HP 4100n Tray 2 Jams

I've got a HP Laserjet 4100.  It has about 90,000copies on it.  It was throwing a 13.1 paper jam error (paper late) error everytime you tried to print from tray 2.  It would just print a single blank sheet.  Tray 1 (manual feed) does not cause any errors.  I found a lot of posts on message boards stating the tray 2 solenoid that controls the pickup roller can cause this problem.  It appears that the felt dampner on this solenoid breaks down causing it to stick.  So I tore down the printer and removed this solenoid, removed the felt and goo left behind and covered it with electrical tape.  Put everything back together and now I get 13.2 error (could not eject paper).  It will just process blank pieces of paper continuously until it jams.  I looked at the pickup roller and it appears to turn continously while grabbing paper.  Not once per pickup like another 4100.  Does it sound like the solenoid is still sticking?

Did you check the "Device Settings" in the 8600 printer properties.

  • LaserJet CP2025dn - Tray 1 Jammed - RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX

I just bought a LaserJet CP2025dn. I followed the set-up instructions through Step 7, and when I powered up the printer, the screen said "Tray 1 jammed, clear jam then press OK" EVEN THOUGH THE THING HAS NEVER BEEN USED. i followed the instructions for clearing a jam, to no avail.
This is not a very promising introduction to HP products. In fact I'm mad as you-know-what.
Any suggestions on how to clear a built-jammed Tray 1 on a printer that has never been used?

    Hey Adam,
Just follow the instructions I provided in your other topic regarding this. Rad is right, as I said in my instructions, it is VERY important to calibrate the battery. Also, the program called Maintenance that I told you to download that, you need to be sure to check the boxes for: Repair Permissions, Execute Maintenance Scripts, Optimize the system - Complete Optimization, ALL of the cleaning boxes, and ALL of the reset boxes except for Reset Spotlight. You should run this application at least once a month.
Be sure you keep the MacBook box and all of the packaging in case you need to return or exchange it for any reason. Once you have done this, and the other things that I suggested in the other topic, have fun! I'm sure you will love verything about your new MacBook, and I'm sure you will also have a lot of questions. I think you know where to come to get those answered
    Hope this helps.

  • Tray 2 jam in HP CP5225 after replacing pickup & separation roller

I recently got a replacement kit for the transfer belt and it came with pickup & seperation rollers so I installed them too. Though after installing the new rollers anytime I try to print from tray 2 I get a paper jam message. I have tested the paper path & there's nothing in the way. it seems like the pickup roller isn't catching or something, I've even put in the old pickup roller and ti deos the same thing.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Paper Tray Jammed crooked in printer

Paper tray is jammed crookedly in printer.  It will not come all they way out of printer and will not completely close (remains 1 1/2" Exposed.  How do I remedy?

Hello @LadyLou1, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing jam issues.  I'd like to help!
I would recommend starting by removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest following the steps laid out in this document:

  • LaserJet 4L paper feed jams.

As the LaserJet 4L picks up the paper from the paper tray, it jams.  It has done this before and I have been able to fix it by  opening the drawer and  turning the wheel behind the black plastic rectangular thing on the far left and "messing" with the "rubberized" thing just to the right that seems to pick up the paper.
After attempting to fix it, the printer will usually print one page and then jam on the next page.
Love the printer, don't want to put it out to pasture.

Mine was picking up the paper then jamming just as it passed the main feed wheel. Ussually the first page would print but then the second page would stop right as the paper started passing under the smoked plastic sheild on top.  Finally fixed it by taking things appart and cleaning the two solenoids that control the feed events. One solenoid controls the D wheel that pickups up the paper - you can see the little metal lever against the D wheel when the paper tray is removed - the other is hidden inside the main roller assembly. Both the solenoids used some type of bumper tape (to stop the metal to metal clicking) that has deteriorated and left a sticky adhesive behind. This sticking is what throws off the timing and causes the jam. This adhesive need to be cleaned off and the machine should run again as new. I've had my 4L for 20 years, and hated to throw it out, it otherwise still prints great and the toner can be had cheap. Just fixed mine and it once again running perfect. Now I'm interested to see just how long I can keep this workhorse going. kudos to the old HP.
I took a bunch of pictures of the disasembly process if anyone is interested. Tricky at first, but only took 5 minutes the second time. (I only found the one solenoid the first time and had to go back in for the second)

  • CD Drive Jamming

A friend of mine has a Lime Rev/D iMac that has a CD drive that is jamming. It isn't refusing to open or close the drive, but the actual tray is opening into the front of the computer (as in when the try opens, it is bashing into the plastic around the hole where it's actually supposed to be). Any ideas as to why it might be doing this? Any solutions?

    The CD, Hard Drive and Motherboard are all attached together and come out of the computer as one assembly. Care must be taken when sliding this assembly back into the CRT shell, or the edge of the CD tray will jam against the plastic around the hole as you described. These instructions for installing memory will show you how to remove and reinstall the assembly;

  • HP Laser 3700 Paper Jam Duplex Printing

    Hi,
A local charity is using the above printer but now there is a problem with Paper Jam.
Single sded printing works fine but duplex printing causes a paper Jam.
It says tray 2 jam.  The paper gets stuck in the flap above tray 2 and doesn't seem to move any further.
Please help . Is this fixable?  What do I need to check?
    Many Thanks

In the printer settings on you computer, have you selected the right grade of paper? Ensure you select Photo Paper of the right type (matt or gloss) and correct weight/thickness.
EDIT: just noticed that the original post is over 4 years old! However, for anyone stumbling across this with a similar problem, it may be useful (I experienced exactly what the original post describes when I forgot to set the paper type to Photo).
Note: I do not work for HP, I just like playing with calculators :-)

  • CORRECT DRIVER FOR WINDOWS 7 AND HP COLOR LASER JET 4600dn

I'm having a problem with our IT department.  My old 4600dn worked great until they started downloading new drivers for Windows 7, which they installed just recently.  Now the one he INSISTS I use has only one tray selection.... Auto.  I'm trying to print business cards..(absolutely no problem till now).... but he INSISTS that this is the only driver. Then he wants me to choose Pg.....select 1, then MANUAL DUPLEX.  That's almost impossible for the printer. I'm almost POSITIVE you have a print driver that will allow me the tray selections I had before he installed Windows 7 and this particular driver.  I always used "Tray 1," CURRENT PAGE, it zoomed through the perforated cardstock like a streak!!!!  Now, the poor printer is trying to run perforated cardstock through the duplexing unit.  Out of 10 pages of cards, I ended up with 1 front printed and 9 pieces of cardstock that stuck in the tray and jammed in the duplexing unit.  Is there a CORRECT print driver for this particular printer that will allow all my normal functions to be visible and viable?  I don't have the model, nor serial #, as it is work printer and I'm at home now, so I can't get on chat.  He is hard to get along with and has been playing games this whole time.  I found one driver he inadvertantly left a day and a half ago and printed the cards like lightening, as it used to....7 minutes and I had 200 cards for two different staff members.  PLEASE HELP!  I think he's leading me down a merry path.  It also has to be able to duplex fairly heavy graphic pages...and even the driver he accidently left as an option, won't print the graphics.  I just KNOW you have a driver with all the options that will allow it to print to Windows 7 Operating System with all the former options.  HELLLLLLLP!
    Thanks sooooo much!

  • HP 6940: carriage stuck at left side, resume and power lights flashing

I've used this printer under ubuntu/linux for about 2-1/2 years. Color printing has always been a challenge, I get about one usable page per 5 test pages. About a year ago, it stopped printing; hp-info (part of the hplip package) said the color cartridge was defective. I was able to get black&white printing by removing the color cartridge.
This week, I had to print some stuff in color. I pulled the color cartridge out of its ziplock, re-installed it, and ran a quick cleaning. A test print showed that wasn't enough, and I ran a full cleaning, after which I was able to print a good test page, and then one page of my job.
When I tried to print the second page, nothing happened, and the resume and power lights started flashing. I cycled power on the printer (I have to do this very frequently, even for black and white jobs), but it didn't fix the problem. I pushed resume, but no dice. I pulled the back cover to check for paper jams: nothing jammed. Replaced the back cover, pulled the paper from the tray: nothing jammed. Replaced the paper in the tray. Pushed resume again: it made noise, but didn't clear the problem.
I opened the lid, and the carriage was all the way to the left-hand side. Pushed resume: a small plate in the loading dock at the right-hand side moved forward and then back, but the carriage stayed at the left-hand side. Tried (gently) to move it to the right, but it's firmly in position.
    hp-info now says:
"status-desc                   Paper or cartridge carriage jammed"
The color cartridge is an HP cartridge, and came with the printer. The paper is HP paper.
    Any suggestions?

  • LaserWriter 12/640 - 3 Questions

Hi, this is my first post here,
I have three questions, I hope you can help me:
    1) I have just acquired a Laserwriter 12/640. It prints fine from the bottom tray but when trying to print from the multipurpose tray it has a paper jam before the paper is even drawn in. Would that video kit fix this or are there things that can be checked before I buy it?
    2) The Laserwriter is connected via ethernet to my modem. I have noticed on my Netgear ADSL router modem that the port number light for the LaserWriter is orange instead of the usual green. The Laserwriter has an IP that I assign to it, but doesn't DHCP give out the IP's automatically? I remember manually setting the IP on one of my Macs and was unable to connect. So why does it work on my Laserwriter and can I do something to get rid of the orange light?
    3) This question is about printing to two trays at once (Not as important as question 1 or 2.)
What I basically want is to make a printer preset that will print one copy of a (one page) document from the Multipurpose tray (Using Recycled Paper for us) and another copy from the cassette (Using fresh paper for my dad's clients). ( I was trying this when I had our old 16/600 but couldn't figure it out )
I have set it to 2 copies, and for the "first page" to multipurpose tray and "remaining pages" to the cassette. But when I print, 2 pages will come out of the multipurpose tray (because the second page isn't actually the second page - it is a copy of the first page so the settings start again).
Is there any sort of option that can make "2 Copies" into one print job so there will actually be a second page?
    An Applescript perhaps?
(Also, it isn't very convinient to print it out twice using different settings due to MYOB closing the invoice once it has been printed, then you have to go through several windows to get it back.)
    Thanks,
    Ben

    1) Does the paper from the multipurpose tray actually jam and crumple, or does it simply report a paper jam? If the latter, it may be what I refer to as a mis-pick -- the failure to pick up the sheet of paper at the appropriate time.
Mis-picks can be caused by a worn out or glazed pick up roller. If the roller is not worn out, but merely glazed, you can sometimes get a slight improvement by scrubbing the roller with an eraser to scuff up the surface and break up the glazing. The professional way is to use "rubber rejuvenator". A reasonable sized can can be bought from:
    http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/search/center?q=laserwriter+12%2F640
In a pinch, "Goof Off" latex paint remover can be used for the same purpose. These are strong solvents, and they will melt plastics if they are handled sloppily or spilled on the case.
    2) It appears (based on lack of responses) that no one knows more about your ADSL router than you. I am not trying to be a jerk, but your manual is probably the best source for more detailed information. If you need help finding documentation on that specific model, post the exact model and folks will be happy to help you locate it online.
Perhaps the amber light is indicating it has connected at lower speed than your Mac.
    3) I do not have a crisp solution to this situation, but I have a suggestion. Print your invoices with copies=2, and place one single sheet of recycled paper in the multipurpose tray for your copy. For most printers, it will feed the recycled paper first, then (when no more paper is in the multipurpose tray) feed copy 2 from the "good" paper in the bottom tray. If you forget to load the recycled paper you get two good copies instead, so the penalty of screwing up is fairly low.

  • HP Color LaserJet CP1514n Printer paper jam in tray 2 - How to clear same?

    HP Color LaserJet CP1514n Printer
A page was torn in printing. Message: Clear jam in tray 2.
Have been trying to do just that for over 2 hours.
    Any hint?

    Lets try the following:
You will need access to both front and back of printer
    Power off and unplug printer
After printer has cooled down (nothing is hot inside printer), slide out bottom tray
Slide out print cartridge tray.  No need to remove cartridges.  Be careful not to touch bottom of cartridges.
Open back of printer.  Back door is opened by pulling back/away from device using notch at top.  Should pop open with little effort.
From back of printer, with flashlight/Smartphone, look for jammed paper.
Be careful for edges.  Not a lot of space.
Hope this help you find jammed paper.

    Hi @bblessigner
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community, as your HP Printer is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.
Click here to view the Printing and Digital Imaging. When the page opens you will see the option to 'Log in' or 'Register Now' on the right. The commercial forums are separate from the consumer boards, thus you will need to register if you don't already have a commercial account.
