HP 23xi Monitor gets fuzzy despite driver and auto adjustment

I have a HP pavilion dv2000 windows Vista with a HP 23xi monitor hookep up throug VGA. I installed the driver from HP's website and the text was no longer blured nor the images stretched. However, every single time I unplug my laptop and replug it back to the monitor the text gets blurry again... No matter what I do, auto adjustment, resolution, etc..
Can you help me fix this?

The information you have provided, "HP pavilion dv2000", is incomplete and only identifies a series of computer models.
Please unplug the power from the monitor and then hold the power button in for 30 seconds. This should reset the monitor. See if that resolved your issues.

Had to get new hard drive and need to reinstall iTunes

My very new PC went beserk and I had to get a new hard drive. Everything off the old drive is irretrievable. I have my iTunes library backed up to an external drive (everything is also on my iPod). However, I don't want to have to "count" the new computer as one of the five machines on which I can copy my iTunes library, since it's not technically a "new" computer but just a replacement of my not-so-old one, which was barely 9 months old before it went kaput. Is there a way to reinstall iTunes and my library without getting dinged for yet another transfer of the library? Thanks.

Hi I can't figure out how to post a question of my own, so I'm asking it on this one because it is close to mine.
I just switched from a Sony Viao to a MBP, and tried to transfer my ITunes library from the Sony to my new MBP using a USB stick. I put all the music in my music library onto the stick, it said that it used 4.99 GB, and when I tried to put the music onto my MBP it only added 1.98 GB.
I thought that maybe the music it wasn't transferring was the music I purchased on my earlier laptop, but it transfered a few of my movies that I purchased off of ITunes. Please Help?

Classic dynpro : hide area and auto adjust hights

I want to develop a similar user interface as is used in standard transaction MIGO.
first, Iu2019d like to show / hide a sub screen area using a button (similar to the header data or the item details in transaction MIGO)
Second, Iu2019d like to automatically adjust the height of a table when the other subareau2019s are shown or hidden. Only difference is that Iu2019m using an ALV in a container instead of a table.
Can anyone give me some indication on how to implement this? Thanks in advance.

External Hard Drive and Time Machine no longer recognized

I recently downloaded the latest software update and upon rebooting the system to install the security update and whatever other update was included, my external hard drive which contains time machine is no longer recognized. I tried to use disk utility to mount it, fix it, but nothing worked. I am led to think that it's gotta be something in the latest update because i haven't had any problems before this. Sometimes the drive shows up as a yellow image sometimes in disk utility, the rest of the time it is a sort of transparent gray. What's wrong with my machine??? Can i simply uninstall the latest update? would that even solve this issue? i NEED to get into this drive and recover these files

BUMP! Count me in on this one. The last Time Machine back-up was 12/6. I take my machine to the office during the week but am working from home this week. My other external drive (Archives) shows up, but Time Machine is MIA. Looking at System Profiler under USB, I can see the drive on the USB hub and the volume is labeled Time Machine, so the computer sees it, it just doesn't mount it to the desktop so Time Machine can't find its drive.
I've turned the drive off and on. I've swapped cables with the Archive drive. I've rebooted. Nothing works. Both are Western Digital MyBook Studio editions. Both are plugged in to the same hub. I also switched the cables on the hub, but if it's showing up in the Profiler, the problem isn't with the hub, the drive or the cable.
Suggestions? Clues? Comments? I'd rather not lose a year's worth of Time Machine back-ups at this point, plus I can't even reformat the drive.

Hard Drive and NIC Serial #/ID

How can a LabVIEW program get a hard drive and/or NIC serial number/ID in
Windows?
I'd like to programmatically get this information to provide an "unlock"
code for software that has been paid for.

It is the volume serial number. Is this something that can be changed in

Suggestion on pocket drive and migration of iTunes to Pocket Drive

My computer is quickly getting filled up with all my music. I orginally used the default settings and had iTunes put all my music in My Documents-->My Music.
Since I am running out of space on this computer, I am thinking of getting a pocket drive and migrating my music there.
I have 2 questions:
1. Does anyone have any suggestions for pocket drives? I want one that will work/interface with iTunes well. I am looking at either:

Sorry for the lenght of the post :-) Just trying to be as clear as possible.
The question is actually simple.
How do I transfer the 10.7 MBP library to the second internal HDD of the Mac Mini, so that iTunes will work on this MM, without losing filepaths, ratings and playlists? And without having to copy it to the boot SSD disk first which will be too small to hold the library.

Time Capsule backup strategy for multiple drives and OS

I'd like a backup strategy based on Time Capsule but have a few twists from a straightforward situation and would appreciate any guidance with setting it up. My hardware situation is:
- Two MacBooks, on 10.5, one with an 80 gb drive, the other with a 120 gb drive.
- One G4 iMac, on 10.4, with a 60 gb drive
- One LaCie NAS drive, used primarily as the storage space for music and video, and currently not backed up anywhere (making me nervous!)
Ideally I'd like each of these four units to be backed up on Time Capsule; and my configuration questions are in two areas:
1) Backup software: I'll use Time Machine to backup the MacBooks, but not sure about the G4 and NAS drive. These could be backed up on a more ad hoc basis (I don't need hourly updates). Is this best handled with a third party app like SuperDuper to allow for incremental backups?
2) Partition/disk image: is it wise (or indeed necessary) to create partitions for each of the above sources (I gather from reading other posts is seems the best way to achieve a partition is to create a disk image). I'm not sure if there would be any unintended consequences by doing so (or not),and if so if a sparse image disk image is better than a sparse bundle disk image given the above, so any guidance to help make sure it's set up as flexibly as possible from the outset would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are on the right track. As a "left field" suggestion, why not get two big drives, and use one of them as a file server. Get everyone to use the file server for any critical documents that they want backed up centrally/continuously. Then back the file server system up onto the other big drive using TM.
This reduces administration somewhat, and privacy can be retained with careful username management across the network.
Assuming that the three MacBooks are similarly configured from a system perspective, there is not a lot of point in having full bootable clone's of each one. Perhaps create a bootable clone from one of them each week - and clone the other two into disk images (which are not bootable, but are restorable) as frequently as needed.

What's the difference between LaCie d2 drives and LaCie Porsche drives

Does anyone have any advice? I need to get a 500gig drive and can't figure out what the difference is between these two drives. They have different enclosures but is there any other major difference?

As many posters here will tell you LaCie drives have a variable history concerning reliability.
I used to be a staunch supporter of LaCie drives but we've had four of their units fail in the last few months (not the hard drives, just the FW bridge boards). Very disappointed, not to mention expensive.
We now (almost exclusively) use these Macpower Taurus enclosures:

But G-Tech, Iomega and Glyph also make decent external drives, although IMO they are mostly overpriced, particularly Glyph. But regardless of manufacturer: ALWAYS have a back-up drive... and use it.

Imovie hd projects on external drive and imovie 9 compatible?

are older imovie hd files compatible with imovie 9. Meaning all my prior imovie raw footage lableled .imovieproject on external hard drive, can they be edited by imovie 9?

I have all raw imovie hd (ilife 6) at the root of the lacie hard drive. I don't think there is an events >folder for the older imovie.
Probably the easiest thing for you would be to import your iMovie 6 projects one at a time by using File/Import.
Also, I use a lacie big disk terabyte drive -- it allows me to put larger files on it without formatting. I >was going to buy another lacie drive to avoid formating, but i will format the drive. I assume this is >something that disk utility can do?
Open the finder. Right-click ( or control-click) on the icon for your Lacie Drive. Click "Get Info". Look for Format: If it says Mac OS Extended (journaled) it will work. If not you can either format it (back it up first because it will erase everything) or get a new drive and make sure it is properly formatted.
You can reformat using disk utility. Except in Disk Utility, it is not called reformat. It is called "Erase".
You hit the button to erase the disk. You first might have to partition the disk. Select GUID or Apple Partition Map as the partitioning scheme. You can have one partition or multiple partitions. Then format as Mac OS Extended (journaled) or it may say HFS+ extended (journaled).

SSHD Hybrid drives and Raid 0 for Premiere

I am looking for a little support and help as I would like to expand both the capacity and speed of my current editing setup.
I intend on using 2x Momentus XT Hybrid SShD 750gb to give me 1.5tb of very fast storage, and buying a cheap 2tb drive to manually make backups.
I edit mainly DSLR footage in cs5.5, but I 've noticed large slow down in applying effects and rendering as my current 1tb drive fills up.
I've looked around the internet for some answers specifically about this scenario, and whether it would suit to enhance video editing.

I did a quick render test. It is rendering okay when I am applying basic colour correction. The CPU is going between 20% and peaking at 80%, so this would indicate that the CPU is maybe not the bottleneck currently.
The ram is using 6 gb at max, of 9 gb made available for use by Premiere in the preferences.
I will definately clean up my drives and defrag very soon, as I am finishing off a short film project where I have been using 10 bit uncompressed footage. That should free up some space!
I am interested about your other suggestion about getting the hdd drives and raid 0. I have done a little research recently on the forums, and had a look at the optimum disk configuration for various systems depending on the number of disks available. Now, my understanding is that you want to try and spread the load over a number of disks. I am noticing now that a few people are using SSD's, and submitting these as suggestions for disk configurations.
I am considering the idea of buying a couple of small capacity SSD's, (maybe with the marvel controller, that Harm I believe mentioned is better than sandforce for robustness), and in Raid 0. I would use this for my media cache/render preview/pagefile section. Even 2x 60gb ssds striped to provide 120gb, would be more than enough for my standard workflow. Also, if the array goes down, its just temporary cache anyway right?
Why would I use a 1tb 7200rpm drive, when I could go this route instead? I know the 1tb drive would be cheaper, but isn't speed of the essence here? I read a comment that Harm mentioned that "most speed requirements is for scratch, temp and pagefile". I think with a bit of housekeeping, I can delete old render previews, media cache and database entries, and have plenty of room left over with the kind of projects I work on. I'm using around 60 gb for that section right now.
I am thinking now of ditching the hybrid sshd plan, and going for 2xssd low capacity raid 0, and a 3 tb drive as an archive to free up my 1tb drive for footage, exports, and maybe projects.
I am interested to hear whether I am being sily to bother striping 2ssds with my modest setup. Will my motherboard bottleneck somewhere first?
I could just get another couple of 1tb drives, but I feel like I want to challenge that approach as SSD technology and prices have come a long way. SSDs support trim in Raid 0, so whats stopping us?
Also, I may point out that I am looking to upgrade at some point the whole architecture of my PC. I am thinking about the GTX 760 in the near future.

Happens, its a commonly documented error with Windows and alot of burning software installed on one machine.
Your going to have to work thru this article to resolve it. Now it is going to be in the registry to fix it. Which is pretty indepth. The document works tho. Used to work for a company that wrote burning software and we did this on a hourly basis. If your not comfortable, your going to need to find someone who is experenced in the registry.

Imac monitor is pixelating and getting fuzzy...

My Mother's intel imac 7,1dual intel core, is about 4 years old. The monitor just started pixelating, getting fuzzy and displaying black stripes both vertically and horizontally. My first thought, from experience, (my g5 has went through 3 video cards!) was that she needs a card, becaus eit seems to do it when it heats up a bit and dragginthe mouse across the screen reverses the effect temporarily. Now, i popped this thing open myself 2 years a go and replaced the hard drive and I don't remember if it has a video card. "about this mac" states that it has an ATI Radeon hd 2600 video card, but a lot of dicession boards say that the video card is intergrated into the motherboard. Can anyone tell me, before i hae to crack it open or lug it into the genius bar?

Your system cannot find the startup volume. Please carefully read Flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac , Apple provides the trouble shooting steps in the article. As a general rule of thumb NEVER EVER shut down the system by unplugging it, you have the ability to Force Quit applications. You can find Force Quit under the Apple symbol in the upper left corner of your screen. Also use Activity Monitor and check to see if you have any run away processes and how much FREE RAM your system has.

How do I get my Mac Pro to see the second monitor through a video splitter and/or switcher?

In a recording studio we have a Mac Pro with two video display monitors in the control room and we want to be able to show the content of the second monitor to the person in the recording room on a big display monitor there. However, when we interpose a switcher or splitter between the computer and the second monitor so that we can (with a switcher) switch the second monitor signal from the control room monitor to the record room monitor or (with a splitter) split the signal to go to both monitors, we have no luck. On startup the computer does not see the monitor through the switcher, so it doesn't recognize its existence. If we start the computer up without the switcher in the signal chain, it sees the second monitor just fine, and (weirdly enough) we can then change the cabling to interpose the switch, which then works to switch back and forth between second monitors (control room and record room), but that cable swapping's a royal PITA. We want a simple solution that will allow us to start up the computer, see the second monitor in the control room, then choose to show it to the person in the record room with a simple flip of the switch (or even better, split the signal so it's available both places). We have a full ProTools HD Accel 3 system installed, so there's no room to install a second video card. Thanks.

I did say when you want to connect three monitors to 5x70's there are some rules to adhere to. These are covered in the first two apple docs mentioned above, or by title:

The general gist of these rules is that to drive three monitor son a 5x70 you need two active adapters. That is why one of your monitors was disabled when you tried to add a third.
Here's a good explanation of what's going in here and why you need two active adapters on these cards:

If you use DVI monitors and any of them have resolutions less than 1920 x 1200 then you can use single link active adapters. The "AMD Eyefinity Validated Dongles" chart shows some active (and passive) adapters that are acceptable. For example of a single link DVI active adapter is the Accell B087B-006B. An example of a dual link DVI active adapter would be the one from monoprice.com if you need to connect monitors with a resolution greater than 1920 x 1200.
I'm doubtful that SwitchResX would be able to convince the computer that there were only two monitors connected and direct the second monitor signal to the correct place, but it certainly seems worth a try, so thanks for the idea! Any other ideas are still welcome in the meantime.
I'm not doubtful. It is a very powerful utility for dealing with all aspects of multiple monitor configurations (they call them "Display Sets") complete with forcing EDID information if necessary. The different configurations can be controlled with a (contextual) menu and/or hot key.
SwitchResX is academic at this point if you want to have all three monitors connected. You would need to get that working first. Then use SwitchResX to vary the configuration combinations. So if you go this route the "name of the game" is figure out the active adapters you need.
I only described in general terms above about the adapters since you never said exactly what kind of connections these monitors require (single link DVI, dual link DVI, hdmi, mini-displayport, vga).

This happens not just with the SSD in my Mac Mini, but with another SSD in my MacBook (both now running Mavericks). So far as I know, all of the kit I am using is in good order (despite the file corruption reports). So I am beginning to wonder if it could be due to a bug in Mavericks? Both SSD drives have been formatted to MacOS Extended (journaled) format. Should I have used a different format, I wonder?
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Does anyone have a solution?
Or an explanation that might help my investigation of the issue?

I understand that the Corsair Force 3 is not one of the SSD drives that are supported on Apple Macs.
I did try downloading and using Trim Enabler, but the error message came up both when it was off and when it was on.
I understand that not everyone thinks Trim Enabler is a good program, though there is a new version out now, so I may give it another try.

Editing using a firewire external hard drive and a NTSC television monitor

I have Final Cut Express 2 and use it with a firewire external hard drive and a NTSC television monitor.
I have started to use iMovie with this same set up. I save my iMovie projects to an external hard drive and also have my miniDV deck connected via firewire with the composite outputs going into a 27 inch television so that I can get a better idea of what my colors and title safe framing, etc. look like.
I have had some minor problems with this set up. Like stuttering video, audio tracks playing back when thay are "unchecked" and the "unexpectedly quit" deal.

iM uses a lot of harddrive space on the "start up"/internal disk, even when the project itself is located on some external drive.. make sure, you have at last 10 - 15GB free...
