Just to add then when opening a new cartridge, it's important to take the shrinkwrap and the tab marked 'Pull' off BEFORE twisting the orange shipcap. This ensures that the cartridge gets vented properly.

  • Which printers use 564 Ink?

My OfficeJet 4620 just died on me yesterday (of course right outside of warranty); and so now I need a new all-in-one printer (must be able to copy, scan & print wirelessly).  I have also bought a lot of 564 Ink recently that I do not want to go to waste; particularly as I am currently working overseas and so no way to do returns & exchanges and all of that -- so want the least amount of hassle & cost.  Yesterday an HP Rep on the phone told me the 4630 -- but I looked and that one seems to use a different type of ink.  Can anyone please help me as I'm getting no assistance on this anywhere else?

    Hi AJ_2014,
I would be more than happy to help answer your question about which printers are compatible with the 564 cartridges.

  • 564 ink cartridge

I am trying to replace the black cartridge with. A bow on the cartridge. The other black cartridge I can find, but the one with a bow; I can,t find. Was it suspended? Can I use a different cartridge?

Hi, No, other one is narrower, it won't fit. There are plenty around, and you can use XL cartridges (they are physically same size, only more inks).      http://www.staples.com.au/main-catalogue-productdetail/hp-cn684wa-no-564xl-black-inkjet-cartridge-yield-550-pages/87228337?ext_cid=RT_130715_GPPC_HP-PromoInkJuly_HP-Cn684Wa-No-564Xl-Black-Inkjet&gclid=CNjxhZ3p4MYCFcKWvQod5C0N2Q    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/hp-564-xl-ink-cartridge-black-inhp3210bk Regards.

  • How do I return unopened 564 ink cartridges that do not fit my new warranty replacement printer

HP replaced my old printer that used 564 cartridges with a warranty replacement printer that does not use the same cartridges.  I was informed I could return the two unopened boxes.  Where do I send them?  How will I get reinbursed?

    Hi there pyesangel,
Open the Printer Toolbox . There are two ways to do this:
Open HP Solution Center , select the Settings menu, then the Print Settings submenu, and finally the Printer Toolbox .
Open Printers and Faxes in the Windows Control Panel , then right-click your printer icon and choose Properties . Click Printing Preferences . Click the Features tab, then click the Printer Services button.
The Printer Toolbox opens. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. A cartridge may be running out of ink even if the graphic shows ink remaining (see the note at the start of this section). Lines or streaks always appear in printouts when the cartridges begin to run out of ink. Replace print cartridges that are out of ink or low on ink.

  • Deskjet: Can't use inks in new printer as they say "previously used", they are completely full!

Had a printer that took #564 ink.  It wasn't working, so I installed all brand new ink cartridges.  It still didn't work.  I bought a new printer, making sure it took the same size ink, so I could use the $70 worth of ink I just bought and never used.  I am getting the error "ink is previously used" and it won't work.  It is NOT previously used!  It never even printed one page.  So, just because I put them in a previous printer, I can't use them in a different printer.  They are genuine hp inks.

I did set up the printer with the inital inks that came with it.  I am still getting the error.  I went and spent $$$$$$ on another "new" set of ink and they worked.  It's ridiculous that I can't use my brand new, never used (except to put them into the old printer only to have it not work) inks in my new printer.  I hate this.

  • Re: 8220 printer Thinking of buying this printer. Some reviews talk about excessive ink use.

re: 8220 printer.  Thinking of buying this printer.  Some reviews talk about excessive ink use, especially on start up cleaning.  Comments?

I upgraded from the Canon MP990 to the MG8220 a few weeks ago. I upgraded for the native AirPrint and Google CloudPrint features.
The print head in the MG8220 is the same as the MP990. Ink usage is about the same between the two units. The first three sets of ink replacements will happen faster than the future ones. I could explain why in a short essay, but basically it has to do with proper head maintenance. A good amount of ink is used in the initial setup of the machine to align the head and also fill the head and its small internal reservoir between the tanks and the actual head.
I printed six 4x6 photos and about 300 pages on plain paper before I had to replace any ink tanks from the inks that came with the MG8220.
I print almost every day and learned with my MP990 to just leave the machine on 24/7 unless I know I will not print for days as the MP990 and MG8220 prime the ink tanks every time the machines are powered on.
If you want to get the MG8220, get it ASAP as it is a discontinued unit and at this time Canon does not have an exact replacement successor unit. I do not think Canon will have a 2013 AIO model with film scanning, CCD scan sensor, etc. The top of the line model looks to be the MG6320 with the lower quality CIS scan sensor.
Usually new Canon printers are first posted on Canon UK’s website. The new MG6320 and MG5420 for example were posted there in early September, but were just announced on Canon USA a few weeks ago.
Compared to HP’s Photosmart machines that have 564 ink tanks, the ink usage is better on Canon’s CLI-226 machines by far. The same if you want to compare Canon’s ink usage to what the Epson Artisan units use too.
To sum it up; Canon is a better bang for the buck when looking @ OEM ink usage, machine features, quality of built and you get actual USA-based support and service.

  • Printer has new all new ink and still will not print

I just got back to school and unpacked my HP Photosmart 5514 CQ183A printer. Upon trying to use it I noticed the ink was empty, so I went to the store and bought brand new 564 ink in every color. I installed them all properly and went to print again, and it still did not work. So I pressed "clean printhead" in the tools menu. Ink slowly started to appear on the paper so I "cleaned the printheads" a few more times until it was all perfect. I then printed what I needed, turned my printer off and went to sleep. This morning I woke up and tried to print again and it is doing the same exact thing as last night. Worst part is, it says all of my ink except for black is now empty. How can that be when I just bought all of them last night and only cleaned the printhead 8 times and printed 2 pages of only black ink the night before??
I bought the printer in late June of 2012 and I only use it when I am at school 7 months out of the year. When I pack up and go home I put the printer back in the box with all the orginal packaging. I do not understand why a printer that has only been used for about 14 months is haveing this problem!

    Hi hellohpthisisst,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 5514, you are unable to print after replacing the cartridges.
I see you have done the printhead cleaning a few times to try and fix the ink issue you were experiencing, please remember when doing service tasks on the PS 5514 it will use some ink. However you're right, the cartridges should not be empty. I would like you to take a look here and make sure the cartridges are properly vented: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
If you are still running into print quality issues, I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in as well as the product Warranty status: HP Warranty Checker
I hope to hear from you soon.

  • Why can't I use brand new 564 cartridges in place of 920 cartridges?

Had to replace my old Photosmart Premium Fax C309 series printer with an Officejet 6500A.  Problem is, I have all these brand new 564 ink cartridges for the old printer, which fit properly into the new printer.  But when I installed the 564's in the new printer, I got a message saying (in essence) "Hey!  You can't do that!"
    Why not?

I just happened to come across this post and had to respond.
First I thought this was a sarcastic reply to the original question, but then I began thinking, this is probably a real response.  They were probably really trying to be helpful.  Unfortunately it turns out that they wasted not only their own time in responding, but at least 67 others that have viewed the post.  What makes matters worse, this person is probably employed by HP.
HP used to be a great company with tremendous products and support.  Now they seem to just push out cheaper and cheaper printers and constantly are changing ink cartridges in hopes of making people waste brand new cartridges.  And their support has gone WAY down hill.  What used to be arguably the best support is now near the bottom.  Other than AT&T's support, I can't think of one worse than HP's now.
    Way to go Carly Fiorina!!!

  • HP Photosmart B8550, Premium Plus Photo paper - Ink refuses to dry.

Hello, hopefully someone can suggest a work-around for my rather frustrating problem.
I create and sell prints of my vector artwork. I have no complaints about the printer's capability to produce vibrant, crisp images.
However, when I used to use the printer to print off art scans of watercolor paintings/ ink drawings/ etc, I never had the problem of the ink not drying rather fast.
My vector artwork is bold and usually flat areas of color. For example, the majority of the recent page I printed was a solid, bright, sky blue.
The print -looked- awesome, better than I had hoped.
It sat in the output tray for a day, day and a half. I picked it up to slide it into a protective sleeve.
Noticed my thumb actually -took ink off- the paper, leaving an orange-ish pink, deep, and crystal clear thumb print. I knew the print was totally ruined at that point, so I wanted to see if maybe it was something on my hands. Washed and dried them, went back to handle the print. The black inks wouldn't budge, only the colors, and they were almost "tacky" to the touch, even after a couple days.
To me, that's really weird, especially when using the Premium Plus paper, and these being dye based 564 ink cartridges. I would think there's be nothing "sticky" to leave behind when the paper absorbed the dye. It's almost like the inks went down a lot thicker than normal.
I have made no changes to "print quality" settings, as I never found a different between "best" and "normal" I keep them set to normal, and the ink coverage also at normal.
Prints looks great, but I need them to be long lasting and dry, certainly more handleable than 3 days and sticky/tacky.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I have the B8550 too, and I just assumed that since it's a fairly high-end printer, it would support the highest-end HP photo paper (i.e., Premium Plus).  However, the manual states:
HP Premium and HP Premium Plus photo papers are not supported with this product.
Now, I don't know if that means you shouldn't use it, or that the advanced features won't work, or ??? Or if you should use it, what settings to use (since that type of paper is not listed in the options on the drop-down menu.)  I have used the Premium Plus Soft Gloss without any problems.  But HP seems to think that the highest quality paper you can use with this printer is "Advanced," which is their third-grade paper.  Not exactly what I'd expect from this type of printer.

There are two printers with that number but one is called the Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One which takes 564 ink.
The older 3520 takes the 27 ink.

  • Printhead / ink issues with 5-month-old Photosmart 7525 printer

It seems that my HP printer "bad luck" has not changed -- at all! After having lots of issues (and not being able to resolve them with a Photosmart 6515 this summer), I bought a Photosmart 7525 in July.
I do not print photos or color ink a lot, but when I do, I need for the color and quality to be very good. But it seems that I cannot rely on my HP printer to do that for me. I end up spending hours of time just TRYING to get something to print. I end up wasting a lot of ink and paper, but usually still have a less-than-satisfactory result -- if I'm able to get anything to print at all!
Two weeks ago, my daughter needed pictures printed for a school project. The pictures started to, print, but then it looked like some of the ink colors were running out. However, the ink status said the ink cartridges were fine! I replaced several of the ink cartridges anyway, but still the photos WOULD NOT print out correctly. I ended up having to save the photos to a thumb drive and take them to a drug store to get them printed for her project. After that, the printer would not even print BLACK ink!
However, the next day, the printer started printing color again - mysteriously.
Yesterday, I had some more photos to print. I had the same issue. The first photo printed fine, but after that, only the first third of the photos would print -- the rest were missing part of the other colors. My printer did not show any low ink -- at all. I had all "genuine" ink cartridges, too! I've never used anything except HP ink.
I am beyond discouraged! I actually talked to an HP rep at Best Buy yesterday, who recommended an HP Envy printer, but it is a tri-color cartridge. He said the problems with 7520 series were because of the way the printhead is designed (really)!
So I'm ready to just buy a B/W laser printer and give up on ink jets. I wish I could get by without even having a printer at home, but now the schools expect us to print out everything at home these days that they send us via e-mail. Since I end up having to go elsewhere to print photos anyway, maybe I just need to forget about printing photos at home entirely.
So I will be returning my printer. If anyone has a suggestion on what to get in its place, please let me know. The 7525 was almost $150, so it was not a cheap printer.

Thanks for your help RnrMusicMan, but I've already returned the printer to Costco, and they did refund my money.
The printer was only five months old. This is the third Photo"smart" printer I've had major issues with in less than four years. I guess I'm not very smart to keep trying -- or hoping for a different result.
Unfortunately, I still have a bunch of 564 ink cartridges that I can't use -- some I opened trying to get this printer to work, and some unopened.
I bought an HP Envy printer on Sunday from Costco that takes the 61 XL cartridges, but I took it back yesterday without even opening the box. My spouse told me I was crazy for even thinking about trying again. And with a tri-color cartridge, it will just be a problem with one color running out.
So for now, I'll just use our old Kodak printer or plan a little further ahead and have the photos printed outside. Every time I have a project to print, my HP printer does not print for me. I spend hours of time, waste lots of ink, paper and money, and still end up having to go elsewhere to get them printed. So, I just need to do that and forget about printing them from home!
The HP rep that was at Best Buy suggested for me to return the unopened ink to Wal-Mart for in-store credit. I tried to return two yesterday, but that didn't work. They only exchange ink cartridges, not return them. So, now I'm probably on some list with them, too!
So thanks for offering to help, but I'm done with trying to make an HP printer work for me at home.

  • Cant load photo black ink cartridge into HP 5520 printer

    Hi there,
Cant load photo black ink cartridge into HP 5520 printer.

    Hi,
The Photo ink cartridge is not intended for the Photosmart 5520, the printer uses Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow ink cartridges as listed below as an example (The same applies for the US with the 564 ink cartridges):
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03340400&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=uk&dlc=en...
As you may find below as an example, the Photo Ink Cartridge only intended for printers which use 5 ink cartridges:
ONLY for 5-cartridge printers which use Black, Photo, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow inks
Does NOT replace Black ink cartridge
