HP 8600 prints red out as a sort of brown colour

I think it is the magenta channel that is causing the problem.  I seems that if I try to print anything with red in it then the red areas come out as brown. Yellow, green and blue seem to be OK. As it is the printer is now useless for anything other than black monotone. Unfortunately the machine is just out of warranty so at the moemnt I am completely scuppered! All other print tests pass perfectly, it is just that red comes out as brown! All help greatefully received. Note, I have tried fitting a completely new set of HP cartidges and the problem persists.  Also cleaned the heads several times including third level clean. I have just tried a full-partial reset with no change in the print condition - still brown instead of red. Martin

Hello,  Please perform CLEAN PRINTHEAD for atleast 3 times. >On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow () to display additional options.
>Touch Setup (), and then touch Tools.
>Touch Clean Printhead. The printer cleans the printhead, and then prints a test page. Please call HP Tech Support for further assistance.

  • I have iPhoto 09 The cover of my book is cropped is perfect on screen but when I print it out it's cropped badly. There is a red exclamation point on the screen image but I have created 5 books and never had this problem. HELP

I am using iPhoto 9 to make a book. The cover of my new book looks perfect on screen, but when print it out before I have it published the cropping is all off. There is also a red exclamation point on the cover image. I have checked and rechecked but to no avail. Can you help? Bill Perlmutter

That red exclamation point can mean either that the image on the cover is below the resolution limit that Apple has set for photos to make good prints or that there is missing text in a text box or there's some text that has overflowed the text box.
The resolution limit that is set in iPhoto for photos is 110 dpi, i.e. the PrintWarningImageDPI value in this screenshot of iPhoto's preference file:
It's not an absolute thing.  Many have reported getting books that had photos with the low resolution warning indicator and it was perfectly satisfactory.
But check to see if it's an image or text warning.

  • Every photo I print comes out red.

Colour printing works fine till I choose photo paper.  The picture is black and white. The print comes out of printer Red.   This has never happened to me before.  I tried printing from Adobe Photoshop elements and Iphoto  Same results from both.

Check your printer.  The nozzels may need to be cleaned.  Run the printer's utility to clean and check the nozzels and check the ink supply.  Some printers use multiple colors in prints B/W images.

I have a Office Jet Pro L7780. When I try to print red, the color comes out brown. I have tried replacing all of the ink cartridges, printing from within two different programs (microsoft word and belight business card composer V5) from my Mac, and from within MS Word on my Windows lap top. In all cases if red is called for, I get brown.
I have gone through the printhead cleaning procedure, the alignment procedure and the print quality diagnostics, all to no avail.

  • Unable to load HP 8600 printer driver on laptop

    Hi Folks,
Just installed a new HP Officejet 8600 printer into my home network.  The network consists of 4 PC’s, two desktops and two laptops…all are running XP SP3 with the latest updates.  The HP printer and one of the desktops are connected by Ethernet to a wireless router.  The other desktop and both laptops are connected wirelessly via 802.11.  Installation of the printer driver was successful with both desktops and one of the laptops.  The other laptop, a Dell Latitude D520, fails on the final step of the installation process, after selecting the printer name following its detection on the network.  Avast! Internet Security and Malwarebytes run on all the machines and are disabled, along with Windows firewall, during the install process.  The following dialog is displayed:
“Unsuccessful Network Installation – The printer was unable to be installed over the network.”
No other error information is provided.  I’ve tried installing from the product CD (which is up to date) as well as the driver software downloaded from the HP support site, rebooting multiple times.  I also downloaded the recommended HP troubleshooting tool (HP Installation Failure – Unknown Device) and ran through the process a couple of times without success.  All of the machines, including the D520 laptop, can see each other as well as the HP printer.  There are no network issues I’m aware of.
I’ve exhausted what little expertise I have in this area.  If anyone out there can think of a possible solution or provide some suggestions, I’d sure appreciate it.  Thanks much.

Hello marconi10. Welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are unable to install your printer on one computer, over a wireless connection. I'm going to suggest a very simple workaround, which if it works, will remove any complicated troubleshooting that would be necessary:
Please try installing the printer with a USB connection. If this does not work, you know that there is an issue occurring with the computer.
If this does work, the printer will be successfully installed. At that point, you can change the connection type from USB to wireless. For more information on how to do this, please reference this HP document: Convert from a USB connected printer to wireless
If the printer will still not connect wireless, this will point out a computer issue. For additional information and troubleshooting, relating to the inability of installing the printer over a wireless network, please reference this HP document: 'Unable to Find Printer' Error Message Displays on the Computer During Wireless Network Installation
Please respond with the results of your troubleshooting. I'm only here to help!

  • How to print red color in plain paper?

When printed on glossy papers, red color (in photo or text) looks great.
When I print on non-photo, plain papers, red color came out brownish.
I tried on premium ink jet papers, it does not print red but in brown color.
How can I print red color in plain paper?

When dealing with printing ink, R=100m+100y+0c+0k. What drives the color toward rust, maroon, and brown is the addition of c to the mix. That may be the result of the diffuse reflection of the uncoated paper surface, its absorb rate, the ink chemistry and – the light source. Since the easiest variable to test is the light source, look at that color using a source weak in blue emission, incandescent light, and watch the red shift. Remember also that the reflected color will never be as bright as paper it is printed on. Each ink film is a filter subtracting light from the paper reflection.
Shown above (with a mode change to RGB for the purpose of this display) is its version of 100 each of m+ y  and a patch with the unwanted c

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 - Print Preview is not available

I have a new HP Officejet Pro 8600 AIO printer that I purchased last week. I hooked it up to print in a network environment. I have thee window xp systems and three windows 7 systems printing to it with no issues.I am very happy with it. Yesterday my wife told me that when she printed she missed the print preview that our former printer had. I thought I would easily get into the HP 8600 printer program and setup the print preview option. To my surprise after checking in numerous areas and online, I found out that it looks like the option has been left out or not provided for the printer by HP. I realize the MS Office and many other programs have their own print preview however when being online with Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, you quickly realize that the option to select the pages you want to print and not print could save alot of wasted paper and ink. Someone please tell me that a print preview software option is in the works for this otherwise great printer! I can not imagine leaving this out of the printing software package provided.

Since HP isn't answering me on the 'Print Preview' being available soon or which HP printers software actally HAVE the 'print preview' function enabled... I did some searching and I found a partial answer to the 'print preview' delema.  The web site http://www.obviousidea.com/windows-software/greencloud-printer/
has a free program called GreenCloudPrinter which, in a nut shell, will install a printer? called GreenCloud which set itself up as the default printer and any file that is sent to the printer gets directed to the GreenCloud device which will then bring up a 'print preview' screen with options to remove blank pages and or print or not print the preview!  And a lot of other functions too.  Works great and it's free.  You do have to register it and a registration code is emailed to you to unlock the program. I hope that helps you out... worked for me.

I'm an HP person (i.e., laptob, printer, etc.).  Our office had a Brothers (sorry) MFC 9840 and with it we had a desktop app that would allow us to scan, copy and fax from our personal computers.  Needless to say that printer died and I bought the office an HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer. Because the aforementioned capabilities existed, the staff would like them for our new HP printer. I didn't see these capabillities on the support disk.  Did I miss it?  Can you help.  Thanks (because I can not believe the HP would put out such great products without this capability).

  • 1315all-in-one inkjet won't print red

    Hi all,
I have a frustrating problem.  My color cartridge has plenty of red ink and if I wipe the bottom of it slowly on a damp paper towel, all three colors can be seen on the towel.  But it WILL NOT print the red if I want to print a document that has red in it.
The other colours print ok, but not the red. I have soaked the cartridge in hot water, etc and done the "clean cartridge"bit to the intermediate stage, after reading various solutions on various sites.   At first the red would print in the first part of the document only, fadiing out as the printing continued, but now it won't print red at all.
( When searching  in THIS site for the problem I have, I cannot see any results that related specifically to "won't print red",  If  I search for that, surely any solutions should show up on the first page after searching, so I didn't bother to look on the second page. )
Do any of you have a solution or suggestion.  How could it be that the red inkjet nozzles could be burnt out or something like that if the other colors are still ok?  Beats me!

    Hi @stevenblough1
I appreciate all the troubleshooting you have already done and would like to help to see if we can correct the issue.
I suggest using the following document to troubleshoot the issue. Troubleshooting Print-Quality Issues
If the issue persists, take a look at this video, you might find it very helpful. Hot Water Printhead Flush - HP Ink Series Printers with removable Printhead.
If the issue persists, I would suggest calling HP.  Although the printer might be out of warranty, HP may be able to offer you something. Maybe they can offer you a discount on a newer model, or discuss the option of replacing the printhead!

  • How to export my booklet as a file so I can take to a printer to print it out as a booklet?

This is my VERY first time doing work in the program InDesign and I have managed to create a booklet. However the final step of printing I am having trouble with.I am trying to export my InDesign file (indd.) to a PDF or some kind of file type that I can take to a place where they can print it out like a booklet?
    PLEASE HELP!!
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa
It's easy, you ask your printer what type of PDF s/he wants. Probably one of the InDesign presets. You don't have to worry about imposition, your printer will do that. If you think that there might be some confusion in the page order, or something, you can print out the pages on your desk-top printer and give the printer a rough mock-up.
What is important is that you check your pre-flight settings before you export to PDF. The little green high-light at the bottom-left on your screen should be green. If it's red click on it to see what the issues are.

  • Why will my HP Photosmart C5100 not print red or pink?

Photosmart C5100  stopped printing reds, pink, or magenta.  It worked fine earlier

    Hello lwilkin,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some printing issues when attempting to print in colour.
I do have a few steps that we can try.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document that deals with when the Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart 5520 and Des....
Write me back and let me know how you made out.  If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

  • New (Refurbished) OfficeJet 4620 printing red instead of black

Like the subject says... Recently purchased, refurbished OfficeJet 4620.  Fresh cartridges, tried cleaning the printhead, and all the connections/settings and suggestions found on http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03137135 to try to fix it... still can't figure it out...

    Hi JD8,
    Welcome to the HP Forums
I understand you have an Officejet 4620 that is printing red instead of black. I'd be happy to help you resolve this, I just need to gather a bit more information!
Is this happening when printing just from the printer as well as the computer? To test this, if you're not sure, please print this Network Configuration Page as it is supposed to print out entirely in black.
If that works fine, and it only seems to be happening from your computer, would you be able to tell me which version of Windows or Mac you're working with, as well as how the printer is connected to said computer?
If it also prints in the red as opposed to black, please have a look through this Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages and hopefully these steps are of help to you.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!
