HP 8500a install hangs at wireless config. What do I do?

First time install of downloaded HP8500a driver/software and installation hangs after the wireless setup. Wireless setup was successful. When told to unplug the USB (we did) the install hung. Still there. Any ideas how to save the install so far and get on to the fax setup?

This is a known problem on Macs.  Google it to find uninstall instructions, or try <http://www.thesafemac.com> which has lots of pointers on removing this kind of stuff.

You do not need anti-virus software on a Mac.  In general anti-malware software just wastes resources, and has been known to slow down a Mac, interfere with normal options, and in some cases panic a Mac.
Mac OS X comes with its own anti-malware features that work rather well.
You have a lot of other 3rd party additions on your Mac, listed under kernel extensions, launch agents, launch daemons, login items, startup items.  If you do not need them, you should consider removing them (genieo first and as soon as possible).
Also I would not expect
  [failed] com.apple.coreservices.appleid.authentication.plist
to fail, as that is Apple provided.  You might consider starting up in Safe Mode and seeing if that still fails (Safe Mode does not start 3rd party additions at boot/login time)
<http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564>
if Safe Mode EtreCheck does not report it as failed, then this may be an interaction with the other 3rd party additions you are running.  If it still fails in safe mode maybe you should do some Google research to see if it is a known issue and if someone else has a fix for it.

  • Linux 9i install hangs at Net Config Assistant

I am installing 9i on Red Had 7.3 and the install program just stops when it gets to the Net Configuration Assistant. No err, but the process using up > 90% of the CPU. All the buttons on the install GUI are greyed out, so there is no way to go with the install of the rest of the tools.
In the install I also had an make err with OraHome1/ctx/lib/ins_ctx.mk.
Can you help me out with this?
    Regards, Cary

I found the solution to the ins_ctx.mk issue at http://www.puschitz.com/OracleOnLinux.shtml. To cut to the issue, here is what worked:
Edit $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk and go to "INSO_LINK =", add a "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" to the line and save it.
Here is the full line with the added "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" flag:
    INSO_LINK = -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m $(LDLIBFLAG)dl $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ca $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fa $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ex $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_da $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ut $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_ch $(LDLIBFLAG)sc_fi $(LLIBCTXHX) $(LDLIBFLAG)c -Wl,-rpath,$(CTXHOME)lib $(CORELIBS) $(COMPEOBJS)
After that hit retry in the error popup.
If you go to the page, the requied entry is bolded in the section where it has been added (its the third entry), making it much easier to see.
The page is an excellent guide to installing Oracle. However, it did not offer guidance to the Net Configuration problem, which I am also encountering. Anyone else have any info?

When installing HP 3054 wireless printer continue to get a message saying my mac is not connected to the network, but it is....What do i try?

looks like this is your network connection settings problem, you'd better only keep one network adaptor online and linked, if you do not understand how to setup windows routing, this is completely not firefox problem. buddy. wish you goodluck.

  • HT1365 just installed a new wireless router (cisco linkseys E1200) and our apple laptops connect fine on one floor but lose connectivity when moved to another.  Other non apple laptops & Ipad connect with no problem no matter what floor they are on

We just installed a new wireless router to our main PC.  It's a Cisco Linkseys E1200.  All other wireless devices were able to connect without a problem, including my Ipad.  We have 2 Macbook Pro laptops.  They both connect just fine when on the same floor of our house as the router, but when we take them upstairs to the 2nd floor of the house, they lose connectivity and it states the wireless password is not the correct password.  All other 2nd floor laptops have no problem at all with connectivity no matter where they are in the house.  Please help- my husband is on the verge of selling Apple if that cannot be remedied.

This would not be a security issue symptom. I would consider checking for sources of wireless interference HT1365
Trying changing the radio channel on your wireless network.

I have all the problems everyone is having on here as well. But you know what? I Boot into XP and wireless works fine. Apparently apple makes better drivers for Windows then there own OS I thought mac was suppose to just "work" Then to find if I login with xp it just, "works" what am i to believe now haha
I really hate using XP but its the only way I can connect to the net consistently ...
My mac is all like "Wait i found a connection..." "ok i found it" "ok let me connect" "ok im connected... but... wait not really" "i know it looks like im connected but I am going to make you sad"
    It does make me sad
BTW I have tried every single option/config possible. Nothing works. BC you know what? It should just "WORK"
Ill sit humbly on xp till this gets fix but for now just wait it out

Time: This has been discussed a lot; Mac OS and Windows read your computer's clock differently. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6271964&#6271964

  • I keep losing my wireless connection after periods of inactivity - any solution? I recently installed a new wireless router with improved range.

I recently installed a Netgear Wireless router for improved reception, but now my macbook loses connection through Airport after periods of inactivity.  We have another older Macbook in the house, and it never loses connection.  I never had this problem with the previous Linksys router, just limited range.  Any ideas what is causing this?  It's frustrating to have to frequently shout down and re-boot.  That so far is the only way I can re-connect.

Adjust the Wireless Settings on your linksys router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab on the Setup page- Here Wireless Network mode should be mixed- Provide any non linksys network name ....
Name (SSID) box- Set wireless channel to 11- And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on "Save Settings" >>
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your
network key whenever you connect to your wireless network.
Do NOT give this key to anyone.
    Click on Advanced Wireless settings>>
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings" ...
Try to look for the Wireless Network on your laptop and attempt to connect...

  • Sneak Preview sp11 Slim Java install hangs on J2EE Startup

I looked around at the other instances of this type of error, but they seemed to be slightly different issues (or at least, at differenst steps).  Tried what helped them anyway, though it didn't really help.
My install hangs at the Start J2EE Engine (step 21 of 24 normally).  It seems to retry every 20 seconds, but never gets anywhere and eventually pops up an error.  I've retried from there, stopped and restarted, wiped out the whole install and tried again.  I've repeated this for several versions of Java, the latest being the 1.4.2_08 version.  They all get to the same part and die.
This is the error right before it gets into full swing on the waiting/retrying.

    That files says:

SAPSTART finished successfully on ITLAP_J2E_00, but at least one process doesn't run correctly:
    C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\exe\sapstart.exe=>sapparam(1c): No Profile used.
My os is XP, and seems to meet the min system requirements for the slim version.
Any ideas on getting over this hump?
Edit:  After talking with someone at the ICC, turns out pretty much that I shouldn't be trying to install the slim version.  So, time to go find a machine that can handle the normal Java install.

Looking around at other experiences as well as my own several attempts (just tried an installation on XP several times this evening), none of this stuff works and SAP could not possibly care less.  A clearly deeply flawed installation has been sitting around for 5 months now...  one is left to wonder what highly specific conditions are required for success.
Good luck to you... I give up.

  • 10.5.4 won't install-hangs on Configuring Installation

10.5.4 won't install-hangs on Configuring Installation and I have to force quit the installer. I've tried to wait it out for over an hour, but the progress bar never moves. This is with the Combo Updater. I've also tried using Software Update, but the progress bar for checking for new software stops about 3/4 of the way, and hangs forever. Any advice? Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately such problems do occur for some people, not necessarily through any fault on the part of the user. Interruption of an update can cause problems for which there are solutions.
    Which update was it?
Go to the Apple icon and select Software Update and see what it recommends if anything. Don't actually instal, rather just quit SU and let us know what the result is.
Secondly, open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Select your hard drive in the LH column then Repair permissions from the lower part on the RH side of the window. It will take about 10mins to complete its task. If there is a list of permissions finishing with a message permissions repaired rerun this to make sure there are no more. See whether the odd behaviour continues.
If it does, insert the original installation dvd and restart holding the C key until the Select your language window appears. Do this & on the next window Select Disk Utility from the Tools menu. Again select your hard drive but this time choose Repair Disk. If there are repairs indicated and they are completed rerun this too to check that no more are needed. When this is finished rerun Repair permissions as well if there were any repairs carried out. Restart the computer normally and see how it all goes.

I'm trying to install a Linksys wireless router.  Went through the installation software and all appears to be in order. Except that the message that I'm getting is that my router is not signed into my internet connection.  Yet it is--I'm writing this aren't I?
The 4 green lights are on and I've reviewed the installation instructions.  Any help?

  • Portal install hangs at 61%

I have install ias9 on several machines using different Linux distributions and they all seem to hang at 61% of the portal configuration assistant install. I am now trying it on a P-III 1Ghz with 512MB ram and it has been sittingat 61% for about 6 hours. CPU usage still at 100%.
    null

I too downloaded the 9iAS installation for Linux from OTN. I am also experiencing the same problem you are...here's an excerpt from the $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/opca/install.log:
    ...Importing component: ID = 1076115684 Name = RPT_PDETAILS Owner = PEOPLE_APP Type = AREPORT

    ... Installing SCOTT Data
    ...Building demonstration tables. Please wait.
    ...attempting to create user scott/tiger
It appears that SCOTT has already been created, data installed, and then tries to create the user again...SCOTT already exists and the install hangs.
What I did to get around this is open a separate xterm and executed:
    tail -f $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/opca/install.log
Then when it got to the point shown above where it was trying to create SCOTT I opened up another xterm and executed:
    ps -ef
    It showed me (excerpt):
    oracle 31208 31197 0 00:38 pts/2 00:00:02 /u02/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/li
    oracle 31209 31197 0 00:38 pts/2 00:00:16 /u02/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/li
    oracle 31211 31197 0 00:38 pts/2 00:00:00 /u02/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/li

    oracle 31315 31305 0 01:53 pts/1 00:00:00 ps -ef
I assumed that process 31286 was the one trying to recreate SCOTT. I double checked that the user did exist by querying DBA_USERS from another box and the user did in fact exist. So I killed process 31286 with a gracefull exit request:
    kill 31286
...and the install continued until 100% completion. Note that after the install was completed, the processor on my database box was pegged at 100%. I had to kill the process on the database side that was trying to recreate SCOTT. Looks like the Portal install script isn't quite right for the 9iAS for Linux install I pulled down from OTN.
I have yet to attempt to connect to the Portal installtion as it was late and I needed to get some sleep. I will try to connect to the Portal installation this evening to determine if it was a success.
    I hope this information helps.
My question to Mr. Lincks is: Have you perform this installation on the Linux platform? If so, was the installation performed from media supplied by Oracle? I too have performed the installation several times on Solaris and on NT with downloads from OTN, however, I did not have a problem like this one from the Linux download.
    Thanks,
    Mike

On our Business\Admin WinXP PCs with SP2, I instal 6i forms and reports (including 8i client), then patchset 13, then attempt the 9i client install. Usually, the 9i client install hangs at 54% (at globalization support file - udc_zht.txt). Some 9i installs have worked while others have failed. Identical hardware (IBM ThinkCentres). XP install hangs at "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration", this is after going through the boot camp steps. Any ideas?! Is this a firmware thing? Thereotically xp install cd should be able to boot just by holding down the "c" key no?
    what I used:
    win xp sp2
    mac os x.4.7
    macbook
What I'm trying to do is get xp running off my external 15gb fw hd. I read on mac os rumours some guy did it successfully!

    Can anyone confirm this?
Maybe someone from the Boot Camp Public Beta Forum, which is where you probably should be discussing this anyway.

  • XP Pro Install Hangs

I could not find anything on this in the knowledge base, but
I am trying to install on an XP Pro laptop, and the install hangs
on "Creating Coldfusion Directory Structure". I eventually have to
power down my machine to clear the install. Afterwards, Coldfusion
is partially installed but does not function.

When you installed it, do you see CFusionMX7 directory in
there? There should be an installation log file
Macromedia_ColdFusion_MX_7_InstallLog.log. Check to see what errors
or warnings you have in there.
