HP 2311x Monitor

I've had this monitor for a while and was never able to get the full size of 23" to display, black border all arond. Using HDMI connection, tried to disable "overscan" as suggested on HP website troubleshooting guide but does not give me the option as suggested.

  • How to get audio for HP 2311x monitor to work??

I connected my HP Folio 13 laptop to my HP 2311x monitor through HDMI. However, I don't get any sound from my laptop's speakers (the monitor doesnt have internal speakers).
How can I get the audio to work?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
Since the monitor does not have speakers, no point to enable HDMI sound, please disable it:
    (a) Right click the speakers icon,
    (b) Open Playback Devices,
    (c) Right click and Disable HDMI sound:

  • HP 2311x monitor not seen by OSX unless the monitor is off/has no power

I have hooked my Macbook pro up to TV's in the past without issue, I'm now trying to hook it to my HP 2311x monitor.  When the monitor goes to sleep, or I unplug the power the Mac screen will flicker like it does when I first hook up HDMI and then I have my mirroring options and it sees the monitor, when I power on the monitor it then is unable to see it and I lose those options.  Any suggestions as to what I can do?

So - I am having an issues with the same monitor.  I spend 2+ hours on the phone with Apple care.  They had me do all sorts of resets and stuff.  While this isn't really helpful - they had no real response.  They suggested I but a thunderbolt cable and see if that worked.  Alternatively, they noted that HP might need to update their firmware for OS Mavericks and I might just have to wait for that.  So... just FYI.  Hope you manage to resolve it better than I have been able to.

  • Hp 2311x monitor hs horizontal display shift right about 2 inches

My HP 2311x monitor worked fine on my old XP system. When installed on my new Asus desktop computer with Windows 8.1, the display shifted right about 2 inches.  I have a black area on the entire left side of the screen, and can't get to my charm bar or other items on the right 2 inches or so of the display.  Nothing I do seems to affect this.  Any ideas, anyone?

  • Hp 2311x monitor has darkened area

Why does my HP 2311x monitor have a darkened area in the top right side of the monitor?

    Hello bronco252,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand that you are experiencing a darkened area on your HP 2311x 23-inch LED Backlit LCD Monitor. I would like you to follow the steps I have set out below:
Step 1. Unplug the monitor from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold down the power button (while it's unplugged) for 30 seconds
Step 3. Plug the monitor back in to the back of the monitor and the wall (do not use a power bar or UPS for this)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
    Step 5. Press Factory Reset
Step 6. Remove and ensure that all connection wires from the computer to the monitor are secure and properly connected.
If the problem persists after you have completed the steps above then the issue appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.

  • 2311X Monitor Won't Power Up

My HP 2311X monitor will not stay powered up; It is not going to sleep (orange light), it is turning off.  I've listed my observations and what I've tried below.
    - Blue power button  - When first plugged in, the power light on the monitor glows briefly, then slowly gets dimmer & dimmer until it is out. If I unplug, wait 30 seconds and repeat, it does the same thing.
-Green power light on rear of monitor next to power plug is lit & says lit.
-Green power light on the external power supply is lit & stays lit.
    - I have tested the external power supply with a voltmeter and it is supplying the listed 12 volts (12.3 to be exact).  I have no way to test the supply under load.
    - I have tried a different commercial power outlet (120 Volt AC) that is known to be working and eliminated the UPS from the picture.
    - I have tried the "hard reset" by disconnecting power & video cables and holding the power button in for 60 seconds as suggested in other posts.
    - The PC works fine with another monitor.
    - Please don't say the R word (replace) - monitor is only 15 months old.  I refuse to see a nice piece of hardware fade away so quickly!
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Hello phonedoc1,
If you don't want to replace the product or I assume take it to get repaired then you'll have to do the work yourself.
If you open the monitor up you'll notice it's powered by a circuit board that looks similar to one that is in a PC. You should check the board for any lose connections, bulging capacitors, and check the soldered connections to see they are still working. It appears that the monitor is getting enough power to the monitor, but once it reaches the monitor it's not "distributing" the power. It sounds like a soldered connection within the monitor has come loose.
This thread is similar to what you are experiencing. Maybe the information would be helpful to you.

  • 2311x Monitor broken when first used! Please help!

I had bought an HP 2311x  and when I received it I hooked it up and the screen has alot of different colors, lines, and blurryness. Now after I hooked the monitor up to my pc I checked all the connections and power and everything was working fine. I used my old monitor and hooked it up and everything worked fine. Now here comes the worst part.
After buying this monitor I contacted support for a replacement (The monitor is less than two months old)
and have spent a week trying to get a replcement. I have sent the serial number, product number, Every receipt and shipping tracking info to HP and nothing has been done. All that has happened is HP calls and wants me to buy a new monitor with a 40-50 dollar discount. Now after spending plenty on this monitor that is less than two months old I would expect to get a replacment when it was broken when I got it.
Now HP refuses to do anything. All they do is shift me from department from department and everyone tells me it is under warrenty and that it will be replaced. But when I give them my shipping information they send me to another "Team" and they do the same thing. I am tired of this and all I want is a replacement monitor. Can someone please give me some advice ont what to do or anything that I could do?

  • Red ghosting with new 2311x monitor?

I just connected my new LV2311 monitor today and notice that when I scroll text in a browser, or just move a window with black text in it or just move the mouse pointer, there is a red 'trail' behind the object until it stops moving.  I have another Dell monitor that this does not happen with.  So I am wondering if this is a defect and should I request a replacement for this issue?
    Thanks!
    Bryan

I think I found a solution!  Check this web page:
    http://www.pretentiousname.com/dell2407fix/
Bascially, he's saying that the preset color profiles (Warm, Cool, Daylight, etc) are too bright or send too much signal to the pixels, causing the ghosting effect with high-contrast images when they move.  I have set up a Custom color profile and reduced the amount of red, green and blue values and also color-matched with another monitor I'm using.  It looks much better now.

  • Connecting HP 2311x display to new macbook pro Retina - no output on external screen

I have a brand new MacBook Pro 15 in. with Retina display.  I also have a HP 2311x monitor.  When I plug in the HDMI cable, the external monitor says "check video cable" and the preferences "arrangement" thinks there is a display - even recognizes the type - but the external display just wont display anything but the "check video cable" box.  I spent 2 hours on with apple yesterday, they had me do all sorts of resets and stuff - but no luck.  The HDMi cable works when connecting a pc to the screen.  When connected to by macbook, the screen on the macbook likes to flash black and its annoying.  I have gotten really used to working with two screens....  and apple's suggestion was to buy a thunderbolt cable and try that.  As it is, with this new macbook I have to buy a bunch of cables, I really don't want to buy another one when I am not sure that will work.  Darn things are expensive when you are buying 4 connectors at once (ethernet connector since the speed via wireless is noticably slower; magsafe to magsafe2 converter; thunderbolt for my printer; and a connector for the monitor at home which doesn't have an hdmi port).
Any other suggestions before adding another to that list? Since Apple seems to be out of ideas... any info would be appreciated.

I have an HP 2311x as well. I'm using an HDMI cable and am not having any issues getting the screen to display. I know you said the cable works with a PC but have you tried a different HDMI cable just in case. It might be worth a try. Other than that, I'm not much help.
The issue I had when plugging this monitor into my MBP retina was that the image was very blurry on the HP 2311x. I almost gave up on using it and was going to just buy a Thunderbolt display but after much research I found a custom firmware update that fixed the underscan/blurriness issue. So be prepared for that if you get the screen to display.
If I can find that resource, I will post it here.
    Good luck!

  • "Check Video Cable" Message on HP 2311x (different issue than original post by jca93)

    Hello,
    Monitor Status displays:
    MONITOR STATUS
    DVI: No Signal
    HDMI: No Signal
    VGA: Active
    Auto-Switch Source: Off
    Default Source: VGA
    Recommended Settings: 1920 x 1080 - 60 Hz
I only have VGA cables, so I do not use DVI or HDMI to connect monitor to computer. I was configuring the On-Screen Display (OSD) when I accidently went into Source Control Options and changed the video source from VGA to HDMI (or DVI, whichever one is placed directly above VGA).
By default, auto-switch should be on, but I turned it off a month prior. Computer is not affected, only monitor. I have tried to access the Source Control Options, but the OSD does not pop up.
My question is: is it possible to fix this issue, error without purchasing the other 2 types of cables? Is it possible to open up the OSD?
Help from an HP Expert or the community will be much appreciated. If you need me to provide more information, I will be happy to comply.
    This question was solved.

    Please try performing a hard reset on your 2311x monitor;
    1. Disconnect the power cord from the monitor.
    2. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
    3. Plug the power cord back into pc.
This should clear your current video source issue and your OSD issue by returning the settings to factory.

  • Apple Macbook Pro w/Retina Blurry w/ External Monitor

I bought new HP 2311x monitor and connecting it thorugh the DVI to MiniDisplay port adapter. The text on the screen is very blurry. This is only happening with the retina macbook pro. I tried several other laptops and no issue.
I called apple support and they stated they can not guarentee results with third party products. The resolution to buy a 1,000 apple monitor is not a good answer.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Any Fix?
If you are, please post to this thread with the model monitor you are using and how it is connect. This needs to be fixed by APPLE!!!!!!!!

I tried all those things very first, monitor setup (All that did with that is screw up perfect settings on my monitor that worked perfectly with windows machine) and sparsely available display settings on Mac. Anyway, I am still perplexed as to why the thunderbolt port next to charging port suks so bad but not the other port that is away from it?
Retina settings has nothing to do with external display which is what we are working on. Retina settings are only for the laptop display.
My extrnal display is recognizing the monitor's native resolution and it sets correct resolution. It is just that Mac has TUNED its graphics for RETINA (non-native) display which does not like to support non-retina normal (native) display. You know how apple works. I'm sure it will work flawlessly with Apple Monitor because they exactly know their defeciencies on laptop so they correct it with Apple product.
Anyway, all that will do for Apple is defame them more than they will make on selling their monitors!
Good luck Apple, you will need it, unless you really start addressing issues (First step is acceptance of the issue!)

  • Mac Air with HP Monitor

I've connected a HP 2311x monitor to my Mac Air.  The HP acts as second screen.  If I drag a window to the right it will show up on the HP screen.  I want it to act as the primary screen instead. Advice? Thanks in advance.

In System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab > Drag the grey rectangle from one screen to the other.
This will move the menubar.  The dock will go also depending on where you have it displayed and the relationship of the second monitor.  ie.  If dock is on the bottom and second screen is aligned or lower it will appear there.  If second screen is on the right but the dock is defined on the left, it will appear on the primary.

  • Colors don't look correct. hp 2311x

I have just recently purchased a second hp 2311x monitor. However when i connected it to my pc and placed it beside the other, the colors looked washed out and dull in comparison to my other. The display also looked noticibly worse than my other hp 2311x. Also in the control pannel it comes up as a hp 2311, even though on  the front it states that it is a 2311x.
Please could someone tell me why this is and if and how i can fix this.

    James

    Hello @JamesMorey,
I understand that you purhcased a second HP Pavilion 2311x Monitor and the colors are not as clear as your first one. Well the first thing I would try is swapping the connections that go from the PC to the monitor. This way you can ensure that it is not just the way the signal is coming from the computer. Here is an example of what I mean:
    Monitor 1 HDMI Connection
Monitor 2 USB - Graphics Adapter
    Swap so that:
Monitor 1 USB - Graphics Adapter
    Monitor 2 HDMI Connection
If you still are not getting a quality display on your new monitor try the steps set out below:
I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it

  • Hp 2311x repeatedly goes black

My 2311x monitor (Product no. XP598AA) consistently goes black, then comes back on with a "Monitor Status screen" as if I had just turned it on.  The power button stays blue, so it's not going to sleep.  This has happened since I first bought it in 2011, but it has become much more frequent and now happens almost constantly.
I have tried all of the following:
    - Using a different DVI cable, as well as trying both HDMI and VGA Cables
    - Using a different computer with the monitor
    - Using a different power supply
    - Factory Reset
    - Monitor Reset with the power button
This problem still occurs no matter what I've tried, and I own two more of these monitors that work without issue, so I am reasonably confident this is a hardware issue with the monitor itself.  Please help!

    Hello,
I see that you have made this post sometime ago and you got no reply.
Well, you did a good troubleshooting and theres nothing else you can try...
Like you said, its a hardware issue and therefore there is nothing we can suggest to fix it. Only thing you can do is to exchange the monitor for another one.
