HP 2311xi Monitor Screen Scaling

Have an HP 2311xi Flat Panel Monitor and all was OKay, until I upgraded my operating system from Windows 8.0 Pro to Windows 8.1 Pro and now  my monitor screen size has about 1/2 inch of black screen around all edges of the display.  All was good with Windows 8.0 and the display filled the screen correctly form edge to edge.  I went to the monitor's display controls and under Main Menu; Image Control; Customer Scaling; the "Fill to Screen" and "Fill to Aspect Ratio" are grayed out and unavailable. The only option is "Overscan" and that give me either the 1/2 inch black border or causes the display to 'overscan' and puts part of the screen display off the screen. In an using HDMI as the input source to the display, however, I had no trouble with is under Windows 8.0.
Besides going back to Windows 8.0, any suggested fixes for this issue.
Thanks,

Hi BillyMNJ,
Sorry for the confusion. Our situation is not exactly the same. Upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1 via MS Download Store. Graphics driver seemed to be OK except screen scaling issue. Did not check AMD driver version at that time. Then decicded to try HP's Win 8 AMD driver to correct scaling problem.. So I rolled back the graphics driver.
That solved the scaling issue but I was having other display problems.
Updated to the version you have on your system now. (image below). No resultant scaling issue after this update.
Had some minor issues so I uninstalled only AMD CCC using Programs and Features applet in Control Panel and selected Repair AMD Catalyst Install Manager because it (CCC) was present from the Win 8 HP unified driver install.
Maybe try uninstalling and removing only CCC if you have it or remove current graphics driver, reboot, and reinstall using Microsofts drivers ( the version we both have now) either via MS Win Update or device manager.
I have been troubleshooting the graphics problem since installing Win 8.1
Right now screen scaling issue has been corrected but have other minor issues.
I think this problem, in my case, is because the Radeon HD 7570 card is OEM - AMD does not provide support. So, if HP does not provide a Win 8.1 Unified driver package for my model, it is problematic as to whether a complete solution is possible.
Hope this clarifies??

I got an address from Applecare, although I can't place my hand on it right now. I didn't bother persuing the letter route myself as I didn't expect much. I know that the location was Cork, Ireland though as that where the UK Applecare is based as far as I'm aware. The best thing to do is to call Applecare (if it's free) and discuss the issue. State that you are not happy wit the fact that you will have to pay to have the problem resolved especiiay if it is an ongoing problem that has not been resolved. I ended up speaking to a senior manager of the Applecare team who then proceeded to tell me about mailing in my grievence to customer services division or something like that.
If I can find the address I may post it if I'm allowed.
In the case of age, Schools usually have a 5-year life-cycle as they tend to be used differently than consumer machines, i.e. being used constantly on a daily basis for at least 12 hours with no break. you would expect issues to appear after a few years, but I expect problems that arise through defects to be resolved and stay resolved. As I mentioned we had machines for around 2 years before the lines appeared and sent them to be repaired. I'm happy with that. What I am unhappy about is the fact that the problem has reappeared exactly in the same way and now I'm left with around 7 machines that I either pay loads to repair or, the more likely replace the machines with newer ones since the age is now big enough to warrant the replacement.
Sorry for the lengthy moan, but these are the reasons I purchased Apple ahrdware in the first place to avoid the "not our problem" stance some PC vendors  usually take, similar to the Dell monitors thread mentioned in here somewhere.

    Thanks for the follow up.
Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
    1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
    2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarifications, but remember that the answers are in the details.

  • My monitor screen scrolls up and down on its own by it's self? How do I stop it?

How do I fix a monitor screen scrolling up and down on its own?

    Sabrasam,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I want you to try a factory reset on the monitor if you haven’t attempted one already.
    1.       Press the Menu down in the bottom right corner of the monitor.
    2.       Once the on screen display appears toggle down to factory reset.
    3.       Select on that option
You might see your monitor go dark a couple times but that is normal. Test it out after the reset.

  • 2014 Mac mini doesn't scale the entire HP Envy 32 monitor screen

I recently purchased a HP Envy 32 monitor for use with my 2014 Mac mini with the Iris display. I get 2560x1440 resolution at 60 Hz on both the DP (1.2) as well as the HDMI ports (using the auto-detected HP Envy 32 color profile) but the display doesn't scale the entire screen of the monitor. Is anyone else using this configuration successfully? If so, what have you done to make full use of the 32" monitor real-estate? I simply cannot find any options in Display preferences (Yosemite) to change underscan options or for that matter within the monitor itself. Is there a particular display profile or driver I can use to fix this issue?

I'm using a 4K compatible DP cable connected to the Thunderbolt port and getting to the max resolution of the monitor. So I don't think the issue lies there. I was able to use SwitchResX trial mode to discover an underscan option that allowed me to scale to the entire monitor screen. Assuming SwitchResX is manipulating core OSX functions, I'd assume there is some display related configuration within OSX that I should be able to tweak in order to scale the monitor screen natively in OSX without requiring any 3rd party software. Any thoughts for how to go about tweaking the display natively?
    Thanks

  • Ports for Macbook Pro to monitor screen

I just bought a Macbook Pro 2 Ghz i7, 15" laptop and it doesn't seem to have connections(ports) to a separate monitor screen, what can I do?
    Thanks!
    Frank

Your MBP has a Thunderbolt port for external video connections. You can connect an Apple Thunderbolt Display to it with a Thunderbolt cable, or any other display using a mini-Displayport adapter to whatever sort of connection your monitor offers: VGA, DVI or HDMI.

  • Incoming text message doesn't fit monitor screen

All of a sudden my incoming emails are too wide to fit the monitor screen and I have to use the arrows at the bottom to read the right side. How can I correct this? Thanks
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Have you changed either the font size your e-mail program uses, or is the display resolution not at its maximum in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays? If the latter is the case, increase the resolution, and maximize the window size so more of the text fits.
Conversely, if your friend just purchased a larger display, they might be creating e-mail at a higher resolution, thus ending their sentences at a much later point in their e-mail too, thus causing it to not wrap where it used to.

  • I have an Imac.  When I click to open google maps a permeable but dark screen covers my monitor screen and I get a note that tells me to shut down the computer and restart it.  This hasn't helped.  Everything else seems to work fine.

When I attempt to open google maps in Firefox on my Imac, a dark screens descends over my monitor screen and a note tells me there's been an error, no number is noted, and that I need to turn off and restart my computer.  This doesn't help, but everything else works, including google maps in other browsers.

    This is a kernel panic.
First verify that Firefox is fully updated including all extensions.
    If this fails to fix....
Restart in Safe Boot mode then open Firefox.
    *  shutdown
    *  start the Mac and *wait* for the startup chime to sound
    *  after the sound, press and hold down the shift key
    *  keep holding and *wait* until the grey  Apple logo appears
    *  now release the shift key and just wait (it could take a few minutes)
    *  eventually the login screen appears with the words SAFE BOOT
    *  login and open Firefox.
If you continue to have problems see this article for more options to fix.

  • Mapping an irregular shape to represent monitor screen

    Hi everyone,
I have captured movements inside an irregular shape and need to map it on the monitor's screen. The input space is a 2D shape with 4 boundaries and these boundaries are not straight lines but irregular and nonlinear. The 2nd space is simply a 2D screen i.e. cursor position on the monitor screen. Maybe, I can use some kind of stretching out or stretching down function or perhaps a combination of both to cover the entire screen. I want this irregular quadrilateral to represent the monitor screen. Another difficulty is that the input space can be different each time and is not unique but I will always have the 4 corners and boundary of the input space.
I appreciate your thoughts on this,
    Elnaz

Yeah it seems like what is probably happening is the magnetic fields created by the sensors are interfering with each other, creating the distortion you see. In short, there are some tools available in LabVIEW that can help you do this, but they are only available in separate toolkits (see here). In particular, the IMAQ (Image Acquisition) toolkit has some calibration functions that do what you are trying to do. This page and this page provide some information about using the calibration tools in IMAQ.
If you are trying to do this on your own though, you'll have to use some fairly complex logic. You would have to step through each coordinate data point to eventually develop a transfer function that shifts your coordinates into a rectangle. This forum has some information that may help you develop code for doing this. But the exact algorithm LabVIEW uses for this is proprietary.
Hopefully this will at least give you an idea where to start. Again, probably the easiest thing to do would use a toolkit.

  • Qosmio F10: Monitor screen looks like an Andy Warhol picture

I am currently having problems with my monitor screen looking like an Andy Warhol picture. I have resorted to going through the Product Recovery DVD-ROM for my Qosmio F10/G10 Laptop in the hope that reverting it back to the factory settings would solve the problem but it hasn't.
The screen breaks down after the Windows welcome screen, leaving me with my desktop all Andy Warhol like (i.e. blocks of pixilated colour at the edges of the graphics). I have tried to reset the resolution which solves the problem to an almost acceptable level but on a temporary basis, because the problem re-appears again when I re-boot the laptop.
I think that it is something to do with the Windows Multimedia Operating system that was preinstalled on my computer (so no recovery disc). The reasoning behind this assumption is that I put a DVD film into the Multimedia that is part of Windows XP and the film is a moving Andy Warhol video.
I put the same DVD into the WinDVD that came as a Toshiba additional content and the DVD is perfect! My reasoning is, that if there was something wrong with the hardware of the Laptop, then all DVD reading programs would react the same way, but as they do not, it must be a programming (or operating system problem).
Am I on the right lines? Is there a way to solve the problem via a downloadable file?

Thanks guys for your replies, sorry if my question is confusing, but I couldn't think of any other way of describing it without the use of a screen dump to show you.
At the moment I haven't got another monitor to try, even though this looks as though it would have been the easiest option. I shall start asking round to see if I can borrow one to eliminate that variable.
However I will try to reinstall and to update "Graphic Drivers" to get rid out of this display problem.
    Thanks to all.

  • Monitor screen turning dark

My IMac monitor screen has started to darken from the bottom of the screen to about half way up to the top.  Any suggestions as to what may be causing this issue?

    Hi Beachgirl,
sorry to hear about your issue, considering the age of your mac and the problem as you described it, I would say the hardware, in this case the screen itself is reaching the end of its it life. You can try adjusting the brightness settings in the control power under energy saver, but if its half the screen being effected than i would assume the issue is hardware related. That being said, the cost to repair this issue will probably costs you 1/3 of a new iMac.
    Good luck,

  • Traffic light in RF monitor screen (LRF1) - how it is derive from?

    Hi,
This is a question about WM-RF. My question is how does the system determine the traffic light color in the RF monitor screen (LRF1). I read the SAP help portal and compare it to the screen and it still doesn't make any sense out of it..
On the SPRO, there is DEFINE QUEUE table, with thefollowing setup:
    WS--QUEUEQName-CapacUsed-CapacUsed----AccessLim
    110--B01_GEN-GenName610--
    2StrictLimitation
    Thus the relation is: 6/10 = 0.6
Next, I went to LRF1 and saw this record with warehouse 110, and Queue B01GEN, and having the following value_:
    QUEUE -
    TOs--LOADProc.By--
    Propotion
    B01_GEN----150.0002--
    Green
    Thus the relation is: 15/2 = 7.5
Why is it green? SAP help portal give the following explaination, and I don't know to derive it?
A- The queue tranffic light is green if the relation is less than the value given in the left relation field.
B - The queue traffic light is yellow if the relation is greater than or the same as the value specified in the right field.
C - The queue traffic light is red if the relation is greater than or the same as the value specified in the left relation field.
    Please share if you know.
