  • Why is officejet 6700 black ink more expensive than the other colors

why is hp officejet 6700 black ink almost twice as expensive as the other colors?

The black cartridge is larger and has more than twice the ink of the standard color cartridges.
If you do much printing you might want to consider the XL version of the cartrdiges.  The 932XL is rated at 1000 pages for $32 compared to the standard black cartridge rated at 400 pages for $20.

  • HP Officejet 6700 Premium, Won't print in black ink only

Hello I have a officejet 6700 premium and im running windows 7 home. I recently ran out of the color cartridge yellow but i cannot afford to replace it right now and would like to know if there is a way to print only in black when my color cartridges are depleted. I tried selecting 'only black ink' under setting but when I tried to print it said i must replace the yellow cartridge before I can resume printing. Please help!

The Officejet 6700 premium has separate printheads and ink supplies, with plumbing to connect them.  If one of the colors has run out completely printing will be blocked as ink is needed to keep the printhead from clogging.  While printing even black only the printhead would be waving around in the air and the color portion of the printhead could become clogged if there were not sufficient ink available for servicing.  Sorry, but you will need to replace the color cartridge.
The document here decribes how ink is used in HP (and other) inkjet printers.  In the language of that document the Officeejt 6700 is an IIC printer.

  • Officejet 6700 premium , getting broke buying ink...always out but not using it much

Hi. Just joined hoping someone here can help me before I take a sledge hammer to my printer which will be cheaper than buying ink all the time.
First, a little background. Using Windows 7. I use the printer very little.  I print a few receipts, I print a daily crossword puzzle. I don't print pictures. almost no color stuff. When I print the crossword puzzles, I tell it to  print in black ink only. I ONLY use it in draft mode for all printing to save ink.
I've been using the regular size cartridges. Please don't bother to tell me that the bigger ones will give me more pages...I understand that.
My issue is that the cartridges print WAY fewer pages than they say. Yes I understand that that is just a guideline, but I'm not even remotely close.
So here are my questions:  First, is this common?
Is there anything I'm missing? (I'm no a big techie, is there any adjustment I missed?
I there a way to bypass the message that says it won't print any more untill I replace the cartridges so I can see if they're really empty? It only lets me push "OK" a few times to override print after it gets low, then stops. I tried pulling out the existing cartridges & putting them back, hoping I could fool it into thinking that I put in a new one, but it's smarter than that. and, last, if this doesn't get fixed, does anyone have a sledge hammer? (can you sense my frustration, here?)

    Hi Tom,
I understand that you have an Officejet 6700 that seems to be using a lot more ink then it should. I'm sorry to hear this has been happening but I will certainly do my best to assist you with this.
From what you've described it sounds like because the printer doesn't get used much the printer may be doing more self maintenance to keep the printhead in working order. The self maintenance does use some ink and over time it adds up, as you well know. I would recommend having a look through this Print Quality document for some cleaning tips and what not. Also, you can have a look at this Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers just to see the HP explanation of how the printer uses your ink.
I hope this helps, have a great weekend!

Thank you HP Support Forum for any help that you can provide.  I am trying to get the printer fixed prior to school starting on Monday.

  • Ink in 6700

I have a hp 6700 premium and I understand that it uses pigment ink in the black ink and dye based ink in the coloured.  As I will be out of the country and might not be able to get hp cartridges does it matter if I use all dye ink for black and coloured or all pigment ink for black and coloured?  Since quality of print is not so important but I don't want to have clogging issues or damage the printhead.  Would these choices cause any problems/

I wouldn't advise using non HP ink. Typically the reliability isn't as good.....

  • 6700 printer ink

Hey dere  -  I had a all in one #7210. What a fine device. I liked it so much when it was time for anew desk top I bought a HP Pavillian at Best Buy.  Don't you know that my all in one was not compatable with the new operating system. I got with HP rep in India and was told no help for you except to buy a new printer, and ther was one on sale at that time. I bought a 6700 from HP and even though it was not half the machine I still could print stuff.
Now to the ink problem. If the device is out of color ink it will not print in black. I got a prompt that the M ink was depleted, off I go to the office depot bring home a 933 M and the prompt says the Y ink is depleted, I replace the 933Y and the prompt says the C ink is depleted. First of all how could this ink all run out at once? Why didn't I get a prompt to replace all the color ink at once? I am really angry at HP for the loss of use of my all in one and because HP has built in a feature that prevents me from using my printer even though there is plenty of black ink.
    1) Is there a way around this pain in the butt that is built into the 6700?
    2) How about going back to the 7210 is there a way to make it work?
At this point I would get some satisfaction by using a sledge hammer on this device untill it was in pieces so tiny that I could sweep them off the side walk with a broom.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @MJZEE
I was reading through your post about your Officejet 6700 that will not print in black when any of the color cartridges are depleted, which is correct, and I wanted to write you back in response.
Please understand that I do appreciate your frustration, I really do. However, this particular printer uses some color inks even when printing in black only. If you did run out of color and kept printing black only, you will cause problems with the printhead. As for the timing of the depleted cartridges, I honestly do not have a precise answer to that as they could deplete at any time when they exhaust the ink.
Here is also the user guide to your printer, see page 73/74 for more information:
    User Manual Officejet 6700
This is some more information about Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers
Also, if your Officejet 7210 is still in good working order, you could let me know which operating system you are running and I could double check the specifications to see if there are any options left for you to use it on your current computer.
Thank you for posting in the community, have a great Thursday

I have set my printing preferences to use black ink only however I have just been notified by my printer that my magenta cartridge 933 is out of ink and my printer refuses to let me print anything. • - HP puts a chip/fuse in the ink cartridge. HP Inkjet 6700 premium

HP is scamming everyone with inkjet printers.  They will not let you refill them they have a chip/fuse that will not let you refill any inkjet line of printers...
If you search all the websites with refill instructions have been removed from the internet.

Each time you install ink it depletes 25% from all existing cartridges via priming. Huge money pit. Say all my ink is at 100% capacity. I replace magenta then all ink is down to 75% before I print a single page! Say I replace yellow next. I'm down to 50% ink on all cartridges except the one I just replaced. If I next replace cyan I'm down to 25% ink on the brand new black ink cartridge. For me this translates to $15 a page for black and white print out! How is this not a scam? Especially considering I can't print black and white document without having color ink.
Wow! 25% ? I knew the priming routine depleted more ink than the average print job, but 25% seems excessive!

  • HP Officejet 6700: A problem with the printer or ink system.

I'm not sure what the problem is anymore since I've bought new cartridges and applied them carefully and correctly.
My printer uses 933 for CMY and 932 for Black. Interestingly, it gives me this error when I installed the black cartridge. I don't understand why. I bought and applied the XL. Maybe it doesn't like XL?

I have tried that and so much more. Finally, I chose to contact HP directly and was told to do a number of troubleshooting tasks (that which I've done on my own a hundred times over). She put me on a conference call with an HP Engineer and we finally deduced that it most likely is the printer. I am receiving a conditioned printer by the end of next week and sending my defective one back to them. Thank you for your help!

  • Keep hp 6700 in good shape: automatic print quality diagnostic page every week?

    Hi all,
I've recently bought the HP Officejet 6700 Premium, and I'm concerned about keeping it in good condition, since I had to replace my previous canon printer because of a stuck printhead (the photo black one, I didn't used it for a long time).
Since I don't print much (but I'm using the ADF scanner a lot), and other family members prints sporadically, most of the time in black and white, I would like to setup an the printer to automatically print a diagnostic page every week to make sure everything is alright.
Using eprint, IFTTT and google calendar I could automatically send a file to print (I already set up the printer to wake up a few minutes before the calendar event) with black and color bars (someone suggest to print the google homepage since it has many colors but uses little ink).
Is there any chance I can directly print the print quality diagnostic page (so I can fully diagnose a problem if it occurs)?
    Thanks for the attention
    Cheers from Italy!

    Hey,
To clarify for you and answer your new questions on the printers self maintenance.
The maintenance cycle occurs randomly. It will occur after any power up, after print jobs(not every one) and any time it "think's" printhead health is poor. As mentioned above the printer to does have to be powered on for this to occur.
You can if you'd like still print off the odd test page just to check, once a month would be adaquet.
If you want to be saving power and are turning it off, then you would want it to be at least powering on and running the automated service that occurs weekly.
I hope this clarifies everything for you. Thanks for your posts.

  • Hp officejet 6700 premium printer-printer failure

I bought a HP officejet 6700 premium a month ago.  I installed the printer and it printed ok.  But after a few day of use, it suddenly stopped printing and gave a Printer Failure massage on the front control panel.  The message says: There is a problem with the printer or ink system.  Turn printer off then on.  If problem persists, contact HP.  I have checked all ink cartridges.  They seem all ok (I have only print less than 10 pages since installed). I have turned power off and on several times but did'nt work.   I have searched all over the HP website for help, but still can't find a solution for my printer problem.   I deeply appreciate, if someone can help me or give me directions to make my new printer works again.  Thanks.
P.S.  my laptop computer has Winders 7.

Did you get an answer? I think the problem lies with the blue print head with the gold pins, they get bent when you change out printer cartridges. Several folks have had this problem. I watched a youtube video of repairman saying both the 6600 and 6700 printer had this problem until HP changed the print heads. I am still fussing with HP about this but I am pretty certain I won't get any relief. Good luck

  • Yosemite and Officejet 6700

Since upgrading to Yosemite I am unable to print (haven't tried scanning function as it's lower priority). The printer and imac appear to be communicating (I can see ink cartridge levels, the print job screen says "connected to printer" but when I click print nothing happens...
A windows based computer in my home WILL print to the 6700 wirelessly and a test print initiated from the 6700 worked fine.
So far I have tried all the steps below as recommended on a different thread. Where do I go from here.
    "Bonjour Highest Priority Service

NOTE: If your printer does not have an IP address, then you will need to follow Network troubleshooting steps from your HP Printer Product Page.
