HP 2000 laptop won't restore

Well, less than a week old performance over a day is at a crawl, so I did a virus, malware check and it shows nothing so while it is still alive decided to do a full restore, four hours later only at 26% then pops up a message that the hard drive is corrupted but with Win 8 I have no real way to check, so back it goes and I think I will stick with the old desktop and Win 7.

Thanks for all the tips on trying to determine the problem.
I get 6 flashes on the CAP lock key and then it shut down. Here is what the code chart says.
The BIOS authentication error (Blink code 6) is extremely rare. It is the result of a discrepancy between the BIOS and the hardware that is installed on the computer. This error occurs when the BIOS cannot authenticate signatures from the hardware on the system. The purpose of the BIOS authentication is to be sure that no one has tampered with the BIOS on the computer.
If a BIOS authentication failure occurs, the computer automatically performs a BIOS recovery. If the computer does not automatically recover the BIOS, manually perform a BIOS recovery. To manually perform a BIOS recovery, press all four arrow keys at the same time to cause the BIOS to go to the EFI partition to find and recover the current BIOS.
I tried the fix by hold all 4 arrow keys down on boot up, but no good.
Any other ideas?

I have an HP 2000 that won't power up. When you press the power button, the light on the wireless/F12 button comes on, the the light on the caps lock button comes on and blinks serveral times. after that, the system shuts down. Tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds and retry startup, but no good. The warranty expired 10/25/12.

  • HP laptop won't boot at all

My one and half year old Hp 2000 laptop won't boot at all. When I press the power button, it doesn't show any sign of life at all.
I have tried Hard test several times yet it didn't fix it.
    Battery charges, power adapter working.
I have also tried to boot using the AC adapter alone yet my precious laptop isn't showing any sign of life.
Please how do I fix this? I need to do my assignment and prepare for my exams, and I can't afford a new laptop. Not when the current laptop is pretty new.
    Please help me HP support.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi @Chichiiii ,
    Thank You for your inquiry.
I understand that when you power on your notebook it is unresponsive.  You did state that the AC adapter is working and the battery is charging.

  • My HP Deskjet F4280 printer won't work with my new HP 2000 laptop w/ windows 8.1

I have a HP Deskjet F4280 printer. I recently bought a HP 2000 laptop. I put the printers install disk in the laptop to set up my printer but it says windows 8 doesn't support that printer! It also does say that windows 2000, XP, Vista are supported on the disk for the printer...help! Is there a work around?

    Hey Alyssa426,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Since the installation disk does not support Windows 8.1, I would suggest trying to download, and install the drivers directly from the HP Support website. I have included a link to the 'HP Deskjet F4200/F4224 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver'. Once the software is downloaded, open the software, and follow through the on screen instructions for installation.
Please let me know the outcome of installing the software.
    Thank you.

  • What can I do if my Windows 7 or Windows Vista laptop won't start?

I have joined many forums in my short computer life. This is by far the best forum that I have been a part of. It really up sets me when people come on here and complain before they have even given any of the staff or advisors a chance to help them with their problem. What can I do if my Windows 7 or Vista laptop won't start.
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computer-Troubleshooting/What-can-I-do-if-my-Windows-7-or-Windows-Vista...
This is a great tutorial. Step by step to get your PC up and running and a lot more.Seriosly, if you can't follow this tutorial, you shouldn't have a computer. There will times when this won't work and you will have hardware problems. There are some great people here on the forum that can help you find those problems also. I have tried all these recovery options; they work, and I love my Toshiba laptop. That's why I donate my time to help and that's why others here donate their time. I'm creating this message because I know Google will pick it up. Google picks up every thing

Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.

You can learn how to use the system repair disc here.

These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.

  • Which recovery dvd to get for my HP 2000 laptop with Windows 8

Hello again.  I recently posted re: an HP 2000 laptop that is really bad off.  It appears to be full of viruses, and is missing so much that I cannot even do a refresh.   If I try it states unable to complete, etc. as files missing.  Also, the program 24x7 help seems to have taken over, but if I try to remove it, it states it is no longer there.   Let's just say I may be a newbie at a lot of this, but I have been able to get other machines back to normal, and this no.  Needless to say I contacted HP and it is no longer under warranty.  They stated for 99.00 for I believe 1-2 hours that a tech would help me out over the phone, or for something like 14.99/month I could sign up for tech support.  I just want a restore dvd/thumb drive, and I asked, but NEVER offered.  I really believe I can get this machine working properly again, but will have to look elsewhere for restore media.  Some of you may scoff at this, but I have found numerous HP restore dvd's on Ebay.   The machine has Windows 8 64 bit, but a lot of the HP dvd's I have found are Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.  The HP 2000 does not state anywhere if it has Pro, etc. on it, so will one of these dvd's help me get this thing back to square one?  I realize all personal stuff, etc. will be wiped out, but it is a no go as it sits anyway.  Also, when I have tried to find the drivers on this site for the specific model/product number or this HP 2000 I am trying to fix I get nowhere.  An suggestions there?   Thank you very much in advance for any help/advice.  FYI, I am not going to call HP support again, so I need other options.   Thanks.

Hello Paul.  Thank you for the information.  I must have typed the the model number wrong last time.  I tried again, and got to the page you mentioned.  It does not state anywhere if I can request as a dvd, or thumb drive.  Do you know if there is a way to specify?  I would prefer in thumb drive format myself.  It's $31.00, but if it gets the machine up and running well worth it.  Thanks again!

  • Laptop won't turn on

I was trying to do a secure delete on my Apple, but I couldn't figure out how. So I just started throwing everything in the trash.
Now my laptop won't turn on when I press the power button. Should I get an Apple restore disc?
What should I do? How do I fix this problem???

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
One easy way of secure deleting, or deleting in general (use mostly when delete a large number of files) is to put all the files in one folder (just create a random folder in Finder) > Press Control (ctrl) and click on the folder > Go down to move to Trash (in the popup menu) > Go to Finder > Secure Empty or Empty Trash.
Did you delete the files or did it just shut off? What exactly were you deleting? Languages, fonts; anything like that? You may want to look at Knowledge Base Document #106214 on Troubleshooting Startup Issues. Do you get any sounds or flashes of light (from the "sleep" light)? You may want to try booting up in Safe Mode (Knowledge Base Document #107393 on How to Startup In Safe Mode), or with the install discs.

  • 160GB Won't sync, won't restore.

I have a classic 160 (Late 2009/Running Yosemite/Fully updated everything) I recently had my computer wiped at an Apple Store, dragged my library back from an external hard drive. The iPod was working fine with my old set up (prior to the wipe) and as soon as I plugged it in, iTunes and the iPod got scrambled. Now the iPod is empty and won't synch, it won't restore either. It's fully recognized by iTunes it's running, it's plugged in, it just won't break through and sync the music and get it from the laptop to the device. Very weird.

I downloaded Mac OS. Mavericks and now my laptop won't intall the program it's says disk error and I already open te utility and repaid the disk and still stuck on that intall screen wat can I do

Why did you wipe the drive?
    Were you having problems?
If you were those problem may be related to a failing hard drive and that is why the TM backup could be restored.
In you topic header you say the system won't boot from the SL DVD, But it di for you to wipe the drive. Then it should again boot from the SL DVD.
Insert the DVD and reboot, hold down the Option key and select the Optical drive, SL DVD, as the Boot source.

    Hi Willrobb1,
I understand your computer will not boot up. Restart your computer and keep press F9 to open the "Boot Menu" or "Boot Device Options". Press Enter to continue.
Here is a document on system restore if you need it. You can restore it to a previous point when it was working correctly.

  • Black Screen on HP 2000 Laptop

My HP 2000 laptop (running Windows 8.1, Intel Pentium) goes to a black screen after I log in. The cursor moves, but the screen is blank. I read that others were having the same problem, so I tried to do some troubleshooting. I tried pressing F11 after starting it up and got to the troubleshooting screen, where I tried to do a system refresh. It said "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." Then, I tried doing a system restore but it said "no restore points have been created". When I tried to create one, a dialog box appeared and said "System Protection is only available in online operating system." Lastly, I tried opening task manager from command prompts to see if I could open any programs from there, but every time I try to open a new task, it says "Windows cannot find (insert task here)." I don't want to do a system reset since I've never backed up my hard drive and I'll lose all my files. Is there anything else I can do?
If it helps, this morning before this all started, my laptop had the "Kernel data inpage error message" and shut down. The black screen problem started after that.

  • Laptop won't boot; Black screen w/moveable cursor

    Satellite A305-S6905
Current Situation:  Laptop won’t boot-up; black screen with moveable mouse cursor, HHD indicator actively flashing.
I was attempting to upgrade from Vista to Win7-32bit-Ultimate.  Kept receiving error messages regarding non-compatible files.  Next the computer would not recognize the Multi-Drive (did not appear on the My Computer screen.  Now all I get is the black screen.  How can I restore?

BTW, to reboot this PC (Windows 7), all you need to do is pres ctr+alt+delete at the black screen, and it will do just that. But if you disconnected all usb drives, then you cannot use this shortcut. You need to just shut it down with the power button.

  • Laptop won't wake up after closing lid

The laptop won't wake up after closing the lid. It hasn't happened before. There have been no updates or changes for a day or two. The power button light and the fan are on, the caps lock key is flashing, and the wireless light is orange instead of white, like it is when powered up. I have tried ctrl-alt-del, every fn key, the esc key, the pause key, and every comination of keys that made any sense and many that didn't. I tried disconnecting the power, removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds. I tried leaving the battery out while disconnected from power for 24 hours. I have looked at different forums for clues, but haven't found any help.
My next step will be to remove the hard drive to get the data, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    HI @tootall69
    Thank you for your reply.
You can try this step as it will restore the power schemes back to the defaults.
Here is a link to Troubleshooting sleep and hibernate issues (Windows 7) that may help.
    Next you can try this.
    Go to start run
    Type command prompt
Right click on it and run as administrator
Type  powercfg -restoredefaultschemes and press enter.
You could also do a restore to before this started to happen.   HP Notebook PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore
The next step would be to do a recovery back to factory.
Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7)
During the recovery you will notice the option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.  If you have not already done one, now is a good time.

  • My scrollbar on my mouse pad on my laptop won't work since I downloaded the 4.0 version. I tried what some other people tried but I still can't get it to work. What can I do to fix it?

I just download the 4.0 version and my scroll pad on my laptop won't work. I have to use my arrow keys or the side bar on the side. The scroll pad works with Internet Explorer and anywhere else just not with Firefox's newest version.

This one is easy. The shortcut is for the old iTunes, that is why it won't work.
I assume you are using Windows.
If so, go to the bottom left of your screen and click the start button. Go up to programs and hold your cursor over it. A list of all your programs should pop up to the right. Move the curso over to iTunes. There should be an "about iTunes" and an iTunes logo there. Right click on the iTunes logo and click create shortcut (you can also just drag it out to your desktop). That will give you a desktop shortcut for your new version.
