HP 8600 Ink Cartridge Missing Message?

HP8600 ink cartridges replaced after printer stopped working - "msg. ink cartridge missing", same msg., then unplugged and replugged, still shows same msg. 8 hrs. later and still no resolve. Third HP printer w/sensor problems. Is HP going down hill? It seems the HP webpage has been hacked. I was rerouted 3 times to an offshore third party tech. support co. in India who want to charge me $$$ to resolve my printer problems after claiming they were HP then MS. Wow!!! 6mo. old 8600 and can't reach anyone directly at HP. Does anyone have any ideas or do you know what I'm talking about...please help? I've shut off, turned on, unplugged, removed and reinstalled software on laptop and nothing works.

Have/will soon "had" instant ink cartridge service.  Printer did not recognize that the black ink was out so I didnt get a black ink cartridge.  Couldnt wait for the mail service, so purchased all new HP cartridges and installed.
"Ink Cartridge Problem" Message came up and is now stuck in the machine, can't clear it.  The machine will not recognize any of the 4 brand new HP inks; that menu item has little red X for each cartridge and each one shows empty.....
Removed all cartridges, cleaned all contacts, unplugged machine, did a "reset" on the menu via HP phone technician.....nope, nada, nothing.
Did all above SEVERAL times.   Called HP back..."40 minutes wait time" .. wth...
Anything else?  Does HP have to reset my machine to "recognize" regular cartridges???
Thoughts, suggestions?  (Besides don't buy HP again....I will not....I should know better by now!)
    Thanks all.

  • Ink Cartridge Depleted message

I tried to print something on my OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus and I got a message that the ink cartridge was depleted and would have to be replaced for me to print anything.  But the last page I printed came out just fine, there was plenty of ink.
This seems ridiculous.  Why is HP deciding that I don't have enough ink left?  Why not leave that decision to the me?  If you want to warn the user that the print might not come out well, that's fine, but why isn't there a "print anyway" button?  That way, I could print until I, in my own opinion, think the cartridge needs to be replaced.  It sure seems like HP is doing this so that I have to buy a new ink cartridge faster.
Anyhow, I need to print something now and I can't wait until I can get to the office store and buy a new cartridge.  Is there any way I can fool the printer into printing anyway?  Or has HP just decided to make a task impossible for me, the customer?
    Thanks for any help.
    This question was solved.

The Officejet 8600 has separate ink supplies and printheads.  To prevent damage to the printhead ink is required, and the printer will block printing once the ink levels get too low.  See the document here for information on how ink is used.  The Officejet 8600 is an IIC printer in the vocabulary of that document.

  • Ink cartridge missing or damaged?

I have an HP PhotoSmart c309n-s with a screen that's showing "Ink Cartridge Problem" and goes on to say that my yellow ink cartridge is missing or damaged. I tried reinstalling the yellow cartridge, removing and reinstalling all the cartridges, and replacing the yellow cartridge outright. At various points I also got complaints that the blue cartridge was bad too, and for a time I got a message that all five cartridges were "missing or damaged." I've tried unplugging the printer as well. If it helps, we had a power failure yesterday for about 15 hours ... but I'm unsure whether that matters.
For now, it's still complaining that the yellow cartridge is missing or damaged. The print head moves every 15 seconds or so, but nothing prints. Help!

  • Ink cartridge missing or damaged message

I've been having the black ink not printing problem and after trying the clean print heads command thru the printer and the computer controls with no success, I finally resorted to removing the cradle and flushing the screens with alcohol and warm water until it ran clear. I cleaned all the terminals and reinstalled the cartridges. Now I get an error message that "one or more cartridges are missing or damaged". I've tried removing and reinstalling. I saw a warning about not leaving them out more than 30 minutes. Could've been that long while I was cleaning print heads. What now?

    Hello @Posmmom,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 6510, you are unable to print in black ink.
I see you have completed the troubleshooting steps listed here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, with no success.
As for the printhead, you do not want to dry it out, that's why they recommend not to leave the cartridges out for long periods of time. Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages.
I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. Please let me know which Country/Region you are in as well as the product Warranty status: HP Warranty Checker
I hope to hear from you soon.
    Thanks,

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Hello @ut32w , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I hope you had a great holiday!
I understand from reading your post that you are running into cartridge errors.  I'd like to help!
I would first suggest removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

To print in color, install the following cartridges: Magenta
To print in black only, click Black only.  To begin printing on certain products, press the Resume button on the printer control panel.  The printer will replace colors with grayscale.
To cancel, press the Cancel button on printer.
If empty Ink cartridge is not replaced soon, all printing will stop.

I just click on Black only to print docs n' stuff.  I have allot of Photo gifts I am workin on for Christmas.  I am stumped as what to do.  Do you think I have a bad cartridge or somethin?  The printer shows that my Magenta is full.
My printer doesn't seem to be under warranty anymore, even though I purchased it just a few mnths ago.  Anyway, I love it.  I had an older model Photosmart b4 this one and they are excellent for my photo hobby.

I just replaced the black cartridge in my HP 6980 Printer, yet it still shows the cartridge missing message. I have restarted the computer as well as uploaded any new updates. What is going on??

Hi - Follow the steps in this doc, to clean both the cartridge contacts.  I'd also recommend very gently cleaning the contacts in the carriage as well.  Make sure the power cord is disconnected from the printer when cleaning the cartridges and the carriage.

@ REBjr.  - I understand that you are getting error message on the printer that is related to the print cartridges.  Are you using genuine HP non refilled ink in the printer? I would  start by doing a  hard reset to the product in an attempt to restore the printer to a known working condition and try to clear the error message prior to replacing any parts.  Here is a document that will provide the steps to the hard reset.  Also, is there residue on the black cartridge?  If so, I would look at this link here. It addresses getting an ink cartridge error message on the printer when trying to install a new black cartridge in the machine. I hope that this helps.

I receive an Ink Cartridges Empty message for the yellow cartridge, when I try to print.  I am given the option to either cancel and replace the cartridge or print in black only.  I have replaced the cartridge twice, but still get the message.  Does anyone know what I might do to fix this?  Thanks.

    Hello kirkpat
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you are getting a faulty out of ink message on your printer. Now you did not specify which printer you have so I am going to give you some general instructions to try. First ensure that your printer is plugged directly into the wall and not into a power bar or surge protector. If you are curious as to why I ask this you can review at your leisure the HP Support document: Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. Now I would also like you to power cycle the printer, this means you turn it off, unplug it from both the wall and the back of the printer and wait a full minute before replugging it back in. If you are still getting the issue turn off the printer and unplug it again, after which I would like you to remove the ink and the printhead (if the printer has a printhead) and start the printer up without them installed. If you still get the error there is a printer issue. If you do not get the error then it is most likely an issue with the cartridges. Either way you can put them back in and call HP Technical support for additional help with this.
