HP 650C DesignJet Plotter Rasterizing vs Vector Plot

I am considering buying a surplus HP 650C Plotter to convert for cutting vinyl Media. I realize the HP 650C uses inkjet technology and that there will be some work involved in converting the Pen UP/Pen Down functions, the mechanics of the pen carriage and such, but after reviewing the service manual I believe I can work through these issues.
My question remains, though, in the manner in which the plotter actually plots a vector line. Can it be configured to function as a traditional pen plotter, where say a vertical or 45 degree angle line is plotted in one continuous stroke, or would such lines be plotted as with any more modern printer, with the carriage scanning back and forth along the entire width of the media, plotting dots only where the line would be?
Obviously if the latter is the case then it would not work well for my vinyl cutter project.

This forum is focused on consumer level products.  For the Designjet you may have better results posting in the HP Designjet forum here.
That said, for your issue the Designjet 650c would not likely be useful - even when plotting using HPGL it converts to raster format for printing and the printing is done in swaths rather than vector printhead movement.  A surplus large format pen plotter would be a better fit and likely much easier to retrofit for vinyl cutting.

  • 3D vector plot

    Hi,
I am performing a CNC machine tool capability study.  I have measured a vertical, 3 axis (x,y,z) milling machine in all three axes using a laser measurement system.  The data I have recorded is target position vs actual machine position.  A good way of representing this data would in a 3D vector plot.
I have had a play with the 3D line graph but I am struggling to achieve what I require.  Please see attached image as an example of would I require.
Is this style vector plot achievable in LabVIEW? Can someone make a suggestion of what plot/graph to use?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Christian Aletenbach posted an example of drendering arrows in 2D SOMEWHERE on this forum. Unfortunately I did not tag the post so it will require a search.
His math can be extended to 3D to get the arrows. Each arrows can be a seperate plot in the 3D graph.

  • 3D Force vector plot

    Hi
This might be a very easy thing to do but i can't seem to manage it. I am currently using Labview 8.5 and attempting to represent data acquired from a 3-axis force sensor as a single vector. The vector should begin at the origin with its magnitude and direction represented by the orientation and magnitude of the vector plotted. The inputs are X, Y and Z forces. Any help you could give me with this would be great.
    Thanks
    John

This thread has a worse case example that you can dumb-down.
Find the part of the code that plots the line.
In your case the line only needs two points the origin and the location where the vector ends.
THat example is based on the CW 3D graph that ships with LV.
I'll leave "creating the arrowhead" as a exercise for the reader.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
Hint: Christian Altenbach posted an example that draws arrows in a 2D picture, search for that example.

  • Mac Pro compatibility with HP Designjet Plotter

    Hi All.
My architectural firm are about to order some new Mac Pro's and a new HP Designjet 500 A1 plotter. I'm currently using a G5 on 10.4.7 and have just noticed that the HP 500 is not listed in the Printer Setup Utility.
Does anyone know if support for this plotter is available anywhere?
    Thanks.

    AJ -
We had the same problem with our old Designjet 430. Both OS9 and OSX were completely unsupported by HP. We had to fork out for 3rd party software for OS9 and the Gimp driver for OSX resulted in very poor quality plots.
I've had a look and there is a HP driver for the 500 for OSX, but for 10.4 it says:
HP Printers - Mac OS: Print only HP Drivers (non-Postscript) built into Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger)
Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger and HP Driversback to top of page
The latest HP printer driver for this device is built into Tiger for print only functionality and does not require a download or reinstallation of any HP software to print.
This document applies to raster (non-Postscript) HP Designjet, Deskjet, Business Inkjet, and LaserJet printers.
In order to best take advantage of the latest HP driver and new Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger features, it is recommended that you delete original HP printer queues from Printer Setup Utility and create a new HP printer queue.
Tiger - HP printer setup instructions:
1.Upgrade install from Mac OS X v10.1, 10.2, 10.3 - select 'Reset Printing System" option (from the Printer Setup Utility pull down menu) to delete all previous printer queues. The HP printer queue can also be deleted manually from Printer Setup Utility.
2.From Printer Setup Utility, click on Add, select connection type (e.g. All, Bonjour, USB, Appletalk) and create new HP printer queue. The Printer Setup Utility is found in the Applications/Utilities folder.
3.Clean install - If there is a clean install of Tiger, follow step 2 to add a new HP printer queue.
That has me scratching my head because as I said, the 500 isn't listed in Printer Setup.
    Any ideas?

  • Reducing Plot Size of Large PDFs

I have a large format plotter and a PDF that is 157 inches long x 36 inches wide.  The plotter will handle the plot, but we do not need a plot that long.  I need to reduce the plot size so that text is "readable" - I think about 50% will work.
However, I'm testing this on the plotter using Current View at different zoom scales so that I don't waste paper.
The problem I've run into is that the zoom scale on the screen and the zoom scale on the paper are not matching up.  The "Current View with Fit to Printable Area" plot looks more like 25% on paper, rather than 50%.  Setting the view on the screen to 100% gives me a 51%.  See the attached images.   The 1st, with the "Units:  Inches Zoom:  51%" is for the 100% zoom on the screen.  The 2nd, with  "Units:  Inches Zoom:  26%" is for the 50% zoom on the screen.
Is there a way in Acrobat 9.5.2 Pro to set a definite zoom scale for plotting?  Shouldn't I be able to use the slider bar under the Preview?  I am not able to adjust it at all.
Given the length of the plot, tiling is not appropriate.

Use the pdf optimizer and choose exactly which features you want to use to reduce the file size. You get much more control with the optimizer.

  • Convert scanned handwriting (raster) into digital ink (vector)

Do any of the Adobe products (or any other software) convert raster based images into vector... specifically I am wanting to convert pages of scanned handwriting into digital ink (NOT editable text).  I will then use a suitable tablet and stylus to add/remove handwritten words to the digital ink text. I have been using Onenote and a Surface Pro and stylus to generate handwritten text but have a number of existing manually handwritten pages that I would like to convert to digital ink and then modify in Onenote or some other suitable program.

illustrator, indesign, flash, shape and probably several other adobe products can convert rasters to vectors.

  • Adobe Reader X: print to HP Plotter only on A4 Paperformat possible

    Hi,
after installing Adobe Reader X  I cannot print any other paper format than A4 to my HP designjet Plotter 750c (E/A0).
Changing Paper Format in printer driver has no effekt in the printing dialog of Adobe Reader X.
Printing from Adobe Reader X to my other Printer Ricoh MPC2050 I can change between A5 to A3 without Problems.
With the old version Adober Reader 9.xx this was no problem and I could print all paper formats HP750c Plotter supports.
Adobe Reader X runs hier on a Windows XP system. Other software like autocad works well with HP750c Plotter with als supported paper formats.
HP Plotter Designjet 750c driver for Windows XP has version 4.65 (latest german version on HP website)
Has anybody any Ideas, where there ist the Problem?
    Thanks for your help

I have just found this post and am still experiencing this problem, still, even after updating to 10.1, and still trying the disabling of Protected Mode at startup. I am running Windows 7, 32bit version. I am trying to print to an HP 4500 series plotter, on ARCH size D (24x36). Once I set all of my settings and hit print, I receive two dialogue boxes. One says "The document could not be printed." Once you click "OK", a second box pops up that says, "There were no pages selected to print." However, under "Print Range", I had "All" selected.
All worked fine before updating to Acrobat X.
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Vector image question

Hi all, I'm doing a brochure and in it I have a long rectangle with gradient in it (railroad rail) and I went to Edit > Convert to Profile > Working CMYK and then rasterized the image to work on it. Given that I've rasterized it now, does that mean I should save it as TIF or PSD or still go ahead and save as PDF? Want to make sure.

You can go ahead and save it as  TIFF or PSD, providing there are no other vector elements in the file.
If there are then save it as a PDF.
TIFF, PSD are raster only formats. Even if you have text layers and vector shapes and masks they are output as raster.
EPS - will output rasters and vector, but if you open that EPS again everything is flattened, layers and all, everything is rasterised (avoid EPS where possible)
PDF - will output vector masks, vector shapes and text layers, along with raster elements as it's in a nice little wrapper. Choosing to save it with Photoshop Compatibility will allow you to open the PDF again in Photoshop to make edits to the vector shapes, vector masks and text layers along with any other raster elements.
I think that's what you were asking?

  • Remove vector mask from fill layer Photoshop CC

I'm using Photoshop CC and I can't remove, disable or rasterize a vector mask that is applied to a fill or gradient layer.
    Am I missing something?

One way to delete the vector mask is to hold down the Alt+Ctrl (Option+Cmd) keys and
drag down from the fill/gradient/pattern layer icon in the layers panel to the trash can at the bottom of the layers panel.
You can disable the "vector mask" by shift clicking on the Shape Path icon in the Properties panel.
One way to replicate rasterizing a vector mask is to Ctrl (Cmd) click on the shape layer icon in the layers panel, add a
layer mask and then delete the vector mask as described above.

  • CS2 vector files v CS5 vector files.

My plotter accepts CS2 vector files but not CS5 vector files. Can anybody explain why and is there a solution?

    desertdriver,
My plotter accepts CS2 vector files but not CS5 vector files. Can anybody explain why and is there a solution?
Unless they can be updated, often applications can only work with files from certain versions of other applications, chiefly versions of the latter that were available when the former was created.
Have you tried to see whether the plotter driver/software can be updated to work with CS5 files?
Is it an option to save as CS2 files and take it from there?

  • DesignJet 1050C Delta power supply board failure (DPS-386AP)

Our geek club was given a 1050C designjet plotter which we would like to repair to put in service.
It appears that the standby/sense power (-15vdc) is leaving the psu board to the main board, and the power switch is grounding out to trigger the Delta power supply board to come on.
However, there is no DC voltage from the Delta PSU board. All lines are dead.
I tried bringing it up with the main cable disconnected from the motherboard, checking to see if something was loading down / shorting the power supply, but it still does not come up.
I'm starting to go through the process of figuring out what failed, but was hoping that maybe there is a common problem that I can look for.
Caps look like they are from reputable vendors, and none of them are swollen nor is electrolyte coming out of any of them.
Anyone have any knowledge of failures on this board?

  • Need Illustrator CS4 plug-in for export to HP PLT files

    Hi,
We encountered a problem with supplying the laser plotter with .PLT files (it's the only format plotter software takes). it seems that no CS4 application can export to .PLT format, why ? is there any plug-in for Illustraotr or Photoshop that we could use ?

Unless I'm misunderstanding the content, I'd much rather eliminate JPG/BMP from the process. If the original is vector content in AI, export as a vector format that Draw can open (earlier version .ai, or .dxf) and then export the HPGL from Draw.
