HP 7210 running correctly with Tiger and Classic ?

I would like to buy a new printer which would be running
perfectly under Tiger and Classic.
Did you test this one with success?
I'm asking this question because:
- The HP web server isn't sufficiently clear about this
point.
- The technical persons I got on the phone at HP hotline
were worse.
Could you advise me a color printer (with scanner and
copier) which is running without a problem on:
- Panther,
- Tiger,
- Classic on Tiger?
dan

Classic printing is a mixed bag. I do know Cannon's website actually lists certain printers as compatible with Classic. I haven't seen such specifications in any other manufacturer's website. I might add though, some printers can be made Classic compatible with these articles' info:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300849
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh660.html
I suggest getting the printer from a place with a liberal return policy so if neither of these work, you can try another printer.
What program do you need that you don't have to be Mac OS X native? Perhaps I can recommend an alternative which is.

Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I am using a brand new IMAC, I have 16GB RAM recently updated as it was running slow with 8GB and lots of hardrive space. When it crashes, i lose all my presents and it changes my preferences, it also fails to save or produce a recovered file despite settings asking it to do so every 5 mins now. When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.

If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins.

  • AI have an iPad and iPhone but am stuck with Tiger and Leopard. Will I stir be able to get my email on my PowerBook if I after I upgrade to iCloud?  I don't have the cash to upgrade the mac right now.

I have an iPad and iPhone but am stuck with Tiger and Leopard on my old powerbook G4.  Will I still be able to get my email on my PowerBook after I upgrade to iCloud?  I don't have the cash to upgrade the mac right now.  Just wondering what my email options are.  Thank You.

You will be able to get your mail on the PowerBook. The calendars (iCal) will not sync; any events added to iPad and/or iPhone will not sync with the Mac but will sync with each other (that is: the mobile devices which are on iCloud). My  MacBook Pro (Lion) and iPad2 (iOS5) sync fine; I still get my Mail on iBook G4, MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) and iMac (Snow Leopard).

  • Running Microsoft Office 2001 with Tiger vs Classic

    Mac experts,
Okay, I have a couple of questions. First, I recently installed Tiger 10.4 on my G3 laptop. Runs great eventhough I know I'm pushing the envelope with only 128 MB of memory and at 400 MHz speed. Anyhow, since I also run several programs that required the Classic environment, I went ahead and installed 9.2.2 as well. Both systems seem to work well with each other. I then decided to update to Microsoft Office 2001 which went smoothly as well. The problem (and maybe it's not a problem) is only Classic will run Office eventhough Tiger will run Office for me on my iMac (G4). Is there a way to tell my little ole G3 laptop to run Office from Tiger instead of Classic. I have encounter some freez-ups when working in Office (just Word so far). I would be working and periodically hit save to save the work and several times, when save was hit the machinge would freeze up and require me to do a force quit. Anyhow, any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated.
Second question. I take a lot of pictures and use iLife to make slide shows and movies. My iMAc has only a 20 GB harddrive so as you can imagine it fills up rather quickly. I purchased a 300 GB external harddrive to store all of my "productions" but was wondering if there is a way to automatically save photos in iphoto and music in itunes directly to the external harddrive instead of periodically making the transfer manually?
Thanks guys for all your help!
    Mark

You need Office X or Office 2004 to run it natively in Mac OS X.
As for iTunes/iPhoto you can set where documents are stored in the preferences section of each application.

  • How do I do a Clean install of Tiger and Classic?

My G4 came with Jaguar. OS 9 was part of the complete installation, that you could install or choose not to install. My computer has been having a lot of issues lately and I think that a clean install would be a good idea, especially, since I used an upgrade to install Panther and then installed Tiger on top of Panther. I want to install classic and Tiger. How do I do this properly? Thanks

I plan to back up my personal files and any
    downloaded software I have.
Amazing that. You've told us that numerous times, but
you've failed to provide us with information on
HOW you're going to do this. That is, please
explain WHAT you're using for the backup and
WHERE you're planning on using to store the
    backup.
All Power Macs come with the capability of burning CD's today. Mine can also burn DVD's, so backing up MY files is NOT a problem. I just can't clone my whole drive. Now, I'm not sure how this is pertinent in answering my question about how to properly do a clean install of Tiger and be able to install Classic. My son however, just told me he thinks that all I need to do is to clean-install Tiger. Then, insert the installation CD with classic on it that came with my computer. Find the invisible file, which is a disk image and drag the contents of the disk image to my computer. If anyone can tell me if this is correct, I would appreciate it.

  • IMac (Original shipped with Tiger) and Front Row

    Quick question
If i have an iMac, the first one that was shipped with Tiger back in June 2005 and i purchase the Apple Remote, will it be compatible with my computer and will it come with Front Row, or is it exclusively only for iMac's shipping with the Remote and iPods with a Universal Dock?

Is your profile correct? Is there a reason you're still running Mac OS X 10.4.6? I think you'll need to make sure your iLife applications and iTunes are up-to-date as well as Mac OS X for everything to work correctly together. Mac OS X can be updated to 10.4.11, iTunes can be updated to 7.6.1 and QuickTime can be updated to 7.4.5 all for free. Which version of iLife do you have? '06 or '08? You'll need to make sure you have the most recent versions of iPhoto as well...

  • Why do Yahoo Flash videos not always run correctly in Chrome and Firefox/Windows 8?

I upgraded early last month to Windows 8 Pro.
Running Yahoo! News and other videos (Yahoo! Screen, etc.; virtually all Yahoo branded products) I get a black screen, no error message on Chrome and Firefox. The videos run correctly on Internet Explorer.
I have not found a way to run these videos at all in Firefox or the 64-bit Waterfox.
In Chrome, I can DISABLE the internal Pepper-based Flash player and the videos will run (but nothing ELSE will: no YouTube, etc.)
I can keep a plug-ins page open in Chrome and repeatedly enable and disable the internal Flash player; I can copy and paste the URL for what I'm watching back into IE...or perhaps some kind and knowing person here will have a better idea. For me, I sense a bug somewhere. BTW...this machine dual-boots Win8 and WIn7. The problem does not exist in Win7. Please don't suggest going back to Win7; that's a VERY mature (translate SLOW and quirky; survived repeated change of motherboard and other major components) install that I'm continually weaning myself away from and rarely boot into it anymore (Win8 boots from SSD and is blazingly fast, Win7 not so much).
I have not found any site other than the ENTIRE Yahoo site that has this problem!
    Jay from the Bronx

I'm back! Actually, this issue has been happening to me every now & then but I'd just given up on dealing with it. But now I'm motivated again.
I clicked on a video link in Facebook that sent me to NASCAR | Facebook which turns from the https URL to those two words on this site for some odd reason, and it just popped a box telling me saying Flash Player Upgrade Required - Get Flash Player and the video's image never displayed under that and it couldn't be played.
Then once again I went thru all of the steps to insure that both I do actually have Flash Player and that it is Enabled. I do and it is. I also read somewhere to click the gear icon in IE then click Safety > ActiveX Filtering. I do that and I see a checkmark next to ActiveX Filtering. I've tried it both with a checkmark and without one and there's no difference.
I have Windows 8.1 fully updated, IE-11 and Flash Player
I see the swinging tire swing image in #5. Verify if Flash Player is installed at Flash Player Help.

  • Anyone bought a imac in UK with Tiger and ordered Leopard disk for £5.95

Im looking at buying a iMac, I can get 10% discount from Comet and so am thinking of going there.
However there iMacs come with Tiger on, but I belive that if you buy an iMac after 27th Oct (ie now) then for £5.95 you can get Leopard sent to you from Apple?
    1) Has anyone done this?
    2) How long did the disk take to arrive?
    3) Do you still get iLife 08 with Tiger bought formthe shop?
    4) Did everything go smooth on the upgrade?

    Ian,
Will is correct that neither Tiger or Leopard included iLife however Panther did include iMovie and iPhoto.
    the loc-man,
Each new Mac will have an software bundle on one or more discs that will include both a copy of OS X and iLife etc. This is where the confusion comes in when the bundle is on a single disc.
Although I did order an iMac on 10 Oct and ordered a UTD copy of Leopard for £5.95 on 25 Oct I couldn't answer your question as I haven't used the disc preferring instead to use the separate Retail disc I had for the Powerbook. (So I do have two licenses but only used one disc )
    cheers

  • [FIXED] Compiz runs only with emerald and crashes with metacity

    Hey,
I currently try to use a metacity theme and have compiz enabled but apparently that's something compiz doesn't really like.
One think i noticed in fusion-icon is that the entire metacity option under: "Select Window Devorator" is just not there.. (or was that always the case?)
Oke, things i have done so far:
    - Search this forum (obviously) nothing found with a solution
    - Searched the wiki (same results)
    - in gconf-editor /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager set to compiz (like said in the Compiz wiki page on archlinux.org
    - disabled metacity as compositing manager (tried with enabled as well but the same results)
    - right now i have the compiz bash script from ubuntu (tweaked a little) and that starts up compiz just fine but not with metacity
And incase you want the script:
    #!/bin/sh

Wait, what, I thought metacity isn't as window decorator, it is a window manager, right? I don't really get what you're trying to do... maybe install compiz-decorator-gtk and use it instead of emerald?
edit: aaah, yes, I think you're missing compiz-decorator-gtk, try that, look at fusion icon "window decorator" option again.
Strange.. i was under the impression that pacman -S compiz-fusion would install GTK and QT decorators... guess not.
This issue is fixed now. Running metacity decorations now WITH compiz.

  • Canupus 110 video convertor will it work with Tiger and i Movie HD 5 or 6.

I am going to buy a video convertor box for my i Mac G5. I am just having way to much probloms with my Director's Cut 2. I got my Mac Christmas and it came with Tiger already built in. I am wondering will the Canupus 110 work with i Movie HD and Tiger thanks.

    Hi C
Sorry You had to wait. Took a while to make a test environment (iLife6 was
    late).
Now I've tested my Canopus ADVC-300 (have no 110) and Mac OS X.4.5
    QT 7.0.4 and iMovie 6.0.1.
    Result: Worked like a Charm.
If You consider buying a new one. Look at the 300 - and more so if You have
old VHS or other analog tapes. They often have drop-outs and I get the
feeling of that this one fix it one way or another. I'm very impressed.

  • Is Photoshop Elements 2 compatible with Tiger and iWeb?

I went to the Version Tracker site but could not navigate well enough to find Photoshop Elements 2. There was a lot about Photoshop Elements 4, but not 2.
I then went to Adobe.com to find information but without results. When I entered Photoshop Elements 2 I got routed to a long list of problems, but not the more generalized issue of compatibility with OS 10.4/Tiger.
So I return to this forum with the simple question: If I upgrade to Tiger and then to iLife '06, will my existing Photoshop Elements 2 be compatible with both?
Thank you in advance for any answers to my question..........

Regarding Photoshop Elements 2 vs. Photoshop Elements
4... these are simply versions of the same basic
program. You know how software companies do things.
They pack a couple more features in and give the
software a new number every few months in the hopes
of selling a few more copies.
James, the incident that stuck in my memory was about my cousin Dale, who is a musician. He was using a certain songwriting program and was not able to upgrade to Jaguar, I think (or Panther?) because, according to him, that music writing program would not be able to work on Panther! I extrapolated from that.........

  • GenerationType.AUTO doesn't work correctly with Kodo and MySQL

    Greetings,
I'm migrating applications from JBoss/Hibernate to WebLogic/Kodo. The following column annotation:
    @Id
    @Column(name="CUSTOMER_ID")
    @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.AUTO)
    public long getCustomerId()
is supposed to generate auto-increment primary key in mysql. This is what happens with Hibernate. With Kodo, this seems to be equivalent with GenerationType.TABLE as a table named openjpa_sequence_table is created, containing sequence values. So what should one do in order to be able to use true auto-increment strategy with MySQL and Kodo ?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Nicolas

    Hi Nicolas,
By setting the generation strategy to AUTO, you're essentially letting the JPA provider choose which strategy to use. It looks like Kodo is using the TABLE strategy by default and Hibernate is using the IDENTITY strategy here. You can set the strategy to IDENTITY if you want Kodo to behave similarly to Hibernate. However, it's worth pointing out that there may be a reason for Kodo not using the IDENTITY strategy by default.
    The docs at: http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/kodo/full/html/ref_guide_pc_oid.html#ref_guide_pc_oid_pkgen_autoinc
    point out the following:
"Statements inserting into tables with auto-increment / identity columns cannot be batched. After each insert, Kodo must go back to the database to retrieve the last inserted auto-increment value to set back in the persistent object. This can have a negative impact on performance. "

  • Installing Tiger and classic on an external drive

I'm trying to install Tiger so I can run classic on an external drive to play the one or two games that are still not compatible with X. When I boot my Tiger install DVD on my Powerbook G4, it goes in to Open Firmware.
    Any suggestions??

Well...I posted here cause I have leopard on the machine, and thought it was related.
    anyhow..I have a Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz.
I thought for sure I had booted from the Tiger retail DVD before. I guess i'll need to look for my Powerbook discs (wish me luck).

  • G5 - Tiger and Classic

Will a G5 desktop run the Classic environment under Tiger?

    Hi, Frogford -
That machine came with a model-specific version of OS 9.2.2, probably on a separate install disk. That is the only source that machine can use to install OS 9 (Classic).
It is not necessary to partition the hard drive in order to install Classic (OS 9) - the two OS's are designed to cohabit the same volume without conflict.
Many folk do partition their drives so that OS 9 and OSX are separated. The bad news is, in order to do that you will need to partition the drive, which erases everything on it; this means it is necessary to back up all data you don't want to lose before partitioning it.
In either case, in order to install OS 9 on the drive OS 9 drivers must be present. If you have not reformatted the drive since you got the machine, then the drive should have OS 9 drivers on it. If it has been reformatted, and the option in OSX's Disk Utility to install OS 9 drivers was not selected, then it may not have those drivers. This Apple KBase article addresses that situation -
Article #106849 - Disk Is Available in Mac OS X But Not in Mac OS 9

  • ICal with Tiger and Leopard

    Hi,
I have a PowerMac G5 running Tiger 10.4.11 and a powerbook pro laptop that runs Leopard. I cannot seem to have iCal work on Tiger: it keeps crashing after a few seconds, after sync starts asking to review conflicts. On the laptop with Leopard, there is no problem. Do you know if this problem can be resolved?
I tried to remove the Library/Application Support/SyncServices directory and redo the syncing but it does not work.
    Thanks for any help,
    marc

I have a problem that may give you the answer, though if it's correct it's not an answer you would like. I don't have iCal on my machine. I reinstalled the OS a few months back and I guess it didn't go with it. There was an installer in library/receipts in a package form, but the installation wouldn't go through. By the way, I'm running 10.4.11. Anyway, I went to Apple's download site and found that the only iCal they had on the site was for 10.3.9 at the latest. There was nothing past that to download. I'm thinking perhaps if you don't have the same iCal you did when you bought Tiger/your new computer, you're running a version that's not supposed to be on that version. Now I just have to find a copy of the program for Tiger. If not on Apple's site (and I tried versiontracker), then I don't really know where. That's really all I can think of.
