HP 4000 Only prints to tray 1

I have a fairly old HP 4000 but has been very faithful over the years.  Recently I've encountered an issue that no matter what I do it will only print to Tray 1 forcing me to manually feed it paper.
I've went through the menu's and all looks correct.  I've even done restore defaults with no luck.
Reguardless of the computer I'm printing from I get the same results.  Even when printing if I tell it Tray 2 or Tray 3 it still goes to Tray 1.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I is most likely a setting in the printer program. Have you checked to see if the settings are the same on all of the machines? If you have and all the settings are the same and your still getting the same issue I would go to Xerox for further support.
But I would check every printer settings in both the program and windows printer settings first.

  • OfficeJet 8600 Premium - Faxes Only Printing from Tray 2

I'm running into an issue with an OfficeJet 8600 Premium on OS X (Lion), but this shouldn't be OS specific.
It appears that incoming faxes are requiring tray 2, even though the default tray is set to 1 and the media lock is off. The printer reports that it's out of paper, even though Tray 1 is full.
I've removed the lower tray assy, checked the paper size settings within the trays, set the default to 2 and back to 1, set the media lock on 2 with the default on 1, rebooted the printer and computer, but nothing seems to make a change in how incoming faxes are printed.
I am successfully able to print from tray 1 with normal print jobs. For some reason, the fax portion of the printer just defaults to tray 2, and I can't find where I can reset that to tray 1...or to follow the defaults of the machine.
    Any thoughts?

so you are telling me the default is tray2 only and the software does not allow you to choose like ALL prior hp!!!!  This is the dumbest software i have ever seen...i have stuggled with this for over a year to only hear that hp decided what i should do!!!!  all my programs select tray 1 for regular paper and tray 2 for medical claims!  yes it is used for two different types of paper....i do not want to change hundreds of documents because hp decided where i should default print and fax from!  is there a fix to allow me the user to select where i would like things printed from....thanks....how stupid are you hp!!!!  why would you take away choices so basic as to where a fax is printed from.....

  • Only printing from tray 1 with Matlab

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a HP officejet pro x451, and have set all its default preferences to printing from tray 2 (which holds A4 paper). However, the printer only seems to print from tray 1 and will not continue until I have filled tray1 with paper.
I must specify that I am trying to print via Matlab (printing from Word is fine).
    I hope someone can help!
    Thanks very much.

    Hi BerthB,
When you print from Matlab, have you checked what is the tray source setting in the print dialog? It is a dialog when you click "print" button. Some application softwares might set it to "Tray 1" by default. This will override the setting on your printer, where you set "Tray 2".
You can set tray source setting to "Tray 2" or "auto select" in your case.

  • HP Laserjet 2300n will only print to tray 1

we have a laserjet 2300n and it suddenly will not print to any other tray except tray 1.   Tray 2 and Tray 3 have paper and Tray 1 is closed.   The paper preference is that only legal size paper is used in Tray1 and the remaining trays use letter size.

Mowaffaq, you may want to determine whether you are making those changes in the master printing preferences (versus the adjusting the session printing preferences from within your application).
Click "Start", click "Printers and Faxes" (or "Devices and Printers"), right-click your printer, and select "Printing Preferences". On the "Paper/Quality" tab, you should be able to specify A4 as your default paper for all future print jobs.
    Hope that helps.

  • Office jet pro 8600 cannot print from tray 1

We have an officejet pro 8600 with a second tray installed. Plain paper in the second tray which is on default on actual printer. Headed paper in tray one which is locked on printer.
Cannot print letterhead. If I manually go into printer preferences and select tray 1 to print on letter head printer will only print from tray 2.
    Please help!
I know I can also go into printer on PC and make some settings under the installed device but no matter what I do printer will only print from tray 2 plain paper.

Hello @polecat123 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing tray selection issues.  I would love to try and help you, but I do need a little information first. I am linking a few HP Support documents below that will show you how to find which operating system you are using. Also, if you're using Windows, please include whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit.

  • Cannot print to tray 3 on an HP4300dtn printer

I installed Leopard on both my Mac Pro desktop and my MacBook Pro laptop. Got most of the problems solved, but printing to my HP4300dtn is a problem - only prints to tray 2, not matter what I do. Even though the print dialog box shows printing to be done on tray 3, it prints to tray 2 regardless. Since we use letterhead and nonletterhead paper, this is a problem that is wasting lots of time.
Also, parallels running Windows XP can no longer print to the HP printer. All was working well under 10.4.
I have tried reinstalling the original HP drivers from the CD that came with the printer - that has not helped.
    What should I do?

Seems to be a bug with HP and leopard printer drivers - you can manually set the tray using the cups web interface instead of through the print gui window at http://localhost:631. This will set the default the entire system though, not just for one print job or application. Other than this workaround, i guess we just have to wait for apple/cups/hp to resolve the issue.

  • HP 2100TN - Can't print from Tray 3

I have a Laserjet HP 2100TN. I have it configured with a Tray 3 but it refuses to print to Tray 3. It prints from Tray 2. If I select Tray 1 it works fine (prints from tray 1). This used to work under 10.4.x but has been broken in 10.5.x. I tried reinstalling (Archive and Install) to no avail. I was using the default Laserjet 2100 series driver. I tried Gutenprint version and it worked except I had to select Tray 4 for it to print from Tray 3. Gutenprint, however, only allows me to print up to 600x600 dpi whereas the default Laserjet 2100 series allows me to print 1200x1200 dpi.
I also tried installing the driver from HP and it did not work either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I did as benshaine posted in his thread here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/789780 I installed Firefox 3.5.10 to my desktop, printed from 3.5.10 and then went back into 3.6.x and I could print.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8630 won't print from tray 2; says there's no paper

    Action: Print from tray 2.
Expected Results: Paper feeds from tray 2 and prints.
Actual Results: Printer displays "out of paper" dialog.
Notes: Ever since I purchased the Officejet Pro 8630 six or eight months ago, tray 2 has not functioned. It says there's no paper in that tray. I've tried multiple types of letter sized paper. I've inspected the bottom of the main printer unit and the top of tray 2 for signs of damage; there doesn't seem to be any.
Tray 1 works just fine. It's actually a fantastic printer. The best I've owned. If only Tray 2 would work.

  • Acrobat Reader 11 only prints the first page of a multipage document.

When printing a commercially created document with printing permissions enabled, only the first page prints when printing all or a selected range of pages on HP LaserJet 4000 and 8000 printers.  Access is denied is displayed on ocassion.

They gotta fix this. It's been a huge problem for me for more than a year. I''ll defect to Chrome soon if they dont address this bug soon. Printing has been atrocious, even pathetic, i hate to say it. I can only print one page, maybe two if i am lucky. Sometimes, if it prints more than one page, the first page is mostly blank and the formatting of the text and sidebars is completely overlapped and sometimes unreadable. Basically, printing in Firefox is useless - it's a joke. I have to take the URL from Firefox and paste it into Chrome to get a decent print job. Why isnt this bug a higher priority?

  • Problem printing color only prints Black

My printer does not print the colors it shows in the display that they in and installed correctly but do not print out on the info page .It only prints out black.Example if I print a coupon the stuff on it that is in color is just blank

    Hello @Big_Show,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're not able to print in colour when printing to your HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer from your Ipad. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. First, I'm going to have you run a test to verify if this is a printer issue or a driver setting issue.
Step 1: Print a Print Quality Diagnostics Report:
    1. Load letter or A4, unused, plain white paper into the input tray
    2. On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display the second navigation screen
    3. Touch the Setup icon (). The Setup Menu displays.
    4. Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Reports.
    5. Touch Print Quality Report. The print quality report prints.
If this report prints perfectly, than your colour printing issue is due to a setting conflict on your Ipad. On your Ipad can you open Safari and go to www.google.com. When the Google page shows, try to print that to verify if colours are printing from your Ipad or not. If the colour printing issue is only affecting coupons, than this is most likely a security feature. There generally is specific coupon apps that you can download that support coupon printing.
If this report prints with no colours, than you are experiencing a hardware print system issue. Can you please click here and run through the print quality troubleshooting steps provided.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your colour printing issue. Should you still be experiencing colour print issues be sure to let me know how your Print Quality Diagnostic Report printed. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Imposed books only print one copy

    Greetings,
I have upgraded to CS5 and Quite Imposing software. Quite Imposing is quite nice and CS5 is great to work with.
I have one last hurdle : Imposed books only print one book copy on 8.5 x 15, 28 duplexed sheets in this cvase. After the first book is complete, the red attention light on the HP 4200 Duplex starts flashing, the message is "Tray one must be loaded with standard letter 8.5 x 11 inch paper."
The problem is that I print duplex on 8.5 x 14 paper.
I have tried every selection I can find but can't make 8.5 x 14 be the default size now that I've upgraded.
How do I instruct the printer to stay with 8.5 x 14 after its printed the first one at that size?
    Thanks,
    Garrett

    Peter !
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem.
Now it has occurred differently :
One sheet letter size .indd > export to .pdf > printed one copy then printer started blinking and asked to change drawers, this time the paper size change requested was from letter to legal, rather than visa versa .
I then pushed the green check button on the printer and it asked if I wished to return to drawer 2 letter size, I pushed green check and it resumed printing.
Thanks for your time, I am attempting to help so I can be proud of myself,
    Garrett

  • Printer is only printing in black

I set my printer (Desktjet 4625) to print only in in black after running out of color cartirdges, and now that I have installed cartridges and ran a cartridge clenup process (which produced great colors) when I go to print again it only prints in black. I have checked that the print in black only option is off. I have connected this printer to another PC also just to eliminate that chance that this problem is due to some Windows setting. I am lost, please help
    Thanks
    David

    Hey @DavidMiron,
I understand that you are not able to print in colour on your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 4625 e-All-in-One Printer since installing new colour cartridges. I would like to assist you with resolving this issue today. Now you indicated that after ensuring that the print in 'black ink only' option was disabled and running the cleaning process, you tried the printer on another computer. However, you did not indicate if colours printed fine on that other computer.
On the other computer did your printer print in colour?
In the meantime can I have you print a Print Quality Diagnostics report to ensure that there are no ink defects that show on this.
Load plain white U.S. letter or A4 size paper in the tray.
On the control panel home screen, press the Setup icon ().
Press the button () next to the Down Arrow () until Reports displays next to OK.
Press the button next to OK to select Reports.
Press the button next to the Down Arrow () until Print Quality Report displays next to OK, and then press the button next to OK. The report prints.

Please respond to this post with the result of the Print Quality Diagnostics Report and whether or not your PC printed in colour when you tried it. Good luck!

  • 3600 Printer - Can you print to tray 2 with items loaded in tray 1?

We are wanting to leave envelopes loaded in tray 1, and still be able to print from tray 2.  Does anyone know how to direct the printer on which tray to print from when you send a print job?  Or can we set the default to tray 2 and indicate a manual print to tray 1 when ready to print an envelope?
    Thanks.

    Hi @kceacct ,
I see that you would like to know how to print out the checks in order. I will do my best to help you.
The ADF can be used for copying, scanning and faxing.
From the print driver you can only select the tray that you want to print from.
Changing Print Settings in Windows 8.
You would have to load the checks in order from top to bottom in the paper tray, since the printer just pulls the paper in from the top of the stack of paper.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Easy selection printing to tray 1 or 2

We have an Officejet Pro 8620 with extra paper tray. Tray 1 for blank paper, tray 2 for paper with business logo.
Now, when we want to print to tray 2, we reject tray 1 a little, so that after a few attempts the software switches to tray 2, and the printing starts.
It is possible, before printing, to change the setting in the software, so that printing to tray 2 is selected. But that is quite cumbersome.
We would an easy way to select to print to tray 1 or tray 2. For instance, as seen in other environments, so that we can choose to print to:
    - HP Officejet Pro 8620 (tray 1) or
    - HP Officejet Pro 8620 (tray 2)
These could be visible as seperate printers. How can we do this?
Changing the setting everytime is not a good option. Plus, we have other software packages that we want to configure so that they automatically print to the correct tray.
    Thanks!
    This question was solved.

    Hello @Sing020,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with adding two copies of your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer to your Windows 7 computer to make printing to Tray 1 and Tray 2 an easier process for you. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
    1. Click on your Start menu
    2. Select Devices and Printers
    3. In the Devices and Printers folder you should see your installed HP Officejet 8620 printer
Before proceeding, we need to determine how your printer is connected. If you have a wireless HP Officejet 8620 printer, on the front panel of your printer touch the Setup button.  Touch Network Setup. Select Wireless Settings. Touch View Wireless Details. Take note of the IP Address.
If you have  USB Cable connected printer please right click on the HP Officejet 8620 under the Devices and Printers folder and left click on Printer Properties. Click on the Ports tab. Look under the list of Ports for the port that is selected for your printer. There should be a check next to one of the USB ports. If you hover your mouse over the Port is should show you the full name (USB 0001, USB 0002, USB 0003, etc). Take note of the USB Port number.
    4. Next, right click on the HP Officejet 8620 that currently shows installed on your computer. Left click on Printing Preferences.
    5. Under the Paper/Quality tab please select the Paper Tray (Tray 1)  and Paper Size.
    6. Click Apply and OK
    7. Right click on the HP Officejet 8620 one final time and left click on Printing Preferences. Under the General tab you should be able to add (Tray 1) to the end of your printer name.
    8. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.
    9. Now we need to add in the second Copy of your printer. Please close Devices and Printers for a moment.
    10. Click on your Start menu
    11. In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboard
    12. When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
    13. Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
    14. Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
    15. Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
    16. Click here to download the Officejet 8620 driver
    17. Once the download is complete an extraction will occur and then an install window may open. If an install window opens, please close it.
    18. Click on your Start menu
    19. In the 'search programs and files' box type %temp% and hit enter
    20. When the Temp folder opens locate the 7z folder. Click on the 7z folder once to open it
    21. At the top of the page you will see the file path. It should show something like: Local Disk C - Users - AppData - Local - Temp- 7z... Left click on the right hand side of this file path bar. Everything will now highlight in the file path. Right click on the highlighted file path and Copy it.
    22. Close the Temp folder
    23. Click on your Start menu
    24. Click Devices and Printers
    25. Click Add a Printer at the top
    26. Click Add a Local Printer and hit Next
    27. Click Use an Existing Port. Click the dropdown and choose the exact same port that your current HP Officejet 8620 is installed on. Hit next.
    28. If you're brought to a list of Manufacturers and Printers, click Have Disk on the bottom right. Right click on the file path bar in the 'Install from Disk' window and 'paste' in the file path we previously copied
    29. Hit next to complete the adding process
    30. Once you're brought back to the normal Devices and Printers window you should see two copies of your HP Officejet installed. If you only see one copy, your computer may have grouped them under the same icon. Right click on the HP Officejet you see and there should now be arrows next to all the options (Printing Preferences, Printing Properties, etc). If you click on the arrows you'll see two copies of your printer.
    31. Right click on the HP Officejet 8620 that we're going to configure for Tray 2
    32. Left click on Printing Preferences
    33. Click on the Paper/Quality tab
    34. Choose Paper Tray as Tray 2, and set the Paper Size
    35. Click Apply and OK
    36. You can right click on your HP Officejet one more time and select Printer Properties.
    37. Rename this copy to HP Officejet 8620 (Tray 2)
    38. Click Apply and OK
Now when you try to print, when you select File and Print you will see a Tray 1 and a Tray 2 copy of your HP Officejet. Just choose the copy that matches the Tray you want to print from.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your issue. It may seem like there is a lot of steps, but it really is an easy process. I just wanted to give you as much detail as possible for any scenarios that may arise. Good luck!
