HP 6520 wifi won't connect

Just took a 6520 out of the box, trying to set it up/print to it from a windows 8.1 computer, after returning a 4620 printer that had the same problem.
Ran the setup software. Setup software can't even manage to figure out what wireless network the computer it's running on is connected to - useless.
Printer can find the wireless network, and when using the wrong password, won't connect, citing wrong password.
When I use the right password, it just fails to connect.
I've rebooted my router, rebooted my computer, rebooted the printer. No good. Print doctor software is useless as it can't even find the printer.
I've turned off MAC filtering on my router, and disabled Windows Firewall. Nothing.
I have an epson printer that has no problem connecting, and every other wifi capable device I own can connect to my wifi with no problem, from both Android and apple phones to tablets to four different PCs and laptops to my freaking nest thermostat. Why can't my printer manage to just work over wifi?
I do not have a USB cable for the printer (it wasn't sold with one), btw, so trying that is out (besides, I bought this as a wireless printer, not a wired printer).
Help please.

Hi MattMihaly,
Welcome to the HP forums!
I see you have a Photosmart 6520 and a Windows 8.1 computer that don't seem to want to talk to one another. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will certainly do my best to help!
I would suggest you start by following the steps for Windows 8 in this 'Unable to Find Printer' Error Message Displays on the Computer During a Wireless Network Installati... document (make sure to follow the Option two: Connect with the Wireless Setup Wizard under Step five). If that doesn't resolve it, please try the steps under Your printer has never worked over the network in the HP Wireless printing center.
I realize you may have tried some of these steps, perhaps all of them, before but often trying them in a specific order is what makes the difference
Let me know how this goes for you!

  • After upgrading to iOs7, my wifi won't connect!!!

I did the most recent upgrade to iOs7, and now my wifi won't connect at my house. My two ipads, computer, and AppleTV all work perfectly, but my phone will not connect. I'm getting the error, "Unable to join the network (insert network name here)." I have tried to reboot my phone, as well as resetting the Network Settings. Please help!!!!

The new operating system seems to have an issue with apostrophes. At least when it comes to wi-fi.
Check out your device name. If it is called something like “Claire’s iPhone” it could be the apostrophe that is causing the problem.
To change your device name go to Settings > General > About > Name. Tap on the name to edit it and remove the apostrophe. Save the change. Switch off your phone and then switch it back on again.
    Your wi-fi should be working.

It can't find the wifi and when I reset network connections it now won't even let me turn it on! Pleaseeeee someone help this Is driving me crazy!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!

Try erasing your network preferences again from settings-about-reset and erase or something like this and try reconnecting if the problem persists try changing the name and password of your router and if you it keeps not connecting you will have to try restoring your iphone through itunes on your PC.
    Hope this helped.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Mac Mini WIFI won't connect in 10.6

Hi I have a 2008 Mac mini.  I got Snow Leapord and Installed it on my computer soon after it cam out, but there was one problem- it won't connect to WIFI.  Other computers work fine in the same room, and my own computer works fine when running windows, but won't connect in 10.6.  I have dongraded (or in my case upgraded) to 10.5.8 but am missing some of the fetures of 10.6, is there anyone else with this problem that has found a solution?

    Hi Adam,
There's not really anything you can do to reset the chip. What sort of wireless encryption is deployed at your place of work? Is it 802.1x or some other enterprise level security? I've definitely seen some "wonky" things with 802.1x and Snow Leopard, it's what is deployed here at the university I work at and support. If it's something more basic like WPA or WPA/2 or worse... WEP then you can try:
Deleting the saved wireless network location
    Creating a new network location
Removing any keychains associated with your credentials for the network
There are ways to "reset" the network software but it's pretty invasive and that's only a last resort. The fact that it works at another location just fine would tell me that there's no hardware/software problem.

  • IPad 3 IOS6.0.1 update, WiFi won't connect

I have an iPad 3 and my WiFi was working well with IOS6, until the 6.0.1 update.
Now under the settings it says it is connected to my WiFi (puts the network name in) but it actually isn't. When you look it is still attempting to connect. If you try to open up Safari or an App it says that you are not connected to the Internet. I forgot the network added it again still cannot connect. 6.0.1 bricked my WiFi.
Is there a way to restore back to IOS6? Or does anyone know a fix? I reset the network settings, probably going to do a hard reset soon.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Japan bought Macbook Pro Core Duo, Vista WiFi won't connect

I haven't used Boot Camp since beta 1.0 because I couldn't get the WiFi to work with the Japanese AirMac (airport) card that came with the Macbook Pro I bought while living in Japan. I figured the driver issues would be solved by the time Leopard released the full Boot Camp so I installed it and Vista. Well my wifi detects my home network but keeps telling me by passkey is incorrect (although I know it isn't) and it won't connect. Is this still a driver issue with the Japanese airmac and the US leopard I bought? Or am I missing something?

Just tried to no avail.  I also connected it via ethernet cable with no luck.  It wont even connect when hardwired that way.  I think it was something with the AirPort Utility 6.0 that just got updated on 2/26.  This issue has been happening since then the following items are showing as installed on 2/26:
MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7
    AirPort Utility 6.0
    HP Printer Software Update 2.8
Mac OS X Update Combined 10.7.3
That is when everything went downhill.  I think it has to related to one of the updates listed above.

  • My wifi won't connect please help!!

IOS 6 Wi-Fi connected just fine when I had it but then I upgraded to iOS 7, Wi-Fi worked just fine for two weeks then last week I tried connecting to Wi-Fi because I was billed $10 for data overage the Wi-Fi option slide button will not let me turn it on. I just got new data yesterday I get new data every month on the 13th I got a message this morning saying that I used 75% of my data. Any overage is $10. I can't keep paying $10 every time it goes over my data plan it's not my fault. I've tried many things people recommended but nothing is working. It won't connect can someone help me with this I've tried everything. I'm only 14 I can only do so much. Can anyone help?

  • Mavericks clean install - WiFi won't connect

    2012 Macbook Pro with Retna
I performed a clean install of 10.9 Mavericks and now my home WiFi will not connect.
I am able to connect to the hotspot on my phone, and I can connect to the wifi at work.
2 iPads, 2 iPhones, and 3 windows laptops connect fine.
Windows 8.1 in Boot Camp connects fine.
In Mavericks, while it is attempting to authenticate I can open a web page. Network Prefrences will show an IP address while attempting to authenticate, but it goes away after 30 seconds or so, then I get the message that the Wi-Fi network requires a password and the IP is gone.
As I say, the other devices all connect fine. I have cleared them from the devices and re-joined, so I know the password works.
I know the hardware is good because Windows in Boot Camp connects fine.

Dug into the discussion posts a bit more and found this solution that worked for me in case anyone else is having the same issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23478218#23478218
I booted up in safe mode, created a new network connection, logged into my wifi, reboot my MAC... then bam! It works. I'm connected to wifi again! Lesson learned.... wait for Apple to work out the kinks before upgrading. :-)

  • File Manager Pro app --- WIFI won't connect to PC

The File Manager Pro (free) app won't let me connect to my home network URL.  I am trying to download files from PC to iPad.

In the iPad app (File Manager Pro), it recognizes the Router with the unique iPad address 192.168.1.13 and gives the instruction to go to your PC (in my home on the same router) and in your browser, type in http://192.168.1.13 to link the iPad with my PC.  I am trying to do so in order to copy files from my PC to my iPad without a cable or without using iTunes.  File Manager refers to this as a WIFI link using the address of your local router (in my home).
I really like all the features of File Manager Pro and believe that the above is how I am able to exchange files.

  • My wifi won't connect.

I have an LG Enlighten... I've followed all the instructions to connect my phone to the wifi.  That's not the problem. The problem is after it authenticates the connection; it won't stay connected. It keeps disconnecting. I've added the MAC number to the wireless router but apparently, there's something I'm missing.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • 6988 won't recognize new wifi/won't connect

Printer used to be connected to home wifi. Changed from DSL to cable internet and replaced router with Apple wifi and a different network name and password. Printer will work with direct ethernet but will not work with wifi. I have tried the utility using the ip addres and entering the network info, but it is not being recognized by my Mac as being in the network. Please help!

Hi , I see that you are experiencing issues setting up the printer over the wireless network. I will certainly do my best to help you. The software is installed by the Apple Updates on 10.9. Installing Your HP Printer Driver and Software for Mac OS X.I wasn't sure if you meant that you already had a wireless IP for the printer, but just couldn't add the printer on the Mac. Please clarify. If you don't already have a wireless IP, then try the following:Connect the Ethernet cable again, to get a valid IP address for the printer. Then configure the printer over the wireless network. Access the Embedded Web Server for the printer, type the IPv4 address into your web browser's address bar. (Safari) Click on the Networking tab, Wireless, and run the wizard to configure the printer over the wireless network. Here is a document for the printer's EWS.HP Deskjet 6830v, 6840, 6840dt, 6840xi, 6843, 6848v, 6940, 6943, 6980, and 6983 Printers - Using the Embedded Web Server. Then try and add the printer. If you are still having issues, here is some information, that I hope is helpful in getting the printer recognized on the network. If the multicasting is turned off on the router, you won't be able to add the printer as a Bonjour device.Make sure there isn't any spaces or special characters in the network name, the printer may not recognize it.The printer is only capable of sending/receiving in the 2.4 ghz band. If the router is set to 5 GHZ network you may need to change to 2.4 ghz. (rename the 5 ghz or shut it off)
The WPA key setting needs to be on AES to work correctly not TKIP.Firewall on router has to have open ports for printer.
If you have Mac Filtering you need to give printer hardware address from Configuration page. You might need to contact your router company for further assistance to check those settings. If you have a valid IP address for the printer and can access the printer's EWS, then I would Reset the Printing System on the Mac. Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol. Click the Apple icon and then click System Preferences.Click Printers & Scanners.Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.Click OK to confirm the reset.Type the correct Name and Password.Click OK to reset the printing system. Then click the + sign to add the driver, highlight the printer. (you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name) Then click on the Add button. Test the printer. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below.
If you have any issues, please let me know what steps you have taken and the results. Thank You.

  • So a week after i updated iOS 8 my wifi won't connect other devices will, i am unable to get to a apple store since where i live doesn't have them. this is the second time iPod has done something like this. I've tried restarting it and everything

so i tried to restart the iPod, 'forget' the wifi name and re join nothing happened. i also did the reset network connection. as i said please give me something i can do via macbook or home since i live no where near a apple store. Last year my iPod shut off and wouldnt work this now is happening. Do i have to restore?? and how can i save everything from deleting....??

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • I changed my password for wifi connection and now my wifi won't connect.

I have an Osprey mini. Last night I needed to connect a new device to the wifi but couldn't find the card with the network password, so I got to my account online and changed the password. But when I try to connect, it says the password is incorrect.

I am not sure that you changed the correct password, online credintials usually are seperate/different from wifi ones. Please check the quidelines on http://ee.co.uk/help/phones-and-device/ee/EE-Osprey-2-mini to see how to solutions. I hope this helps.

  • When iMac wakes my wifi won't connect, and nothing else works.

Since updating to Mtn Lion on my iMac, when my computer has been hibernating for a while (a few hours+) when I wake it, it attempts to connect to wifi, and never actually does.  While this occurs, I can't open any program, application, even Activity Monitor to "force" the task to end or anything.  My only solution has been to manually shut off and re-boot the machine.
Anyone else having these issues?  Once I reboot, everything is fine - it automatically logs into the wifi and programs start instantly.  It's as if there's a hang up that's preventing anything else from happening.
No issues with my macbook pro

Use the ( - ) button to delete the wireless network settings you currently have configured, and restart the computer. Go ahead and reconnect to your network, and hibernate. See when it comes out of it, if it's resolved. Or wait awhile
