Hp 6500 (all-in-one) "General Printing Error (Ox610000f6)" displayed after first use!

I unpacked my new hp 6500 All-in-One (wireless) today. I was receiving my first fax on the hp 6500 when it stopped printing midway and started to display "ERROR. General Printer Error (Ox610000f6). Refer to printer documentation." I have turned it off and unplugged it many times. It does not work at all. Error message has been displayed all day. This is ridiculous. If I can't resolve this tomorrow it's going back to the store and I'm getting another brand.
There is also NO reference for the error code. Weak.

The original poster just acquired their printer.  In this case, the solution was to simply replace it as it was still under warranty.
The error code indicates an internal detected logic fault.  These fall into two classes:  transient events and faults do to failed HW.  Transient events are often solved by simply power cycling the printer after disconnecting all I/O.  Permanent faults are typically not repairable by the user.
I understand your frustration.  If the printer is still under warranty, then simply ask H-P to replace it.
Other solutions are to reset the printer's NVRAM.  For those with an Officejet 6500, the reset method is to press and hold the * and 6 keys while plugging in power and then continue to hold for another 10 seconds.

  • HP 6500 all in one not printing in black and cartridge is full

my printer suddenly stopped printing in black, all other colors come out fine.  The carriage moves as though it is printing, but the page is blank, where black text should be.  I have cleaned and aligned the print heads several times.  This occurred after an HP tech uninstalled and reinstalled my HP software and drivers.  Prior to this had problems on and off, but it was easy to run print and scan to repair it.  Now print and scan says they find no problem with the printer.

    Hey @Theresalbritt,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are not able to print in black ink on your HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this print quality issue. Thank you for including the troubleshooting steps you have completed prior to reaching out for support. To start troubleshooting I am going to have you print a standalone Print Quality Diagnostics Report from your printer. This report will help us determine if this issue was caused by a software or driver conflict on your computer or a hardware issue on your printer that coincidentally occured when the HP Technical Support agent was working with you. Once we determine if this issue is hardware or software and driver related I will be happy to guide you towards a solution. Please follow the steps below.
    How to Print Quality Report:
On the product control panel, press the Setup button () until Print Report displays, and then press OK.
Press the Right Arrow button () to select Print Quality Report, and then press OK. The report prints.
If this report prints perfectly: Than the issue that you're experiencing is not hardware related. Rather, there is a driver or software conflict occuring on your computer that is affecting your black print quality. Please do not proceed with troubleshooting at this time.
If this report prints with quality defects or missing black: Than the quality issue that you're experiencing is being caused by a hardware issue within your printer. This issue may be due to a defective Printhead system. In no way does the computer affect this hardware issue. To resolve this conflict can I please have you click here. Once the support document opens please run through Solution one, Solution five, and Solution six. This includes any sub-steps under the listed Solutions. However, because you note that you have already cleaned the Printhead multiple times do not run a Printhead cleaning again. You do not want to exceed three Printhead cleans if there is no difference in quality because when you clean the Printhead ink is used. If three cleans has not resolved your issue proceeding with additional cleans will just waste ink. Should the black printing issue persist please click here and run Step 7 and Step 8 to manually clean and soak the Printhead mechanism.
Please respond to this post with the result of your print quality troubleshooting. Good luck!

I'm betting that the contacts inside the printer or on the ink cartridge are dirty. This happens over time. The document below will walk you through cleaning the contacts. Let me know what happens.

  • Hp 6500 all-in-one e709n prints more than one page

    hi
just recently purchased an hp all-in-one 6500 e709n printer and on ocassion the printer will print multiple prints of the same document.  Most of the time it will print out 2 copies of the same document when only 1 was optioned.  The other day it printed 5 copies of the same document when only one was optioned.
printer is setup as a network printer on its own with its own ip.  wireless is not being used and print server is not being used since the printer has built-in network ability.
I have checked all the settings in the printer, in the printers properties on the computer, etc, on all accounts printer is set to print only 1 copy of a document.
Why is it printing multiple copies?
How can I fix this problem?
Just wasting paper with this printer and am not happy with that.
Thanks in advance for your help,

I am sorry and appologize for my previous reply.  I did not realize that was your signature and was taking it as a responce to me for asking my question.  I was really confused because I thought this forum was for person to person experiences and help.
Your answer of disabling bidirectional printing seems to be working.  Haven't had any duplicates as of yet.

  • Officejet 6500 All in one Cannot print to Fax on Mx OSX Maverics

Im on a new Mac running OSX Maverics.  I'm new to mac.  On my old windows computer, I could print to fax with this same printer.  I would choose the OcciceJet 6500 Fax as my printer and fax any document from my screen.  Now on the Mac I cannot do this.  I dont see that as an option anywhere.
    In my printer choices (when I click File>Print) I only see OfficeJet6500 E709a.  On my windows computer i will see "OfficeJet6500 E709a" and "OfficeJet6500 E709a Fax" .
Can I print from my screen on a mac like I do on windows?  What am i doing wrong?
Ive seen other people write things about sending a fax being a choice in the PDF dropdown but i dont see it there either.
Ive run all software updates I can find.  I have the latest version of Mavericks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi Daniel1963,
The fax driver has to be installed in printers and scanners window in able to fax from the computer.
    Click on the Apple.
Click system preferences, click the printers and scanner icon, then click the + sign, then select the
printer name with fax beside it if it is available from the list, then click on the add button.
(if the Apple Update doesn't add the fax driver then you won't be able to send the fax from the computer since there isn't a Full Feature driver for Mavericks)
    Try sending a fax.
Go to file, print and select the fax and fill out fax number, then send the fax.
    Thank You.

    Hi
    Can you try this.
Download this HP SW driver from HP.com
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4142&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4083...
This is a mountain lion installer, currently there's no support for Mavericks. Just downlaod this.
After you ahve downloaded, install the sw.
When you reach the page below, try to check everything.
Whne you reach this page, select the "Bonjour Multifunction" and in Use: select the the HP Officejet ******. Dont select AirPrint. You should see the HP Fax during this page. If dontsee the Fax, just wait for a while maybe 2mins. Update me if you dont. And continue the installation.
After the installation, click "System Preferences" in the dock. Select Printers & Scanners, on this page you should see the Printers and Faxes of your printer.
Please try it out and update me the outcome.

  • 1600 all-in-one series printer error message to remove and check color cartridge will not go away

Error message, remove and check color cartridge will not go away even after replacing cartridge (same refilled).  Any help would be appreciated.

I had the very same problem with my HP Officejet 7410 so cleaned the ink cartridge and carriage contacts per the directions listed on this link:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01423559&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
After my first attempt at cleaning these contacts, i reinserted the cartridge and tried printing again but I got the same error message.  Next I removed both cartridges (color & black) from their slots and after pointing a flashlight at the carriage I discovered the bottom of the carriage was covered with ink, so....using over a dozen cotton swabs I cleaned the bottom of the carriage as best i could.  Also, thinking that perhaps the ink cartridge was not manufactured exactly to its proper size and shape, when i inserted the cartridges back into their slots I slightly pressed them in to be sure the contacts would touch.
I was happy to see that now the error message is gone and my printer is printing again....well, at least for now.

Tried solving my issue with the  previous suggestions and nothing works.  My cartridge almost doesn't seem to be moving correctly.  So frustrating...any help would be appreciated!

    Hello Batemoor,
I see that you are having an issue with the error code Ox610000f6.
I also see that you have attempted many steps in the attempt to resolve this issue with no luck.
I do have a document the specifically deals with this issue.
Please click the following link for a 'Problem with Printhead,' 'Printer Failure,' 'Ink System Failure,' or a '0x...' or a 'C2...' Error M....
I realize that you have already spoken with HP on this matter but if this document does not resolve the issue, the next step would be to contact HP once again for either in warranty or out of warranty options.

  • Can I print from my 4s iphone using my 6500 series hp photosmart all in one 709e printer?

Can I print documents from my 4S Iphone with my HP 6500 series all in one 709E printer? It states that it cannot locate printer when I attempt to print.
    Thanks,

If the printer is not AirPrint compatible but is wi-fi capable, you will need to get one of the many wi-fi printing apps available at the app store. HP has an app. Some of the wi-fi printing apps have more capabilities than others.

  • HP 6500 wireless ALL-in-one e709n Printer front panel not responding at all

    Hi there,
    I have got a HP 6500 wireless ALL-in-one e709n printer.
I have been using it with my pc with windows vista on it for nearly 2 years and it has been great.
1 month ago, the front panel of the printer stopped responding, ie, when i press any buttons, the lcd screen on the printer does not change, it always show the ink level.
The printer turns on, shows that its preparing, then goes to idle state with ink level icons on the screen.
If i try to print any documents, it works with ethernet cable connected to my pc (which i used to do it wirelessly) , the cable-connected printing function still works, but wireless printing does not work anymore.
However if i try to scan something, on the pc when i open the hp scan app, it shows that 'scanner is not available'.
Also because the front panel doesnt work, no buttons respond, i cannot scan or copy.
I have tried unplug everything and reinstall all drivers and programs.
No damage to printer or my pc, it just stopped working all the sudden.
Can any one help me out please?
    cheers,
    Charlie

  • IPod Touch conflict with HP 6500 All-in-One printer...

Does anyone know of anyone who has an iPod Touch installed with an HP all-in-one printer and running under Windows 7 64 bit? If so I'd like to hear from them and see if I can pick their brains a bit. In fact, I'd like to hear from anyone who has an iPod Touch working with an HP all-in-one on a desktop system, no matter the OS.
Originally I tried to get them to work together under a 32 bit Windows 7 Premium build on an MSI G31M3-F V2 mobo but couldn't get the iPod and the All-in-One to work together. Either the iPod wouldn't synch or the printer would disconnect.
Yesterday I started with a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit build on an Asus P5Q-EM mobo with just the HP 6500 All-in-One and the printer and all of its functions were working perfectly.
Then I plugged in the iPod, after having installed the newest 64 bit version of iTunes, and it detected the device but wouldn't complete the driver installation. I powered down the HP 6500 and the iPod installation completed.
I then turned the printer on and it appeared to work but the iPod wouldn't complete the sync process unless I turned the printer off.
Then I changed the drive letter of the HP all-in-one's integrated card reader from "E:" to "G:" and rebooted and it appeared that everything was working. I brought the scanner up but didn't actually scan anything but, still, no disconnect messages. Finally, success I thought. Silly me...
Today my daughter tried to send a fax from the computer. It started the scan, stopped after only partially scanning and said that the printer was disconnected.
She then rebooted and tried to scan a photo and it did essentailly the same thing -- a partial scan, froze, and then reported the printer offline.
Uninstalling the iPod Touch device resulted in the printer coming back online and all functions working perfectly.
There is clearly a conflict at the device/driver assignment level and I don't know if its even anything that I can fix.
This should not be this hard.
Has anyone any experience with the iPod Touch running on a desktop that also has an HP All-in-One device installed?

Finally installed a completely new OS and then, before doing anything else, installed iTunes and connected the iPod. Installed everything else with the HP printer being the very last thing.
    Wa La... Worked as advertised...

  • Mac OS 10.7 printer problem with 6500 all-in-one wireless

HP 6500 all-in-one wirelss: After configuring (and reconfiguring) the printer and exhausting all the troubleshooting steps suggested by HP, I still have the problem of prints stalling in the queue or, alternately, printing very very slowly. Wireless connectivity is "excellent" according to the Wireless Network Test Report. When printing, printer is found, display says "Connected to Printer" then the barber-pole spins and spins and eventually the word "Idle" appears. Any suggestions on how to get printer to work?

  • Hp officejet 6500 all in one won't print in black

I cleaned the printhead to eliminate clogs which had worked in past.  Did not work this time.
Purchased and installed a new printhead and ran a report which showed the black ink working.
Ink levels in all cartridges, however, were low.  Purchased new 920 XL cartridges and installed.  Ran an alignment and said it failed.
Ran the cleaning of the printheads and then ran a report and still no black ink.
Ran status and quality reports and now the black will NOT print (when it was printing the day before with the new printhead).
HELP!  Why will the black suddenly not print.  The printhead is new and the hp ink catridges are all new.

    Hi, Jamison ~
I had tried many of the things you noted (from the link) and at one point got an acceptable quality report (that included black) after replacing the printhead so it was particularly frustrating to then go back to no black after loading ink cartridges.  I had done the partial reset too (as I had seen that recommendation on a forum) waiting hours for it to sort itself out wasn't acceptable when I needed to print something.
I have to admit that I finally threw in the towel and just got another printer.  I need to be able to have something reliable and tire of always sorting through how to unclog; clean; reset; order parts; get new cartridges; run through mutiple cleaning printhead cycles.  The lack of black print just seems to happen too often.
Thank you, though!  I truly appreciate you taking the time to write a thorough response for me.

Hi @jfw , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are experiencing print issues.  I would like to try and help.
It appears you have covered much of the troubleshooting already.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend this document on Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer Series.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, the best recommendation I could make would be to contact HP directly.  You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide.
