Hp 6200 desktop pc tring to connect 2nd monitor havving problem

i purchased a hp 6005 pro small form desktop pc  and i wanted to run dual monitors .... purchased a new graphics card to install  ( ge force 8400gs low profile )  but widows did not pick up that a new board was installed ...... even the softwear for the board could not find it ..... so i gave up on that and purchased a dp to dvi connector to connect to the dp on the back ...still no new hardwear could be found ....what am i missing to get this to work
thank you

Normally the system will recognize that a PCI video card is installed.  First check the BIOS and set the video to accept the new card.  BTW: what Windows version is installed?

  • Windows xp extended desktop not showing up on 2nd monitor all of a sudden

I've used a 2nd monitor as my main monitor for my T61.  I powered down today to move to another location, when I reconnected to my usual 2nd monitor, the screen just comes up blue, the cursor jumps between my 2 monitors, but there is no Windows coming up on the external monitor 2.  Usually everything boots up automatically to both of my monitors.......I've gone into Windows XP display settings, extended the desktop - but still nothing - just blue with the cursor either on my laptop monitor 1 or jumping over to external monitor 2.  Help?

    Try this:
    1. Go to Display Settings and set the Display to setting 1. (Multiple Monitors) and exit settings.
    2. Press Fn and F7 until BOTH Monitors are Shown.
    3. You shouuld be able to select  Either or  Both Monitors in Sequence.
I replaced my BIOS Battery and had the same problem.

  • 2nd monitor & app problem

i copied and pasted this from another mac forum... there was no reply. sometimes i have the same problem with apps such as cdxtract, battery 3 and Kontakt 3 in standalone mode.
Not Logic related but any ideas coz this can be very annoying if i forget to drag from 2nd monitor to the mac before hand.
I have a 2nd monitor attached to my Mac and if open an app Window on the 2nd monitor the next time I start the app the Window always defaults to the 2nd monitor (even if the 2nd monitor is turned off). Since I don't always remember that the app was opened on the 2nd monitor I would like a way to force the app to default to the primary monitor so I don't always need to turn on the 2nd monitor

The second screen is an extention of the primary screen and when you switch spaces, both will change to a different space.
There is a solution, but it requires associating the app with All spaces in System Preferences > Expose & Spaces > Spaces tab > Assign the app to Every Space.  Then as you can spaces that app is present on all spaces.
    Regards,
    Captfred
If you don't want the browser in the primary monitor for all spaces, then use two different browsers.  Safari for the primary browser and Firefox for the browser moved to external display.  Then define Firefox in all spaces and Safari to only one.

  • Connecting 2nd monitor to powermac g4 for FCP & hd lcd tv as prod. monitor?

    Ok, so I'm starting to
become a bit more ambitious in my dv shooting and wanted to accustom
myself to a more "professional" set-up. right now I'm working with my
powermac g4, 1.42ghz dual processor, superdrive, 1g ram...blah blah blah.
I suppose it's one of the more powerful models sold several months to a
year before the g5's were advertised, if all this even matters. Anyway, my
g4 already comes connect ready for a second monitor which I'm planning to
buy in the near future. I currently use a 19in neovo lcd and I'd like to
get a widescreen 19 or 20 inch lcd as my second monitor. I can't afford a
professional production monitor anytime soon so i wondered if i could use
an hd tv monitor as an alternative to see how the final product will
actually look. I'm prepared to squeeze out around $400. Also, would this
require additional hardware or cards of some sort?
Here's a link to an example of a tv monitor:

Any suggestions? Particularly in the "how to" technical arena.
    THANKS ALOT!!
    power mac g4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Well the lcd that I provided the link for would be the production monitor to hopefully see how a television would view the finished product. I've got my eye on something like the Acer AL1916W - 19" LCD WideScreen for my widescreen #2 monitor. *just in case I confused anyone. As you suggested though, I will be researching more for the # monitor. Thanks again.

  • How do I connect 2nd monitor to 2010 Mac Pro?

Hi all, I'd appreciate some help as I'm a little out of my element.
I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro tower and I'm looking to add a second monitor to it for my video editing.
There is no second monitor port in the back that I'm aware of, just the one for my primary monitor.
Is there a possible way to connect a second monitor to this machine? If it requires adding another video card or something else special, links are appreciated.

You don't need another card or USB adapter.
Your current graphics card can run up to three displays.  It has one dual-link DVI-I port and two Mini DisplayPorts.
If your new display uses Mini DisplayPort or DisplayPort, you can use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort or DisplayPort cable

  • Any way to connect 2nd monitor that doesnt just show the same as the laptop

    Hi Guys,
I just purchased a great LCD tv thinking I could hook it up to my ibook G4 and have 2 monitors running like I do with my G4 PowerMac, only to find when you hook it up theres only the option to have the screen doubled.
I know whats on the display infront of me right now... I can see it! Any idea if theres an update I can get or a setting I havent set up right to get my second screen working in tandem with my laptop?
In my experience its not like Apple to stick what is effectively a useless port on a device, there MUST be a way of doing it!!
    Cheers in advance guys!
    Gary
ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Also have G4 PowerMac

It can be done...if you are willing to take the risk.
There is a script available for download (you will have to search fir it unless someone else can provide the link) called Screen Spanning Doctor. This will allow you to run separate video on the external monitor.
WARNING! - This is a firmware hack and using it may void your warranty and/or AppleCare. Use at your own risk!

  • Yosemite 10.3.3 2nd monitor resolution problem

I just updated to the new Yosemite 10.3.3 on my Mac Pro 2011 and my second monitor will not let me choose my correct display resolution. It only lets me choose 1080i, 1080p, 720p. It worked fine at 1920x1080 before the update and filled the screen correctly but now i have the TV top and bottom black bars on the monitor and is driving me nuts. The monitor i am using is a production monitor JVC DT-V20L3DY.  I have tried the restart and the button inside and same thing. Any ideas how to fix this?

I have the same issues with the 10.10.3 release, running on an older (2009) MacBook Pro.  Graphics system for mine is the NVIDA GeForce 9400M chipset.  Touchstone is spot on, the 10.10.3 build does not seem to have a selection in the scaled display settings for 1920x1080.
However, on a much older iMac, (2007?) I have, this is not the case.  I'm running Dell S2490W Monitors as secondary on both systems, and the iMac build has retained the correct scaled resolution of 1920x1080 as an option.  This option does not appear on the MacBook pro load.  Obviously, this worked properly until the update (in 10.10.2) on my MacBook Pro
I suspect we have a driver issue with out MacBook Pro graphics chiptset and the 10.10.3 release.  I would love to hear from the community if this is a common problem.  I would hate to hear a "We don't support that hardware anymore"!

  • Mac Pro 3.1 (early 2008) lags since I connected a 2nd monitor - HELP!!

    Hey guys,
I just bought a 2nd monitor and i have lags every 5 seconds which
last about half a second (feels like 10 or less fps during the lag).
It happens with all kinds of applications. It gets worse with multiple
applications openend at a time. The crazy thing is that it only occurs
when i start to use both monitors at the same time. When i e.g. use
Logic 9.1 and use one monitor everything runs nice and smoothely
but as soon as i move the window slowly to the 2nd monitor i can
see the window lagging while I'm moving it. This is really annoying
because it seems not every input from the mouse/keyboard gets
into the system and its not a smooth workflow at all.
I switched the monitors connections but it didn't help.
    Mac Pro (Early 2008) 2.8Ghz 8-core
    Snow Leopoard ( 10.6.2 )
6GB RAM (2x2gb kingston, and the usual 2x1gb)
    ATI 2600XT and 3 HDD.
    1 Monitor 24" LG W2452T running at 1920 x 1200
    1 Monitor 22" Samsung Syncmaster 2243BW running at 1680 x 1050
I really hope that you guys can help me out with this one.
What could be the problem? The ATI 2600XT should definately
be able to handle two screens at once with such little graphics
    in logic 9 ?!
I want to run Logic 9 and an analyzer software (Spectre from AudiofileEngineering)
at the same time but its not possible with the LAG.
The problem/lags also occur when i sync the monitors.
Would a 2nd graphics card be a solution? But as I said
before its not a graphics demanding application.
Is it a hardware or software problem?
    Summary:
    - The whole System lags (not just one monitor) when
I start to use both monitors (having application windows on both).
I've got minor lags when using only one display and leave the
2nd one with the desktop wallpaper clean.
    I tried:
-using only the 2x1 GB RAM which came with the mac pro
-using only the 2x2 GB Kingston RAM
Thank you in advance for your help guys!
    Rick

    Hey all,
I wasn't able to fix this yet.
I did everything I can think of. I even tried to wire
one monitor with a VGA cable but it didn't help.
I even have small lags when I am moving the Safari window
between the 2 monitors. Really little lags then but they
definitely are noticeable. I can make a video of that
if that would help someone understanding.
Hope there is someone out there who can help me with this.
    Thanks already for any advice!
    Cheers,
    Rick
Edit: Do you think a new graphics card like the ATI 4870 would
help it? But I really don't want to spend more money just to
have 2 monitors while i have already 2 dvi connections on the
    ati 2600XT.

  • T43 extended desktop (2nd monitor) maxes at 1280x768

I use an HD Flat panel TV with computer monitor capability as a 2nd monitor for extending my desktop.  This 2nd monitor has a very high resolution capability (the manual recommends a setting of 1920x1080 for computer connections).  The T43 display settings dialogue limits this second monitor to 1280x768 pixels, even though it allows much higher resolutions for the T43's built-in screen (I currently run at 1400x1050).
I see no Lenovo driver updates that address resolution issues for a 2nd monitor, but would really like to take advantage of a higher 2nd monitor resolution in my work.  Am I limited by my video hardware, video driver, BIOS, or what?  Is there a solution to my problem?

  • Desktop comes up on 2nd monitor before showing up on Primary Display.

12 core mid 2010 macpro.  My First monitor is a cinema display connected to DVI connecter on the ATI HD 5870 card and my 2nd monitor is hooked up via the first adjacent mini-display port (with an hdmi dongle).  All works well except on boot, even though the display prefs are set so that the 30" cinema display is the primary one, the entire desktop shows up on the 2nd display for a moment and then after a "Blue Blink" everything shows up again on the primary monitor.  The issue is that all of the items on the desktop are an utter mess.  I also notice in the about this mac info pane (on displays) the HDMI connection is listed first, the Cinema HD display 2nd.  Is this a bug?  It seems to me that once you set the display priorities in the display preference pane the machine should be able to get it right the first time.  Is there something else I need to set or is this something I have to live with.

Not sure what you mean about "display priorities".  Where you plug these guys into your video card is immaterial.
Did you define the 30" as the "main monitor", i.e., the one containing the menu bar?   Look at your Displays preferences, Arrangement tab.  If the little white menu bar is not on your 30" drag it there.  That is then where your boot displays should show.
It wouldn't hurt to click the detect displays button the displays preferences and also do a smc and pram reset.
...the entire desktop shows up on the 2nd display for a moment and then after a "Blue Blink" everything shows up again on the primary monitor.  The issue is that all of the items on the desktop are an utter mess.
What this sounds like to me is that for some reason when you desktop is coming up after logging in is that the "other" monitor is where it is being drawn, and then the 30" is enabled, made the main monitor, but the resolutions got screwed up in the switching, and that screwed up the icon and window layout.  If I didn't know better it sounds like you are using SwitchResX and don't have it configured correctly.  I say that because I believe I could simulate what you describe by setting up SwitchResX to do that.
Currently I have 3 monitors attached to my system.  One is for the TV and defaulted to be disabled using SwitchResX.  When I log in I also get that "blue flash" but that is SwitchResX setting up my default monitor configuration as it disables the TV connection (SwitchResX is a login item).  But since I have a proper SwitchResX configuration my primary monitor (27") and my secondary monitor (VGA) come up properly (after the flash).  But it's that flash you describe that made me think of SwitchResX.
As for the System Profiler displays information, I don't know what order it decides to list that stuff.  But I don't think it has anything to do with a "priority".

  • Arrange option missing when a 2nd monitor is connected

I connected a 2nd monitor to my 1.9 pre-Intel iMac g5 but I can only mirror my destop. When go under Display preferences, I am not given the option to arrange the displays.
    What am I missing?
    ~reicko

That is how Apple designed those iMacs. The Intel-based iMacs were the first iMacs to allow extended desktop.
However you may want to take a look at Macworld's "Screen Spanning iMac" article.

  • HT1338 cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector  -does not detect and 2nd monitor. I have a new Mini port to VGA cable made by apple. When I read online I see that many people have the same problem - Is this an Apple defect??????????????????

I cannot connect my MacBook Air to a projector - It will not detect a 2nd monitor or display. I am using an Apple made Mini Display port to VGA adapter. As I read online I see that many other peple are having the same problem. Is this an Apple defect!!???? If so it just burst the bubble about how great macs are. I never had a problem with that on a PC. I hope I am wrong. What can you tell me?

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • After upgrading to 3.6.8 our desktop will no longer connect to our DSL system. It downloaded and installed the upgrade then refused to connect. Help!

Background: our desktop computer started shutting off sporadically. I researched the problem, reset the memory chip, checked battery voltage on the motherboard (it was okay), resinserted the battery and tried to boot. It started up successfully and connected to the internet via our DSL line. FF had trouble opening pages due to security certificates so I checked to see if upgrades were available (3.6.8 was) and I downloaded and installed it. After that it refused to work. Apparently a setting somewhere got changed but I don't know what it might be. The DSL connection works with other computers which are wireless (the desktop has a hard connection.) Operating system is Windows XP. Other browsers do not work.

Turn off your firewall and antivirus software.
