details' a file named 'CTOERROR.flg' opens in Notepad and contains the following text:
    ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some error during PININST_BBV.
    ChkErrBB.CMD : Check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
    ChkErrBB.CMD : or, check c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
Is there anything that anyone can suggest before I return the laptop?

Enter the BIOS and reset the notebook's system date to 01/14/2014. Run the recovery. When you get to the place where you are askedif the notebook cane with supplemental media, remove the recovery media and let the notebook restart.
You may have to run the recovery one more time and reset the system date to 01/01/2014. I have performed five + recoveries on my current Spectre 13 HP TouchSmart Ultrabook product loan to become familiar with the process when a GPT disk is involved. Each time it has taken me three times to achieve a factory image recovery.

  • E9G80UA#ABA 17-j017cl Recovery attempt failed

I recently had the HDD fail on me. It was making clicking noises and would not boot up anymore, giving me the 3F0 error.  I contacted HP since it's still under warranty and they verified it was a failed HDD. They sent me one to replace it with along with 3 recovery discs and 1 driver/program disc.  I have tried 3 failed attempts to install the recovery discs and each has failed the same way. I get the failed recovery attempt message box along with 3 options, save log, view details and retry. I saved it and tried over and over with no luck. I read on here that someone said to change the BIOS date to 1/14/2014. I'm currently trying that as of right now, disc 1 is loading. If this doesn't work, what other options do I have?
I also have tried installing it like so:
install 3 recovery discs and when it asks for a supplemental disc to install it. I installed the supplemental disc at this time
Install 3 recovery discs and when it asks for the supp disc, I skipped it and let it reboot before attempting to install drivers.
Both ways I get the same error.

Try changing the date in the BIOS to 01/01/2014

  • Presario C700 - Recovery attempt failed.

I tried to return my laptop to its original condition using discs supplied by HP. The procedure seemed to go in 3 phases - reformat of the drive, installation of Windows Vista and finally, the remaining software. At the end of the procedure I was presented with the message "The recovery attempt has failed".
The details included a series of passes, then:-

Anyways, I ordered new recovery discs for my laptop from hp and ran them... Alright, I was able to get windows installed... now I'm trying to install the drivers... Do you have to install them in a certain order or way? I'm having trouble installing a lot of them. I'm not even sure I need to install ALL of them. Are some of them for components I don't have on my laptop?

  • SOLVED: HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx Windows 7 Recovery Partition Failed, Windows Partition Formatted

Hello everyone. I just joined the community, so I apologize in advance if I am in the wrong place or if I do not supply all the needed information about my computer and problem in this first post.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx Entertainment Notebook PC, which came with Windows 7 Home Edition, and an HP Recovery Partition. Today, I decided I wanted to start from scratch, as the system was getting pretty slow, and the User folders were becoming very unorganized. So I followed the instructions found at the HP website and used the program HP Recovery Manager. However, after the Recovery Partition formatted the Windows Partition, and had three minutes left to copy the files into the new partition, a message popped up declaring the recovery failed, and the computer had to be rebooted. So now I have a computer with no operating system on it at all, and the Recovery Partition continues to fail. I have used the Recovery Partition before, and this has never happened.
Has anyone encountered or know of a similar issue? Does anyone know a solution? Am I out of luck, or is there someway to ask HP for a copy of the installation media?
    Thank you in advance.
EDIT: Never mind. I found a forum post with my answer. Sorry to anyone who spent the time to read this post.

how did yiu fix this problem

Recovery Discs failure is frequent, and unfortunately has many causes. Some things to try that have worked in other cases.>>
1-Enter BIOS and reset to Default settings. Usually it is F9 key, check bottom of screen to be sure. Next F10 to Safe & Exit. Run Recovery again. You can attempt it from the partition now instead of Discs if preferred by tapping away at the F11 key at start up.
2-Scroll down on the page and get> Bootable CD ISO and> ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd-a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. Once created, boot from it. Delete any hdd partitions, create one and format. Next try booting from Recovery Discs again.

    Dear Customer,
Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you.
It looks like you are not able to Boot into the Operating System on your Notebook.
We will surely assist you with this.
Originally the Notebook will have the Recovery Partition and that would give you an option to create a set of Recovery Disk. If you have not created those Recovery Disks when the Notebook was in working condition we cannot do that right now
As of now if you need to recover your Notebook with the new Operating System you can check if the Recovery Partition
is in a working condition or not, If yes you can easily recover/restore your Notebook
    If Recovery Partition is corrupted
You need to call HP Technical Support and request for a set of Recovery Disks , So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
    OR
You need call up Microsoft and purchase an Operating System with the License Key, So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
I strongly recommend you to Contact HP Technical Support over the Phone for further assistance without any delay
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

  • Getting p2pp burn boot check failed.Windows 7 not getting started Recovery restpration completion

                                          PLEASE HELP
Hi,I am trying to do factory recovery of my HP DV6 laptop using original HP recovery disc.My laptop has Windows 7 (64Bit) OS. I am doing below steps
By pressing F10,entering BIOS mode, changed the BOOT ORDER to take from CD ROM and saved the setting with F10 option and then forced shutdown the laptop and inserted the 1st recovery disc
Restarted the laptop and it started to boot and it asked for all 3 recovery disc + Supplement driver disc. All were successfully copied and installed. Laptop was restared multple times as it was being displayed on screen. I could see there were Softwares being installed, Service setting, registry setting being applied to computer and after around 1 to 1.5 hours laptop gets shut down, so i beleive all installations have been [performed.
Now when i start my  laptop, it says
Windows was not shut down properly choose an option and when i seelct either of the 4 options like Satrt normally or Start with command prompt or Start with Networking...everytime it takes me to screen giving belwow message:
    SAVE LOGS        DETAILS      RETRY
In Details logs, i see below as the message
    P2PP BURNBOOT Check failed
    Possible causes:
    1. Yellow-Bang occured at device manager
    2. Some silent-install failure of applications
    3. Found failed at PININST_BBV
    4. Found failed at PININST_BBV2
    5. Found memory Dump file
    Suggestion:
    1. Checking REGDEV_BB.log for drivers
    2. Checking BBApps.log for applications
    3. Checking MEMDUMP_BBV.log for memory dump file
    1. After reading forums queries, I tried to set BIOS default by pressing F9 andf then pressing F10 ,saving and exit and then tried to reinstall everything but i get the same error.
2.I tried changing the system date from March 18th 2015  to March 18th 2012 and then do recovery , but still getting same error
    3. I pressed F2 and did all Memory and Hard disk test and it all passed.
So Can anyone please help me whats the issue. Thanks

    Hi there @VKD1
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your notebook is not starting after a system recovery, with a "Windows was not shutdown properly" error message.
See if you can run the startup repair:

    Hello k877
I am sorry to hear you are having issues reinstalling your operating system. I am providing you with a link here to a document titled Recovery Disk Creation Error Codes (Windows 7). Now document is for creating the recovery disks but the error is showing up in your error log (0xe0ef002f). The error according to the document is the File/directory does not exist. It looks like a function call Deploy() is attempting to access this File/directory and is unable to.
This leads me to think that it is the disks that you are using. It would stand to reason anyways as you state you have tried this on multiple hard drives. A good test would be to check to see if your error in the error log is the same every time. If it is happening at the same point each time then simply order a new set of discs from here.
I hope this resolves your installation issue. Thank you for posting your question on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

If your wifi is switched off, this will happen. Check to see if your wifi switch is on, and if not, try it again.

  • I recently attempted to re-install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro late 2012 model and the internet recovery is failing.

I recently attempted to re-install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro late 2012 model and the internet recovery is failing. I have absolutely no clue what to do here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    - Currently if I boot it up there is a flashing folder icon with a question mark in it. I am assuming this means there is no OS because I wiped the SSD and tried to reinstall Mountain Lion
    - When I hold Command+R, it prompts me to Choose Network... the problem with this is the wifi constantly is disconnecting. The Retina 2012 does not have an ethernet port so i have considered buying the attachment then returning when done.
Once again Thank you in advance.
    Best.

There is nothing to do if you don't have a reliable Internet connection unless you have a copy of the Mountain Lion installer application from when you first installed it.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • HP 2000 notebook Recovery fails after complete install

I purchased the recovery disks for 64 bit Win 8 From HP and after loading the three recovery disks (100%) it asks for the forth disk then says recovery has failed. I have teh .CAB file saved but dont know how to submit this to HP support. The error log saves to the window file structure. The details:Detect some error during PININST_BBV.Check c:\system.sav\logs\burnbootwarn.logor, check c:\system.sav\logs\burnbootmerge.log  How can I get HP support to help me resolve this?

I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with HP tech support last .  Starting with changing the Bios date to 6/1/2006 and then started the recovery (3rd) time.  All look great unitl midnight when i went to bed .  It had loaded and ejected all 4 disks.  THE software installation was running.  This mornig I had a Recovery failed message.  Waiting fo rTech support to call me back (They are late). I can't do a refresh of windows 8 because the recovery has formatted the hard drive and you cannot get to an options screen. We havent reloaded any BIOS settings yet.  I am still waiting for tech support to call Case # 3017584806
