  • Screen brightness is set at 100% at startup

    Hi,
I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now I've noticed that the OS always sets the screen brightness back at 100% after the startup. I would like to have this setting around 50% and I would like to have it remembered. Now I always need to open the Preferences and do it manually. This wasn't the case in 10.5 ?!

    Hi Danielle,
Have you tried resetting PRAM? This link will show you how....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
After you have done this, your screen brightness will be at it's maximum. Reduce it to the brightness that you want & then restart & see if that brightness setting has been retained.

  • External monitor resolution setting is not saved

I use an external monitor as an extended desktop for my macbook pro.
The problem is that whenever I turn on the mbp, the resolution of the external monitor reverts back to the default resolution. Is there any way to set the resolution of the external monitor and have the mbp save it even after turning the mbp on and off?

    Hello all,
After installing the 10.5.2 update, my Macbook Pro's boot time increased. So, after researching this issue, I decided to reset the PRAM. This solved the boot time problem, as my Mac now boots as quickly as it did prior to the update. But now, the brightness setting is not saved and the brightness level returns to the maximum value each boot up. Other settings, like audio level, are saved properly. The brightness seems to be the only problem. Any ideas on how to correct this?
    Thanks,
    Anthony
Besides staying with 10.5.1 has anyone found a real solution to this? I want to install Aperture and I need to have 10.5.2 installed in order to instal Aperture v2.x.
    Thanks!

  • HP 2159m Monitor

I have dual HP 2159m monitors. Somehow my second monitor has become an analog monitor in its settings and I don't know how to covert it back to an HP 2159m in the settings. I have right-clicked on the monitor, set it as an HP 2159m monitor, but it reverts back to analog as soon as I click 'ok'.

    Hi,
Be sure to have only one active input to the monitor.
Select the Menu button on the lower right edge then toggle down to Source Control then Default Source. Select your preferred default and be sure to save when you exit.

  • The 'Monitor Size' setting could do with an update

This isn't the most important issue in the world, but I did notice that the 'Monitor Size' setting in Frame 11 (Edit > Preferences > Global > General > Monitor Size) hasn't changed for years.
It's used so that when you have your screen set to 100% zoom, it matches the real paper world in size.
But - it just has a drop-down for 'diagonal width" monitor size which assumes a 4:3 aspect ratio (as per old CRT monitors) and only goes up to 22".  I'm currently typing on a 23" 'widescreen' (16:9) monitor so I don't think that diagonal width drop-down is going to do much useful for me

I presume this setting wasn't fixed in FM12, and still assumes a quaint single-screen 4:3 aspect ratio.
Back when computers were slower, and I was doing a lot of work with relatively high res TIFFs, I figured out that if I set Monitor Size and zoom levels carefully, I could get specific zoom levels to render raster images at exact integer multiples or fractions of the video card's frame buffer raster dimensions. I found that this made a huge difference in display & refresh performance. At 1:1, doing so apparently eliminated resampling of the image data entirely. At integer 1:N or N:1, it apparently minimized the computation required, and minimized artifacts.
This sort of consideration is less important today, but it would be nice to get the parameter fixed, or at least publish a FAQ on how to game the 4:3 assumption for 16:9, 16:10 and 21:9 monitors, as well as arbitrary multi-monitor configurations.

  • NB100 - How set the screen brightness?

    Hi all.
Just bought an NB100 - overall very very pleased with it. Well built, good screen and very compact etc.
Got a couple of questions? The screen brightness is controlled by Fn+F9/F10. I like to have it set to "halfway" or less - partly to preserve battery - but also because I find max brightness is actually TOO bright for me! But on reboot the machine seems to always start at maximum again. Is there any way round this? Does it perhaps need a firmware update (my machine seems to be running version 1.90 which I believe is the latest)?
I noticed other threads mentioning Fn + F8 as a means of selecting Bluetooth/Wlan etc? Mine seems to just control the fan setting and processor speed - The "grey" fan setting gives 1.6ghz and the fan comes on - whereas Fn+F8 toggles a "white" fan icon - where the processor throttles down to 800/900 ish and the fan slows/stops(?). [in passing I've noticed some videos become "jerky" if the lower setting is chosen]
I'm not 100% sure what Fn+ "pipe" key does (to the left of F1)? The Fn+F1 switches on wireless/wifi I know - but the "pipe" key seems to be a Wlan symbol (or is that the key to use for Bluetooth or GPS or whatever)? Sorry to sound so ignorant - but the user guide doesnt go into that much detail. I'm fairly sure the machine I bought - which was a Toshiba Refurbished/Reconditioned NB100 - model PLL10E - hasnt got any BT/GPS etc - just the basic wifi which F1 switches on and off.
Final comment - and others have said this - the key tops are very difficult to see in low light!! The "grey" colour was definitely a design mistake! But I can live with it - either a usb light? or some stickon (white) letters?
    Regards to all.

hi, i think the best way to set brightness is in options of energy properties accessible in system tray icon. I know about bt and wlan activation, it seem that bt and wlan dispositives are on the same circuit on/off, so not indipendents. Nb100 is a good inexspansive machine :)

  • Monitoring/Alerting Set up options in SM - System Monitoring

    Comrades
When configuring Solution monitoring in SM 4.0 for our lanscape the customised CCMS monitor set (created in RZ20 of Target Sysem) needs to be imported during set-up system monitoring process
1.Is it possible to import the customised CCMS context in solution monitoring during set up?
2.In the current system monitoring configuration certain DB related monitors are not visible (displayed) though they are configured properly is something to be done ?
Also looking on the following alerting options E-mail,SMS and SNMP Traps from the SM 4.0.My understanding is E-mail and SMS are based on Central autoreaction methods on the Alert Monitor.
3.Is it possible to configure E-mail and SMS without CCMS Agents on Target Systems ? and Is there a way of configuring  E-mail and SMS other than Central Auto Reaction Methods ?
4.Are there any prerequistes (Agents, Software, packages ) for configuring SNMP Traps from SM ?
I have done some reading and searching on these points and pretty unclear on these aspects.Kindly share your knowledge on this area.
    Kindly Respond
    Many a Thanks

I managed to set up an account manually on the C7 but I had to trick the email application by entering an invalid email address and password. After it could not find my account it then opened up all the settings and permitted me to add the manual IMAP settings, reply to address and other details. After I committed the settings, the phone recognised the account as a gmail account and it locked down all the settings again so I could not go back and change them if wrong.
I was quite chuffed with myself for seemingly resolving all my issues.....but on using the new account settings I could not sync the gmail sent / bin folders. All the other folders synchronised fine and when I send email it has the correct reply to address. Strangely this matches the best results I obtained when connecting using the Mail for Exchange settings so am no further forward. I am a little confused by this as when I let the phone set up the Gmail account on it's own it can sync everything.....but I just can't
I am now hoping that the new software update (PR1.2) gets email working a little better....well when I eventually get it hehe.

  • Brightness and contrast buttons on monitor is not working

I have a lenovo 3000H series desktop. Suddenly the brightness and contrast button on the monitor has stopped working. Please help.

Yes, I did restore it twice plugging it on the computer and using itunes and the hold/sleep/power off button wont still respond.
No matter how long I push it, it won't do anything so the screen or device won't shut off.
    Everything else is working fine.

  • Color Correcting Monitor on Set

Not quite a FCP question, but...
We have a monitor on set that is used as part of the background. Of course it comes up blue on camera. I've tried adding various amounts of a red overlay to my projects, but I still can't seem to get it right. I know there's no magic formula, but does anyone have a suggestion of how much of what color to use that would at least get me in the ballpark?

Your monitor is white-balanced for a color temp of approx. 5600K (Daylight)and your studio lighting is most probably running at 3200K ("Tungsten"). While "CTO" gels can be put in front of the monitor screen to color-correct for the difference in color temp., your other options are to re-balance the colorimetry of the monitor (tricky at-best if there isn't a menu selection to do so), or to light your studio with 5600K lighting fixtures (either Compact fluorescent or "HMI"(Very expensive to rent HMI fixtures). I'm an engineer in the television broadcast world, and I've been dealing with this problem quite regularly over the years. Your own eyes can correct for color temp. differences, but a video camera's imaging sensors have to do it electronically.

  • My monitor seems to be losing brightness.

My iMac monitor seems to be losing brightness on the left half of the screen. Is the monitor going out? I've only had it a year...and where can I get it fixed?

I concur with LousyFool, it sounds like a bad backlight and the display need to be service or replaced.

  • The Best Brightness and contrast for my monitor

I have an acer monitor AL2016W. I managed to get it too work but the screen is too bright. What is the best brightness and contrast for it? I have a resolution of 1850 x 1250, can I safely change that on my mac mini? Thank you for yuor help.

If you are using windows 8 - go to the start screen and just start typing Power.
When you start typing in, "Just Type" kicks in and starts searching for what you are typing, The default is to look for applications, but the power options you need are under settings.
So Click on Settings, and you'll see power options on the left.
Click Power Options and once you get to there, you should see a slider on the bottom of the window to change the brightness, I added a screen shot for you.
    good luck

I am running a 64 bit version of Photoshop from the CS6 Masters Collection
I am on a PC with a Intel i7 1366 4 physical cores and 8 threads, 24 Gig of DDR memory, A Crucial 512 Gig SSD and a NVIDIA GTX 570 with 2 Gig of memory.
The document size is 2100 by 1500 Pixels at 300 PPI   only two layers

  • IMac auto-sets to medium brightness

I'm having this problem where every time I turn on the Mac, the screen is set at medium (7 I think) brightness. I don't know what could have caused this.
I remember before upgrading to 10.6.3 there was a problem where it would auto-set at maximum brightness unless setting it level 1 (2?) brightness. This seems like a similar situation but I haven't tested the "fix" this time 'round.
    Any ideas?

FC/e supports only a few 'standards': DV (as from miniDV cams), HDV (from miniDV devices), AVCHD (from most devices) and with a little trick, described on my website AVCHD-light (720p, as from many compact-stills) ..
    done.
some Flips are supported by iMovie, which you can abuse as a converter tool.
but 'non video standard' (=read 'video' as 'in TV') formats, resolutions and codecs ...
    a) manual conversion = less convenient
    b) loss of 'quality', e.g. when you blow-up tiny 480x320/15fps into video..
FC/e is FC/pros lil' brother.. meant for a more.. adult workflow..
if you like to wrestle with multi-formats, stay with Windows/Magix/..

MacOs=convenience, with a chance of getting restricted

  • Mixer window won't stay put w multiple monitors/screen sets

so i have 4 monitors, 3 of which are together and 1 off in another area for other stuff. this is done w 2 standard apple video (Nvivia GT120) cards and a few monitors. the middle one has a higher res than the others but not so much to need the dual dvi.
i want to display the mixer window across all 3 of my main monitors for a full overview in that particular screenset.
the PROBLEM here is that as soon as i switch to another screenset or even select that same screen set while viewing it, the mixer window snaps to allignment w the center monitor so that the left monitor has nothing on it and the right half of the mixer window has fallen off the right screen.
it works just fine when i only spread the mixer across two monitors. but even then sometimes it alligns to the center monitor after while.
is there some setting im missing here?
    thanks!
