HP 6700 and CMYK print colours

Greetings
I have a Dell laptop with Core i7 running on windows 7. I have designed a logo with red and black. The design colour was derived from the RGB palette in Paint. When it prints on my HP 6700 colour inkjet the colour of the black is fine, the red, however, seems to have too much blue in it.  but because the printer is cmyk how do i correct this? I realise colour is hugely complex when one has a screen with its colour capability, rgb in a programme and cmyk in the printer. One of the websites that enables rgb to be converted to cmyk indicated that red (255) green 0 and blue 0  equates to Magenta 1 and Yellow 1 with cyan 0. Is there a way to control the printer?
Kind regards
Dave

Hi @DaveABear
I would like to do my best to help you with this. I understand when you are printing your logo the red is printing a little blueish. You said the logo was derived from paint, are you printing it from pain or have you saved it and opened it with a different program? If you are printing it from a different program please let me know which one.
I found some potentially helpful information about advanced color management;
Using the default sRGB modeThe default sRGB color space is the most common setting for print jobs. As mentioned, most images are sRGB, and using sRGB delivers automatic high-quality color without user intervention. When sRGB is selected, the driver controls the color management. Color management should not be attempted with ICC profiles while the driver is set to sRGB mode. Doing so will usually result in lower color fidelity.
Using the AdobeRGB mode
The AdobeRGB Color Space mode is designed to provide compatibility with emerging camera functionality. This mode can be used for printing photos from digital cameras that support the Adobe RGB color space. For example, if a camera is set to Adobe RGB while capturing photos, those photos can be printed from any application by using this color space selection. For print jobs that involve significant editing or graphics composition in the Adobe RGB color space, ICC color management may give better results. Color management should not be attempted with ICC profiles while the driver is set to AdobeRGB mode. Doing so will usually result in lower color fidelity.
Using the ICM color management mode
ICM color management should be selected for the following reasons:Creating ICC profiles to manage printer color
When using an application such as Adobe Photoshop, which supports the selection and use of ICC profiles.
From the perspective of the printer driver, the ICM Color Management selection does one simple thing: it turns off printer color management. If this option is selected from an application that does not allow for the use of ICC profiles, or if no profile is selected for the printer, the resulting prints will be dark, vivid, unmatched printer colors. By disabling printer color management, the high-end user has complete, control over the color matching process via the application.

Whether you are printing from paint or another program, one thing you might consider trying is enabling the HP Real Life Technologies.

  • Print colours

I have a HP 1210 printer.I replaced the colour cartridge  with a cheaper brand and the printed colours became washed out and the picture which should have been green looked more brownish. I changed the cartridge back  to the original and cleaned the heads twice but cannot get the original bright green colours to print. Any ideas?

Having another go at this one but sadly making no progress.   Because some of my terminology is non standard I will try to repeat what I am doing to match your words.
Have pasted your text onto a text edit page and that (in the form of a text clipping) has found its way into FINDER.
Just to recap the procedure, I am working directly from the communities page with your instructions.
    ... I go to Safari > preferences > advanced.
... after selecting 'other' the screen switches immediately and superimposes the FINDER screen over the community page.   There, it is the only file greyed out and FINDER offers but one option ... cancel.
... I can find no way to type the ASC.CSS in the box where 'other' was written  as per your picture in your post before last; it's all covered by the FINDER screen anyway.
Clearly I am taking a wrong turning somewhere .... but where.    So please don't feel embarrassed if we can go no further.   You've done such a lot already and I'll go back to this from time to time to try and crack it.

  • My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management

I have recently purchased a Mac computer (updated to Maverick) to go with my Epson Stylus Photo RX500 printer which has given excellent service with my old Windows computer. However, when trying to print pictures or photos via Photoshop Elements 11, the best results I can get are using the Colour Management and Epson Colour controls in the printing options box.
My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management, The only way I can reset the controls is to shut down the printer and computer and restart.
Could there may be a setting somewhere that I need to adjust please?  I have been in touch with Epson and they say that the Epson Colour controls are part of the Photoshop Elements software but a post on the Adobe forum brought no results and I am unable to contact Adobe.

Hello Garry. Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have used a different title from "How do I post a question?" That should come after trying to resolved the colour settings first. However, to answer your question, after experimenting with all the different settings in Photoshop Elements and Epson software, I now start with PSE11 Colour settings then click "no colour management" then after clicking Print, I choose "More Options/Colour Management/Colour Handling/Printer Manages Colour" then I choose "Page Setup/Layout/Colour Matching" which then shows Epson Colour Controls but I also choose "Layout/Colour Management" which then shows "Colour Controls/Mode" I then of course choose an Epson printer profile depending on the paper I am using. I get good results but as I said, the Colour Matching and Colour Controls are then greyed out. Hope that makes sense.

  • Printing black and white when colour is out of ink

I am currently wanting to print a doc in black and white. The YELLOW is out of ink. it will not allow me to print in black and white. I have changed the printer setting to defalt to black and white but it still will not allow me to print cause of the empty YELLOW ink. Is the a way to bypass the colour ink and just print black and white?
    Thank you for your time!

Hello @tanabs , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are looking into printing with empty cartridges. Due to the design of the printhead, it requires cartridges with some ink in each slot to ensure there is no damage caused to the printhead.
I am including some info on this:

  • Black and white printing when no colour

Is there a way of overcoming this on this machine - never had this problem before although judging by this thread it is not uncommon. I am printing text documents - why on earth would it need magenta to work? So far it has been allowing me to print in black and white but now it says magenta depleted - even though I haven't printed anythig in colour!

    Hi @JoannaJ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I appreciate your frustration. However, this particular printer uses some color inks even when printing in black only. If you did run out of color and kept printing black only, you will cause problems with the printhead. FYI,HERE is the user guide to your printer, see page 98. I've also linked page yield information HERE.

  • How do I switch between the tint slider and CMYK slider under the colour palette?

I have a number of process colours loaded in my swatches palette and when I select a colour and have the colour palette on show it defaults to the tint slider. I have the option from the flyout to change to CMYK but when I do this how do I change back to the tint slider?

Once you edit the color of the object in the Color panel using the sliders you no longer have the swatch applied because you've change the color as a local override. You could add the new color to swatches, or if your intent is to globally change a swatch you sould do it in the swatch definition dialog.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Chinadoll702
I read your post about the printing issues you've been experiencing on your Mac running 10.6 and your Officejet 6700. I have a few ideas in mind to get started and let me know the results and we will take it from there.
Update the Firmware on the printer: Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates
Power reset the printer and make sure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Make a few copies afterwards and tell me if the copies pause, cancel, do not work, etc.
Try printing from Text Edit on your Mac as well, and get back to me with the results.
    Good luck

  • Black and white printing using Gutenprint

My HP printer has no drivers in SL, but I can print using Gutenprint.
    The Gutenprint FAQ says
For most users, the work-around is to set the Color Model setting to Grayscale. This is not the same as printing in black and white only, but it may give you what you want.
For those users who must use black and white only, the good news is that the Quartz Filter for Black and White still exists. It's just not tied into the print window. The easiest way to use the Black and White option is as follows:
Go to print the document. Use the item "Open PDF in Preview" item under the PDF Services drop down menu at the bottom left of the print window.
When the document appears in Preview, choose Save As... from the File menu.
You can either change the name or use the Replace option when prompted. Select the output format as PDF and use the Quartz Filter to select "Black and White".
Make sure you have the name and location to save the document as you want it. Click the Save button.
The resulting document will be in Black and White and you can print it normally.
I can guess what this means, but I am not certain, so I would be glad if someone has a definitive answer.
My guess is that Grayscale usually prints using the colour cartridge, but that following this procedure lets one print using the black cartridge only.
This is an important issue. Given the cost of colour cartridges, I only want to use them when I need colour, not for plain text.
I would also be interested to know the difference between the two colour modes available, labelled Color and CMYK, but this isn't so important.

Welcome to the Apple Discussion boards.
The product brochure for the DP-C213 shows that PostScript is an optional add on. Are you sure that you have the PostScript module installed? Without the optional PostScript module, you will only get the raw PostScript code when you use the PostScript driver.
The Gutenprint generic PCL drivers do not print color. They are grayscale only.
The product brochure for the DP-C213 does show that it comes standard with the PCL 6 printer module. The best color driver would be the pxlmono/pxlcolor driver. You can download all you need from http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/pxlmon o. You will need to install three packages. The pxlmono, Foomatic-RIP, and the Ghostscript package.
Now for the confusing part. When you go to set up the printer use the *"Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer Foomatic/pxlcolor (recommended)"* driver. That will give you color printing. The OpenPrinting database is in error and only shows your printer to be a grayscale printer, so you *do not* want to choose the "Panasonic DP-C213 Foomatic/pxlmono (recommended)" driver. That driver will only produce grayscale printing.
EDIT: The URL for the product brochure is ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/business/office/brochures/DP-C213_Brochure .pdf

  • Printing colour recognition issue with illustrator created design.

I have a macbook pro with retina display and illustrator Cs 6.
For some reason, when I tried to print my illustrator designed work at the professional printing service.
it said there are colour recognition issue. I wasn't sure if that is anything to do with the Illustrator Cs6 or to do with the retina display or the printing service.
I would like to know if anyone have the same issue, and how do you resolve it.
    Thanks.

    Ahhh,
The colour mode is websafe HEX is the design work by the looks of it and the print is using CMYK mode. Try changing the document's colour mode to CMYK from RGB and see if the blue looks darker. It should do.
Take a look at the image I've attached. I've created both RGB and CMYK variations of the hex colour #0099BA.
I think it's just down to a difference in colour mode between digital version and print. There are some really great comparison sites available that will give you a close conversion if your matching spot and PANTONE® colours too.
Let me know if your any closer to a resolution please. Interested to see what the issue is.

  • AI brushes and possible printing issues?

    Hello fellow creatives!
I have a project that I am considering doing 100% in illustrator CS6 for Mac.  ( Three character illustrations ).
The final files will be CMYK vector files.
I will be drawing the illustrations in pencil.  Scanning the pencils in, and using my wacom cintiq to ink and color the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator using the illustrator inking and bristle brushes.
The characters will be printed to be approximently 5 feet tall and 2 or 3 feet wide.
    Question:
What do I need to keep in mind to make sure that the sign printer doesn't run into printing problems with the artwork?
For instance:  Should I expand the apprearance of all of my brush strokes and gradients?  What else?
Thank you in advance for your input?
    Best Regards,
    Bill

How you export it is entirely up to you, but personally, I would do it as a PDF/X-1a:2001, Acrobat 4 (1.3), FOGRA39 file if you're in Europe. If you are not in Europe, then you may find that you need something other than FOGRA39. I do it like this because I can lock down the artwork and be confident that it's not really going to go wrong... but I understand print!
However, doing it as an industry standard format doesn't allow you to be lazy about checking for errors. I have seen people go to print without checking white text on a coloured background and the text disappears on press. In some instances (which I won't cover here), white objects can be set to overprint on a coloured background which basically means that the white disappears when you go to print. It may look OK in an unflattened PDF, but as soon as it goes to print through a RIP, it disappears... this is why I say to look at the PDF in acrobat by checking each page you create with the Output Preview. This panel allows you to switch the individual C, M, Y and K plates on and off to show you the mixes, overprints and knockouts of each object. You will also see spot colours if you have the need to use them.
If you flatten a PDF, it effectively does part of the RIPs job by creating the overpints and knockouts. A flattened PDF will be the first thing to show you that something is amiss.
Another thing to do is use the Attributes Panel of Illustrator, click an object and see if it's set to overprint. Do a test: Place a white object on a coloured background and set it to overprint, then export a PDF... there should be a difference when viewed in Acrobat.
In Illustrator, you could go to the menu View --> Output Preview and this will give you a view of how the file will print. It will show you how a file flattens and how solid blacks handle colours underneath them, but again, you will see this from a PDF/X-1a:2001 file.
I will employ a number of methods, but whatever way I go about it, I always end up using the Output Preveiw in Acrobat. On that panel is a checkbox called 'Simulate Overprint'... click it on and off, and if you see things appear and disappear, then there's a good chance it'll print wrong. Also click each colour on and off and make sure colour is where it's meant to be AND where it's not meant to be.
It sounds like a long process, but it's really not, it just adds a few extra minutes.
Having said everything that I have, somebody pointed this out further up the thread... if you're unsure, have a word with the printer as to how they would like it supplied; you never know, they may have their own joboption they can give to you.

  • How to select matching RGB and CMYK colors

Starting from scratch for a client, how do I select matching RGB and CMYK pairs?
Say we find a nice red colour in RGB for screen use, how do I then find the correct CMYK for print? And what assumptions do I have to make when doing this, if any?
Would it be the same for the other way around (choose CMYK first for print and then find the RGB equivalent)
Is it more sensible to start with a Pantone colour and then find the RGB and CMYK equivalents for that?
    Many thanks
    RobbieG
(I'm working with Ai, Ps and Id CS6)

Yes.  Better to start with Pantone reference books where you are viewing the color in a reflective environment.  As already mentioned, color on the monitor can be deceptive.  And, I think the others are basiclt saying that you should have everything calibrated and use color management policies in your apps.  There is a way to find CMYK equivalents using Photoshop's color palette.  Let's say you have an RGB Red as the foreground color in Photoshop.  If you double click on the swatch you will get Photoshop's color palette which lists the RGB percentages, CMYK percentages, LAB percentages, and HEX web color for that Red.  You can go further and select "Custom" and the Pasntone Spot color palette opens and gives you the closest Spot color value for that Red.  This however, depends on your color settings.  That's why I recommend you start with the Pantone swatch book and get the perecentages of CMYK from their formula guide which is set to industry standard color.

  • Why do the relative values of RGB and CMYK change when switching between Photoshop and InDesign?

I'm trying to put together a Colour Guide for my company's brand guidelines.
I initially worked from InDesign and wrote down all the H, RGB, and CMYK values that I got when I eye-dropped my original colour palette.
However when I put the same RGB values into Photoshop- I am given a (slightly) different set of CMYK numbers from those that I had originally documented in InDesign.
    Why is this???

    Jamie,
in Photoshop go to Edit > Color Settings and choose your  parameters:
For RGB: sRGB or AdobeRGB (1998)
For CMYK: the process as recommended by your printer (person, company)
For offset printing this is here ISOCoated-v2-eci and elsewhere for instance SWOP.
For digital printing you should ask the company as well.
    For Grayscale: Gray Gamma 2.2
For Spot: probably irrelevant in the moment. Dot Gain 20%
    Everything as shown here:
For your application I've modified my settings a little, therefore we can see top left 'unsynchronized'.
In InDesign do practically the same, but there are no settings for Grayscale.
You'll find for any topic explanations if you move to by mouse (position the pointer over ...).
The field 'Settings' shows not 'Custom' but the file name of a configuration which had been previously saved
and then loaded (buttons top right).
Further explanations on request. It would be quite useless to explain everything now at the same time.
The colors will be wrong if the settings are not synchronized. Above they are explicitly synchronized.
Because Bridge was not used, the system considers them as 'not synchronized', which doesn't matter.
    Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann
