Hp 2009m, black screen, power button stays on

I have a HP 2009M. Windows Vista 64 bit. 4 yrs old.
I can turn my computer on fine, check email, watch videos, etc. but then the monitor screen will go black. The blue power button stays on. If I turn off, and back on. It will work for like 5-10 min or so, then it will be a black screen.  If I am watching a video when it goes to a black screen, I can still hear it playing.  I do hear a very faint buzzing sound coming from the monitor which I never heard before this happened.  Is it my desktop or do I need a new monitor?
This question was solved.

Hi NSCY,
The quickest way to isolate the problem to the monitor would be, if possible, either: try a different monitor with your PC or try the monitor on a different PC.
Check your graphics and power connections on both the PC and the monitor also.
Your graphics card could also be causing this issue.

  • HT1384 My lock screen/power button on my iPod Touch is broken, and I need some assistance.

As the title suggests, I can not use the lock screen/power button on my iPod Touch, it is broken. I can use Adaptive Touch to turn the screen on and off at will, and also turn my device off. But if I turn it off, I don't know how to get it to turn back on. Could I just plug it into a charger and turn it back on, or would I need to plug it into my computer? Please help, in a few days I won't have access to it for 9 weeks, I need immediate help.

If you power off the iPod, it will turn back on if you connect it to a charger like a wall charger or a computer. I just checked with a charging source to confirm. I knew it did it with a computer.

I have no idea why it stopped working.  But why it failed does not matter.
Take it to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Repair Center and have it assessed and see what it would take to get it working.

  • Iphone black no power button

my iphone 3g power button dont work and i hve a black screen... and no detection at all

Your device may need to be restored as new in iTunes (instead of restored from a back up as it seems that there is a software issue on your phone).
If your phone is not able to connect in iTunes try forcing recovery mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808)
    * power off your phone.
    * Hold the home button while connecting your phone to iTunes.  You should see the connect to iTunes window and your computer should give you the recover mode alert.
*Restore your device as new. Being sure not to restore from a previous back up.
You will then want to sync your information back to your device from Outlook, iCloud, Google or wherever your information is stored.

  • Problems with my Ipad Mini Freezing/black screen/power off randomly

So I got my Ipad Mini about 3 weeks ago, maybe a little longer. I have had the first gen Ipad since it came out and never really had a problem with it. I wanted to the Ipad mini for a long time cause my buddies have it and I have loved it ever since I saw one. I finally got one and it worked great for the first week. I got home and installed all my apps. The usual, Spotify, Skype, Drafts, Sirius XM radio, and some other note-taking and organizational apps. Then everything was going well for the next week and a half just fine. I was listening to Sirius XM Radio on the app and my Ipad died. I looked at the screen and pressed the middle button to try to get the radio to turn back on but it didn't. I tried soft reseting it which didn't work and then I finally hard reset it. That worked, and made me a little nervous, but I thought maybe it was just the app. So I went home and uninstalled it and then re-installed it. Fast forward about another week and a half and I have been having the random shut downs every once in a while and just today I opened the skype App and everything just froze. I got a blue screen just like the Blue Screen of Death that a PC would get, the only difference was there was no error code on the blue screen. It was jsut a solid blue screen. I did a hard reset again and then tried to open another one of my note taking apps because I had pretty important stuff on it. I wanted to copy it down but before I could the Ipad completely froze up again. I hard reset it again and now it won't even get past the black screen with the silver apple logo in the middle.
Is anyone else having this problem? is there any way to fix it? Does anyone have any idea why my Ipad mini is acting like this? I mean this is kind of ridiculous. I am extremely frustrated and dissapointed with how my Ipad mini is performing.

    Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Black MacBook power button?

    Hi
I have a situation with a black macbook. I Describe it step by step to see if anyone can help me with a diagnosis.
First of all I want to specify that I consider myself an intermediate user, since I work in consulting and training on the Mac, but 70% software and 30% focused on hardware and the problem that I face now is hardware.
It is a 2006 black Macbook which HD died.
    - I changed the hard drive.
    - Until then, the power button always worked.
    - When attempting to install the system, I realize that the installer does not detect the hard drive attached, so I figured It was misplaced.
    - When tried to reinstall it, I realized that one of the rail that leads the hard disk had come loose and prevented the disk to properly get docked.
    - I disassembled the Mac to fix that.
    - I make the correction (I've dismantled several that model several times )
    - At the end I power it up, and nothing ....
    - The MagSafe connector is delivering power. I dismantled it again and check that it was well armed ... Everything is fine, but it will not start ..
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance ..

    sorry for the repeats

  • Replaced screen power button and lcd not working

I just replaced the lcd/digitizer on my ipod touch 4.  The lcd turns on only if plugged to charge from a dead battery, otherwise, I can't get it to turn on at all.  I can't reset it either, as the power button doesn't work.  More than 1 problem,  I'm sure.Any thoughts?  Itunes doesn't see it either.  I have made sure the connections are good.

Very likely you damaged something when replacing the screen.
    - Try taking it a part and verifying that everything is correct.
    - Take it to someone with more experience.

  • Black screen, power light malfunction.

So this is first time this has happened. I went and opened my older model black MacBook and the screen was black. However I knew it was working because I could hear the volume toggles move as I pressed them. However the brightness keys did nothing. Also the power indicator is off. I noticed that when I shut the the lid the power light turns white and if I open the lid I get a good 3 seconds of the screen to work.
Anybody have an idea to what's happening?

Okay, here are the complete specs for your Mac:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-duo-2.16-20-inch-sp ecs.html
It came originally with 2 x 512 MB RAM (total of 1 GB). Your hard drive is 250 GB (you said 1 GB). So how much RAM ( how much and which brand) did you add? Memory can still be a problem - it can become defective. So, that would be my first guess; another is your hard drive failing. There are few troubleshooting methods or tests if it will not even boot.
If you're able, try some of these:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1587
And the Apple hardware test (run the extended test and you'll need your install disk):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
If you can't perform any of the above, make sure you write down everything that has happened exactly so you can tell them (including unplugging it several times which can cause problems all by itself) before making an appointment at your nearest Genius bar.

  • Firefox actualized the new version, but it looks only a black screen and no watch buttons and scroll bars, nothing

The new version of Firefox dosen't work is only a black screen without buttons and scroll bars. I try re install and uninstall and erase files, but dosen't work.

Sorry, please disable hardware acceleration as a temporary workaround. This is an incompatibility between Firefox 33 and some older graphics card/chipset drivers. More info: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025438

  • Windows 8 HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx Upgrade results in black screen after intallation finalizes.

I have a 2011 HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx with Windows 7 64 bit Home premium installed.  The notebook/laptop has a AMD Radeon HD 6300M series display adapter with driver version 9.2.2.0 dated 9/27/2012 and an ATI technologies Intel HD Graphics display adapter with driver version 8.7771.1.0.  The notebook/laptop has not had a hardware upgrade and contiains the orignal factory OS. BIOS is current to latest available.
The issue I had while upgrading to Windows 8 is after the install finalizes (settings and preferences are entered) and the system boots to the tiles screen, the display works fine.  Clicking to the desktop works only for a few moments before the screen goes dark. Pressing the power button and/or closing/opening the lid results in at times a black screen (no power to the screen) or black screen (power to the screen) or a black screen where only the mouse pointer is visible and moves around the screen.  Restarting the computer results in a repeat of the issue at times while other times it will boot directly to what appears to be the windows desktop. You can interact with the file folder icon on the task bar as well as internet explorer, and you can get the charms bar and tile screen. Any attempt to open computer management or any control panel or task manager will open the window as an icon on the task bar.  You can mouseover the icon to "preview" a small version of the window but you can not click on it to maximize.
    I attempted the following workarounds:
    1) Clean install of Windows 8: Installs but fails with same result as above
Refresh PC from windows 8 rescue media: Works slightly longer until AMD driver fails and then reverts to situation above.
    2) Uninstalling all display adapters (via computer management) and then upgrading to Windows 8: Results in microsoft drivers getting installed, works much as refresh above until AMD driver fails and then reverts to above situation.
    3) In Scenarios 1 and 2,  I also tried to use windows update within Win8 to update the drivers there are updated MS drivers available ,(dated as late as 10/27/2012) but intalling those drivers also resulted in a failure of the adapter within a short period of time as did NOT updating the drivers.
    4) Disabling display adapters and then restarting:  Results in a BSOD (Blue Screen) IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop: 0x0000000A error during boot as the OS runs into trouble with the driver before Windows 7 boots.  This happens if one or both drivers are disabled.
    5) Disabling display adapters before in-place upgrade to Windows 8 results in the Windows 8 equivalent of a BSOD and results in the system shutting down and then reverting to Windows 7.
Through research, I determined some ppl had luck connecting another monitor/HD TV through VGA/HDMI and then using the function-screen button to switch, with my system this resulted in the same issue displayed on the TV/Monitor. There are also updates to ATI and Catalyst center available including drivers and installing these do not remedy the issue. Intel was checked and there are no drivers available as HP uses a "custom" driver for intel.  Attempting to install any of these Intel drivers will result in a fail with a compatiblity error.
Windows 8 has no safe mode ability from the windows 8 rescue media disk, you cannot F-8 as you could in the preview. Safe mode must be reached via charms, settings, startup and then selecting safe mode as a boot option, which is not available as the display adapter malfunctions.  In those scenarios where I was able to get a windows desktop to boot up as in the first paragaph I can get to the restart settings via charms, but clicking to bring up the restart menu requires another window to open which is only visible as a "preview" on the windows task bar.
if you are going to attempt to try any of these,
    1) Use a third party software to image your pre-win 8 upgrade system that you can boot into from USB or CD;
    2) Before starting the process, disable the UAC prompt and remove any passwords from logon, as those things will require you to interact with the OS and you will not be able to do this when the adapters fail.  The screen will shadow out as it usually does but the prompt will not be viewable.
    3) Create an ISO image of the Win8 install media and write down the product key. If you are able to get a successful boot, before the drivers fail, create a Windows 8 rescue media disk.
I spoke with HP tech support this morning (10/29/2012) they are aware of the issues and they lie with the display adapters.  They are working toward a solutuion but there are none available at this time and no date when they will be available.  They recommend checking the support website and having the web page autoscan your PC as the drivers will show there when they are posted and they will be installable from Windows 7 so there will be no issue with upgrading to Windows 8.  Bottom line, do not upgrade to Windows 8 at this time.
MS Tech support escalation tier reps also informed me there is no present workaround available.
Hope this helps and saves somebody some time!
    JJ

My laptop sat at BestBuy from Friday night until today (10-31-12)! They couldn't figure out how to fix the problem so I finally told them to revert my latop back to Windows 7! I hope HP reads these and will hurry up and make the updates needed so that I can run Windows 8 on my Laptop! I just bought mine in July of last year there is nothing wrong with it and after dropping about $1200.00 for my dv7-4285dx along with the Best Buy Geek Squad package I do not feel like having to drop more money into another laptop!! PLEASE HURRY AND FIX THIS I DIDN"T DROP $69.99 plus tx to not be able to use Windows 8! Even before I did the upgrade I had the GEEk Squad check to make sure I could make the upgrade and was told this laptop well surpasses the required minium to run Windows 8!!!!!!

  • Black Screen on Start up - Sometimes boots- satellite A215-S5849 A215 S5849 A215S5849

I have had an intermittent issue with this satellite A215-S5849 of randomly turning itself off in the middle of tasks. Usually it is easily remedied by simply holding down the power button until off, then turning back off. Sometimes it has required me to removed the battery and AC adapter, then reinsert, then plug back in, then restart.
Recently, since I haven't been using it as much, often when I attempt to power it up all I get is a black screen. The power light comes on, the battery light comes on, the satellite logo lights up. If I have a DVD-rom in there you can hear it attempting to boot. Occasionally you will hear the hard drive attempting to boot and see the harddive light turn on.
It would not start again a couple days ago so I left the battery out and unplugged for a couple of days and was able to get it to power on and attempt to update the bios, per the supports recommendation. It did the random immediate shut down thing again and now it is back to the above black screen, power, and battery light. DVD-rom will spin and light, I don't see a hardrive light, satellite logo is lilt.
ANY ideas? From what I have read this is apparently a problem that is running pretty rampant with these systems and I very much need help correcting this issue.
    Thank you for your time.
    NurseBrittney

It seems that this problem is with the power settings... strangely. You do not need to re-install windows or anything crazy like that.
    Here are the fix steps:
    1. Turn off your computer
    2. Disconnect every wire from it (including power)
    3. Disconnect the battery from the bottom of the computer. There will be two tabs labeled 1 and 2.
    4. Re-plug in the power wire. (the battery should not be in the computer)
    5. Turn on the power. The screen will work. Choose start windows normally. (if you get that screen)
    6. Go to Control Panel -> (Mobile PC) -> Power Options -> Under Balanced choose change plan settings
    7. Choose Change advanced power settings
    8. Find Processor power management and change the minimum processor state from 5% to 100% for each On battery and Plugged in.
    9. Click Apply then OK
    10. Shut down you computer.
    11. Disconnect the power cord.
    12. Re-install the battery on the bottom of the laptop, plug in the power cord, and restart the computer.
     This should work.

  • Upon Bootcamp Installation Computer Boots to Black Screen

    Hello,
I have just created a Windows 7 installation USB device. After the Bootcamp Utility partitions my HD for Windows the Macbook Pro reboots and goes to a black screen where it stays indefinitely. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Here is what I have tried so far:
-Manually choose the Bootcamp Partition to be the startup device (the drive is not an option when holding the "Option" key upon reboot)
-Used BootCHAMP to force it to boot into either the Partition or the USB device (both just went to black screen)
    Also note:
-The Bootcamp Partition is visible in both finder and Disk Utility.

Edit: After some searching. I believe this is a graphics driver error. Anyone know how to solve an issue like that?

My iphone 4 has a black screen and gets warm when charging. also, the battery runs out unusually fast.  I can still receive calls etc and can see a 'backlight' come on behind the black screen when buttons are pressed, but I can not see anything on the screen. I have tried restoring the phone from recovery mode in iTunes but this does not fix the problem. If it were the screen that needs replacing then would the phone get warm?
    thanks for your help

Look in the dock and see if you can see any scaly blue-ish stuff. Look in the headphone jack under bright light - can you see anything pink?
Take it to an Apple store. They can help you with a repair. If you take it anywhere else, Apple will not repair your phone if anything goes wrong.
