HP 8510p laptop won't power up, lighting bolt light blinks six times and off.

HP 8510p laptop won't power up, lighting bolt light blinks six times and off.
Blank/black screen, fan/disk not moving. Nothing happen other than the light blinks and off.
Same problem for battery powered; battery + power adaptor or power adaptor only.

Hello tianhuat. I understand you're having some problems getting your notebook to power up. Try the following.
Remove the battery and AC power from the notebook.
Press and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds. This discharges the capacitors on the motherboard.
Replace battery and AC power.
Try to boot the notebook and post the result.
Are you also getting a blinking CAPS LOCK or NUM LOCK pattern?

Why did you wipe the drive?
    Were you having problems?
If you were those problem may be related to a failing hard drive and that is why the TM backup could be restored.
In you topic header you say the system won't boot from the SL DVD, But it di for you to wipe the drive. Then it should again boot from the SL DVD.
Insert the DVD and reboot, hold down the Option key and select the Optical drive, SL DVD, as the Boot source.

iPad won't shut down or restart. Apple flashes on and off. How can this be fixed?

My ipad also does not shut down. I've tried to reboot a million times (holding down the home and power buttons simultaneously). I've tried resetting everything (after successfully backing up on iCloud). I tried the remote reboot (backing up ipad on iCloud, then on a separate computer, log on to iCloud, locate your device, clear all, reboot everything). Nothing worked. Took the ipad to the tech dept at the store, and they said its a mechanical failure of the power button, either the sensor or spring. Without the extended warranty, costs $250 to fix, because the screen is glued down to the machine. With the warranty, they would have replaced it for free. Ugh. My ipad is 1.5 years old. It would have been covered. But it shouldn't be so easy to damage! Outrageous that ipads are so glitchy at this price point. Outside techies can fix, but the machine could be damaged because of the way it's made.
Another option the techie at apple told me about, which won't shut down the ipad but will take it to the locked home screen, is go to Settings, General, Accessibility, under physical and motor, turn on the Assistive touch. That adds a button to the screen. Select Device, then Lock, and that takes you straight to the black screen. Not a total power down but maybe it burns through the battery less.

  • My laptop won't power on

My son accident dropped my laptop yesterday. Up until that point over never had a problem with it ever. Now it won't power on. I've tried the trick of taking out the battery unplugging it and then trying to power it on and still nothing. It's completely charged. The light comes on when it's plugged in. I have important files on my laptop so I need it to work again is there anything I can try?

At this point I would suggest pulling the hard drive. Insert it into a USB HDD Enclosure, plug into usb port of a working machine. If the hard drive is undamaged you should be able to browse it and copy important files over to hard drive of host machine.

  • Dv7-6165US laptop won't power on

Just for information, I have taken apart, and replaced many motherboards in laptops, laptop screens, processors, heat sinks and fans. This is the first time with a quad-core and have came across this before. I have reballed alot of HP dv6000 and DV 9000 systems and have got them back up and running.
Specs for the laptop will follow discription of problem.
What I have is a HP DV7-6165US laptop which will not boot at all which is a friend of mine laptop. I believe the battery to be dead and it does not charge when plugged in. The only light that lughts when the ac adapter is plugged in is the light right on the side where the ac adapter does plug in, usually that light stays on steady when plugged in-- on this one it constantly flashes. Nothing lights up on the laptop itself when trying to power it on, the light where the adapter plugs in on the side just keeps flashing, it shows no other life at all.
What I have tried: A hard reset, Taking out all power connections including battery, holding down power button for a minute or more plug back in nothing changes. I've bought and tried a new stick of memory, I've taken it apart and bought a new internal ac jack still nothing changed, I've reseated the heatsink and processor, and now I just tried a new board (used $200) on ebay and put it in to find out I still have the same problem. The only thing I can think of that is left is the heatsink and fan assembly or the processor unless by chance I got a used motherboard from ebay that does not work (new board $400). Does anyone here have any idea if the processor being bad or heatsink that would cause this problem--as I said the only light is where the ac adapter plugs in flashes and keeps flashing when ac adapter is plugged in (normally the light around the ac adapter stays on steady when ac is plugged in)  no other lights flash when pressing power button   Any help would be greatly appreciated TYVM!

I am fully aware of which light you are referring to.
The document I linked to covers the flashing charger light on the notebook. In fact, nothing on the document references the light on the notebook. I apologize that my statement was not as clear as it should have been.
I highly doubt it is the motherboard or processor at this point.
Again, let me know if you have reviewed the document and tried the steps listed in the document for a continuously flashing charger light.
You have also replaced every other possible component meaning you would have been shipped a faulty component.  While this is possible, I doubt it is the case.  If they listed it as working, then they are held to that in most countries.
The document lists power adapter, but that is only the component being tested and not what is being referenced.  It is essentially the notebooks way of saying "Hey, I'm not getting enough power".
    AC power adapter LED
    Continuous blinking
    Power adapter
    Insufficient power
    Try a different power outlet.
    Replace power adapter.

  • Laptop won't power up with AC adapter and won't charge battery

    Here is the thing.
    1) the laptop doesn't power on without a battery when directly connected to ac adapter.
    2) the light which would indicate that the laptop is plugged into the ac adapter is not on when the ac adapter is plugged in.
    3) the battery charge light is also not on, which would indicate the battery is being charged.
The battery does not charge... Laptop turns on the battery backup mode, but not on ac adapter connection. I tried connecting the battery to another compatible hp laptop (both my laptop and the other test device support same battery models). It was charging fine on that laptop. And when switched it back into my laptop, laptop was running fine, but it does not charge in my laptop. But ac adapter is fine too. So whats the issue? And what can I do to get it sorted?
My laptop is not on warranty anymore. But i replaced battery 4 months back, so its not a fault with battery or the ac adapter.
The AC adapter is fine, tested with other laptop.
The battery is also new and works fine

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g6-2004tx Notebook and issues with the battery not charging. Here is a link to calibrate and test the Battery. Calibration should eliminate this issue. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.HP Battery Check in HP System Diagnostics for Windows 8, would give you details of charging and discharging.Testing and Calibrating the battery using HP System Diagnostics in Windows 8. At the starting of the Notebook, Press F2 to select F2 System Diagnostics. Then choose Component Tests, then battery. If the battery was purchased from HP it could be in warranty. Here is a link to check. If purchased from another source you would have to contact them. Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • HP 2000 Laptop won't power on

I have an HP 2000 that won't power up. When you press the power button, the light on the wireless/F12 button comes on, the the light on the caps lock button comes on and blinks serveral times. after that, the system shuts down. Tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds and retry startup, but no good. The warranty expired 10/25/12.
    Any ideas??

Thanks for all the tips on trying to determine the problem.
I get 6 flashes on the CAP lock key and then it shut down. Here is what the code chart says.
The BIOS authentication error (Blink code 6) is extremely rare. It is the result of a discrepancy between the BIOS and the hardware that is installed on the computer. This error occurs when the BIOS cannot authenticate signatures from the hardware on the system. The purpose of the BIOS authentication is to be sure that no one has tampered with the BIOS on the computer.
If a BIOS authentication failure occurs, the computer automatically performs a BIOS recovery. If the computer does not automatically recover the BIOS, manually perform a BIOS recovery. To manually perform a BIOS recovery, press all four arrow keys at the same time to cause the BIOS to go to the EFI partition to find and recover the current BIOS.
I tried the fix by hold all 4 arrow keys down on boot up, but no good.
    Any other ideas?

  • Laptop won't power on

    Hi,
My toshiba laptop recently got some moisture in it.  I dried it out and it now comes on.  However, when it came up, it kept saying that there were errors which prevented it form coming up and that I needed to do a repair.  I ran the toshiba revovery wizard but that did not resolve the problem.  I then erased the hard drive hoping to reinstall everything.  However, since I did that, the computer will not power on.  The lights come on and I hear the hard drive but there is nothing on the screen.  Can anyone help >

Attach an external monitor to the VGA port on the computer and see if you can get video that way. I don't think that the moisture damaged the hard drive or its contents, but may have damaged the video circuits. Either way, you will probably need to take the computer in for repair. Spills are not covered under warranty and are considered either neglect or abuse.
If you do spill a drink in your computer, first, unplug the power cable. Next turn it off and then remove the battery. Twist, tilt and turn the computer to get rid of the excess moisture. Finally, with the battery still removed, allow the computer to dry out in a warm room for a couple days.
The safe thing to do would be to have a Toshiba service center check out the computer.

  • Pavilion dv6 laptop - won't power up, and other weirdness

This laptop (model dv6-3143us) was working fine... and now suddenly won't power on. However, with the (fully charged) battery inserted, the LCD screen is on - blank, but very definitely on, even though the rest of the computer is not.
I removed the battery, tried a hard reset, swapped the AC adapter with a known good one. The tiny LED next to the power input jack does not come on. Pressing the power button - nothing happens. The AC adapter's LED is lit, and it will power another identical laptop.
The LCD coming on part is what really confuses me. Maybe a short somewhere? Ideas appreciated!

    Jon-o-groats,
Sorry to hear that, if you decide to go ahead and get the computer repaired, here is the service and maintenance guide for your computer. On page 91 it shows you a list of the motherboards that should work for this particular computer, next to each board there is a part number that will allow you to search for online for comparisons and prices.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • Laptop won't power up

DV9500, when I press the on button, all the normal indicator light briefly blink then go out.

@lynn417.  I had the same thing on my Envy TS 17; the power button didn't light up, and did nothing when I pushed it briefly or held it for several seconds.  I was travelling at the time, and after a few attempts (I verified the adapter power light was on, and I tried a different adapter and wall outlet as well) I gave up until I got home several days later.  Tried again and it powered up.  So, there is hope... By hard reset, do you mean as in Step 1 of  "HP Notebook PCs - Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 8)"?

  • Nano won't power on, but shows up in My Computer and iTunes

I recently replaced the screen in my Nano and for about a day it worked fine. Then I opened it back up to clean off a smudge and now it's slightly less than functional.
First off before anyone asks, I use a PC, not a Mac. I run Windows XP Home Edition. And my iTunes version is 6.0.4.2.
    Now my problem...
When not connected to my computer the device is useless, it won't power on, the wheel is unresponsive, no sound comes from the headphones, it's dead.
But when I connect it to my computer it shows up in My Computer and in iTunes and all of my songs show up and I can double click them and play them, but the screen on the Nano still remains dark and the wheel still does nothing.
Another strange thing is that My Computer and iTunes will only recognize it when I turn "hold" on. If hold is off it refuses to show up at all.
I downloaded the latest iPod software and it stopped showing up at all, so I uninstalled that and reverted back to whatever version I have now. I've tried to let it charge for 24 hours, that did nothing. I formatted it and let my computer re-install it's system files and what-not, that did nothing. I've tried to reset it, nothing. And I've mashed all the buttons and circled around the wheel endlessly to no avail.
I really have no clue what might have caused this or how to fix it, if anyone has any suggestions I'm willing to try them, because at this point it can't get that much more broken.
So um, thanks for any help. If anyone actually manages to help me fix this thing and you have a PayPal account I'll toss you like $20 or something for your time, because it's cheaper than buying a new Nano.

Wow. I have no idea, I have never opened my ipod to do any do-it-yourself repairs. Of course (as you probably already know) your warranty is now voided since you opened it up and made alterations to it.
I wouldn't know where to start troubleshooting this, as I am unclear as to the cause of the issue.

  • Powe Mac G5 early 2004 gives error (no memory installed) Do I need to replace the Logic Board. Machine powers up,2beeps and power lights blinks 2 times and stops there, No video or any thing?

I just recently aquired a Power Mac G5 early 2004.
When I power the system up. I get 2 beeps
and the small front panel light blinks 2 times continuously.
The error codes show that it means a memory problem or
no memory present. Memory is installed.
In this case do I need to replace the mother board.
The system goes no futher, no video or any thing.

Well, it's possible that someone pulled the original RAM from the computer before they sold it, and repalced it with incompatible RAM. That, believe it of not, would be the best of all world in this case, as a working G5 logic board and its installation could cost as much as a refurbed Intel mac.
I would contact the seller if you did not personally see the computer working before you bought it.
As the computer had to be moved about--possibly shipped--to change hands, first check that all internal cards and RAM Modules are fully seated. They can work loose in some models.
