HP 7550 Ink Levels & determining which cartridge is at Fault?

I currently own a 7550 printer which uses cartridges 56, 57 & 58 running under windows 7 using the recommended driver from HP.  Recently I tried to print a couple of photos on inkjet paper (not HP)
but the colours were not correct.  Therefore I thought the problem would lie with the ink levels in the cartridges.  Ran the diagnostics page from the printer and this reported the following:
56 < 10%
57 < 10%
58 < 40%
I replaced 56 & 57 and they report 100%, 58 still the same.  Is it possible to have run out of one colour in the 58 cartridge?  Is there anyway of knowing exactly which cartridge is giving the problem?  i.e. could I have 40% of ink left in 58 but a particular colour exhausted?
When I print the diagnostic page I don’t see any of the colour yellow, so possibly ink out in one of them.  To have 40% left and one colour out is pretty poor.  These cartridges are extortionate and to be honest don’t know how HP can justify £38 for a no 57, it’s actually cheaper to buy a new printer (as they’ll come with cartridges) than replace all 3.  Any responses appreciated.  Thanks

The only cartridge with yellow ink is the #57 cartridge.  It would appear you have a defective #57 cartridge.  If this is an original HP then check the warranty information as shown here.  Likley causes for this issue are ink cartridges that have stored for years or refilled/remanufactured cartridges.
BTW, the ink cartridges are as follows:
56  Pigmented black, not used when printing on photo paper.
57  Color cartridge with cyan, magenta and yellow dye based inks.
58  Photo cartridge with light cyan, light magenta and photo black dye based inks.

  • How to check ink level in printer cartridge

i just finished installing my C4180 all-in-one printer on my new HP dv6 notebook running windows 7
i cleaned and aligned the ink cartridges, but my black is still printing poorly
i want to check the ink level in the cartridge before i buy a new cartridge, but the windows 7 solution center is somewhat different from xp
the solution center tells me that the ink levels are not currently available and when i click on the printer toolbox, i get nothing
the icon at the bottom of the solution center gives me a big green checkmark, but does not give me any useful information
how can i get better info about my ink levels?
    thanks

    Hello frankjh,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Checking the ink levels on the HP Photosmart C4180 can be done a couple ways, from the front panel of the printer or the software installed on the computer.
It is usually not the easiest to see but the ink levels should be displayed in the lower left corner of the C4180 display screen. A small icon looking like a yield sign may be present, if so this is stating it is low.
Since you have tried to use the HP solution Center on the computer in attempt to gather the information and where not able due to an error, you may need to uninstall and install the C4180 on the computer.
Here is the guide to uninstall: Uninstalling the Printer Software. When ready to install download the software from here: HP Photosmart C3100/C4100 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver.
I hope this helps, please reply if you need anymore help

  • Incorrect ink level causing problem in one cartridge

I have a C7250 that ran out of ink due to a large color print job. Whatever
I bought the appropriate pack with all of the color cartridges and replaced them all together.
All of the other cartridges show as full, with the exception of the dark blue, which continues to show empty.
These are all new HP cartridges.
How do I get this one cartridge to read the correct level. It will not allow me to print anything in color, as it comes up with a fault which says ""to continue printing in black only" press okay, or something along those lines.
What do I need to do to clear the fault and show a full level in this cartridge.

    Hi Nahant78,
I saw your post and I have escalated it to the appropriate individuals. Thank you for alerting me to your issue.

HP Photosmart C6180  all-in-one.  Will not print Black.  Also shows low black ink on ink level.  Cartridge is new and HP brand.
In printing colors, very light and has RED hue as there is no black.  Also two other cartridges show low ink when all the cartridges have been replaced.

    Hi,
Yes, that is true. The field borders are not drawn when there is no data for that field.
Here's a workaround though. Create this formula and use this formula field instead of the original database field on the report
    if isnull({database_field}) or not({database_field} > 0) or not({database_field} = "") then
    space(1) else totext({database_field})
You can then apply borders on this field and you'll see that the field draws the border when there is no value.
If the field that is in the Subreport, then it needs to be done in the Subreport, otherwise in the Main Report.

  • Empty Ink Level Displayed After Installing New HP Cartridge on HP D7260

    Hi there,
I have an HP Photosmart D7260 printer.  I have alway used genuine HP ink cartridges.  I recently replaced the Cyan cartridge after it ran out of ink however the printer is still showing the cartridge as empty.  I printed the Self test Diagnostic Page and the ink level is shown at 0%.  The ink expiry date is shown as "04/01/2016" indicating that the cartridge is new.
I've tried reseting the printer and reinstalling the cartridge several times.  How can I get the printer to show the correct level for the new full cartridge?  I don't want to buy a new cartridge since this a brand new genuine HP cartridge.  I'm quite sure there is a way to reset the incorrect ink level so please advise.

    Please help!

I have the exact same problem with a Photosmart 3210 printer.  My brand new light magenta cartridge is not showing up as full and I can't print even black & white!  This is ridiculous.  I hope someone at HP replies to your posting with a solution soon!

  • I can't determine the ink levels for my HP Deskjet 6940

When I right-click the printer object, choose [Printing Preferences], select the [services] tab, and click the [Service this device] button I get an error message:
A required printer file is either missing or corrupted. Reinstall the HP printing software that came with your device and try again.
I've deleted the printer object and reinstalled it, choosing not to use the existing driver. The problem remained. There is no printer driver to download from HP, it uses the driver that's part of my Windows 7 Home Premium x64 operating system. I ran the MS System File Checker and it reported no problems.
How do I check the ink levels?
    Thanks.
    Keith

This patch will restore the ink level feature. It is located at the web support page for your printer.

  • Wireless printer offline/ink levels

Whenever I try to print to my printer wirelessly the printer always is offline. It is shown as the default printer but offline. I can print to it via USB.
I recently reinstalled the software  and it worked ok (online).  When I next go to print the printer is offline again. Done this twice so far.  Apart from reinstalling the softwareevery time  is there any thing else I can do or do I just use a usb cable?
I am using a HP desktop computer and two ASUS laptops, and the blue wireless light on the printer is glowing steadily. It is offline to all computers. I have run the HP print and scan doctor a couple of times but it still remains offline
Is there any method/program to view the ink levels of the printer? I could not find any on the installation CD.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    John

Wow, I am overwhelmed by the number of responses received to my question. By reading these forums it seems trying to connect HP printers wirelessly is fraught with problems.
As for knowing the ink levels, I do not get any onscreen messages saying the ink is low or has run out, the control panel on the printer reports an ink catridge as half full when it is actually empty. The only way I know an ink cartridge is empty is when a colour stops printing.
I can not use the printer's copy or scan functions unless the computer is turned on and aconnection has been established by a usb cable. I am sick of having to update the printers IP address if I have to restart my modem because the 'Updat IP address' software does not work, and the HP printer diagnostic software, when run reports that the software for the wireless setup is incomplete, and gives me the option of downloading the needed software but the download always fails to complete.
Well lesson learnt, time to dump the HP printer and purchase a more up to date printer that will connect by wireless and has basic functions such as a way to determine ink levels. Epsom printers seem to be capable of these functions and have a good reputation.
    So good bye HP.

  • Canon Pixma MP280 AIO printer - ink levels cannot be displayed - how to resolve this problem?

    Good morning everyone,
I have a Canon Pixma MP280 AIO printer (about 18 months old) now which I previously had installed on a old Windows 7 Pro x64, SP1 Dell Optiplex 755 computer.  That computer finally bit the dust.
My present computer is a Dell Optiplex 745, Win 7 SP1 x64 Home Premium  machine.
Description of problem:  After installing the printer on this computer (using the CD/DVD that originally came with it and following all the instructions), I find the printer will no longer display the ink levels.  Every time I click on "Printer Status", the pop-up box just states the info cannot be displayed.  (All other  functions of the printer work just fine).
Resolutions attempted thus far w/out success:
    1.  Uninstalled printer and deleted all files associated with it (2 times).  Re-started computer, then re-installed it.
    2.  Emailed Canon Support.  their response did not resolve the issue.  (Don't recall just what they said as I've long since deleted that email reply).
    3.  Searched the Forums here for an identical problem with the same model printer, but didn't see anything.
My question:  Is there a resolution for this problem?
Thank you for your time and any help.
    Pete C.

Yes, thanks for  your follow-up .. .Mine did not work after the day-long shut off.
I am gonna risk buying a new black ink cartridge since my machine seems to just be running the error on the black alone.
Good luck with your new one.
I will probably upgrade too, if this does not work.  I cannot complain about this machine. I had two, one for office and one for home. Both took A LOT of use. And, i used no-name refill cartridges and no-name refill ink for over half the time on the home machine.
This one, the home one lasted about 6 years, the other about 4+1/2 . I think that is pretty **bleep** (lol it censored the correct spelling of 'dam') good mileage for a fairly inexpensive machine, that got very high ratings, and gave me all those features.
    Good Luck.

  • Officejet J6415 ink level indicator

    Hi,
I had a J6413 which was getting the "scanner failure" message. Took it in for repairs and got a J6415 as an exchange unit.
The problem now with the J6415 is that the ink level indicators on the control panel or via the HP Device Manager (on Mac) does not show the correct levels.
The black cartridge was almost empty. When I inserted it, it showed as full on the control panel and via the device manager software. After doing some research and contacting HP Support, I did a partial reset. This caused the ink level indicator on the control panel to show as a "?", for color and black. Both levels then appear as empty via Device Manager. A full reset changes the levels to full again, on both the control panel and Device Manager software.
Any ideas? As a last resort, I will take the printer back, but that leaves me without a printer until it gets repaired. Been trying to find a solution before having to take the printer back. The person I spoke to at HP Support suggested that I should use the printer as is, and maybe the ink levels will show correctly after a while. Doubt this will change anything.
Using the printer showing the "?" now. Tried partial resets (# & 3), full resets (# & 6), and the power cycles, but no luck. The levels have changed between full and the "?".
Anybody else experienced the same, and more importantly found a solution, other than taking it back for repairs?
    Thanks:-)

Just configure your printer again.Uninstall your driver and then again install it.You may be get your solution.

  • Ink Level

    Hi,
I have a Officejet Pro 8600 and I hardly and rarely print colour photo nor other printings. And I was told before I purchase this printer that the ink willnot dry up if I did not use the particular ink.
I have been using this printer for almost 10 months, and now it complains the the ink is low, so I check and realise the black ink is low. At the same time, I was shock to see also the ink level for the other 3 colours are also low (estimate 25% remaining).
I wand to know what could be the cause of this.
Another issue I wanted to report is that I wanted to launch the web page for the printer but ended up with an error. Previously I have no problem launching the website for this printer

    Hello there @jameshoty ,
I read your post about your Officejet 8600 becoming low on all ink cartridges. I would like to try and help by letting you know some information.
See the image below from the article Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers. You will see that indeed all colors are used in inkjet printers with black and color cartridges, which is why you are seeing low ink levels for all ink cartridges. This is normal.
As for not being able to access the EWS page, try power cycling the network devices and try accessing it again afterwards:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer.
    All the best
