HP 7410 All-in-one identifies itself as a 7310

HP 7410 All in one
Win 7 64bit
Mac
Hi all, first time poster here. Someone threw out a perfectly (almost) good HP 7410 printer. I say "almost" because the printer identifies itself as a 7300 series both on-screen (in both OS's) as well as in the printer report.
Also, the the serial numbers are different:
on the label it reads {Removed for privacy}
The printout reads as: Serial # {Removed for privacy}. Except the WIFI, the 7410 and the 7310 are identical.
All i can guess is that this is a refurb and that someone put a 7310 brain into the body of a 7410.
Is the firmware fried? Can i roll it back?
the printer works great otherwise and no WIFI is no deal breaker, but it'd be nice

Hi,
Well, both series use same manual, as you mentioned only with or without one or two parts:

  • Remove and check cartridge on right error message on 7410 all in one

I recently changed the black ink cartridge in my 7410 all in one printer. After changing cartridge it gave me an error message of " Remove and check cartridge on right". I have tried removing and reinstalling , cleaning connection points with clean damp cloth (water) and still cannot get error message to go away.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I know this is an older thread but being it is a top Google result associated with the "Remove and check cartridge on right" error it justifies adding a helpful suggestion for other.  Our findings have been HP Printers are very biased against refilled \ recycled cartridges.  I own a total of (5)x HP 7310 and HP 7410 printers in my IT Consulting office.  These are feature rich MFP’s with an abundant supply of ink available at generously economical prices.  On the face of it, it sounds like a good reason to keep a bevy of last gen printers around. EXCEPT the printers work great with the $30-$50 brand new HP brand 96 cartridges from Office Depot or Staples.  Unfortunately if you try and buy some recycled cartridges off ebay the Printers detect the recycled\refilled cartridges as a previously depleted HP cartridge that may not be genuine and the units suddenly turn on you.  Miraculously the "Remove and check cartridge on right" only manifests itself with non-HP brand cartridges or cartridges that have been refilled.  (We have even tried to re-fill out own refreshly depleted cartridges with like results.)  Think of it as an HP service reminder conveying you forgot to pay HP their $30-$50 profit on your ink this go round.  Remember you need HP Branded ink cartridges (HP = Homogeneously Proprietary).  It’s like an intention flaw written into the firmware.  Best guess (purely on conjecture) is there is a check in the firmware/drivers for if the cartridges has been previously installed, previously depleted, max install count, and expiration date validation.  If it encounters a condition it doesn’t like you get this nondescript error.

The above post is filled with conjecture and speculation, but is not based on fact.  The Officejet7410 is not programmed to reject refilled/reman cartridges.  It will check cartridges electrically for various things and will reject cartridges that fail.  Typical failures would include a cracked printhead (caused by rough treatment - dropping the cartridge even a few inches for example), or open electrical connections caused by   debris on the cartridge contacts.  Cleaning the cartridge contacts as shown in the document here may resolve the issue in case of poor electrical contacts.
A cartridge that has been previously used in a different printer will likely be marked as empty, but the printer will happily print with a cartridge detected as empty.
The reality is that the quality of refill and reman cartridges are very variable, but generally poor.  The study here has a study conducted by a testing facility, here is another study.
My personal experience has been similar.  I donated an HP all-in-one to my son's high school years ago.  Sometime later I got a call from the teacher complaining that it was not printing properly.  I went and took a look and found they had put in a renam color cartridge that was not printing one of the colors*. They tried another cartridge, which also had a problem and then finally the third cartridge worked.  I asked why they used renam cartridges and he said they bought these because they were cheaper.  I asked if they were 1/3 the cost....
*The color missing had nothing to do with the printer - blotting the bad cartridge on a damp tissue gave only two of the three colors that would normally be present.

Help! I've spent hours researching this and can't find a solution...
I upgraded 3 Intel Macs in the house to Snow Leopard last weekend. All went differently...but all were successful. I found that the connection to my HP Officejet 7410 (connected wirelessly to 802.11g Airport Express (AEX) network) was "broken". Deleted then "re-intalled". Documents could now be printed. I then found out scan function was "broken". Figured out how to scan with new Snow Leopard "baked-in" driver and Scan tab...different, but it worked.
Then, tonight, on the eve of my birthday, I was given the green light to purchase an Airport Extreme 802.11n (dual-band) base station (AEBS). I set it up and got 2.5X speed on the two 802.11n laptops in the household. Glorious! Then I went to work to ensure print and scan functions were still operational. Tried to re-connect HP OJ 7410 to wireless network...when it found the network it asked for the "WEP" key (on previous AEX network I was secured utilizing WPA2/Personal)...I entered the WPA2/Personal password (same as previous network) and got the error message "Key must be 5 or 13 characters OR 10 or 26 length with 0-9 and A-F (hex)". So I turned off the wireless radio and instead plugged the 7410 into the AEBS via USB. Deleted the previous queue and re-installed. Found the printer no problem but now without the Scan tab or function anywhere...despite following all the recommendations found both on the HP site and here in the Apple Forums. I print fine. Can't for the life of me figure out what the problem with the now lost again Scan function is.
Only strangeness I can think of is the following: When setting up the network(s), I had the option of naming the 5 ghz band something different. I set mine up with the same name of the 2.4 ghz network with 5ghz in parenthesis (i.e. BobbyG and BobbyG (5 Ghz)).
Sorry for the long post but we need the scan function in the house for my wife's teaching purposes. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Very Respectfully,
    Bobby G.

  • HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One no longer 'automatically' print double sided

After upgrading my PC from Windows XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit my HP Officejet 7410 All-in-One printer no longer prints double-sided automatically.  When sending something to print I am presented with only two options: Print One-Sided or Manually Print on Both Sides.  If I choose the latter I have to manually reload the paper when prompted.  I have tried searching for updates and downloading drivers but nothing  has resolved the problem.  I've even gone into printer properties printing shortcuts and changed the settings in "Print on Both Sides" to 'automatically' and still I am prompted to reload the paper.  It is a real pain when I have to print a very large slide pack especially when the printer decides to pick up two sheets at the same time.  I have spoken to HP and they say my printer is old and they cannot help me.  It is about 8-10 years old.  Any advice would be gratefully received.

  • Scan function no longer available in preferences using HP 7410 All-in-One

I have a Mac Book pro running OS 10.9.5. When I select Printers and Scanners in the preferences my HP 7410 All-in-One no longer shows a "scan" selection on my Mac Book. It only shows "Open Print Queue".
It prints just fine and I know it used to show both the "print" and "scan" selection. I don't know when this ability disappeared. Does anyone know what I have to do to get this capability back? I'm not real computer savy so I appreciate all the help I can get.

  • 7410 All In One will not connect

I have a 7410 All In One.  It's about 3 years old.  Within the last 6 months it has been manifesting an ongoing problem.  When not in use for a period of time, it will simply stop functioning.  Upon disconnecting-reconnecting the power cord, the center screen will illuminate and a white bar across the bottom will appear suggesting it is connecting, but the "On" light will not come on.   According the hp site the drivers are up to date.
Another oddity is that when it is in this condition, it will suddenly come back to life.  This has happened a couple of times after anywhere from 6 to 12 hours.  Unfortunately, it is in this mode now and there are documents that have to be printed.
It has never scanned properly, either, so the All In One functionality is pretty much nil.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
    Thanks,
    WS

  • Fix for HP 7410 All-In-One Freezing after SN Upgrade!

I upgraded to SN and immediately my trusty 2 year old HP 7410 All-In-One went into an endless initialization loop. All it would do was display the HP logo and a continuous progress bar at the bottom of the little screen on the front of it. After no effective solution from the HP site, and nothing that worked here, I went into online search mode and found a blog entry that walks you through getting the device back up and running. It sure saved me $500 that I didn't have to spend!
I'd caution that this worked for me but I have no idea what the root cause was except something to do with the wireless card. The blog gives excellent step by step instructions to disconnect the wireless card connection but if your machine is still under warranty you COULD void that warranty I'd assume. But since this involves a simple unplugging of a connector that can be reconnected it's sure worth a try!
As I mentioned it seems that there's an issue with the wireless card that is somehow responsible for the device locking up permanently as well as it becoming invisible over the network. It becomes unusable over a wireless network as well as via direct USB connection. This shakes it all loose and gives immediate access via USB. There is apparently a few ways to reestablish wireless connectivity but I need to research that a bit more. If/when I find that I'll add another post to this thread.
    http://larrycrazyness.blogspot.com/2009/01/hp-fixed.html
After the initial blog entry there are over 150 responses from people that it has worked for including me. I'm not associated with that blog but I thought the information could save many the expense of a service call (that apparently doesn't result in a fix) and the cost of a replacement. Enjoy!

UPDATE: As it stands, I opened the scanner bed and cleaned the glass Home Position strip (for the 6th time now) and low-and-behold, the printer functions properly again.
I know this issue will happen again in a few weeks to a month or so...
    My question still stands...
Can ANYONE come up with a permanent solution to repair this issue?
    Thanks again in advance.

  • Ink cartridge alignment - 7410 All-in-one

The black ink cartridge in my 7410 all-in-one printer is having an alignment problem.  I first received the error message after the printer had been idle for several days (I was traveling).  Since then, I have followed the manual's instructions for cleaning the cartridge, run the alignment function several times, and replaced the cartridge with a new one.  It still will not align correctly.  Can someone suggest what the next step should be?

  • My HP 4215 All-in-one reinstalls itself every time I turn on my computer.

When I turn on my computer, my HP 4215 All-In-One re-installs itself.  It doesn't do it when starting the computer from hibernate mode.  My computer is an e-Machine notebook, system is Windows XP.  This re-installation has been occurring  since I installed a tax prep program, TaxCut,  last year.  I have uninstalled the tax software.  Also, I have uninstalled the HP4215 and re-installed it.  Still have same problem.  Is this a printer problem or a Windows XP problem?  Thanks so much for your help.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

WOW!  I had tried to uninstall my HP C4795 Printer and the progam somehow got corrupted.
SO, I took the installation disk and tried to re-install the drivers, and it never gave me that option.
I therefore had no other choice but to MANUALLY DELETE the files and folders AND, this took a couple of hours, being CAREFUL to DELETE ANY/ALL registry entries under HP.  I have a DVD BURNER that is HP, so I had to be extra careful about this.
Upon completion, I could then re-install my printer drivers all over again.
The first re-install was an error because I didn't unplug the USB cable...duh.
SO, I had to uninstall again.
The second time I re-installed the printer drivers and software, for some strange reason I had been
getting the SAME PROBLEM as in the SUBJECT ABOVE.
I followed your instructions AFTER it had to locate the drivers again.
While leaving the printer ON, I then proceeded with your remedy...
Follow these steps and see if it resolves the issue:
    1. Click on the start menu and click on 'Run', and then type 'services.msc' and press the Enter button.
    2. In the Services window, look for HP CUE Device Discovery Service, and double click on it.
    3. You should see a button labelled 'STOP'. click on that button.
    4. Above this, you should find something which says 'Startup Type'. Change that to 'Disabled'
    5. Click on the 'Apply' button and close all windows.

  • Wireless setup wizard on hp 7410 all in one doesn't give promt for next step in setting up wireless

The printer is connected to a computer (windows xp) through usb I want to enable the wirless for my laptop (windows 7). I ran the wireless setup wizard and it says searching for available networks then goes back to the home screen. I ran the network utility and the printer doesn't show up but the printer is shown under devices and printers when I click start. The wirless router is a D-Link dir-815 wireless N dual band router. it is 802.11g and a compliant.

Uh, this is a wireless printer, so let's set it up that way:
    - Disconnect the USB cable to the printer.
    - in Start > All Programs > Hewlett-Packard> [your printer model] > Add a Device.
    - Choose to add a Wireless or Network device.
    - At one point in the installation it will ask you to TEMPORARILY connect a USB cable.  Do so only after it asks.
    - Remove the USB cable when it asks.
Now that the printer is wirelessly connected to your network you can do the same procedure with other computers on the network, only you will NOT use the USB cable to communicate network settings to the printer - that has already been done with the first computer.

  • 7410 All in one printer problems with working all of a sudden.

My printer seems to have disappeared from my printer list. I have removed the software and re-installed, it sees the printer but nothing shows up in the printer list like it used to. I have set it on a static IP on a wired network. I started running the HP tech assistant and it failed on the Windows item 3rd in the list. The first 2 items passed. It said to power cycle both printer and computer. Did that and same error again. I can't re-run that thing right now but it starts doing things with the scanner when I try to run its fix part of the program and that is where the error comes in. I can't scan, print or fax from the computer any more. I have other computers here and the software works on them so it is something within this machine. Only software added was PC Speedup from the web. Seems to match that time frame when it was put in. It resolved other problems I was having but seems to have screwed up the HP software.
When I try to re-install the software file (latest from the web site) it sees the printer IP, asks if it is the one I want to install which I answer yes to and it goes on its marry way finishing the installation but nothing shows in the printer list after it is done or after it is rebooted.
Any ideas on what to do next?
    Don.

    Hello dh-agi,
It sounds like that PC Speedup certainly messed something up (probably in the registry). You may have to do a system restore to a point in time before you did so.
However, before you do that, I recommend 'scrubbing' the existing printer installation(s) and starting 'fresh'. To do this, follow the instructions below:
If you are installing from Original installation CD:
    1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
    2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. Run the L4uninstall (unless you have an HP PC, then run L3uninstall)
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
    8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player using the link below
    Adobe Flash Player
    9. Download the latest full feature software and drivers using the link below
    http://goo.gl/q2hE0
    10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
    1. Hold the Windows key + r key, type %temp% in the run field, then hit Enter
    2. Look for, and open a folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. Run the L4uninstall (unless you have an HP PC, then run L3uninstall)
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Windows System Tools
    8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player using the link below
    Adobe Flash Player
    9. Download the latest full feature software and drivers using the link below

  • Officejet 7410 All-in-One photo printing thin white lines

I haven't had this problem before.
First, I had 2 thin white lines near the left edge of the paper -- 1st, 1 1/4 inches from left edge;  2d, 2 1/2 inches from left edge.  I cleaned the cartridges automatically.
Then, I had only one thin white line, 1 1/4 inches from left edge.  I am loathe to try the automatic cleaning again because I'm using a LOT of color ink on this photo.
I need to know whether it will help to: 1) clean automatically again,
                                                                2) clean the cartridges by hand with filtered water, or
                                                                3) is there some other solution? (What is it?)
    kaylaesq

Are the lines across the short length of the paper or the long length?  ("Left" side means different things if you are printing in portrait or landscape.)
If the lines are along the long axis of the paper it may be caused by aerosol fogging of the encoder strip.  In this case you could clean the encoder strip as described in this post.  Do not clean the encoder if the lines run across the page in the short direction (the way the printhead moves).  If you do need to clean the encoder heed the warnings, the encoder is fragile and can be damaged by rough handling or aggressive cleaning.
