grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (sorry, I think  it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.
    Thanks for any help!

You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

  • My brand new 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 frozen to blank screen with Vertical lines.  Why! any ideas before I send back to store. Thanks

My brand new 2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 JUST straight out of the box worked for 20 minutes, long enough to sort Apple ID etc,  then froze to a blank screen with Vertical lines.  Why! any ideas before I send back to store. Thanks
ps: mavericks not installed on it yet, didn't even have chance to do anything with it!

    None. Take it back ASAP.

  • I can't restore my iPod touch. It is now frozen with a white screen with vertical lines and I cannot restart it.

While trying to update my iPod touch OS, an error was encountered and iTunes suggested restoring my iPod. The restoration failed and my iPod's screen is a white with tiny grey vertical lines. I have not been able to restart the iPod. Sleep/Wake didn't do it, nor did pressing Sleep/Wake and home simultaneously go it. Any ideas?

    - Let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try a reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - The connect to computer and restore if necessary and if yu cn.

  • White screen with vertical lines when opening.

My laptop has recently started showing a white screen with different colored vertical lines across it when opening the lid. It doesn't happen all the time but often enough to be concerning. If you close the lid and open again 95% of the time everything is good - with another try or two we can always get it back. There aren't any flickers or anything like that while using it. It sounds to me like a potential connection or short in the wiring. Am I on the right track? Thanks Donny

well i went to the apple store and went to the genius bar, they didn't tell me what caused my problem or what happened but they replaced my iphone! hopefully this doesn't happen again

  • R7970 Lightning grey/blue screen with vertical lines crash

    Hi there,
Hoping to get some help from MSI regarding this issue
I've had this R7970 Lighting for about a year now and up until now did not have issues with it. Yesterday I was trying out how far I could OC with stock voltages using MSI afterburner and the screen suddenly went grey with vertical stripes in a ordered fashion (dark grey, light grey, with a pattern). The computer seemed to have completely locked up and required a hard power off (reset switch didn't work)
Over the next 24 hours I've installed multiple drivers (some people online have issues with the newer AMD drivers) from 12.4 to 13.4 to no avail (I did proper cleaning using Driver Sweeper and CCleaner in between each). I did a complete reformatting and reinstall of win7 (UEFI) to no avail.
The issue can now be triggered easily by launching any 3D program (crash immediately upon display of 3D material) or just by booting and running a few standard programs like browsing around windows explorer and launching CCC.
Is my card dead? Should I RMA or is this a software/BIOS issue?
    Thanks in advance.

if it happened when you had the issue happen while pushing the clocks up you have probably damaged the GPU internally from a frequancy it couldn't handle!
if it doesn't now work at stock clocks for the R7970 lightning then i would say you need to RMA the card as the GPU is shot...

faulty and took it for testing in store where I bought it but they couldn't find any problems and said that game I play causes crashing or some driver incompatibility.Game I play is World of Tanks.Game crashes are totally random it could happen after 15-20mins
of playing, then I restart and for the rest of the day I don't get crashes.somtimes it crashes after 2 hours then I restart and could countinue playing. Can anyone help because those hard restarts cant be good for computer

    Hi,
The latest dmps show that the crash is probably caused by : atikmpag.sys which is driver for ATI Graphic Card, I would suggest you update to the latest graphic crad driveror just reinstall as a test, you can manually look for the driver in the manufacture
    website.

  • My macbook pro keeps freezing with vertical lines on the screen

I have a 2010 macbook pro that has worked wonderfully until now.  As of late it keeps freezing with vertical lines across the screen.  To me this indicates a hardware problem, but I ran a diagnostic (restarted while holding D) and it didn't find any errors.  It seems that it happens when I move or bump my macbook, leading me to think it may possibly be a disk problem, but I'm not sure how to check this.  Anybody else ever have this problem or could suggest a fix for it?

You can try a pram reset, which might help with the display, but the bumoing thing is what concerns me.
    PRAM reset:
Power down, power back up and hold the following keys before the start up chime.
option, command, P, R,(no commas) continue to hold these keys till you hear the start up chime 2 times then release.
Reboot see if this helps, the bumping part scares me.
    Hope this helps

  • IMac 21.5" boots to white screen with vertical blue lines/bars then locks up

iMac 21.5" (mid 2010) Intel Core i3 4GB RAM with Radeon HD 4670 boots to white screen with vertical blue lines/bars:
Then it locks up after a few minutes, at which point the screen changes to white with these blue symbol things all over the screen:
If boot to Safe Mode, it still has the white screen with blue lines/bars, but eventually loads the login screen and I can successfully login and get to the desktop, but even that has the bars/lines.
Eventually, after enough restarts or hard shutdowns it will boot normally with no video/display issues. I've run disk checks, did the SMC and PRAM resets, checked logs (that I know of), and have even taken it completely apart, cleaned it out, reseated everything, put it all back together, but no change. I've read a few other posts about similar issues (but not quite the same video issue as this) where people had the logic boars replaced or reinstalled OSX, but that didn't always fix it. Any ideas? Has anyone seen this issue before? Thank you.

    Is this a dead disk?
    Very well could be.
If you can not startup from the Hardware Test, in Safe Mode or from > OS X Recovery  as discribed in the Support article's.
Dig out the original Install Disc set that came with the iMac and do one of the following.
    1. Attempt to Repair the Hard Drive.
Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Mac OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
    2. Run the Hardware Test from the second Install Disc.
        1. Insert Disc 2 and Startup holding the D key.
        2. Select the Extended Hardware Test.
Then if you still can not get anything going, you need to contact your Local Apple Store or AASP and make a Service appointment.

  • I-Mac crash with vertical lines down the screen

My i-Mac is about 4 years old, running OS-X version 10.8.2.
About 2 weeks ago my system suddenly crashed and the whole screen was filled with vertical lines - alternate blue and white.
Yesterday the same thing happened, except that the vertical lines were alternate red and white.
Both times I turned the desktop off, left it for a minute or two, and then turned it back on again. The system then booted up normally and I was able to access all my applications as normal.
To date my i-Mac has been very reliable but I am a bit worried that this 'crash' problem has now occurred twice. I have kept the operating system up-to-date and am running OS-X 10.8.2.
Could anyone please tell me why this problem is occuring and how I can fix it?
    Thanks in anticipation.

    Thanks for your help.
I have a 24" i-Mac (bought new in 2009), do your comments still apply?'
What do you think could have caused the card to develop this fault? (Currently only internmittent, but it presumably will get worse)?
I will back up my files and go and see my local Apple Store as you suggested, but do you have any idea how much replacing the graphics card on my 24" machine would cost??

  • One of first versions of macbook air with black horizontal lines on bottom one third of screen and vertical line also one third of left side of screen

one of first versions of macbook air with black horizontal lines on bottom one third of screen and vertical line also one third of left side of screen

    Hi
I've recently notice I have a thin black line in my screen.. I went to Apple store and was told it’s a hardware problem (400$+ to fix as no warranty).
This is the second time I’m having hardware screen issues with a Macbook Air (last time it was 3 months after I bought it, and it was replaced with this one)
Looks like the Macbook Air screens are very problematic!  Anyone experience something like that?
    Thanks,
    Eyal.

My mac pro screen has vertical lines... How much does it cost to get it fixed?

When you fail to give information on the exact model MBP that you have, how do you expect anyone to provide you with any specific information?
I suggest that you go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com and look for parts and prices.  That naturally assumes that you know what parts are defective and need to be replaced.
    Ciao.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having trouble with the screen. A frustrating situation to be sure. This article addresses issues with video on internal or external displays.
