HP 400 M401n is very slow

My printer is really slow.  How can I speed up the rate it prints.

Hi,
Please check the following solutions:
Solution 1: Use a lower print quality setting
Solution: Check the print quality setting. Best and Maximum dpi provide the best quality but are slower than Normal or Draft. Draft provides the fastest print speed.
Cause: The print quality was set to a high setting. If this did not solve the issue, try the next solution.
Solution 2: Check the ink/toner levels
Solution: Check the estimated ink levels in the ink/toner cartridges. NOTE: Ink/toner level alerts and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When you receive a low on ink/toner message, consider having a replacement cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace the ink/toner cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable.
CAUTION: Wait until you have a new ink cartridge available before removing the old ink cartridge. Do not leave the ink cartridge outside of the printer for an extended period of time. This can result in damage to both the printer and the ink cartridge.
For more information, see: Check the estimated ink levels
Cause: The ink cartridges might have insufficient ink. Printing with depleted cartridges slows the printer. If this did not solve the issue, try the next solution.
Solution 3: Contact HP support
Solution: Contact HP support for service. Go to: www.hp.com/go/customercare. This website provides information and utilities that can help you correct many common printer problems.
If prompted, choose your country/region, and then click Contact HP for information on calling for technical support.
Cause: There was a problem with the printer.
Good luck.

  • OS 9 running very slow on 400 MHz G4 'Mystic'

I've posted this before, but may have accidentally done it under my other account (I made a second one a while ago when I forgot about my first one). However, the situation has changed [slightly] since then, so I'll just tell it like it is.
It's a 400 MHz G4, 128 MB RAM (512 MB virtual memory, Gigabit Ethernet/'Mystic' machine. It previously had 256 MB of RAM, but I decided to try it with just the original stick when it was performing even worse than it is now. As it turns out, it performed better with the one stick of it's original RAM, so I've kept it like that. My most frequented application is the 'iCab' browser.
So, here's my problem, it's just very, very slow. I wouldn't complain if it wasn't that bad, but it really is just that bad. Now, based on everything I've heard from other 'old Mac' users, OS 9 should be nice and fast and iCab shouldn't be much of an issue. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. Almost any time I open a new page it takes around 10 seconds to open, and I almost always have to abort some Javascript to save time [so far, this hasn't kept any sites from working]. Even after choosing to abort, I have to wait longer for it to go through with it. Whenever it gets stuck in some Javascript (I doubt that many websites could have buggy Javascript, especially since I have to do it on Apple Discussions as well), the entire OS stops responding. The clock [which shows seconds] stops, I can't change tabs or applications, etc. The only reason I don't suspect that the entire OS crashed is because the arrow still moves. This happens with an app that gets caught up in doing something, but since I use iCab the most, that's the best app off of which I can base my experiences.
So, is it really supposed to work like this? It's so bad that it's lagging even as I type this, and I only have two other browser tabs open. I collapsed the window to look behind it for anything else and even doing that, it lagged. By the way, the only other thing open is a Finder window.

    Hi, videoCWK -
Also, what would be the consequences of not fixing it soon? Could the problem get worse?
Directory problems usually get worse over time, sometimes quickly. When that happens, if you're lucky the initial symptoms will be files or programs that fail to open; if you're not lucky, the OS will no longer work.
You should repair it before anything negative happens to the operation of the computer.
Could this be fixed with an OS 9 install disc?
Not exacctly. The only utility available for repair work on the CD is Disk First Aid. Although DFA is smart enough to diagnose such a problem, it does not have the ability to make repairs to the directory.
You could use such a disk to deep wipe (re-initialize and format) the hard drive. This is usually not a fun thing to do, since it fully erases the hard drive. You would first need to back up anything you do not want to lose (unless you already have current backups); deep wipe the drive; then re-install the OS and all programs you need, and copy needed files from their backup archive.
DiskWarrior is a very good utility to have on hand. The latest version of it that boots/runs under OS 9 is v. 2.1.1. It can usually fix this kind of directory damage with no loss of files, leaving your hard drive in the exact same configuration you've become used to.
Additional things you can do to improve the speed and responsiveness of OS 9 -
    • In the Extensions Manager control panel, disable (uncheck) all extensions for services you do not use. Doing this will reduce the footprint of the OS - all active (checkmarked) extensions are loaded at startup, whether they are needed or not.
For example, if you do not use File Sharing you can disable all extensions related to that service. In case you're not familiar with Extensions Manager's features, you can set up new sets of extensions with names you give them; this allows reasonably rapid switching between sets. Note that a restart is required whenever you make changes to the active set, or change sets.
There is also an additional pane available at the bottom of its window - click the triangle next to "Show Item Information" and that pane will appear; then, whenever you clkick on the name of an item in the list, any additional info about it will be displayed there. This info can help you determine whether you need that item active or not.
    • Don't go font crazy. Like extensions, all fonts in the Fonts folder are loaded at startup. Having a ton of fonts in there will slow down the OS.
    • Since you have a relatively small amount of RAM in the machine, avoid bells and whistles type utilities, meaning those that affect the look and feel of the machine. These can include items such as BeHierarchic, DefaultFolder, PowerOn Utilities, and others. Though many of those are good and can be useful, they do add to the OS's burden on the CPU, and to RAM consumption.
    • Avoid having a picture displayed on the desktop. Best is a single color, not even a pattern.

  • My Mac is very, very slow

    Hi there,
Need help. Have MacBook Pro for last 5 years. It has OS X 10.5.8, 2 GB RAM and 4 GB of free cpace on 80 GB HD. Recently it became very slow. I mean REALLY slow. Except for the web page that I can scroll up and down for everything else i see spininning color wheel a lot, actually all the time. I go to save something and scrolling through file list makes sliding stop and I see color wheel. If I open Word to type something or e-mail, letters I typed appear later after s1-3 seconds and so on. I try to keep just a one or two programs opened.
I tried to use Activity Monitor (utilities) and looked at CPU load and memory load and see nothing dramatic there. Low load on CPU and 300-400 MB of free RAM. Disk activity monitor displays peaks even that I am not saving anything at the moment. I really don't know what to look at to recognize a bottleneck in the system.
I must say that my oldest 20" iMac (about 6 years old) slowed dramatically with about same simptoms. My newest 24" iMac is still the fastest of the bunch but it is kind of going in same direction by slowing down. This is typical Windows behaviour and when I started purchasing Macs they promised me that it will never happen.
    Regards,
    Zack

HI zack- not sure if your problem has been resolved, but I have a MacBook pro with similar specs and experienced a similar issue. I think the issue is not having enough free space on your hard drive. In general you should keep about 10-20% of your drive available for the system to use as virtual RAM. I ended up getting a 500 GB drive to replace my 80. Found instructions on ifixit.com and did it myself. Issue was remedied almost immediately. Hope this helps.

  • Data transfer very slow on mac pro!! mac H/W unable to fit specifications.

    Hi,
I am installinginternal disks on the quad mac pro and the transfer ratet in the mac are very slow!!!
the disks are: barracuda 7200.10 disks, 500 GB. Sta II 300, max ST3500630AS firmware 3.AAE . throughput:300mb.jumpred off to get the 300.
MAC tells that the QUAD MAC Pro equipment (2x2.66ghz dualcore intel xeon) comes with a 3.Gigabit specification/ 300MB/sec. (Intel ESB2 AHCI, speed: 3.0 Gigabit. AHCI version 1.10 supported)...
And the benchmarks of the disk ST3500630AS show maximum 80MB/sec and a minimin of 37.3MB/sec, average 63.1 MB/sec. (anandtech tests).
According to seagate.com the maximum sustained data transfer rate:78MB/s
but in the mac the reallity is different: I am getting a transfer rate of 22MB/sec!!!!! . with out any application running and only making copy of the files!!!!
that means that the mac is only providing only 1/3 of the expected transfer rate for the disks..
so, is there a way that the MAC Pro gets all the normal transfer rate for those disks???
Is the Quad MAC Pro hardware unable to get the maximum throughput of the disks???
It seems that the mac is unable to get also the average transfer rate of those disks.. how to correct it???
    thanks a lot
    Alberto
ps. just for fun: I am getting a faster transfer rate from an old power pc ,and old pc, and firewire 400 and old ide disks!!! (36MB/seg!!!)

    Yup.
BThe latest Mac Pro are better, so if you have a new or 2 month old unit, Seagate should work, though I think there should be later firmware.
Some would say those drives take the cake or woRSe.
    http://www.barefeats.com/hard91.html
    SEAGATE PUZZLES
+Firmware version 3.AEE or later solves the slow sustained large block write speed issue for a single 7200.10 inside the Mac Pro.+
+The remaining performance issue is slow small random read speeds for one, two, three or four drives. No matter how many drives you configure in RAID 0 sets, the average random read speed for combined block sizes from 64K to 1024K is less than 30MB/s (based on QuickBench 3 testing).+
+Until Seagate fixes this, we can't recommend the 7200.10 series as the ideal boot drive for the Mac Pro (or Power Mac).+

  • Mavericks install incomplete. No Apple installers on HD. Will I be able to upgrade to Yosemite and will it fix all that didn't install with Mavericks upgrade? Very slow connection speeds 30 hrs to download Mavericks. Tried re-install; no help/

Ever since upgrade to Mavericks I have been having problems which are too numerous to mention. I finally found a program from a UCBerkley professor called Pacifier which indicated 4000+ of 400,000+ files and folders did not install. I was unable to go further to try to fix everything because Pacifier can't find ANY Apple installers on my HD. It recommended I download the Mavericks installer without reinstalling to continue; however, after having done so (very slow connection; takes 30 hours to download) and although the installer appears in apps while downloading it disappears and NO Apple installer packages can be found on my hard drive. I tried to download Yosemite once and it indicated my system wasn't eligible for the upgrade. Its' download time was similar to Mavericks; 28+ hours.
    I am using a Macbook Pro mid-2012 version OS X 10.9.5 (13F34); Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5; Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.
Regardless of how many files and apps I remove my memory is being eaten up to the point I can hardly do anything at all. There are no civil words for how frustrated I am. Someone please help me.
    Thanks,
    JJ

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Import ABAP running very slow

guys, I am installing IDES EHP4 on a solaris box with oracle 10g. The import is running very slow. in 20 hours, it has only imported 10 out of 105 jobs. Top comand shows i have 26 GB free physical memory (out of 48GB total) and also 123 GB free swap out of 150 GB total. CPU load is also only 3 %. I have already configured the project file acording to sap recommedation. MY oracle init file configuration looks like this. Also, you will see my project and user_attr files below. Please advise what i can change tomake things go faster.

My iMac is now running very slow.  Every process/application lags, safari, iPhoto, pages, iTunes, etc.  Beach ball just spins and spins.....
I have an early 2008 iMac with 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, 320 GB SATA Disk storage with 30GB free.  I just upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 hoping it would help solve the problem but no luck.
I ran "syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef" in the terminal window and received the following in the text window....
    Jan 14 00:18:17 X-imac-2 kernel[0] <Notice>: Process systemmigrationd [146] disabling system-wide I/O Throttling
    --- last message repeated 5 times ---
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Linc for your help!  Here is the logs from Console:

  • Crystal Reports Moved from one file server to another - very slow opening

    Hello,
I am new here, and I am in need of a solution. If I am not in the correct forum, please advise.
Our crystal reports were moved from an old file server to a new file server.  Once the old file server was shut down the reports opened very slow in Designer and in our 3rd party application.  Our server team determined that the reports are still attempting to connect to the old file server.  If the old file server is brought online or dns is changed to reflect another machine that it can make a connection to, it opens with no delay.
For some reason, not every report is affected.  Most of the reports are Crystal 8.5, but I have some Crystal XI reports that do the same thing.  I can't find any reference in the reports to any file server/location....
I need to resolve this issue on the Crystal 8.5 version due to the application that we are running.
Is there a way to fix this other than to recreate the reports (I have over 400 of them)?
Any assistance or advice is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Hi Nancy,
The server info still needs to be updated. Are you setting location for each subreport also?
Possibly this registry key will help, I only have CR 2008 installed so you'll have adjust for what ever you are using:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions - VerifyStoredProceduresOnFirstRefresh = No
    and
    VerifyStoredProceduresOnSetLocation = No
    And
    VerifyWhenDBDriverUpgraded = No
    And
    ViewOutOfPlaceSubreports = No
Close CR designer before making any changes. And the usual warning about modifying the registry.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Can anyone help with a very slow iMac?

I'm getting increasingly frustrated by this computer, it takes an age to start up and then the processor makes it's noise for quite some time before allowing me to do anything.  Often the beachball is whirling around too.  I'm pretty useless when it comes to computers.  I ran the etrecheck software and have this info from it.  Can anyone offer any suggestions please?
    Problem description:

You only have 2GB of RAM, which is not enough to run OS X 10.10 smoothly (it's the bare minimum requirement to run it at all). Consider buying more at http://eshop.macsales.com (there are other vendors as well). Find the correct RAM for your model by searching for your iMac's model identifier - iMac8,1. Also look at their installation videos.
You have several failed Apple launch agents, you may need to re-install OS X to fix that. Boot the computer while holding down the Command ⌘ and R keys at the same time. This will boot to the Recovery partition. Choose the reinstall OS X option.

  • Why do i have two identical internal hard rive in my MAC? It makes my laptop very slow

My Mac book Pro is very slow since a few weeks. I decided to investigate. When i look in Disk Utility, i see two internal hard drive! The first one is almost full (18 Mo free on 800 Go). The second one is half full (this one is the one i see when i click on About this Mac, 400 Go free on 800 Go). I guess the first one is the one that make my computer so slow. Does anybody knows how this can happen ? What can i do for it ? It seems like the second one is a part of the first one.
    Thanks !

    OS X 10.10 Yosemite
If you see 2 Macintosh HDs   when you check  Disk Utility, that is normal on OS X 10.10.Yosemite.
It is the Core Storage and Volume Manager technology in action.
There is no Knowledge Base Article from Apple  about this yet.

  • Mac Dreamweaver CS6 very slow to open files

    Hi
My Mac Dreamweaver CS6 opens html files in about 1-2 minutes! It is very very slow. It all works when the file is open but it is the actual opening that is slow.
I have turned off external files but no change.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks
    Mac Pro
    Processor  2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)

I've been strugling with this issue for  a long time.
I've found that Dreamweaver takes  about 2 minutes to open  CSS files with @import url for  font face.
    for example:
    @import url(http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Oswald:400,300);
i've never had problem with  big files but if i place this line into my 20k css file,  it takes for ever to load.
if i  remove it, it opens  fast  as usual.
Please don't tell me  that it could be a  Google problem  thatis loading slow  because it's not.
the font file isnt  big enough either.
Of course i have deativated the "load things from external urls" setting.
any ideas on how could this be  fixed withoput changing my work style ?

  • Premier Elements 4 very slow and frequently crash

    Dear Adobe support staff,
I've purchased Adobe Premier Elements 4 several yeard ago for an urgnet job I made.
I didn't use it much because it crashes all the time, and it is very very slow and frustrating. So I've used other software instead.
Needless to say that I was very dissappointed.
Now, I want to give it a second chance. but it stiil keep crashing and still very very slow.
    My questions:
    1.  Why does it  crash all the time?  is there is a fix for the problem?
    2.  What kind of  Graphics Card or Video Editing Card do you recommend for my system to work relatively normal ?
    3.  How much will it  cost me to upgrade to version 11 ?
    My system SPEC:
    OS:  Microsoft Windows 7 ultimate  with SP1 (32bit) .
CPU:  INTEL Core2 QUAD cpu Q9550 , 2.83 GHZ with a 4 GB of RAM.
Graphics card:  NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT.
Motherboard:   MICRO STAR INTERNATIONAL , MODEL MS-7353  3.0,  CHIPSET INTEL X48,
    RAM:  4 GB Dual Channel DDR2, 400 MHZ ,  512 MB memory.
    Please  advice.
    Sincerely yours,
    Shimon Tourgeman.

For the crashing, this FAQ Entry might be useful. It starts with a general PrE checklist, then goes into computer and OS tuneup, and ends with many links on troubleshooting and finding causes: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/792580?tstart=0
As for the GPU, any current video card, with at least 1GB of VRAM, will work well. PrE does not place much of a load on the GPU, but it DOES rely very, very heavily on the video driver. Both nVidia and AMD/ATI issue constant driver updates, with nVidia leading the way at this moment.
Also, while talking about drivers, some users have experienced issues with Win8 drivers. I would wait until SP1 has been released for Win8, before changing to it from Win7. For this reason, I just ordered a new laptop, and specified Win7. As the company, ADK, only builds custom and semi-custom video editing machines, they commented that they will ONLY install Win7 at this time, and have been testing Win8, since the first beta. They do not think that it is yet ready for "prime time."
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I still use PrE 4.0, but on XP-Pro SP3, and have only crashed it 2-3 times over the years. At least 2 times, it was due to OE on my part. However, my computer is tuned and built for video editing.
