HOW TO REMOVE WRITE PROTECTION FROM hp USB pen drive 8gb?

Hello sa8,  IF you are getting the Read Only error, there is a fix that may correct this.
Download USB Flash Driver Format Tool (Ufix-II):
http://www.pny.com.tw/index.php?cls=2&mode=download
You may need to have 7-Zip installed to extract the .rar file. It is a free download. http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Extract "RecoverTool_V2.00.42_M1223 8CE.exe" from the downloaded file and run it.
This should fix the problem.

  • HP v165w 8GB formatting error - drive write protected - Windows can't format - HP tool can't format

    Hi,
    I am having trouble understanding what happened with this drive. It worked fine for weeks and weeks and now all of a sudden Windows 7 asks me that it needs to fix something because the files are corrupted or whatever... it does that successfully and after a few days I get an error message saying Windows can't access the drive and it needs to format it.
    I did the following:
    - Used Disk management with no luck... tried to format, reassign drive letters and so on.
    - Used HP formatting tool - and this is where I get the message saying the drive is Write protected
    - Used HP formatting tool and Disk management in Safe mode thinking there might be some processes running that are interfering, no luck, same result for both.
    - Used AH320_Utility_LFormat with no luck... it can't even find the USB device.
    One thing that catches my eye:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
    has the entry StorageVolumes - UpperFilters (tdrpman ; snapman ; timounter) - LowerFilters (fvevol; rdyboost)
    Is it a registry issue? Like we see in CD/DVD drives when they go missing from my computer?
    Is it a MasterBootRecord virus?
    Is it a Windows corruption?
    Please help! If you need additional info please ask!
    Thank you!

  • DIAdem 9.1; Windows2000; right problem; "Configuration-Drive Write Protected" for USER

    i run into problems working with DIAdem 9.1 on Windows 2000 SP4!
    The Diadem installation went quite well.
    My problem:
    only "Administrator" and "Power User" have the privilige to "WRITE" to the DIAdem install directory.
    Trying to start Diadem as non priviliged USER I get something like:
    DIAdem Configuration-Drive "C:\PROGRAM FILES\ NATIONAL INSTRUMENT\DIADEM 9.10" WRITE PROTECTED!
    I installed & started DIAdem for one
    time with Administrator rights. I activated the Product and exported
    the KEY to a License Server. Everything works fine for Power Users an
    Administrators. Only "simple" USERs are not able to start Diadem due to
    missing WRITE permissions.  i can't grand this permissions to
    normal USERs :-(
    Playing around in Registry -> "RegWriteAccessAllow" ("0","1") (DWORD) (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/National Instruments/Diadem/9.10),
    didn't solved the problem.
    I switched back to "local License" Managment (local Key files) but the Probelm persists.
    thanks in advance
    P.S.
    Quote: "You have to be at least a "Power User" in Windows 2000 to run DIAdem in Windows 2000."

    Hi DirkT,
    Running DIAdem with User rights has different aspects we need to look at.
    1) Registry Write Access
    Launching DIAdem the first time with administrative rights registers some OLE components in the registry. After this step no more Admin rights are necessary for the registry. However running DIAdem as user might result in error messages as DIAdem tries to re-register the components again. You can avoid this by setting the RegWriteAccessAllow Key to 0 (see online help under "Administrator Notes")
    2) File / Folder Write Access to the DIAdem Installation Folder
    DIAdem needs write access to certain files e.g. the error logfile DEM_ERRS.001 or DESKTOP.DDD when saving configurations. You may change the folder where these file are being stored and searched for to a writeable folder by launching DIAdem with the "/d<NewFolder\MyDesktop.ddd>" start parameter or by setting the environment variable "DemDDD" to that folder. Then move the following files from the DIAdem installation folder to your new writeable folder:
    *.ddd
    userpar.par
    dem_errs.*
    3) File / Folder Write Access to other Folders
    There are a number of other folders that DIAdem 9.x needs write access to and which cannot be changed. All of these folders are located by default under "%ProgramFiles%\National Instruments\Shared". Currently you need your Admin to give you write access to that folder and below
    For future versions of DIAdem the team is working to make running under user rights easier.
    Hope that helps,
    Marcus

  • Thumb Drive write protected after plugging into MacBook Pro

    So I recently plugged my 64GB thumb drive into my MacBook Pro to transfer music from my old mac to my new one.  Although as soon as I plugged into the MacBook Pro, it write protected it rendering it useless as I do not wish to use it as a storage drive for 60 songs!  It is not even 1/2 full and because I plugged it into a MacBook Pro I can't use it anymore!?  It is formatted to MS-FAT, and previously I had plugged it into my 09 MacBook with no problems!  Please help me Make it a read and write again!!!  The thumb drive is only a week old!!!  There are no virus' as I have had the music on my Mac for 5 years and it has all come from the iTunes store!!!

    Choose Utilities from the Finder’s Go menu, open the Disk Utility, and try running the Repair Disk command on it. If that command’s not available or doesn’t work, copy your files off and try getting a replacement.

    When I insert a DVD-R into my external usb-connected Lenovo DVD Drive (USB 2.0 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo II Drive) and I try to format it to prepare it for backing up data, I get "Disk is write protected."  What's going on?

  • Lacie Drive write protected

    Hi all,
    I've purchased a new 500 gig LaCie drive and it is write protected and all the button pressing won't allow me to rename the drive. What I'm wanting to do is: I have a 250 Gig drive named after one of my clients. It's nearly full so I want to rename the new 500 gig drive the same as the smaller one then simply copy all the files from one to the other. Any advice would be much appreciated
    Steve

    Sounds like your drive is pre-formatted using the (PC) NTFS format ... you need to use OS X's /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility app to reformat the disc ... format it as Mac OS Extended (not journaled) and you'll be good to go

  • Stuffit expander - can't create archives, get error folder write protected

    I'm going nuts trying to figure out this problem. I figured it out on one user's machine over a month ago, but forgot what I did. I've installed Stuffit Deluxe 12 for a user. When she drags a folder on Stuffit, she gets an error that says "The destination folder "Desktop" is currently write-protected." Please select another destination."
    I've repaired permissions TWICE. I made sure the entire user's folder had the correct permissions and propagated them. This happens whether I try to save to the desktop, documents, whatever. I don't know what else to do.
    I've removed all traces of Stuffit and re-installed and still get the same problem.

    Repairing permissions does not touch the Home folder or its content. Check the permissions on the Home folder as well as the Desktop folder within. You can use Get Info to see the settings as well as change them if necessary.
    Home folder permissions:
    Owner=username with Read/Write privileges
    Group=admin with Read-only or Read/Write privileges
    Everyone=Read-only
    Desktop folder permissions:
    Owner=username with Read/Write privileges
    Everyone=No Access

  • OS X Lion USB Flash Driver WRITE PROTECTED?

    If the original OS X Lion USB Flash Drive from the Apple Store read-only or can you describe them with newer versions of OS X?

    Read only.
    In case if you have to reinstall the OS you have to use Software Update to update the system.

  • Format External Drive - From Mac for Windows

    I have a Maxtor One-touch that I need to back up a bunch of data for a Windows XP user. After some research, I thought that formatting the drive in the MS-DOS (FAT) format would do it, however, after doing so and moving all of the data, I have tried the Harddrive on a PC running Windows XP. The drive doesn't mount.
    The external drive is a PC/MAC compatible version. Am I overlooking anything? Is there something I need to do in windows to access the drive.... because it's not obvious.

    Hi Christopher,
    follow either Templetons advise or (if not possible) use Disk Utility and set the partition scheme (behind the Options button) to MBR (Master Boot Record) and use MS-DOS (= FAT32) as file system.
    That should also do the trick.
    The 'standard' partition scheme on Intel Macs is GPT (GUID Partition Table) which can sometimes lead to the effect with Windows PC that you observed.
    Hope it helps
    Stefan

  • Remove Write Protection of my HD

    I have two WD-My Passport HD, 500 GB. Im using them as a DJ device. I formatted them in MS-DOS (FAT), using the Disk Utilities. But after I put the songs in the HD, when I connect it to the CD Player, it appears the message "ERROR - Remove Write Protection”. How do I remove this protection?

    Thanks very much for replying! I have had my memory stick for a good while and it has always worked perfectly fine on any computer (OSX and Windows) and I've been able to save or delete files as I wish. But then suddenly the stick just wouldn't let me save any files in it anymore and says it's write protected (hope that's the right term, I'm not an English speaker). So I've been trying to figure out how to remove the write protection so that I would be able to use it as I did before, e.g. saving/deleting files. I came across with tips that said that in some sticks there could be a physical switch and just wanted to make clear that this is not the case with my stick. I did found some instructions how to remove the protection in Windows, but they were no use for me. Does this make it any clearer, I hope ?

  • Can I format an IDE Hard Drive from Mac Pro?

    I use a mid - 2012 Mac Pro; run Mavericks OS X 10.9.2.
    1. Can an IDE hard drive (using an external drive) be formatted to 10.9.2, from my Mac Pro using Mavericks? (the IDE hard drive is new/unformatted).
    2. Once formatted to 10.9.2, can I reformat the IDE hard drive to Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8, from my Mac Pro using Mavericks?
    3. If so, would should I do to accomplish Question # 2 above?

    The version of the OS that is running  is not relevant to formatting the drive. When you format a drive in any OS, you should select "Mac OS extended journaled." (That is, unless you plan to share the drive with a Windows computer.) Formatted this way, the drive can be used with any version of Mac OS.
    You do not have to reformat the drive each time you connect it with a different OS.
