HP 7110 on 10.6.2

Was called in to help someone with new iMac and 10.6.2 who has an HP 7110. I downloaded the latest drivers from the HP site. They were labeled as only being for OS X up to 10.4. I installed and reinstalled the driver five or six times. HP installer hung at various places during the process each time. Finally one install went all the way thru to the end. There are two printer choices now, they are listed as the ip address for printing, just 192.168.0.2. And a second choice listing the printer model and MAC address of the printer apparently for faxing? Weird. If you select the ip address to print, there are no options. You can print or not print, nothing else. Apple ][s had richer printer drivers.
Is there anything else to do other than these ancient HP drivers? This is a poor joke for Mac users. 10.6 has been out a long time and the driver is not newer than 10.4?! I will never buy or recommend HP again. HP used to be a good company but they certainly have fallen on hard times.

Just solved my problem:
It turns out I was trying to put my svn repository in a network share on my 2nd local drive.

"Do not create your repository on a network share—it cannot exist on a remote filesystem such as NFS, AFS, or Windows SMB. Berkeley DB requires that the underlying filesystem implement strict POSIX locking semantics, and more importantly, the ability to map files directly into process memory. Almost no network filesystems provide these features. If you attempt to use Berkeley DB on a network share, the results are unpredictable—you may see mysterious errors right away, or it may be months before you discover that your repository database is subtly corrupted."

HP OfficeJet 7110 All-in-One USB'd to PC Need to know how to get mac to see

Hello all. I am a new mac user and this will become evident soon I am sure. I have a new macbook with the OS X 10.4.10 version. I have a 2.16 duo with 2 gb ram and 120gb hdd. The printer in question is a HP Officejet 7110 all-in-one. The PC it is connected to is a Windows XP 32-bit 1.86 duo 4gb ram. The printer is connected via usb to the pc and works. I have connected the printer to the mac via usb and downloaded the latest drivers for the mac os x version 7.3.1. The printer worked great via usb. I have successfully connected my mac to the pc. I transferred songs and other files to the mac from the pc. I have been searching this forum and apple.com support for ways to get this to work. I even tried the smb://192.168.x.xxx/Patrick/7110 format. I try to print a paper and it goes to print waits awhile then says NT_status something blah or now its saying SMB failed with status 1. I just checked the status of the pc network and i am now connected and sharing with my mac. the printer is also shared on the pc. i have turned on the printer sharing on the mac. Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Ps I should tell you how my network is set-up see if you can follow along. My house is hardwired. Meaning every room has a network connection via ethernet. SO have the cable modem into a router. router into i dont know what you call it... its like 4 boxes with 5 connections each, i guess a bigger router for each room, so my PC is hardwired into the house and my mac connects via an airport downstairs that is connected to the pc downstairs that is also hardwired via ethernet. I can see all the computers on the network including the downstairs pc, the canon printer (just cant print), my sisters MACBOOK PRO, my pc, my ps3 and xbox360. So there that is.

I tried one more time using the smb://ipaddress/patrick/7110 now it said nt status access denied...try again in 60 sec...unable to connect to SAMBA host retry in 60 sec..

although helpful it didnt solve my problem. It might be on my end. My pc is connected to the network. My printer is connected to that pc through a usb cord. Is this possible? I went into printer setup on the mac, typed in the ip address/username/printername and i tried ipadress/printer and neither one worked. all it kept saying is that nt status access denied. I dont know why it would be denied, i dont have a password on that pc. do i need to hook it up someother way or should i just say screw it and just plug it in with the usb to the mac?

Using Sun 7110 in a Microsoft AD network

I have a SUN 7110, I would like to use it as a file server in my Microsoft AD network. I have an old file server running on Windows 2003 server. I would like to move all files over to the 7110. If I choose to use CIFS is there a way for the 7110 to talk to AD. How would I create the shares and use AD authentication for the file.
I'm new to the 7110 so this might be an easy question

Hi Andrew,
Did you get to a solution with this one. I'm having a bit of fun ?? attempting to configure a 7110 box for windows and solaris access. My workaround has been to grant full root permissions to all and sundry for now (far from ideal).
The inheritence for windows users is the easy bit, as soon as I create files/folders over NFS or add a domain group into the ACL, I run into issues either reading the ACL from the solaris side or indeed accessing the directory.
Have you come across any documentation for solaris/windows interoperability?
Any help/advice appreciated.

7110 refuses to update and has huge logs

I have a 7110 which is running 2009.04.10.0.0,1-1.2
I have tried updating it to the latest release and got an error 255 saying that something generic went wrong.
The error reads "
An unanticipated system error occurred:
failed to update: job failed with status 255
This may be due to transient failure, or a software defect. If this problem persists, contact your service provider."
I also tried updating to 2009.04.10.2.1,1-1.15 and got the same error.
The audit logs files are huge with 7057801 entries. How do I clear these.
When I reboot the system is takes a very long time before the bui is working, the ssh times out and drops me to the normal
unix shell. I can see the ak process consuming over 25% of cpu for a very long time. I always log out of this emergency shell without
making any changes to the system.
Im uploading a support bundle /cores/ak.b03120ea-64a7-69cc-ad72-b0854fd154b8.tar.gz in case someone at Sun has a look at this.
I am trying to upgrade this to the latest version as it is part of a VDI 3.1.1 setup - which is half upgraded from vdi 3.1 but waiting on the storage :)

Duplex printing in an Officejet 7110 wide format printer

Hi to the forum. I just purchased an Officejet 7110 wide format printer. I am trying to print both sides of the paper ( duplex ) manually as I have done with other HP printers but the print preferences do not have a "layout" tab and there is no other place I can find where I can select "print both sides". I can't do the old trick of manually typing in the odd numbered pages in the print dialog box since there is no option to type in multiple pages, just a range of pages. This is strange, since every printer I have ever use in the last 10 years allows simple duplexing by printing out the odd numbered pages, fliping the stack over and then printing out the even numbered pages. I can't believe that this new printer won't do that. What am I missing?

Hp officejet 7110 wont print on 11 x 17 paper

I just boughht a new computer with Windows 8.1. Set up the Officejet 7110 but cant find an option to print on 11 x 17 paper. There was an option on my old computer to print on Tabloid 11 x 17 paper, but it's not listed on the drop down menu now. Any idea's?

It is odd that the Tabloid 11 x 17 paper is not listed on the drop down menu. Let's remove the printer from the computer and reinstall it using the Printer Install Wizard.
Step 1 Remove the printer;
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
Tap or click PC and devices.
If you're removing a wired or network device, tap or click Devices. If you're removing a Bluetooth enabled device, tap or click Bluetooth.
Tap or click the device you want to remove, and then tap or click Remove device or Remove.

7110 wide

Need quick answer please. ...
One of our many printers is a HP 6940 which the driver has a selection for "banner" paper. We are able to load a section of about 10-20 pages of fanfolded paper into the tray, and it picks it up and prints continuous logs straight thru, right over the folds, with no problems.
Does the HP 7110 Wide format printer have this banner option in its driver?

Any current lower end inkjet printers does not support poster printing, nor standard neither wide format printers.
Additionally any of the Wide fomat consumer products does not support Custom Sized media on Windows, only specific paper sizes are supported..
There might be commerical higher end wide format products which allow poster printing and specific custom sized media but those will more likely be more expensive... the Enterprise Business communities might be a better place to check if there are such products who meet your needs:

HP 7110 all in one printer scanner, etc.

My hp 7110 will scan and copy, but stopped printing yesterday. When I try to print a document from outlook or word or a pdf file, the printer "starts", makes some noises, and then stops and all the lights on the "all in one" apparatus start to flicker. I get a message to turn it off and on again - which stops the lights, but i also get an error symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen and have to cancel the printing attempt.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

I see that you are experiencing issues when attempting to copy or scan with your HP Officejet 6700. I am happy to help you with these issues!
I would recommend to go through this guide, HP Printers - The HP Printer Does Not Turn On or Respond When the Power Button is Pressed, and watch this video:
(Even though the guide title may not match your issue, I believe the solutions will help.)
I would also recommend making sure the firmware is up-to-date on the printer. Getting Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro 8600 (N911), Officejet 6600 (H711) and Officejet 6700 P....

Officejet 7110 wont print

Trying to print from PC to the Hp Officejet 7110 all-in-one, Printer says printing but its not??? Also while trying to print from word it says scanner failure, but im not scanning. Can't print from internet either. Tried rebooting both but it didn' help it just makes a loud poping noise while initilizing. I can copy from the top glass. Tried scanning also but that doesn't work either. Any clues???

7110 OMG, CIF and NFS permission woes. I'm tired and I want to go home.

OK, here's the dealio...
I have share exported via CIFS and NFS from our 7110 array running 2010.02.09.2.1,1-1.18
I have AD configured for CIFS Authentication.
I have a UNIX desktop so I am using SMB authenticate via AD and talk to the CIF share on the array.
I have the NFS share mounted using vers 3 on Solaris 10.
Now, the problem..........
PERMISSIONS!!!
Here’s what I want to do,
Create a file or folder on the CIF and preserve the username on NFS.
Example, I login as myself via AD, bam I’m on the array.
Create a file.
Check the ownership of the file on the NFS mount and it’s suddenly become a series of numbers. Of which I assume are taken from my Windows SID. As Solaris can’t relate my SID to a UNIX username I’m left out in the dark.
So, I then tried to set up some rule based identity mapping so my Windows login would be converted to my UNIX username, no luck still a series of numbers for me listed against my files.
I could work around this if I could chown but I can’t even do that as it says chown: filename: Not owner
What gives? How do I keep my username from CIFS to NFS? HELP!!!!

I have never been able to determine a consistent configuration for NFS/CIFS sharing on a 7310. Ended up opening access to all on the NFS side (v4) and the CIFS just worked out of the box.
I am using ID Mapping, with IDMU first, then rule based mapping next. The box picks up the correct UID/GID from AD but doesn't always inherit the user & group for the NFS side.

Where to find the fishworks appliance for SUN Storage 7110

Hi,
we've got an old Storage 7110 we would like to re-use, but some disks have been interverted and that may be causing the problem: there's just no system booting up, hence no Storage interface available. All we got in the iLO working.
Is the appliance system supposed to be installed in one of the disks in the front bays ? How to recover or to install the appliance, which seems to be "fishworks" ? I coudln't find any full release of Fishworks anywhere, only some patches are [made available|https://wikis.oracle.com/display/FishWorks/Fishworks].

So I think without contacting support it might be impossible to revive this system

HP OFFICEJET 7110 CUSTOM-SIZE PAPER

I have two questions....
1- I want to print in a custom-sized paper that have the same A3 paper width.... but an AO paper length (29,7cm 1,18cm) .., and I can't add any kind of custom sized paper... is ther any way I can do that?
2- I read that the software for custom sized paper is only available por mac OS X, why!???, please make it possible for Windows!

I saw your post about trying to print on a custom paper size. Below is a link to the printer specifications for your Officejet 7110. Please check the specs to see if the printer supports the size you are trying to use.
The second link below is instructions on how to add an alternate print driver that might give you the option to print in custom sizes. I suggest trying it out to see if that helps!

7110 and The specified domain controller could not be contacted

Hello,
Running a 7110 with 2010.Q3.2.0 Software Release and can't seem to join a Windows 2008 SP2 x64 Active Directory Domain.
I get the following:
error: The specified domain controller could not be contacted, or the domain is
invalid for the controller.
Does anyone know of any known bugs????

Recreate pool problem on a 7110 Sun Storage

Hi,
we have a Sun 7110 that runs mostly well, except when the iscsi volume fills up, the volume stop, and we have to drop it and recreate it. 3 weeks ago, to counter that, I switched on dedup and compression. No idea if it is a good or bad idea, but because we got lots of i/o hanging on the volume :
- we tried to drop again the volume via the web interface.
- after destroying it, impossible to recreate it, so we switch to the shell to see what's going on. In fact all space was filled up into the "zombie" share (pool-0/???/zombie). No idea what it is, because we never got snapshots. And the cpu was still in the roof like it was still compressing, deduplicating or what...
- we decided to connect to destroy the whole pool (with difficulty), and the CPU stop working as crazy
Now impossible to recreate it via the web interface.
- i can create the pool with zpool and create volume with zfs but they don't show up in the interface
- if we destroy again and try to create it in the web interface, we have of course no pool in the "Available pool", so I try to create it BUT i can't:

Log Devices     -
Cache Devices     -
as is there weren't any disks!
I checked : the disks are ok from the OS point of view (/var/ak/logs/debug.sys doesn't complain for example, except for a spare disk that I labeled back)
Any idea how to "reset" the storage pool?
Do I must go through the "factory reset" (I'm not even sure it can help).
Or should I forgot Sun/oracle appliance kit, and install freenas instead? :-)
Any help will be appreciate (or similar concerns :-) )

we're setting up a vmware ha cluster to serve some virtual machine from one sun 7110 4,2tb,but iscsi and nfs performances are really really slow.We can't go in production with such slow system.We have tried both nfs and iscsi obtaining througputs inside linux vm starting from 14mb/s arriving to 100 mb/s .While a simple 6k$ sas external storage arrive to 220 mb/s of write throughput inside vm.
Why Oracle sells sun 7110s for virtualization,as written in www.techdirt.com/iti/resources/midsize_vmware_intel.pdf (written by oracle)??
