HP 2311 gt monitor no longer plays blu rays.

My operating system is Windows 7 64 bit. The monitor came with softwear for playing 3D blu ray videos and movies. There is no error message it just does not play. Nothing happens at all.  It worked when I installed it and now for no reason that I can think of it will no longer play Blu ray movies 3D or otherwise. It came with power DVD 10 which worked fine when I installed it but now will only play DVDs. I searched on the forums and it seems a lot of people are having problems like mine with their power DVD softwear not playing Blu Rays any longer. ONe person posted that they got a solution from HP which cleared up the problem. I hope so because Cyber link which makes the Power DVD softwear has not been able to come up with a solution. Please help. I now have a 3D monitor that is worthless because it does not do what it is supposed to do.  I spent a lot of money on 3D blu rays so I could watch them and it is not happening. I also have a envy 3D with the same softwear and it works. But I prefer wathcin on hte larger monitor with better sound system.
Don't ask me what I did before it stopped working because I didn't do any thing!!!

Hi,
First try this Cyberlink BD and 3D Advisor tool.   Check both BD and 3D.  Are you good to go?
Try a non-3D Blue-Ray that worked in the past.
Run the Cyberlink BD Advisor.  It's under the Start button-->Progams---> Cyberlink    You may need to update the AACS tables.
If you installed other Blu-Ray software, then you might have to uninstall that software to get Cyberlink to work again.

  • Blu-ray optical drive no longer plays Blu-ray discs. Will play all other discs

I have a HP Pavilion Elite hpe-510y desktop pc. HP product # bv538aa#aba.  Optical drive has stopped playing and recognizing Blu-ray discs. All other discs play fine. I didn't notice this problem for awhile because I don't always play Blu-ray discs on my PC. I don't know if their was an update or if the optical drive has just gone bad. I am not sure if its a hardware or software problem. Has anyone else had this problem with this model. Would appreciate any help you can give me in this matter. Thank You. Dennis

    Dennis, welcome to the forum.
I suggest uninstalling the drive.  You can do this by going into Control Panel / Device Manager / DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Right click on your drive and select "Uninstall".  Then, reboot the computer.  Windows will indentify it and reinstall it.

  • TouchSmart IQ816 can no longer play Blu Ray discs

For the last 5 months or so my TouchSmart has not been able to play my blu ray movies. I was told that this was a problem with an update of the MediaSmart DVD program. I had this same issue on my HDX18; I uninstalled MediaSmart DVD and reinstalled it to roll back the version. However, this did not work with my TouchSmart, and subsequent updates have not remedied this issue. It can still play DVDs and CDs just fine, but it no longer picks up blu ray discs. I have read various forums, and many people have had this same issue, some even resorting to a factory reset; I cannot afford to do that. I have heard that it is an underlying problem with the Cyberlink software that runs beneath the MediaSmart software, and even cases of HP support telling customers that they should BUY the updated Cyberlink software. When I purchase a computer , I am not expecting to pay extra for features that should have come built in. I have an Optiarc BD DRV BC-5600S.

    Rob,
Not sure which OS you are running, but there is an updated version of the player software for Win7 that might make a difference...

Otherwise, you could try uninstalling the application, and reinstalling it from application recovery.

  • HP desktop computer can not play Blu-ray DVDs. Who is responsible for this?

In 2010, I blought an HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer (running Windows 7). This computer was advertised as having a Blu-ray DVD player, as well as players for regular DVDs and CDs. All these years, I've been successfully playing regular DVDs and CDs. Until now, I have not attempted to play a Blu-ray DVD.
I recently rented the "Divergent" Blu-ray DVD (as well as the "Divergent" regular DVD) from my local library. When I tried to play the Blu-ray DVD, the HP MediaSmart software and the Windows Media Player detected the Blu-ray but were not able to play the Blu-ray.
I then downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html    This Codec Pack was supposed to help Windows Media Player play the Blu-ray. That did not work. When I got rid of the Codec Pack using System Restore, HP MediaSmart and Windows Media Player became unable to detect the Blu-ray in the Blu-ray drive. After another System Restore, HP MediaSmart and Windows Media Player were once again able to detect the Blu-ray (but were still unable to play the Blu-ray).
I then downloaded Cyberlink PowerDVD 14, which played the Blu-ray for only about 7 seconds before crashing. I then got rid of Cyberlink PowerDVD 14 with a System Restore.
I downloaded TotalMedia Theatre version 6.0.1.123. However, this software did not detect the Blu-ray. I then got rid of TotalMedia Theatre with a System Restore. After that, I was not able to play ANYTHING, including CDs and regular DVDs. CDs and regular DVDs were not being detected by playing software. After another System Restore, I was once again able to play CDs and regular DVDs. However, I do not want to risk trying to play the Blu-ray again.
So, what's going on here? HP advertised this computer as having a Blu-ray DVD player. Wasn't HP responsible for providing software that could play Blu-ray DVDs? And why is the Blu-ray DVD, sometimes detected, and sometimes not detected, by playing software? Is there some kind of hardware issue?
Who is responsible for the fact that my computer can not play Blu-ray DVDs? HP, for bad playing software and/or bad hardware? Or is there something in the Windows 7 operating system that prevents the playing of Blu-ray DVDs? Is Microsoft responsible?
    Thanks for any information.

You're not going to get any help from HP or Microsoft on a 4 year old computer.   Maybe your optical drive is no longer able to play Bluray discs.  Windows 7 Media Center with Bluray playback was not included in all versions of Windows 7.  Each computer with Bluray has an individual license; yours may have expired after not using it for 4 years.  Best advice - don't flog a dead horse.  Just get regular DVDs.

  • Play Blu-Ray on Mac Mini?

Has anyone tried playing Blu-Ray DVDs on a Mini?
I have a 2GHz C2D Mini with 1GB RAM and a 1TB FW external drive which feeds HDMI to my LCD TV and surround sound to my audio system.
A Blu-Ray player is around $400 but for only $200 more we can get an external FW Blu-Ray drive and be able to burn Blu-Ray DVDs as well! Or for $900 a replacement slot-loading Blu-Ray SuperDrive!
Has anyone played hi-def movies through a Mac Mini? How well does it work?

    Thanks.
I want to minimize the number of components in my entertainment system and use the Mini for as much as possible. I have 100+ MP4 movies on a 1TB external drive and the Mini is connected with DVI-to-HDMI adapter to 52" Sony LCD, with audio to surround-sound setup. So I believe I do have HDCP-compliant monitor.
But how do you get hi-def movies into the Mini? At present I enjoy HD content through DirecTV, but iTunes provides HD content only to AppleTV.
    Ideas?

  • Best Way to Play Blu-ray disc/Blu-ray ISO on Windows 8

Nowadays, almost any computer can play DVD movies as long as there is a DVD drive provided, whatever it's a PC or Mac, homemade DVD or commercial DVD. But what about Blu-ray movies? Could your Windows 8 PC play this high definition movie formats without fuss? How to play Blu-ray on PC with Windows 8 system? This article will tell you the best way for playing/watch Blu-ray discs or Blu-ray ISO Files on Windows 8.
In order to watch Blu-ray discs or BD ISO on Windows 8, you must have three things: 1) a Blu-ray disc drive, 2) a Blu-ray movie, and 3) Blu-ray Player Software(Need decrypting Blu-ray function). It is this third one – software – that causes the majority of problems for Blu-ray users. The free player like Windows Media Player, VLC Player, etc don't have Blu-ray decrypting function and not support playing Blu-ray movies. So this Blu-ray Player for Windows 8 from UFUSoft will be the best solution for you.
Follow the following steps to Play Blu-ray discs or Blu-ray ISO movie and media file on Windows 8:
Step 1: Connect the Blu-ray driver to your Windows 8 PC via a USB connection. The USB of the driver should be above 2.0.
Step 2: Free Download the Windows 8 Blu-ray Disc/Blu-ray ISO Player and then install it.
Step 3: Insert your Blu-ray disc into the Blu-ray driver. Next, open your Blu-ray movie by just pressing the “Open Disc” in the main interface to select Blu-ray drive and then click "OK" button to load the Blu-ray directly. You can now enjoy your Blu-ray movies on Windows 8 PC.
Another option is to load Blu-ray folder, you can click "Open File" button to directly select the Blu-ray folder and click "OK" button, now you can watch the Blu-ray movie on Windows 8 PC.
Step 4: Stop the playing the Blu-ray movie on Windows 8. If you want to stop playing the Blu-ray disc, you only need click Stop Button and eject the Blu-ray movie.
    Tips:
    1. When you want to play the Blu-ray ISO image file, you need to load Blu-ray ISO image file to the virtual drive firstly, the open method is the same with loading Blu-ray disc.
    2. While the video is playing, click the "Snapshot" button to take a picture from a video. Click Open Snapshot Folder to find the captured picture. You can choose the snapshot format and the snapshot folder in the Preference window. And also you can choose the image format like JPEG, PNG, BMP.
    3. When playing Blu-ray disc, you are allowed to choose the specific title/chapter in the "Controls > Title/Chapter" column to play.
Hope this way could help you have no problem to enjoy Blu-ray disc and Blu-ray ISO files on Windows 8, more info please enter: Play Blu-ray disc/Blu-ray ISO on Windows 8 PC.

I am sorry to say that you cannot play Blu-ray movies on any Mac. Whether any of us agree or disagree with this, it is the way of things currently. One can rip Blu-ray movies to a Mac, and play them without menus or extras, but this is illegal and it is a violation of the terms of use of these forums to discuss.

  • Can I play blu-ray discs on a PowerMac G5?

If I install an internal Blu-Ray/dvd optical drive on my PowerMac G5, can I play blu ray discs without hacking the code.

    As Klaus1 said,
No I would not recomend you try to watch Blu Ray films on a G5 as the combo of Video and CPU hardware even in the fastest G5 does not the 'grunt' to decode and play Blu Ray films, also ALL internal Blu Ray drives are SATA so unless your G5 has SATA hard drive/ DVD controlers on board you need a plug in PCI card.
However if all you want to do is to be able to read/write Blu Ray data discs then as long as you have a SATA connecter free the G5 will be able to handle that - prob will not be able to multi-task at the same time !

  • Unable to play Blu-Ray or DVD through MediaSmart on HDX 18

My drive has the Blu-Ray symbol on it, so I know it's supposed to have Blu-Ray capabilities, but every time I put a Blu-Ray OR DVD in, MediaSmart DVD pops up and says "No disc loaded in drive." However, I am able to run DVDs through Windows Media Player. So, what's wrong with my MediaSmart? Is there another way to play Blu-Rays?

I have been having this problem for close to 10 months (since I bought my HP laptop). I didn't care initially because I could use other players to play regular DVDs and CDs. I was in a fix when I tried to watch my first movie in Blu Ray disc. I tried multiple installs and re-installs but couldn't get it to work. I however got to a point where it would say the "Disc is ready, hit the play button", but when I hit the play button it just flashed the screen (adjusting screen display) for a second and then did nothing. I finally called HP support and they walked me through regular install and install as per their process. When the initial instructions didn't work, I on my own did two things while on call.
    1. I first Un-installed my antivirus software, just to make sure it doesn't interfere with any of the other activities being instructed by the support staff since they were related to drivers.
    2. I had a Divx player and converter installed in my machine. Just on random thought of driver conflicts I went ahead and un-installed all the Divx related software. It asked me for a restart and bingo. When the machine rebooted, HP mediasmart DVD was able to play the Blu Ray disc.
I don't know which of the un-installs did it. My guess is it probably was Divx or a combination of both. I then asked HP support to stop going through rest of the process. He advised me to update the BIOS and software for fingerprint device which I did and it solved another problem for me. I saw the whole movie without too many issues. Once issue I found was when I paused the play using keyboard and resumed the sound went away. I then had to close and restart the movie. Based on above experience, I would advice anyone else having same problems to first un-install all the free DVD/CD/Blu Ray player software from the machine, then proceed with un-installing antivirus (if necessary at all. You can install it back again). I haven't tried re-running the blu ray disc after re-installing the anitvirus. I will re-post any problem here if I find any issue. That would also nail down the culprit.
Hope this helps so some of you.

  • HP MediaSmart DVD won't play Blu-Ray's

I'm hoping someone can help me out in trying to figure out why my HP HDX 18 won't play Blu-Ray movies using HP MediaSmart.
When I pop a Blu-Ray in the optical, HP MediaSmart starts up and it looks like it's going to the play the movie however, it proceeds to ask me if I want to "activate" the app. I click YES thinking it's the first time I've used it so I guess I need to activate it.....however, it then pulls up a browser that directs me to download a patch from CyberLink.
I download and attempt to install the patch however it tells me that MediaSmart is currently installed and the patch requests to uninstall the previous version.
I agree to do so and after a few seconds, it comes up with an error message (error!! the product definition file lost).
I retry MediaSmart thinking this time I'll press NO, I don't want to activate and when I do this, nothing happens at all.
When I open My Computer, I can see the Transformers Blu-Ray in the drive and can right click and Explore the Blu-Ray as well so I know the drive is seeing it.
I called HP support and while the guy was nice enough, he was at a complete loss in trying to figure out why my Blu-Ray player would not play any movies. He tried multiple steps from going to the MSCONFIG and disabling all programs at Start Up, disabling Windows Installer (not sure why he wanted to try this step), to trying to recover the program from the partition itself. Nothing worked.
His final resolution was to perform a complete system recovery which I balked at as I have multiple programs installed (that would have to be reinstalled) and don't feel it necessary to perform a system recovery to "fix" my Blu-Ray issue.
And just to clarify, yes...my optical drive is indeed Blu-Ray optical drive.
Any advise or direction anyone can point me in would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.

Original Toshiba recovery image contains two players. One is for DVDs (Toshiba DVD player) and player for BR discs (WinDVD BD for Toshiba). You cannot use some WinDVD player for playing BR discs.
